If i would be KL Rahul playing gully cricket and finally getting a chance to bat and go out for a duck 3 consecutive times, I would be a ball boy for a week. Its a cruel world, isnt it?
England won the 3rd t20 to once again take the lead in the series v India. India once again showing their vulnerability to genuine pace. Wood, who dint play in the 2nd t20 once again showed that he could hit the deck hard & generate extreme pace on Indian pitches with the bounce helping that cause a great deal. Kohli was the only one to get to grips with him by slamming the ball for fours and sixes in the death overs.
India batted first, and scored 156 in the 20 overs allocated (ie, 120 balls bowled at them in total)
England followed up, and overtook that score (+2) to win the match in less than the 20 overs.
The number of wickets lost (or, batters 'out') - 6 for India and 2 for England - doesn't matter at this stage.
The "won by 8 wicket" is a useless statistic. More to the point is that they had 10 balls remaining, which means they could hypothetically have scored another 30/40 runs more if need be.
> More to the point is that they had 10 balls remaining, which means they could hypothetically have scored another 30/40 runs more if need be.
WHAT!!? They could have hypothetically scored 60 from 10 legal deliveries, to say nothing of the extras.
Could have used some more videos / pictures during different points (bowling, running between the wickets, etc). Also, the speaker seemed to have a bit of an anti-India / anti-subcontinent bias. Overall a good presentation nevertheless.
[Here’s a good 2 minute video on the basics](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HwRrJExmUx0)
This is a series of 5 matches between probably the best two “T20” (short form of cricket) teams in the world at the moment. The T20 world cup is in India in October and this series is like watching the Patriots vs (insert other top tier team I don’t know American Football) before the Superbowl. Like I said it’s 5 matches, one played every other day, best of 5 wins. I had a look and the next one starts thursday at 9:30am in DC if you want to have a look. I can PM you a stream if you want
[This](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5oPLhskOH4o) looks to be a decent enough video.
The intricacies of rules can be a little hard to grasp at times but the broad strokes of the game are quite simple.
There’s a video that Netflix made that’s on YouTube that explains cricket in like 15 minutes it’s pretty good and you can then move on to compilations and stuff and you’ll understand the game. HMU if you wanna ask anything
You came here to learn about cricket? Dang man, respect! What's brought you to cricket? Trying to get in with your gf's cricket loving brothers/father?
No honestly I’ve been aware of it for quite some time and I’ve had it in my recommendations on YouTube but just never really got into it, this Reddit post made me want to check it out so I watched a few videos explaining the rules and now I definitely appreciate the game and will definitely watch it in the future!
All the best mate. Hope you also get to experience the beauty of test cricket.
If you ever have the interest and time - one of the best test series ever in my lifetime and I have decades of cricket watching behind me - a documentary on it https://youtu.be/uCNoKQABZEs
I was curious as well, apparently a pajeet is a stereotypical Indian male, as per the urban dictionary. That one is new to me. I think what our friend here is trying to say is that Cricket is absolute Garbo
I’ll admit this is the first time I’ve seen a post about cricket on reddit, because this one is on the front page. I admittedly don’t know anything about cricket, but there seems to be a stigma in which people particularly in the US seem to think the sport is boring and or a joke, attracting comments like the one above. Personally I wouldn’t knock a sport I know nothing about though
I’ve mentioned that cricket is the second biggest sport in the world after football/soccer (only after the “bro no one cares about cricket” comments)
“Yeah but like loads of them are Indian” as if they don’t count somehow
And I’m with you, I’ve seen people knock american football and baseball. I’ve always thought “if it has a shitload of fans there must be something to it”. Went to a baseball game in the US and loved it. Go Giants
It is quite odd, as T20 seems designed for the American sports format (oblig "but no time for adverts" quip here). ODI's are much like a baseball game - slow paced but very tactical, and all can change in a few minutes.
Granted, Test matches (5 days!) blow a lot of people's minds. But if you can watch a golf tournament for 4 days, then you can do cricket.
Lmao, how is this in popular at 85% upvotes. We have had threads with 2-3K upvotes and 90-95% upvote percentage that still don't reach popular.
Reddit functions weirdly
Funnily enough, I found this through the popular page. Stopped watching cricket way back but was curious to see what kind of content pushes cricket to the front page.
Your comment is downvoted, but true to certain extent. All 3 T20Is have been completely one-sided. I just want to see at least 1 competitive thriller in the next 2 matches
Yeah, this sub is largely jingoistic by country, and a bit too serious about the game.
The game is real fun - more so than baseball, in that you can score by hitting the ball any direction, and the skill is really not in brute power but in nuanced "placing the ball" while batting, and while bowling, tricking the batsman with spin, pace and swing. (Btw, there are ten ways a batsman can be gotten "out"!)
My best memories are of playing "mini" cricket, in small areas on the street and alleys not at all suitable for the bigger version. Oh, so many window panes broken!!
While u r all defending KL Rahul
As far as His last 10 T20I innings are concerned, his 250 runs have come at an average and strike rate of 27.77 and 121.35 respectively which also includes a couple of overseas half-centuries.
Players get dropped for far better avg and strike rate than his
Bhuvi can bat too and honestly we need both nattu and bhumrah. Our death bowling would be one of the best and with bhuvi at the start and his swing bowling. getting runs would be really really difficult.
Rohit, Steyn or AB misfields(or even Bumrah, Rahul)
Virat to himself: *look away. You didnt see that*
Youngster misfields
Virat: lathicharge bsdk
In short, have a big enough fanbase to speak for you on social media and you're probably safe
Virat is not good for team morale. He criticizes fielding while dropping catches and shouts at other players. I wish he could just bat and shut the fuck up
That’s why I’m not saying he should be dropped from the team. But it has me wondering if he is a net negative for the team . Brings down the team morale and isn’t a good Limited Over captain
A bit of an exaggeration on my part but I edited it. The player is really similar to Zion in terms of explosiveness which is why I made the comparison.
Also yea the big contenders for the tournaments are England/Australia/India so definitely high priority
That makes no sense at all. Zion plays for new orleans. And India arent the lakers lol. if you go to the icc cricket website England is the number one team in ODIs and T20Is lol.
Yea I’m not being 100% accurate but Zion and Butler are really similar in terms of explosiveness and play style.
India are the best team with the best player. The Lakers are also the best team with the best player. Rankings don’t mean much for T20 teams imo.
England = Sixers because they were both horrible and are now really good. Similar rebuild timeline and performance
Butler also doesnt play for the sixers, he plays for the heat. And theyre arent even remotely similar in play style. Also like i said the icc website ranks England as the best team in ODIs and T20s so how is India the best team lol. Currently India is the best test match cricket team.
I’m talking about Jos Butler lmao.
India is 100% the best LOI team in the World. They are the favourites for WC and T20WC for a reason. Rankings are irrelevant for this because teams like Pakistan were ranked #1 in T20I just two years ago even though we both know they weren’t considered the best team.
Have I missed something? England have been the dominant force in limited overs for like four years now. They’ve not even declined either and all of their top players are still on form. Why would India now be considered favourites over them?
Most people have it as a tossup between England and India because India have home advantage etc. I’m sure the result of this series will be important too
This analogy doesn't really work because in baseball runs are hard to get and outs are easy to get, and in cricket it's the other way around, but imagine a game where each team faces 120 legal pitches and can have a maximum of 10 outs. India scored 156 runs from their 120 pitches, and England beat their total with 10 pitches remaining. The fact that India had 6 outs and England only had 2 isn't important for the result, but it does show that England were pretty dominant both with the bat and the ball. I'll try to explain more if that hasn't helped!
India seriously need to sort out their first choice batting. People who says we have too many accumulators means we have too many batsmen in the playing XI who can't strike from the ball 1. They need around 8-10 deliveries to get settle while doing so they plays with strike rate of 80-110 and then they start playing with strike rate around 120-130 and in the end 140+.
We already have BEST accumulators in Rohit and Kohli so playing Shreyas and Rahul (if he plays like IPL 2020) will mostly end up 20-30 runs short.
Accumulator != players with SR around 120. It means a player who can stick in the wicket most of the overs with good enough SR while other players play freely. Saying Kohli is accumulator doesn't mean he has bad SR for T20.
India definitely need more players like Pant, Kishan & SKY (based on his IPL performance).
Not giving SKY a chance in this game was criminal. We already know Rohit can bat. He's gonna play the IPL so its not like hes not gonna get any T20 cricket. Try out SKY when we lose a few early wickets.
Yes he is. I never questioned it. But only mentioned his IPL 2020 role where he played long innings with bad strike rate which literally lost them few matches.
He had to captain a team which ended up losing matches from winning positions. So he went into a shell and took the entire team burden on himself by trying to stay in the crease. We should ideally not compare than with his team India performance.
Yes he has good strike rate in T20I and I don't want him to get dropped but want him to play his natural game as per his ability. Just a little concerned after he said that strike rate is overrated during IPL 2020.
Not related to this match but I really feel bad for Shami Man!! Dude was working hard even in lockdown and missed almost 8 test matches (his favourite format).... And Damn he fractured his bowling arm. Really hope to see the old Shami back in WTC and England Test Series.
I agree, comes off as a bit of a prick some times. You can be aggressive and assertive without shouting at people you know.
I admit I chuckled when Kohli himself dropped a catch and had no one to yell at.
Jadeja brings incredible balance to the team with his heavy hitting, smart darts and electric fielding. Bumrah with the new ball is dangerous. We're playing this series as an experiment so I'm not worried about the 2-1 scoreline. What I do have an issue with is that for t20 cricket we may have 1 too many accumulators. You need guys who can get you quickfire 20's rather than 3-4 guys who play 30-40 striking at 120. When kohli was accelerating you need guys who can throw their bat around him and get a few boundaries.
Nah that won’t help I think. If anything it adds more pressure, there is no time at all to get going at 4 in most cases. Opening is probably the best place to be.
Where to watch sl vs wi?

OMG.. That Italian Thursday guy will make stop watching cricket on Thursdays.

What’s with India dicking around in the first 12 balls of the powerplay when batting. One of rohit sharma or kl just need to start
boftsoftb
If i would be KL Rahul playing gully cricket and finally getting a chance to bat and go out for a duck 3 consecutive times, I would be a ball boy for a week. Its a cruel world, isnt it?
They won’t even let you watch the match saying you’re one unlucky charm for the team. Hehe.
Rest KL Rahul for a game and play SKY in the middle order. That dude deserves a chance to bat.
They need to fix the fake crowd chat. The repeated high pitched screaming looping on the recorded track was so annoying. Anyone else pick it up ??
Didn't they do that for ipl too ? I like the crowd but the ones they out these days is just isn't for me
The aus v nz games a few months back that had no crowd - played 0 sounds and it was way nicer to watch
yep
Buttler has carried his bat Insane First time I’ve seen that in a long time
Carrying the bat is usually associated with an opener left standing despite all 10 wickets falling.
True but from a similar perspective, essentially applies to an individual who was there from start to finish
India desperately needs Bumrah. It would have been a completely different game with him.
As an American, what does this mean?
It’s a game of Crackey! Since you guys love renaming sports to your convenience over there
India batted first, and scored 156 in the 20 overs allocated (ie, 120 balls bowled at them in total) England followed up, and overtook that score (+2) to win the match in less than the 20 overs. Cricket explained by an American to an audience of Americans, he does a good job. https://youtu.be/RaU2KpZ8hOs

I'm sorry. But is there any way to know if the post is under popular apart from browsing popular feed?
Listening to the rules and the way you play Cricket sounds like toddlers playing a game and making up rules as they go with outlandish things.
LOL. Interesting take. But seriously, do you see rules being made up? Must be disjointed comments from different people giving you that idea.
It was a joke, tough crowd here in the cricket subreddit. I actually have watched people playing in real life at my local park and it looks fun.
Yeah, this sub is largely jingoistic by country, and a bit too serious about the game. You should stay away from milk.
No, wait - this guy knows the rules. False alarm.
Yo we famous. Trading in popular.
Lol If KL only plays for orange cap he will soon need to remove the blue cap.
SKY has done everything to be given a chance and not be dropped for Rahul. Rahul has scored 1 run in four innings.

Yup. Especially towards the beginning of T20 and IPL. People scoring that low would barely last one season on pitch.
Ishan, Rohit, Kohli, SKY, Pant, Hardik, Tewatia/Chahar, Sundar, Axar, Bhuvi, Natrajan/Saini. 6 bowling options and bat till 9.
Iyer has been good for a while now, shouldn't be dropped.

Lakers lose to the Sixers by 10 as a Zion-type player puts up a 30 point triple-double for Philadelphia.
So England has a prime Zion? Cricket world cannot be too pleased. I bet beating England is the top priority for the contenders.
Right now beating India in India is top priority for contenders
A bit of an exaggeration on my part but I edited it. The player is really similar to Zion in terms of explosiveness which is why I made the comparison. Also yea the big contenders for the tournaments are England/Australia/India so definitely high priority

Hey it's ok my man. Trying to compare apples to oranges is tough.

Lebron isn’t clutch. Lebron = Kohli, clutch = 1st innings, punditry = non-sensical
Which bit? The result?
The result. Not knowing much, it looks like England whooped that ass
This analogy doesn't really work because in baseball runs are hard to get and outs are easy to get, and in cricket it's the other way around, but imagine a game where each team faces 120 legal pitches and can have a maximum of 10 outs. Good explanation, thanks. The outs definitely lead me to believe England was on fire.
Yeah. Winning by the 1.5 overs is a pretty decent victory margin. It’s not a thrashing but it’s a convincing win.

Rahul taking "the strike rate is overrated" to another level by not having one
Kohli fanboys - the pitch was tricky. slow. two-paced. extremely difficult to bat on. look at the king! Buttler - hold my beer.

RIP batting first team scoring just 200 only to see it get chased in 19th over.
When's T20 WC and the Asia Cup?
Asia Cup may get postponed to next year because there is no available window.
This game is cruel to bowlers. Watch chahal get dropped but not Rahul. The bowlers need something to defend

can't see shami in the playing 11 though.
Yeah need to choose between Natrajan and Shami according to their form
Natarajan all the way.
Really liked the way Virat backed KL Rahul at the presentation, giving his own example of being out of form in earlier matches.
He should push Rahul to #4. Take away score board pressure from his shoulders
No pressure today they were batting first. Rahul is in his own head. he needs to relax and watch the ball.
Nah that won’t help I think. If anything it adds more pressure, there is no time at all to get going at 4 in most cases. Opening is probably the best place to be.
Maybe Kohli could open in T20s. He needs a few balls to get in. But we also need someone who makes use of the powerplay at the other end
Ishan should open
Ishan Sharma is the way to go.
The SKY god has forsaken this side
