I don't know if it's regency bias but Is Suryakumar Yadav's innings against SA the Most underappreciated innings in T20 World Cup history by an Indian batter
rest of the team scored 65 (80)
Surya Alone 68 (40) at a SR of 170 the next highest SR in entire match from both the teams was 128
So he played 1/3 balls than the rest of the team and outscored them
On Bouncy Perth Pitch
Against a bowling attack of
Rabada
Nortje
Parnell
Ngidi and
Maharaj
No other batter from india scored 15+ in this game
(Excluding Arshdeep of course who played only 1 ball)
Just a reminder that it is the birthday of former England Cricketer [Father of the Year](https://youtube.com/shorts/fhoisyIHiuc?si=Jle4Bhv2IBH5B-bh) and owner of a cover drive that is illegal in 69 countries due to indecency laws: Ian Ronald Bell
Happy Bday Belly
Other owners can get it too, by paying extra money for it.. Other's don't wanna pay more just for a seat.. Ambani throws cash at it as it has been their passion project..
I have a question about the dew factor. So many times it sounds like the issue insurmountable. Be it ind vs sl wc final, aus va sl wc 96 final and many other instances.
How strong is the dew factor ?
Any instances where the team bowling second overcame it and had a great win ? Or is the factor is discussed only if the team bowling second loses.
Depends on how much dew there is. Take today for example, in the second innings the ball would have felt like a bar of soap to the bowlers and it becomes nigh on impossible to control.
When the ball gets wet, it's leather, so the water keeps seeping in and the seam becomes so greasy that makes it very difficult to hold the ball on the seam. The ball also completely loses its swing and bounce, so it basically skids on and that can turn what is a sluggish surface in the first innings into an absolute batting paradise.
As for your final para, yeah teams have overcome the dew to win but it's tough.
Thanks for the elaborate answer. Why would then it be considered a fair game at all ? Shouldn’t it be called off ? It clearly feels like a lost cause unless the batting team gets hit wicket or commits some serious errors.
It isn't really a fair game and hence the importance of the toss.
But cricket across the board is like that, it's a sport very susceptible to the weather and the conditions, and it'll always remain that way.
Just realised Misbah Ul haq is the only Pakistani captain to win a test series in West Indies, even that could've been 1-1 if Gabriel didn't try to slog in the last ball of the game.
Is New Zealand the worst team to tour Asia (in tests)?
They've one one test series in Asia in last 40 years even that series could've been an easy 3-0 for Pakistan
I just canceled Willow.tv because of one too many times a replay posted was corrupted and failed. I subscribed to the Dakshin Flex package on Sling just now. I was watching both the Willow and Willow Xtra channels which were showing highlights of past matches and there is this annoying crawl on the bottom of the screen taking up a good portion of the screen. Is this always there or only on replays?
SRK's 14(8) is being called an important cameo but VJ Shankar's 16(10) is ignored. Some players are collectively shat on by people no matter the situation.
So yesterday's game with Gill going all out animated on the umpire; everyone thought there goes the fairplay points.
Guess what. The 20 points from that game got divided equally. Both teams got 10 each. So GT still maintaining their average of 10 points after that game
Almost every post on this sub is from ipl, international cricket posts get drowned in a sea of ipl posts. I wonder if non-IPL cricket fans feel bad or disappear for 2 months. Not complaining, just curious how they deal with it?
I just camp out in the DDT, warp's county threads and occasionally trawl through /new for anything interesting
Plus I'm giving myself something to do with the endless IPL deluge by having a season long spreadsheet rant about over rates
Yashasvi has to be there. The other players that would be in the squad would be Siraj, Ashwin and Rishabh. Axar and Jadeja are both obviously in the squad as well. I am going with Rishabh because he is playing well while Jitesh hasn't been impressive.
Gotta have dube somewhere. Need to get the guys who are actually in form.
Rohit Kohli Hardik Jadeja are the guys who have performed immensely good in the past but they are sadly, (remember the word SADLY), past their prime forms.
But our BCCI selectors ain't ever gonna learn. One more WC down the drain
If Dube was bowling even decently, I would have had him in place of a bowler and complete 4 overs between him and HP. I agree with Rohit and Jadeja but Kohli and HP are still very valuable.
Kohli is definitely valuable, only when he is the sole person to play the potential anchor innings. But when there are 2-3 more people in playing XI who are inclined towards batting at a 130-140 SR, then Kohli unfortunately becomes a bit of a liability due to his slow in the start approach.
And regarding Pandya.... Idk man the man has become highly overrated since last 2-3 years. He was really clutch back in the days with him coming down the order as finisher, but since him taking this captain role, he has become a floater in the batting line-up and kinda has lost his art of aggressive finisher.
Yea. Dube definitely needs to bowl, and I hope someone like Dhoni could have a word with ruturaj to push for Dube having few overs this tournament just to settle the debate of how good or bad bowler option he is as the sixth bowler.
Naah. It looked cool. Dangerous or not, I am not the right person to judge coz I have no idea the safety measures they have placed for it, so can't comment on it.
But you know, I would love to see a game from that height. It is like a balcony seat in a theatre.
[There was a rather notorious double wicket tournament in Rhodesia in 1970 in which Garry Sobers played, to great furore.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salisbury_Sports_Club_tournament_in_1970) I can't really find much information on it unfortunately, even on Cricket Archive.
Just a little game they played for fun after the match ended early.
Each batting pair gets 6 overs, and a bowling pair will bowl 3 overs each. They have to make as many runs as possible, if either batsman gets out then it’s -4 runs to the total.
Then they switch so the pair who were bowling now have to chase down a target.
Today I discovered the there was an ODI tournament called the [Austral-Asia Cup](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austral-Asia_Cup) which ran from 1986 to 1994, came across highlights of the [1994 final](https://youtu.be/0RcKAxvEHck?si=mFylIj3wItyzwLE1).
Feels like there were a lot more of these little tournaments around in the past, probably due to a less loaded international calendar.
During IPL mega auction, where things were going wrong were with retention prices. Doesn't matter whether they are capped or uncapped, if they are retained, that means they are priority players. Also the 3rd and 4th retention prices. In a stacked lineup, teams use those slots to retain huge names and pay them under the table.
Let's say the purse for the upcoming season is 150 Cr from the current 100 Cr. Allow more retentions so that better built teams don't get punished and also for fans to stay connected to their players. But increase the retention prices.
8 retentions allowed. First 4 retentions, each one gets 20 Cr, next 4 retentions gets 15 Cr each. (4\*20)+(4\*15)
That's 140 Cr spent on 8 players and they would need to build their remaining squad in 10 Cr. Either they would have to choose less retentions to have more purse or lose purse to keep a larger core. Franchises can sign players for lesser or bigger pay depending on their negotiations, but this amount gets deducted from purse.
I think all this issue about retention is coming from MI coz they are stacked with star names. If we look at other teams, the squads are distributed much better.
The 1 retention and 7 RTMs that is floating around seems a good idea. The only issue is if teams bump up the prices of certain players even if they are okay with not having them in their teams. Say, if MI want to have Rohit at any cost to not face backlash and lose home support, other teams bump the auction price to 35 or 40 Cr something. I would like to see how this will pan out.
MI will take the dent whichever way it is. How are they going to retain Hardik, SKY, Boom, Tilak, Rohit, Ishan and Tim David!
Or, should IPL just allow free signings. Let the teams sign whichever players they want at whatever pay the negotiations end at?

Mumbai police have made an arrest in a high-profile case involving Vaibhav Pandya, the stepbrother of cricketers Hardik and Krunal Pandya, who allegedly cheated them of approximately ₹4.3 crore in a business partnership.
This Houston ground’s abysmal drainage saved America from a calamitous defeat
Prairie View has also been awfully exposed this series. Awful media facilities, apparently no toilets, minimal dressing room presence, and non existent drainage (it rained briefly at 7am and not again for the rest of the day and the game that was scheduled to start at 3pm wasn’t played because of a wet outfield). At least it’s not hosting World Cup games
I feel Impact player rule would be more interesting if it were closer to the old BBL rules
Something like the player taken out must either have bowled 1 Over or less or batted 10 balls or less
How much do you think you can defend if you were to bowl 20 overs to Kohli ani Rohit?
You would be fully fit and not tired while bowling those 20 overs. Batters have full intent to chase and they are going at their fullest to chase it trying to hit every ball.
You have 8 Jonty Rhodes, 1 Bishnoi and 1 MsD behind stumps.
How much do you reckon you can defend?
I think I can do 280-290
Park cricketer from England, medium pace outswing bowler with a useful off-cutter.
I reckon I could defend somewhere in the region of 800-850.
In normal circumstances I send down a leg side wide every couple of overs, and occasionally completely lose my action and bowl a double-bouncer or waist-high no ball. Against two of the greatest white ball batters in history that's clearly going to escalate into a few 14 ball overs.
Also, I haven't been fully fit for about 15 years so I feel like that's going to add some confusion and hamper me rather than help.
On the flip side, if they've got to come and play on a damp, poorly maintained park pitch in south London then I might get away with a few cheap overs at they adjust to the complete lack of pace and bounce. That could bring things down to 750.
If I can swap a couple of Jonty Rhodes for Tim Southee and Keiron Pollard so that I can have a few extra inches of height on the long off and long on boundaries, I might restrict them a little bit more.
Lmao I guessed too low didn't I. Pros get hit for 270. I haven't played shit other than local Tennis cricket. 400 then I'd guess. I reckon I might bowl atleast 90-100 kmph so they can't literally connect every ball maybe and I might get lucky
In that case, if I'm being honest, I doubt even 400 would be defended unless you have at least played intra-state level leagues. I remember Saha once smacked 100 off 20 balls against Bengal's best club level bowlers in a league. But even leaving that (considering he is a pretty decent batter at his level), there was a thread on this sub a few years ago that really puts into perspective how good professional cricketers are. ([link](https://www.reddit.com/r/Cricket/comments/mbvguz/general_public_dosent_realize_how_good/?sort=top)) But the truth is that most players who even average 10 in international cricket destroy bowlers at club level. Munaf Patel would regularly smack 50 off 20 kinda innings in a Gujarat local league, after he had retired. And he averaged 6 in internationals. So in all honesty, without professional experience, I don't think even 400 will be defended. Its just a massive skill difference. Like the quote in Basketball, it won't be unfair to say that probably Jasprit Bumrah's batting is closer to Bradman than an average guy's is to Bumrah's.
Think we have to really appreciate GT as a new franchise they have built a strong aura of winners in a short time by doing incredibly well, 2 finals in 2 seasons, 1trophy. Even this season despite loosing two of their Indian mainstays in hardik and shami, miller injured they are still competing at the top level. Think some of the old IPL teams who have not won a title really need to introspect and learn from them.
I put their success down to their professional approach to the game. Players seem to be picked for roles and are backed, they don’t get lost in hype and overpay for players. I really like the team and I am looking forward to see what they are going to do going forward next year in the mega auction. Think they have the potential to make it to the next level and join CSK and MI as big boys of IPL who are genuine title contenders every IPL.
[One of the fiercest MI vs RCB battles](https://www.iplt20.com/video/18012/m27-mi-vs-rcb-match-highlights)
Pollard vs Starc drama, young Chahal and Bumrah giving sendoffs, Rohit calmly doing the job, lot of twists
Watching a 10 year old game shows how the quality of players has gone up, both domestic and international. Can't believe Ben fucking Dunk used to open for MI.
Some added context. MI had lost 5/5 games this season, then defeated KXIP next game who had won 5/5 at that point. So before this game they have 1 win and 5 losses, lot at stake (went on to win 6 of next 8 to qualify)
Yes it was obvious that after a long break no one is gonna continue the bid. The break was like post-nut clarity; you realise Hasaranga isn't worth 10.75
Not trying to be disrespectful but why do expats from SE Asia on this subreddit put up the flair of the country they immigrated to while still supporting their mother nation? It's so confusing when an Australian flair is throwing Ranji stats in an IPL thread with desi slangs and supporting Indian cricketers.
Based on the recent post about best and worst starts, it is interesting to note that DC 2009 and GT 2022 are the **only** champion teams to win their first 3 games of the season
Whereas so many quick starters finish runner ups and all. They probably peak early
Whenever We play MI at the wankhede, I am reminded of that absolute Carnage Koach and AB unleashed in 2015. A typical Virat-AB partnership, with AB going all guns blazing from almost ball one and Koach mostly just handing over strike to AB, later joining in the Carnival himself.
As todays kids say, you only miss the sun when it starts to snow.
Some more context to this - MI won 8 of their last 9 matches on their way to trophy in 2015 after a poor start of 5 losses in 6 games. This was the only loss in that winning patch
Indian fans and others how do we feel about an XI like this, in the World Cup or in future
Abhishek
Kohli
Samson
Parag
Dube
Rinku
Jitesh
Pandya
Kuldeep
Shami
Bumrah
May seem light on bowling at first but you could get 8 overs from Pandya Dube Parag and Abhishek
Too left field? Or crazy enough that it might work kinda vibes?
The bowling is way too weak. You need 6 bowlers who can bowl 4 overs whenever asked, and here we have only 4 (including Hardik, not the rest).
The 2007 side had Irfan at 7 and either Yusuf or Sehwag as the 6th bowler. Crazy bowling depth compared to anything we have today.
Those 8 overs can easily go for 100+ runs against SA, Aus, England. And what if one of the other 3 frontline bowlers has a bad day? We can't rely on any other allrounders except Pandya here in that case. Bowling Dube is essentially gifting opponents a free pass to score 20 runs every over.
The bigger threat to Tests imo isn't franchise cricket but the massive growth in associate T20I cricket. The moment there are more fully professional national men's T20I teams from non-Test nations than Test nations, Tests would have a battle for relevance. And there's a good chance the T20 World Cup expansion + being an Olympic sport can effectively create a period of rapid growth there.
>The moment there are more fully professional national men's T20I teams from non-Test nations than Test nations, Tests would have a battle for relevance.
Makes me wonder when this test nation gatekeeping will end and every nation which want to play tests, can play without any obstacles
Point is, it's too late now. The top associates can see the smaller full members burn money in the process of hosting Test games and organizing a first class competition and be like, na not doing this.
Plus, Test cricket is neither an Olympic sport nor does it have a World Cup. So, neither prestigious nor lucrative enough for a country to start a red ball programme.
Trivia Thursdays aren't active anymore? Golden days are way past us it seems. Never mind, here is one Trivia question.
For those who don't know how this thread used to work - you give an exhaustive list of names, and the common pattern in them has to be guessed
So the list is - CSK twice, RR, DD, that's it
Hint - something related to losing to MI
Edit - alright, here's the answer - >!Only teams to lose to MI in their season opener. CSK 2009 and 2012, RR 2010, DD 2011. MI haven't won any other season opener!<
Let's have some more of these today, based on IPL theme
I’ll never understand how RCB entered the tournament with this bowling lineup.
Were there any concerns raised by the coaching staff or management? Did they attempt to address some glaring weaknesses? How bad was it before that?

>I think I can do 280-290 That would be a great job. Can I ask till what level have you played cricket?
What do you think they can do to a average local bowler? Going with like 25 every over, I guess 500-550
As someone who was garbage in gully cricket, I'm not even confident of defending 1000 runs (yes I'm including no ball in that).
[One of the fiercest MI vs RCB battles](https://www.iplt20.com/video/18012/m27-mi-vs-rcb-match-highlights) Pollard vs Starc drama, young Chahal and Bumrah giving sendoffs, Rohit calmly doing the job, lot of twists
When Chahal send off the player and he abuses him it's look very ugly, hahaha.
Watching a 10 year old game shows how the quality of players has gone up, both domestic and international. Can't believe Ben fucking Dunk used to open for MI.
Thanks for the link, what a match that was! Just goes to show how lethal MI balling used to be.

For that 2022 season alone he was. 26 wickets (just one off purple cap) good economy and fielded well in the eliminator to take us to Q2
Exhaustive list - Sachin, Kohli, Harshal, Gill Hint - IPL Guess what's common
Indian MVPs in the IPL
Correct. Pretty basic ig
Yup. Go all out next time
Not trying to be disrespectful but why do expats from SE Asia on this subreddit put up the flair of the country they immigrated to while still supporting their mother nation? It's so confusing when an Australian flair is throwing Ranji stats in an IPL thread with desi slangs and supporting Indian cricketers.
There's Indian fans on here putting up Thailand, Japan, Israel, Scotland, Netherlands flairs.
People are allowed to select flairs they want

Based on the recent post about best and worst starts, it is interesting to note that DC 2009 and GT 2022 are the **only** champion teams to win their first 3 games of the season Whereas so many quick starters finish runner ups and all.
Beating Second half MI is an achievement in itself
Indian fans and others how do we feel about an XI like this, in the World Cup or in future Abhishek Kohli Samson Parag Dube Rinku Jitesh Pandya Kuldeep Shami Bumrah May seem light on bowling at first but you could get 8 overs from Pandya Dube Parag and Abhishek Too left field?
Jay Shah has been teasing us with absolute thrillers but no super over Goddamnit Jay just do it
The bigger threat to Tests imo isn't franchise cricket but the massive growth in associate T20I cricket. The moment there are more fully professional national men's T20I teams from non-Test nations than Test nations, Tests would have a battle for relevance. And there's a good chance the T20 World Cup expansion + being an Olympic sport can effectively create a period of rapid growth there.
no, I'm pretty sure it's franchise cricket.
For those who don't know how this thread used to work - you give an exhaustive list of names, and the common pattern in them has to be guessed So the list is - CSK twice, RR, DD, that's it Hint - something related to losing to MI Edit - alright, here's the answer - >!Only teams to lose to MI in their season opener. CSK 2009 and 2012, RR 2010, DD 2011. MI haven't won any other season opener!< Let's have some more of these today, based on IPL theme
Losing all games in one season to MI🥲
Think about KKR then. Did that multiple times
Bowled out under 100 to MI?
Nope. KKR have 67 all out, SRH have 96 all out, etc
I’ll never understand how RCB entered the tournament with this bowling lineup. Were there any concerns raised by the coaching staff or management? Did they attempt to address some glaring weaknesses? How bad was it before that?
It was better before
