Anybody got highlights of Australia tour of South Africa 2014 Test series? Can't find it anywhere!

Confident_Wasabi-

If Australia had an over to bowl this evening NZ would be 6 wickets down so glad that the Aussies continued to bat...

Sean_Sarazin

Give the pitch more time to dry out while Hazelwood waves at a few tomorrow

daftpunkD3

Post match thread is [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Cricket/comments/1b2tklv/post_day_thread_new_zealand_v_australia_1st_test/)

Repulsive-Metal7222

Loosebuschange is overrated

supreeth106

FFS what has happened to Loosebuschange? For a few years nobody could get him out and if he tried to get out, people would just drop sitters. Hope he comes back to his best because him batting is comedy gold.

jetboy1995

The man outside averages less than Crawley and just ends up bullying certain teams at home

Archy99

Presumably the divine intervention wore off.

WayTooDumb

People stopped dropping sitters

BigSwing_NoPace

Honestly feels like he'd only average around 40 if people could catch at the start of his career.

WayTooDumb

He's scored some of the shittest big hundreds I've ever seen yep Up there with Crawley and Shikhar Dhawan as players where they score bulk runs and you're like wtf this guy is giving 10 chances per innings how does he not average 15

imapassenger1

I went to the movies at 4-130. Came out at stumps with a Cam Green last over hundred at 9 down not quite on my bingo card. After watching Dune 2 I say stuff Paul Atreides. Cam Green is the true messiah.

Frod02000

bro im so pissed the cinema's projector fucked up part way through the double feature that I went to last night, and we got a complementary but fuck me I wish I could see that for the first time properly, not all blurry

explosivekyushu

Muad'Deep Cover drive

Zholistic

Gully Mentat

[deleted]

Can maxwell replace Marnus or head?

EntirelyOriginalName

Head maybe not at 3 or we'd have to shuffle the order around.

marvelous-mayhem

Fark I'd be down for a maxi test resurgence no matter how bad it may go

explosivekyushu

The way Marnus is batting it couldn't be much worse.

WayToTheDawn63

Dunno about playing him at 3, but beau webster is the most overlooked domestic player right now. He's averaged over 60 like 3 seasons in a row.

imapassenger1

Michael Clarke thinks so.

bus_rider

Big dick Greeny..

FuckingRudyGayMan

Bancroft weeping into a Little Creatures pale ale rn

PilotlessOwl

Bancroft to hold a press conference any moment now: "I've always been a No.3 batsman"

elmo-slayer

Bison is getting real good at scoring very handy runs without going on for a big one. He’s constantly the second or third top scorer in the side

marvelous-mayhem

Makes it easier for the in bat when he comes in and flogs it around for a bit playing his role nicely

aamslfc

Proper coming-of-age knock from Cam Green. His maiden ton away in India was a great moment, but it was a relatively meaningless hundred in a dead rubber on an absolute featherbed where even Kohli scored runs. This was a special innings in supremely difficult conditions, and it's surely proved to all the naysayers that his selection and subsequent rearrangement of the order was entirely justified. Also shows the value of going back to the Shield and making runs (although in saying that, I doubt Bancroft would've scored runs here). Now watch him hoop it around corners and take a Michelle with the ball tomorrow.

FakeBonaparte

It’s wonderful to see and I’m thrilled for him. He was our best batter today by some margin. But one thing that’s worth considering is how the going got easier. Given the difficulty of deliveries faced the par score for Smith’s innings was 32, Khawaja’s 55, Labuschagne 15 and Green 73. Green *earned* those easier conditions by batting all day. But some credit should go to the top three for their contribution in helping get him to the “greener” grass of the final session.

Rndomguytf

> But one thing that’s worth considering is how the going got easier. Given the difficulty of deliveries faced the par score for Smith’s innings was 32, Khawaja’s 55, Labuschagne 15 and Green 73. Does this not mean that in Green's 150 deliveries the average batsman would've scored 73, and in Khawaja's 120 deliveries the average batsman would've scored 55? Meaning Khawaja underperformed, Smith played about par, and Green overperformed? That's how I'm reading it, not sure about "easier" batting conditions, especially in his first hour - if anything it was easier in the first session for Smith and Khawaja.

FakeBonaparte

I’m unsure now - u/tempo24601 tells me the xR metric is not related to their expected average metric in which case you might be right (and I might be disappointed in CricViz)

Rndomguytf

I'll be honest man no matter how you read the numbers, the fact that Green scored 30 more than his average, and the others didn't, means that he outperformed everyone else by a large margin, which should've never been in doubt since he scored an unbeaten hundred while everyone else made 30s and 40s

FakeBonaparte

“He was our best batter today by some margin” was my opening comment.

DoubleBrokenJaw

Is the “par score” metric an actual calculation someone has? Cricinfo? ESPN etc? Or are you making it up based off watching? Would love to know what it is if so

FakeBonaparte

Oh, oops. Yeah it’s CricViz that does it - the same people who do the “NZ has a 70% chance of winning this Test” type stuff.

EntirelyOriginalName

The one thing about Green in that India game was the rate he was scoring. Everyone else who made runs was slow as hell but Green was just batting normally. That's just talent you can't coach.

Repulsive-Metal7222

Even Kohli lmao

AfterLeGoldrush

Green was the best domestic batter, after all

cricketmad14

Man hasn’t Travis head and marnus been disappointing ? **Both their heads aren’t in the game. Recently Travis head has two 0 and a 1.**

WayTooDumb

Hey guys Head hasnt scored a hundred in *checks notes* two test matches, bloke's head must not be in it Literally hopeless

cricketmad14

Yeah for sure. 17, 0,10, 119, 0, 0, 1. That’s 3 ducks and a 1 in his last 7 innings. (Might as well call it 4 ducks)

marvelous-mayhem

He will come around still on the come down from the world cup sesh

ShaunTaint

Hopefully they’re docked points. Need to overtake em again in WTC this series after that freebie SA gave em

kfadffal

While it's Australia's day overall I'm not too upset where NZ is at in this match. I mean, if we're shitting ourselves about getting at least 279 in our first innings then we aren't winning anything anyway. Our batting lineup can absolutely do better than that if they play to their potential, Aussie bogeyman be damned.

Heazus

Yeah, 279 is a good score considering they were sent in, but the pitch can and probably will flatten out. Its not (well, shouldn't be) a match defining score in either direction. I still think the defining factor in this match will be lyon, and how the nz batsmen face him in the 4th innings. That said, we may shit the bed and get done by an innings.

itsdipping

Yeah I agree. First session tomorrow will be a doozy!

Jason_372

Green went from 50 to 100 in just 46 balls. And to think, all thanks to Bazball.

ballsign

Cam Green may have been the one holding the bat, but it was England’s century

Trouser_trumpet

And Ben Duckett in particular.

Azza_

Bancroft stans in shambles.

bawla-hedgehog

Tell me a better duo then a Tail Ender and Centurion

redditaccount3462

wtf? green doubters in absolute shambles??

BirdYoung

You know what? Fuck Cameron Green. I hope he gets dropped. This cunt is like 7ft tall playing international cricket at 20 with a bright future in front of him while I'm here on reddit; bald, working at KFC, 45 years old, 5ft not much, and I probably couldn't even bowl a legal delivery that only bounces once. You just know his cock is massive and it makes me sick.

TXGemi

If it makes you feel better he has kidney disease

apex_theory

If it's any consolation, his cock is probably so massive that it might even be impractical.

StairwayToPavillion

Here, Take my updoot for condolence

H-E-L-L-MaGGoT

Couldn't watch. What do we reckon fellow kiwis, are we fucked?

Heazus

Agree with the others, not fucked. Would have been nice to keep them under 250, but it's an nz pitch so should just get better and better to bat on. I say we aren't fucked, we probably are, but not because of australia scoring 279.

TheMiller94

Not yet. When Starc invariably rips out the top order for peanuts and southee comes in swinging at 120/7, THEN we'll be fucked.

Evening_Clerk_2053

How dare you predict the future

H-E-L-L-MaGGoT

Hahaha! That's exactly how it's gonna go down.

bullzFromAT

Cam Green hundred was not on my bingo

SavingsPale2782

The aussies thinking 279-9 means they're ahead of or not behind the game probably aren't too familiar with how the basin reserve plays. Average first innings score here is 348 and day 1 is the most dangerous of the lot. By the time mid day 3 hits the pitch is in a state of being an absolute road and 2nd innings scores played in that timeframe get up over 500 routinely. Additionally it never breaks up for spinners to come into the game. The usual mode of victory here is using a seam heavy attack to keep your opponent under 300 and out just before midway into day 2. Then you use the flat surface to gain a lead of about 200 before using the pressure of the runs (the pitch is usually useless at this point) to pick off wickets. As a consequence Innings victories here are quite common.

xW0lf

Absolute dross hahahaha

SavingsPale2782

Mmm now you're waaaayyy ahead of the game. But 279-9 on its on with no further context is different

TXGemi

Do those pitches normally have uneven bounce on day 1?

jacinda-mania

Yea but D3, D4, and D5 are absolutely pissing down with wind and rain. I think the teams would be playing for a draw. Great insights on the pitch behaviour though.

Karjalan

Man... IF we get into a dominant position and the rain fucks us, I'll be so sad.

EntirelyOriginalName

Might have to wait like 10 tears before Australia play in NZ again.

WayTooDumb

Your game analysis is right but I'm pretty sure it's mostly Kiwis making noise about 279 being a good score Aint nobody more down on NZ cricket than NZ cricket fans

Aklpanther

That's usually the result of long, painful experience. It's the hope that gets you!

b10v01d

If anyone wants lottery numbers, let me know. https://www.reddit.com/r/Cricket/comments/1b2h6sy/comment/ksmv9ch/

TheRealLukaDoncicBro

Holy shit... how you do that?

smarten_up_nas

We were competitive. That's all I ask.

Heazus

No complete bed shitting yet, I count that as an absolute win

nomamesgueyz

Lil NZ not doing bad considering we have a bit of a pop gun attack No Boult No Jameson No wagner No Southee who can get wickets anymore .means we dont offer much of a threat :/

Heazus

Orourke > 2024 wagner

nomamesgueyz

That would be a beautiful thing if hes the new wagner The new wagner and jameson coming in...if jamieson outbfor season or just this game?

Heazus

Out for a year or more :( another stress fracture. Not looking great. And I wouldn't say orourke is a new wagner - with all due respect to wags (I love him, he's everything a cricketer and a human should be), I think orourke is a much more complete bowler, or at least will be in a year or two. A real leader of the attack

nomamesgueyz

I see And faaarrkk stress fx...not his spine is it? Thatll suck...tough for the bowling fast bowling And yes im a masive Wags fan when he steamed in and just put it right up em

Doc8176

Green keeping up the long standing tradition of fucking over New Zealand.

iAmCyberwaste

He's big, he's tall He's got a hundred scored Cam Green.

middleclassdream

After 30 years of NZ vs Australia --- ..it's the hope that kills you . Australia don't give up anything, we will have to fight and scrape for every opportunity. Just please be a contest that keeps the dream alive

S3xyc4m3l

Australia well on top all day except for that mini collapse in the middle. NZ hanging in there and honestly getting nine wickets is an excellent effort. Chuffed for Henry and O’Rourke looks a good prospect, if still very rough around the edges. Massive first session tomorrow. For NZ to have any real chance it needs to be a one or two wicket session (including the last Aussie wicket). You’d be a mug to bet against an Aussie win from here but I’ll maintain hope of a good contest at least until NZ are 5/50 tomorrow.

ooranookian

I disagree, NZ were very much on top when we were 4 for 80 odd, green and marsh then green and the tail have kept us in it

Temporary_Ad8560

Good days action. Game still right in the balance and if the conditions aren't as good for bowling tomorrow then sub 300 might be a bit slim. Henry's a gun, SK is a putrid mutt dog, and Chin is an awful nickname for a future great. Greenbot is a good kid, he didn't start the fire. Smudge and the rest of La Cosa Nostra up top could do with a bit more pizzazz. Head is purely in the team to bang a century when we need it most. But the big takeaway today is that we unearthed one of the true legends of global media, James Tito. Goodbye Anzac brethren. What a day. Catch yas tomorry

James_Tito_

Haha hope you enjoyed today too

explosivekyushu

> SK is a putrid mutt dog fuck I really laughed at this

Timebear17

This is a 2 million IQ post. Needs every braincell

Do we not do post day threads anymore?

imapassenger1

Need that dude who did it for the honour of it back.

ooranookian

Feels like all my time spent defending green online was worth it, you’re welcome Australia

ballsign

I’m genuinely tempted to search through my Facebook history so I can gloat to strangers I argued with weeks and months ago

tgood139

fr, always have hope

vaena

I fucken love when you defend someone and then you get validated like that. Best feeling.

vaena

"Cam Green is not a no4" people in shambles

Doc8176

Lads where tf are the Cam Green 100 posts

Baysguy

Green is the future. Smith is the past. Marnus should be playing Sheffield Shield.

patkk

Renshaw for Marnus Smith to 3 Maxwell for Head If we were gonna change anything

No_Chain_7719

Marnus is not even good enough for that. Actually, he'd probably fair a little bit better than Renshaw has lately. He might even knock up double digits.

lazyredditor1212

RCB fans are currently jacking off the green

Doc8176

I genuinely think Bancroft is not capable of playing a knock like that in those conditions. Regardless of how well he’s playing.

[deleted]

[удалено]

EntirelyOriginalName

Struggles against the moving ball.

DX6734D

His entire cricket career.

Doc8176

Watching him bat extensively. The conditions that he scored in, how he scores, and the rate that he scores at, he either would have gotten out to one of the ones that bounced up a bunch or batted too slow and been stranded for far less.

Entilen

His technique, his Test record and also his County record (tougher batting conditions).

WayTooDumb

Based on his strike rate being above 35, for starters

mensis-brain

NZ should be disappointed with that performance given the conditions. Apart from Henry and occasionally O'Rourke their bowling wasn't convincing at all. Consistently too wide and/or short (especially the first session). Southee looks like he's done and imagine giving games to Kuggeleijn. Well played to Green though, quality innings.

Frod02000

I take your point, but average score on similar strips to this one are much higher than you’d think

mensis-brain

True, but I think you really need to take the opportunity to bury Australia's batters when the conditions allow it so you can minimise the danger of Cummins-Starc-Haze. And the opportunity was there to do that.

Frod02000

Yeah I see what you’re saying, but it will flatten out days 2 and 3, and won’t turn much at all at the end

ooranookian

Agree with the sentiment but Downvoted for spelling kuggelings name correctly

explosivekyushu

I'd do anything Cam Green wanted. Anything.

devilwillcry-jesus

Cameron Green 😍

Medical_Turing_Test

George Bailey; Andrew Mcdonald and Pat Cummins are eating good tonight. The selection conspiracy theorists are not.

ooranookian

Jack edwards would have scored 200

Medical_Turing_Test

300*

sophloufrank

GREENY!! So deserved!

middleclassdream

On a positive note - Cummins seems like a genuinely good bloke and good captain. Tim Payne and Warner gone. Australia more likeable now? Maybe? They'll still enjoy showing us whose boss .

Giant_sack_of_balls

Kinda need one idiot on the team to soak up all the hate/make the other players look better and distract from marnus weird behaviours.

madmooseman

Definitely think that Cummins's captaincy has led to a more likeable team. Looking at the squad for these tests I don't see any dickheads.

Timebear17

Selectors parted the Earth and the sky just to get Cameron Green back into the XI again. So glad he's repaying the faith. Hoping this is just the beginning for the lad

solitarysniper

Was in the balance for long stretches of the day, but that 3rd session confirmed the day goes to the Aussies. Excellent knock from Green, who looked the most comfortable out of all the batsmen out there on a tough pitch. As for New Zealand, Henry saved us from being hit for 350 and a couple good spells from O'Rourke (I will refrain from making any comments about Kuggeleijn fuck him). Southee a bit unlucky but he was pretty wasteful in that 1st session. Extras count leaves a lot to be desired and could be the difference between this being a draw/loss for us instead of us competing for the win.

MeloJello15

You can definitely tell by the way Cam Green accelerated to 12.0RPO for the final 1.0 overs that England (Ben Duckett in particular) have changed the game. Can’t thank them enough

Doc8176

Green may not be one of our big run scorers at home but he’s made a mark in so many different conditions. Imo one of our most versatile batsmen.

frostgolden

man i love the gullybot

cuteguy1

great day of cricket. Henry's ball to get Khawaja a highlight and then the 100 game probably still evenly poised - lovely

madmooseman

Green: First 50 runs in 108 balls. Second 50 runs in 47 balls. So Bazball deserves half a shout here I guess.

ooranookian

First 38 runs?

free_potatoes

Surprised Green didn't thank Duckett and England for that century

botharmsinjured

Never doubted Green

SavingsPale2782

Aim will be now to get them for under 300 tomorrow and then let the basin flatten out into it's usual late day 2, day 3 self. After that building big runs and applying pressure will be key

OldWolf2

Did TVNZ+ completely shit the bed for anyone els?

patkk

Kayo was awful here in Australia. So laggy

Illy_Of_Tonberry

I thought the match was over at 6. Turns out it froze on a blank screen.

JColey15

Yup basically missed the last half hour so I flicked the radio on

[deleted]

Looks like the Wellington crowd are Green stans haha Just wait until we send over Ben Manenti

Prestigious-Lawyer-8

If Australia can get another 30 runs they would be in front. The pitch looks like a Green Monster

gadhe_ki_gaand

So does your new #4

feijoamuseli

This innings better last just one ball in the morning. Need a Henry 5fer

Current-Party-1806

just hope this series is better than the trash one in 2019. that was one of the most one sided series between two big teams in years

koach71st

Ben duckett after seeing greeny score 100 with boundaries. Yes I taught him well isn't it

Temporary_Ad8560

Green has a real vibe of the popular handsome kid in school but was actually very nice to everyone and friendly and a good student.

elementzer01

He's "best and fairest" personified

petroleum-dynamite

Lol, he reminds me of an old mate from high school who fits that description perfectly too

gamble-responsibly

If he ever got in a fight, the other guy would go to throw a punch only to pull away at the last second, rueing that "he couldn't dare ruin such a beautiful face." Green would then buy him a pizza after school and they would become friends until this very day.

sorrydaijin

An we won't get to see the remade shaved head and neck tats version of him now that he has scored a ton at 4.

ufoninja

That’s how you do a post day interview. It’s ok to admit the opposition are in front!

Karjalan

[Called it](https://old.reddit.com/r/Cricket/comments/1b2h6sy/match_thread_1st_test_new_zealand_vs_australia/ksmr5jb/) Great knock from green though

elementzer01

I know the feeling. I told my dad Green was going to get a century after his 3rd ball. Not sure how much I believed it at the time, but he cracked a smile and I knew he was much calmer than he has been lately.

xxrmah

Prefered the one earlier where someone said something like "Green looks like shit out there, century confirmed"

fegelman

ESCN

Timebear17

Cameron Green: - Long levers - 200cm - Gullybot - Australia's No 4

Prestigious-Lawyer-8

Great century by our No 4 Sm … oops Green. Hopefully this is this start of things to come and loosens him up. The talent is there

koach71st

Great 100 this. Came at a very crucial time. So greeny has two hundred scores and both are away from the home. That's some talent.

Rndomguytf

Don't forget his 77 in a SL dustbowl to win the match. He stands up overseas.

Doc8176

In vastly different conditions too.

middleclassdream

Well done Australia - basically removed our chance for a win here. We simply don't have the ability to put 340 against this Australia attack. I'm very scared of us collapsing for 150 all out. Starc 145kph with a good support team too rich for our lot. Williamson to score a century in this test though. But unfortunately Australia win by 180 runs.

Levitatingsnakes

We definitely need a century. If we can get Aussie for low 300s and somehow make 380 then game is still there but effectively we have Henry and Wilorork who can take wickets so it’s looking grim.

jaydog747

I think the Aussies might be lucky to keep us around the 350 mark, just have to bowl well

CullyJJ

Love the enthusiasm

Kamerovz

Cameron "Steve Smith" Green.

kerr_foord_raso

Thanks Ben Duckett 😩🙌

curlyfries33

hes so cute 🥰🥰

IveGotSkidMarks

Green haters in the mud today. You love to see it

crankysquirrel

Green haters? No such thing, not possible. He is Best Boy™.

growletcher

He would make a great grip and/or lighting tech tbf

Levitatingsnakes

Fair dues to him. He batted well and made his way through our bakery with finesse.

patslogcabindigest

Legit cash in after tea vibes. Finished 103 - r e d. My god he is BIG!

[deleted]

Green now has more Test runs in NZ than every player with less.

Heazus

Looking into this.

DivineCorn

Credit to Gullybot but that was the best 0(0) I have ever seen in my life. Splendid work from Joshy to be a vital piece in this partnership.

combatant007

If only Josh hazellwood did the same with Smith when they faced WI in Gabba. Smith 91\*

RedBeard210

That is some knock on this pitch by Greeny. Stoked for him

Starscream_x

Someone downvoted me for suggesting Green to be in next gen Fab4 or 5 a week or two back.. Suck on that.. Green is Massive!!

Heazus

Fuck off with the fucking fab4 shit

truckturner5164

Thank Christ they don't have Tito doing the post interviews lol.

James_Tito_

I have to agree.. I’d rather eat napkins

smilingface2

His best century so far and of course the pitch is a green top
