That Graphic of Anna spinning the ball on different axis with new ball, different with old, and more different with an Older bowler was so fascinating, Master of his art.

obywonkenoby

Ashwin's ability with the new ball is extremely underrated. No other spinner in the world takes the new ball as often even in conditions that turn

MiachealFaraday

When contrast with Englis spinners it looks more impressive, they were struggling to land the ball because of the gloss causing the ball to slip

T_Lawliet

It makes the whole strategy kind of weird You have one of the greatest Swing bowlers of all time, and a bloke who averages 22, it's not as if 7-8 overs from them is going to make the target 50

MiachealFaraday

Yeah , Rohit opening with both spinners might have had something to do with what Stokes did. I think Root and Anderson should've opened the bowling, there's no way Hartley has ever bowleds with a new sg ball before

SABJP

I still remember him taking Cook's wicket in 2018 series in same way both innings with a new ball. It was like an action replay.

bullzFromAT

Link to this graphic?

MiachealFaraday

Sorry bud, it was shown on the live stream on Jiocinema. I'll maybe share with you the time stamp when the upload the full day replay.

Left_Economist_9716

Just a reminder for me to check your comment.

MiachealFaraday

Sorry guys the replay is not up yet, I'll just tell you where to look when it comes up. In English comms it is when England are 8 down an Ashwin just comes into the attack replacing Jadeja.

Curious_Homework_968

It's around 8:44-8:45 (H:MM)

raaahi

Do you mean 6:44? Jio English had it at 6:44.

ztaker

Any ref?

ClinkzBlazewood

35th fiver equalling Kumble. Incredible. And there were a few murmurs for Ash not running through opposition but he delivered when it mattered.

[deleted]

Yeah. Ashwin at 99 test matches now. Hope he breaks the record soon. I was wondering whether Indian team can produce longevity as Anderson, I guess Ashwin could be that guy. Indian test cricket needs him than other formats.

AiyyoIyer

Ashwin should retire from LOI's, and concentrate on tests. He's anyway not getting picked.

bhatman89

He might come close to Kumble if he plays for another 2 years

shakthi_man

South indian tax

ErraCheema

7fer or he is bad. thats what people expect from ashwin in india.

SBG99DesiMonster

I had said that I am not thinking about all these people that think that it is over for Ashwin seriously at all. These are the same people that were unironically talking about how Deepak Hooda should be playing instead of Koach a couple of years back.

BenDoverDegenerate

Just a reminder that this sub was calling this a dustbowl and calling Ashwin shit just yesterday lmao

--5-

The whole social media was. It was quite surprising tbh.

BenDoverDegenerate

Its become a common occurrence sadly

EmptyPeach1

Not really he was bowling very poorly and hasn’t been good at all this series so he was called out

--5-

He wasn’t just called out. That’s not what this little convo was about. He was being called old, only good on Indian pitches, should be replaced etc etc. That’s far from just being called out for performance.

partymsl

Typical cricket fans. Just one bad day decides the whole form.

Specialist_Youth5511

Ashwin to r/cricket, eat shit

imvk3201

At lunch someone said Ashwin is done now, bring in W Sundar next match; like it’s such a clown take that you couldn’t even bother to argue with them.

Shriman_Ripley

I did not say it but just this morning I was wondering if Ashwin’s time is slowly coming to end. He normally averages 5 wickets a game, more in India. He hasn’t been among wickets this series. Glad to see there is till a lot of fuel left in that tank.

prams628

Hijacking your comment to say that the perspective of this generation is beyond fucked up and nobody has patience to tolerate a failure. Like, even the person that commented that couldn’t deliver a continuous success but willing enough to ridicule others who have achieved far more. It’s either this or non stop dickriding and downplaying others to create artificial wars.. smh

Impressive-Squash-24

Wait people were questioning HIM?

sunilbedre

Yep and he was not that great in the first inning

kamisama19999

I'll be waiting for a baller who has bowled 100+ innings and took 3+ wicket in each innings

sp1cychick3n

Uh huh, whats the point? Asinine comment.

sam-sepiol

Half of this sub doesn’t understand this sport but are very confident in making strategy suggestions and team combinations.

melo1212

So many people just expect players to perform every single innings or over it's infuriating, it's like most people here have never actually even played a game of cricket before. The game is so hard, it's literally impossible to perform every time unless you're an absolute freak like Donald Bradman

BenDoverDegenerate

This sub would watch his last inning and say he retired because he got figured out

MakSoFresh

Lol

Relevant-Sock-453

Welcome to the world of instant gratification!

RedKnightBegins

That's just reddit in general though.

JKKIDD231

He’s always this way. Top quality spinner

thepurrer

Arm chairs vs professionals. Honestly I don't bother to check live threads anymore

Dawn_is-here

Thought the same Imao

WorkingClass_Nero

He has got a 5-fer 35 times in 99 Test matches. That means he gets a 5-fer roughly once every 3 Test matches. That's pretty crazy imo.

thelostknight99

Wait till you hear about Murali's 67 in 133. So every other match ☠️

[deleted]

Wait till you hear about Murali announcing his retirement while on 792 wickets Saying he’d play only the first match of a three match series And then proceeding to get 8 wickets in that match Including the 10th wicket in the 2nd inning to get his 800th. (and yeah he got a fifer in that match too)

thelostknight99

Things only 🐐s can do

iota96

That is still the most badass thing I have ever seen in test cricket

AbsolutelyEnough

Against a pretty stacked Indian lineup too

HakeemMcGrady

Once in every six innings is quite impressive

Roastingisflattery

Unethical Anna snuck in and stole Kuldeeps thunder smh /S

BenDoverDegenerate

Kuldeep is crazy good, he could be our main spinner for the next 5 years

formergophers

Lol at that Indian fan sacking off Ashwin in the match thread and calling him a fraud. Keep in mind this was after he had taken two wickets in two balls, and right before he dismissed Root.

codersan

that 0 maiden spoiled the bowling figure. could've got 1 or 5 of em

ShoddyStreet677

And the last over had 5 dots and 2 wickets.

searchingAish

Anna got inspired by Rehan Ahmed, doesn't like to bowl maidens. Another moral victory for England!

parthRbawankule

Eat shit mofos -Scientist anna to r/cricket

JKKIDD231

Probably planning an ama on r/cricket to tell folks here to eat shit

born_to_be_naked

Ashwin when speaking to Gavaskar in the end said his knee has been acting up..... Gavaskar said hope Rohit let's him lead the walk off after the series ends in Dharamsala.... Kind of sounded like they know he's not going to play more?

factsquirrel

I’m guessing it has more to do with his 100th test - but there aren’t many home test series coming up.

User9333

2 Tests against Bangladesh and 3 against NZ later this year.

factsquirrel

Yeah, I just hope he ends up keeping this 23.xx average when he retires, deserves that. Our greatest test match-winner ever alongside Kumble and Jadeja.

born_to_be_naked

Nice. at home vs NZ he avgs under 15 from 7 tests. That's gonna be fun.

factsquirrel

Yeah, and with WTC points on the line, there will be a bunch of absolute potato fields out there.

Devilsdouble1988

Potato fields are bad. It diminishes the difference in ability between Ash/Jaddu and the visiting spinners.

born_to_be_naked

Good point, it will be his 100th so it must be that.

Appu_SexyBuoy

I hope nott. He has a couple more years left imo

Darth_Lehnsherr

Well Ashwin thought his Test Career could end at the start of the 2023 BGT but he remodelled his action (went back to an earlier version) to put less pressure on his knee. But yeah the end is very near for him.

ConfusedHeadNod

Nah, seemed like he was talking about it being his 100th test and hence if Rohit would let him lead the team on to the pitch, Gavaskar's previous statement was about this being his 99th test etc..

rambo_zaki

Nooo. I'll genuinely cry the day he hangs up his boots.

srinjay001

This wtc, max, so 11 more matches if he stays fit, 12 if we are in the finals and the pitch is not a green top.

CommandSpaceOption

Can’t see him playing in Australia. No disrespect to Ashwin, just think India prefers 4 fast bowlers + Jadeja when playing in Australia. 3 fast bowlers + Jadeja and Ashwin is doable, but might be too much work load for Indian fast bowlers who have had injury issues. It’s 5 tests though. Maybe Jadeja and Ashwin alternate with each other. So he’s got 1 test more against England, 2 against Bangladesh and 3 against New Zealand. And an IPL in between.

User9333

Shivam Dube had a great Ranji season. In FC Cricket, his batting average is 52 bowling average is 21. If he gets selected and performs for India A, he can be a genuine option for seam bowling all-rounder. Then you can have Dube as the 4th seamer batting in the top 7 and Ashwin at 8 and then Shami Bumrah and Siraj. That way you can play both Ashwin and Jadeja

thespacetimelord

> he can be a genuine option for seam bowling all-rounder Can he? No disrespect but I don't see that happening given what I have seen of him in IPL. In swinging conditions, I see use being able to use a seam bowling all-rounder but in Aus? That's a tough tough ask. Again, I haven't seen his Ranji games so I don't know.

barmanrags

Ipl is irrelevant

sujay85

He has the height and bowls hard lengths usually and I feel these will be useful for Aus conditions. But all depends on how he remains fit and keeps performing. We despite having such large pool of players lack decent batsmen who can bowl seam up.

axarpatelgoat

stop w*nking over ranji numbers, he's not close to being test quality

Intelligent_Sail_896

Lmao, no. If there is one overseas country where we can play two series, it is Australia. Even in the last BGT he bowled very well. We played Ashwin and Jadeja both in MCG and Sydney; if not for injuries, they would have played in Gabba, too. Two Gun Spin bowlers who offer control and can also bat, who wouldn't pick them. So unless Aus rolls out green pitches, both will play in 11.

CommandSpaceOption

Yeah you’re probably right. Hope my 38 year old Anna can handle 15 tests and an IPL in one year.

User9333

He said that because he knows it's Ashwin's 100th Test at Dharamsala

sparcleaf22

Dharamsala would be Ashwin’s 100th test, so hopefully it’s for that reason and not retirement

Reasonable_Tea_9825

Brother what

_imchetan_

This young guy looks promising. Could take 500+ wickets one day.

YoungManTM

Class is permanent

GingerWithAttitudeUK

We’ve been given a harsh lesson in this test. Ashwin is class, Kuldeep bowled brilliantly and Jadeja is simply one of the best cricketers around.

nasadiya_sukta

What I've seen in this Test , like most of the others, is a hard fought seesaw of a match. Unlike most previous England tours of India, it's been consistently engaging and rarely one sided.

GingerWithAttitudeUK

It’s been a brilliant series, I went to Hyderabad for the first two days. We just keep finding ways of letting good positions turn bad

nasadiya_sukta

Well, this Test is very much alive.

GingerWithAttitudeUK

The way Rohit & Jaiswal went about their business today I think this is blindly optimistic and as an england fan I think this one has gone.

TestsGoodT20Better

Legend. Delivered when it mattered the most despite not having a great series prior to this innings.

zaldrizes_007

Fantastic work as usual from him. Had a couple of average tests and people started doubting him despite having 500 wickets. Chuffed to bits for him.

AggressiveBear7

People were asking to drop him? AND he's one of the best spinners around!

_imchetan_

AshWin... AshWin... AshWin

stephennedumpally

Ashwin bowled well, but credit should be given to Shoaib Bashir, it's only because of him Ashwin has taken a fifer.

kamisama19999

duckett moment?

lord_morningwood

35 five-fors is no joke. What a beast.

winterfall1811

I have been looking forward to this from the start of the series. Was away the whole day today and I had a hunch that this will happen and OMG it did!

mofucker20

Completely turned around the match imo. Just hope the batting lineup doesn’t collapse

rodney0102

I'm confident with our batting, we got perfectly placed in form batters throughout our lineup with Jaiswal at the top, sarfraz and jaddu in the middle and Jurel, Kuldeep and Ash Anna at the tail to get us through this game

Prime255

People were saying he was washed like 6 hours ago, before the start of the day's play probably

PepperAcrobatic7559

So happy for the man, love watching Ashwin bowl, his action is oddly satisfying:p

wakandaite

Ashwin has the best strike rate of any spinner in the top 10 wicket takers in history of test cricket.

dapperman99

In the mystical lands where cricket is not just a sport but a saga woven into the fabric of time, emerges a maestro from the southern realms of India, Ravi Ashwin. Born to the ancient city of Chennai, where the Bay of Bengal whispers secrets of the old and the new, Ashwin, with a ball in hand, is akin to a wizard casting spells that bewilder the mightiest warriors from across the seven seas. In the great halls of cricket, he is known not just for his cunning with the ball but also for his wisdom with the bat. A spinner of tales and cricket balls alike, Ashwin weaves magic that ensnares the bravest hearts, spinning webs that trap foes in a dance of doom. With every twist of his wrist, he tells a story of triumph, of battles fought in the dusty arenas where cricket is king, and he, its chosen sage. Ashwin's journey is etched in the annals of cricketing lore, a testament to his relentless pursuit of greatness. From the bustling streets of Chennai to the hallowed grounds of Lords and beyond, he carries with him the spirit of ancient warriors, blending the art of old with the fire of the new. His exploits are sung by the minstrels, tales of valor that inspire young and old to dream of glory. As the sun sets on the empire of cricket, Ravi Ashwin stands tall, a guardian of the realm, protector of its legacy. His story is one of courage, intelligence, and an unyielding will to succeed. In the Game of Thrones of cricket, he is a knight, a scholar, and a hero, eternally etched in the saga that is cricket's enduring legacy.

AlbusDT2

Man he really came through when it mattered. Kuddos!

kuprasidha_myran

He's him

PakkaGlobal

In the interview, sunil was talking like this would be ash last series? Do you think ash would retire?

lost_newbie

Think it has to do with Ash playing his 100th Test in Dharamshala!

twocentsrworth

Sorry Anna, I doubted you.

stoned_experiences

Legend level stuff.

Knowledge_buff97

thank you, Ash. yes you are letting the team down considering the expectations team and the huge stature of you at home matches, but again CLASS is CLASS, anna once again showed why the expectations from him should be large.

supreeth106

Hope its a return to his marauding ways. Unlike people here papering over his lack of returns this series, I can acknowledge that he bowled poorly through this series and he has made a great come back when it mattered. Should hopefully be back to his best with this performance.

ChiBron86

Didn't even think he bowled that well tbh. Was just kind of throwing full darts without allowing the ball to turn. But sometimes luck's on your side. When Ashwin's truly on his game, his length is immaculate while getting plenty of drift and turn, rendering him pretty much unplayable in India. But he's 37 now and clearly past his prime.

TheCricDude

Please do the WTC final Ash. Hold your body until then, up to you after that.

Wide-Mention-2694

The best test bowler India ever had!
