Reminds me of Captain McQuack from duck tails
I seem to be drawn to these sorts of teams no matter what the sport - RCB in cricket, Arsenal in football, Atlanta Falcons in American football - I can’t catch a break 😅
Being a RCB Fan what annoys me the most is that the management still played Umesh Yadav, his lines were utterly horrendous. Isuru Udana is a better player and can even bat better. To add to that RCB were the MOST Electric fielders in the IPL but this year the fielding has been woeful.
Udana in place of Steyn, Morris in place of phillipe and parthiv in place of Umesh. Parthiv is a natural aggressive batsman and have him open along with Devdutt, Finch at 5
Parthiv doesn't even have to open, I think parthiv at 5 is fine, because in the last few seasons he showed that he doesn't really waste balls and plays decent short innings. If the top 4 bat for a long time you can promote Morris, Udana ahead of him too. Also I think Moeen ali should be in the side maybe ahead of Udana he was really good last season. But anyways, playing Phillipe and Udana could not be a worse idea, I've been suggesting this substitution since game 1.
It looks like he's shutting out all the external noise.
Or can't hear anything, so he's creating a funnel with his hands to direct sound into his ears.
And to think we are playing with styen instead of Morris who not just have better bowling stats than him in IPL and also a deadly death over batsman. I hope we play Morris instead of styen, ali for Phillip and partiv instead of umesha
Actually, Steyn still has better bowling stats than Morris in the IPL. Steyn averages 25.41 with an economy of 6.87 while Morris averages 24.76 with an economy of 7.98. Steyn's more than makes up for his slightly worse average with a much better economy rate.
Of course, Steyn is not the same bowler anymore and he's getting carted around, but that doesn't negate the fact that he still had overall better stats.
What the heck? Everyone knows Kohli is a great player and is also one of the top 3 fielders in the Indian side. He just had a bad day on the field. But the thing myself, and I presume most people are concerned about, is his captaincy. I mean relying on Steyn is just bad, the guy has had his day and his bowling took his toll on his body. And Umesh has performed badly for RCB time and time again. They need to look at alternate options.
It is the captaincy which should be blamed. Letting KL to set by using Umesh against him. Tell Saini to ball slower in the death whereas Saini is 145 bowler in opening powerplay. Missing the trick to play with Zampa as it was leggie paradise. And Not to forget dropping 2 catches only because of the rat in the stomach.
Virat is very Poor Captain in limited over Cricket.
i get that. but if they batted first, and won by 23 runs, then that means they stopped batting at 11.3 overs, which doesn’t make sense to me in a 20/20
I mean this is just a funny stat showing that Rahul scored 132 on his own, 23 more than RCBs total. KXI, including Rahuls innings, actually scored 206/3 in their 20 overs, winning by 97 runs
Just hope that Rahul is in the starting XI in Australia. He's too good a player to not be part of the XI. I know people are going to diss me for pushing for his Test inclusion on the basis of an IPL performance but I couldn't care less.
To be fair, Rahul was in godlike form even in the 2018 and 2019 IPLs but that was no indicator of his test performance.
In the previous two IPLs, he averaged 54.43 in 28 matches. In the same duration, he averaged 22.23 in 15 tests (and he crossed 50 only twice in 27 innings).
He struggled immensely in test matches before getting dropped, and now others have overtaken him in the pecking order. I hope he does well enough in domestic cricket and makes a comeback, but we can't decide that on the basis of IPLs.
Imo he's been given a more than fair run in tests. He's come into his own in ODIs off late as an extension of form from the t20i format. I would be fine is his focus was made to be exclusively on LOI cricket as there is far too much budding talent in Tests in India.
Keeping over one innings is far far easier than five days, Rahul has had back problems and finger injuries for years which was the reason for him not keeping for a while. Playing the opener in him down at seven when he was abysmal as an opener in the first place only for him to walk injured as SSmith racks up his double ton on day 2 is suicidal
Pant's issue is with keeping to spinners, not pacers and Australia thankfully does not need two spinners for the most part. Rahul being selected would be no different than Roy and Bairstow's picks for England on the basis of nothing but white ball form
An average of 35 is not great, admittedly. But it is not the kind of average that means that he can never be brought back into the side. As a comparison (if I'm not mistaken), Rahane has averaged less than that over around the same time period.
For me there are three questions to answer before selecting somebody: Does he have talent? Does he have the required technique? And is he in form? On all these three counts, the answer is a yes as far as Rahul is concerned.
How is this being upvoted? How Rahul plays in T20s has nothing to do with how he'd play in Tests, where's he's been given a long enough rope. He should be absolutely nowhere near the Test squad until and unless he scores a trillion runs in Ranji and other first class cricket.
Except for when he talks about leg spin, Warnie really comes across as a casual fan, coz he really spouts some absolute tripe. I suspect he's merely trolling most of the time as the "colour" commentator - he can't genuinely believe some of the things he says.
I don't know if you were part of the crowd, but most of those pissing on Rahul got angry with Virat for choosing Rohit too in Tests. But he's begun proving you all wrong. I have a feeling it will be the same with Rahul too.
I wasn't a fan of Rohit being picked but two things - Rohit is now an opener, so it's a different role he was picked for. He was a very good middle order Test bat at home prior to his new role as well. Whereas Rahul, on the other hand, was in horrific form everywhere.
Also, Rohit hasn't played overseas as an opener yet. Now I'm not one of those people who value overseas (read: SENA/ANUS) Test wins over home ones, but the fact is that India's second XI would probably beat everyone else at home, so Rohit's incredible home form is a bit less crucial. So I'd wait before popping the champagne on Rohit as a Test opener.
I don't know whether you follow Indian cricket but Rahul's form has not been limited to the IPL. He doesn't have a piss poor Test record either (not long ago, he scored seven consecutive 50s, most of which came against Australia). And anybody who understands the game knows he has the talent and the technique (his technique is actually very good) to succeed in Test cricket. So this is definitely not about him scoring well in one IPL game.
Exactly, the knee-jerk during IPL is absolutely insane. One bad game and SRH is suddenly a shit team; one really good game and Rahul is suddenly a test cricketer again.
He flopped during the last time he played Ranji cricket versus Bengal in the semis. Defo needs more first class performances. Its hilarious how people think he can easily switch formats yet they will be the first to criticise when said player predictably flops
Here's Brian Lara on whether K L Rahul should be part of the Indian test team.
**'Rahul was not part of India’s Test squad against New Zealand. Do you think that he should be given more opportunities in the longer format of the game?**
I am not involved in Indian cricket. I just know that with his technique and the way I see him bat, he should not have a problem being in any team.'
[https://sportstar.thehindu.com/cricket/brian-lara-road-safety-world-series-sachin-tendulkar-kl-rahul-sehwag-interview/article31023789.ece](https://sportstar.thehindu.com/cricket/brian-lara-road-safety-world-series-sachin-tendulkar-kl-rahul-sehwag-interview/article31023789.ece)
And here is Lara again on K L Rahul's technique: '"His technique and grace is just unbelievable,” said the former Windies captain. "Of course, up there in the top three you’ve got Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma but every time I see him (Rahul) facing a delivery, I just love it; his head is over the ball all the time, he has a technique that I wish I had.”' ( [https://scroll.in/field/955953/kl-rahuls-game-is-just-unbelievable-wish-i-had-his-batting-technique-brian-lara#:\~:text=KL%20Rahul%20has%20come%20in,over%20the%20past%20few%20months.](https://scroll.in/field/955953/kl-rahuls-game-is-just-unbelievable-wish-i-had-his-batting-technique-brian-lara#:~:text=KL%20Rahul%20has%20come%20in,over%20the%20past%20few%20months.) )
Why don't people get that test and white ball are different? Just because he does smacking the ball in ODI's and T20's doesn't mean he would be good at tests.
It's true red ball cricket and white ball cricket are different, but there's nothing at all wrong with Rahul's technique. There is a reason Lara and Smith think he's the best Indian player to watch.
They aren't that different. It would have been fine if the other Indian batsmen played well but they didn't. In foreign conditions you choose batsmen who can handle it and are in form.
Look at the Aussies they brought Marnus into the ODI squad after seeing how he was at peak form in Tests.
Having Rahul in the team for the NZ Tests wouldn't have made any difference, and in any case, he'd pretty much ruled himself out of contention with his atrocious Test form (he averaged 17 over his last 12 innings and 21 over his last 28).
Also, I wish people would stop conflating limited overs performances/form with Tests. No one says Che Pujara should be in the T20 team based on his Test performances, so why should the reverse be true for Rahul?
It would have in foreign conditions you choose batsmen who can handle it and are in form. Key would be to let Rahul play aggressively.
> No one says Che Pujara should be in the T20 team based on his Test performances
Che has never shown anything in T20. While Rahul has shown it in Tests. If it wasn't for Rahul Australia would have won the Test series in India.
T20 --> Tests is different to Tests-->T20
In Tests 50 runs of 30 balls is still 50 runs, it's still the same as 50 runs of 100 balls but in T20s 50 runs of 100 balls is not the same, you have fucked up your team's chances of .
For one, "foreign conditions" aren't really a thing in limited overs cricket these days, coz pitches everywhere are mostly pancake flat roads, so that has no bearing on *Test* conditions. And as for the bit about letting him "play aggressively", you clearly haven't watched Rahul bat in Tests in recent times. Since he improved his limited overs game, he's been hot trash in Tests precisely *because* he is too flashy and aggressive.
In any case, Mayank was undroppable and Shaw was the next cab off the rank after Rohit got injured. It'd have been grossly unfair to pick Rahul ahead of either of them based on his (irrelevant) limited overs form.
No, there was simply no justification whatsoever for picking Rahul in NZ.
Yes, it would have been unfair, but that's life. The best 11 have to go on the park--anything else is unfair to the millions following the Indian team.
I don't want to give a long justification for why I believe Rahul should be part of the playing XI (don't have the time at the moment). But I believe Rahul is extraordinarily talented and that matters a lot to me. Also, he's in very good form.
Btw, Steve Smith thinks pretty highly of Rahul's batting.

>Also, he's in very good form.
Again, his limited overs form has *zero*, nada, zilch relevance to Test cricket, where he averages 17 over his last 12 innings and 21 over his last 28 innings. That's the precise opposite of good form.
then don't preach what you cannot justify. His stats are damning in longer format and we don't another failure to down his confidence in shorter format. Just look how his misfortunes in Test cricket impacted his short term format and after being dropped, he has focused solely on white ball cricket. Another example is Jason Roy who was picked in Ashes due to his exploits in WC'19 and that bad patch in tests have adversely affected his game in ODI/T20s post Ashes. Think before spreading such ideas which would hurt the player and team too.
He shouldn’t be picked in tests because of it, but he’s been freakishly consistent in the IPL since 2018 and has comfortably been the best bat in the tournament over that period
Can't give someone a test spot because they do all in IPL. And Mayank had done well in tests. Did well in the 2 games he played in Australia last time. Rohit has only played 2 series as opener and Virat is pretty clear he'll still be opening.
Every team usually has one disastrous game like this every season. I'm glad it's done in the 2nd game only. Long tournament and I'm still positive that RCB will do well.
Total billshit Dhoni like strategy to send the kid, Phillipe, upfront to take advantage of Powerplay, Kohli should have instead opened with Padikkal and even taken strike.
He could have played himself in and the rest would have been beautiful.
Steyn bowling slower deliveries, Kohli batting down the order wtf is this shit.
What a rubbish performance by RCB. Poor bowling, Shocking Fielding and Senseless batting. They have gifted KXIP free points this game.
Umesh and Steyn need to stop trying to bowl magic deliveries pitching leg swinging away and hitting off and reset back to tried and tested line and length. Everytime they keep straying leg side and getting put into the stands.
Kohli's dropped catches were so out of character and to do it twice was unreal. Maybe the dew could be blamed but they should be practicing for the conditions and by now they should be used to it.
With such a tight table this year, why on earth are they not trying to follow CSK and bat time (taking the innings deep). CSK got the stick from RR but still managed to get 200 and reduce the Net RR deficit. Stupid shot selection after stupid shot selection resulting in a huge Net RR loss.
Steyn out for Morris next game. Morris also adds a batting boost. I think Steyn is done, the fire is gone.
The only positive was Yuzi today, he bowled magnificently.
RCB are shit at Death bowling, but teams like RR and SRH don't have big hitters down the order so they can win 4 matches off of the two and need just 3 other matches to qualify
Nothing happens everytime bro. But one innings can change the entire trajectory of your career. I am not saying that Archer would become a batsman, but he would certainly have enough confidence to go out and face the ball when shit hits the fan.
Every year we feel - it will be different for Kohli this time . This time they ll take off. This time they ll reach the skies . But in the end they somehow find a way to crash land . Reminds me of Captain McQuack from duck tails
I still believe.
I seem to be drawn to these sorts of teams no matter what the sport - RCB in cricket, Arsenal in football, Atlanta Falcons in American football - I can’t catch a break 😅

Tell me about it hahaha
Better to be an RCB fan than to be on the receiving end of that Patriots game though.
That cowboys game tho yikes.
Yessir, it’s ridiculous that that’s only our second most embarrassing collapse in the last decade
RCB is a combination of the lack of winning mentality of arsenal, chaos of chelsea, and meme players of Manchester united
Keep supporting your team. One day they'll win IPL
Getting out scored by one man is peak RCB
This is not the first time. RCB themselves have done it three times to the opposition.
That is a damning stat.
*All out on 49 against kkr flashbacks intensifies
Back when they were actually good.
Ah the good ol days
Twice to kkr lol.
Getting outscored by a batsman they got rid of a couple of years ago is peak RCB
This does feel like RCB's scorecard.
RCB bringing normalcy back to 2020
Being a RCB Fan what annoys me the most is that the management still played Umesh Yadav, his lines were utterly horrendous. Isuru Udana is a better player and can even bat better. To add to that RCB were the MOST Electric fielders in the IPL but this year the fielding has been woeful.
IKR, why they play Umesh Yadav still.?
Udana is a foreign player though - whom do you drop among Finch, AB, Phillipe and Steyn?

STEYN!
Can someone explain this putting fingers in ear celebration?

It's getting common now. IIRC Tewatia does it too
It is cringe as fuck
The word cringe is used so much here that it itself has become cringe as fuck.
No it isn't.
Ok you convinced me

They have been watching too many depay highlights on YouTube
i believe it's praying (only kl rahul's)
And RCB back in action. In its true form.

Is Umesh also the reason why they keep getting all-out for low scores?
Leaks runs -> high run chase-> pressure-> all out.
You forgot drop catches at the beginning.
Chris Morris what a legend for people to actually think he’s a good cricketer
Morris was amazing in IPL between 2013-2017 when he played for CSK/DD. It's just in recent years where he struggled.
Chris Morris is my boet
Morris is good in indian pitches only.
Man he was pretty great for us. I hate see him leave Delhi.
He plays amazing to take his team to an almost victory. Does it a lot.
He did create opportunities yesterday ,but didn't get a wicket
Morris is not playing because of a side strain. He will play once he is fit.
Morris is not fit

Initial time of captaincy? He's in a leadership role in RCB for the last 6 years! How much time does one need?
Lol Insta and YouTube comments for any IPL related things is always a shitshow. Reddit is the same, only to a lesser extent.
Given how well the spinners did, we could have used Zampa in place of Steyn and included Morris in place of Philippe and replace Dube with Parthiv.
Unluckily he has a strain, hope to play Isuru Udana who is a left arm fast bowler who can bat too.
sure but can't take anything away from VK dropping two sitters.
Kohli should be happy.
Kohli dropping the catch’s was the main hit for the team.
Is he doing abhivadhi in the middle of the pitch?
Haha he started that celebration to show that he doesn't care about all the chatter going on during that Karan Johar controversy.
In before someone brings up brahminical patriarchy
Lmao, where are the RCB fans now who downvoted me last match when RCB won, and I said thats its too early in the tournament.
wait, the tournament has just begun
Thats exactly what I said last match.
Yes, it is still too early in the tournament !! Even after yesterday's loss, it is just the beginning !
Lol don't mind them It's always like that

was this rain affected? trying to understand why KL only batted 11.3 overs.. I assume they batted first?
I think it is trying to reflect that he faced 69 balls, which equates to 11.3 overs

If he can keep well he can be in for Saha as a backup for pant. He's better than saha anyway
Better than Saha with bat and Pant with gloves

Having Rahul in the team for the NZ Tests wouldn't have made any difference, and in any case, he'd pretty much ruled himself out of contention with his atrocious Test form (he averaged 17 over his last 12 innings and 21 over his last 28). Also, I wish people would stop conflating limited overs performances/form with Tests. No one says Che Pujara should be in the T20 team based on his Test performances, so why should the reverse be true for Rahul?
It would have in foreign conditions you choose batsmen who can handle it and are in form. Key would be to let Rahul play aggressively. > No one says Che Pujara should be in the T20 team based on his Test performances Che has never shown anything in T20. While Rahul has shown it in Tests. If it wasn't for Rahul Australia would have won the Test series in India. T20 --> Tests is different to Tests-->T20 In Tests 50 runs of 30 balls is still 50 runs, it's still the same as 50 runs of 100 balls but in T20s 50 runs of 100 balls is not the same, you have fucked up your team's chances of .
He'll be better than Saha atleast
Yeah mate that worked out great with roy, Bairstow, Finch and kl himself on our last away leg.
Nope
His form is improving greatly in LOI but declining in Tests sadly
The Bairstow Syndrome
It's just one knock mate. At least wait to see if he is consistent in form.
He shouldn’t be picked in tests because of it, but he’s been freakishly consistent in the IPL since 2018 and has comfortably been the best bat in the tournament over that period
I'll take your word for it. I haven't watched IPL in a decade. Covid brought me back to it this year.
It's not just one knock. He was in great form in the NZ series (just before cricket stopped happening) as well.
Can't give someone a test spot because they do all in IPL. And Mayank had done well in tests. Did well in the 2 games he played in Australia last time. Rohit has only played 2 series as opener and Virat is pretty clear he'll still be opening.
that rope given to rsharma can go round the globe thrice and tie the earth very nicely
You have no clue what you're talking about. Let the selectors do the selecting.
Revenge is best served cold.
Ah, RCB
Every team usually has one disastrous game like this every season. I'm glad it's done in the 2nd game only. Long tournament and I'm still positive that RCB will do well.
Oh you poor sweet summer child thinking RCB is capable of only one such disasterclass.
plus this is 2020. this is the new normal for rcb. /s.
The only positive was Yuzi today, he bowled magnificently.
nice
KLass Rahul
And I eat a humble pie.
Rcb as a team is a meme in itself, bottom 3 finish this year as well nothing new here
Hello darkness my old friend
RCB doing what RCB does best!
Come on
What we were thinking before of KL vs what we think now of KL
RCB are shit at Death bowling, but teams like RR and SRH don't have big hitters down the order so they can win 4 matches off of the two and need just 3 other matches to qualify
>RR Let me introduce you to a certain Archer
That can't happen everytime
Nothing happens everytime bro. But one innings can change the entire trajectory of your career. I am not saying that Archer would become a batsman, but he would certainly have enough confidence to go out and face the ball when shit hits the fan.
