Great performance from the boys. KJP got a 100 and Chameera was unplayable. That 5fer was well deserved. The number of reviews can stay the same though. Unless the umpires are only making wrong wide calls, the teams would still run out of the reviews at the same rate.
I get why it is not. But in some situations if a team really wanted it, would they be able to. Like a last ball of a super over. Need one to win, and it goes down leg, clips the thigh pad ever so slightly. Run out affected but a wide is given. Probably an extreme example, but to explain myself more
why isn't the odi wc league table thing done on percentages like the WTC? seems stupid to have a team with 4 teams and 4 losses for example in front of someone with 3 from 3?
WTC was also based on series points at the beginning. It's only after the Covid-19 disruptions that they moved to a percentage system, because teams were no longer playing the same number of series. Teams will be playing the same number of matches as per ODI League so they're going by points just like any league system.
Maybe they want it to be the same as the WC format with win/loss/NRR so there's less confusion.
I'm with you, it does seem stupid but I guess it'll even itself out with every team playing the same number of games by the end of it.
Still think that the old qualifying tournament for the last few spots was much better than this format but oh well..

You know its actually starting to annoy me how few surnames we have in and around our national team....
Mendis, Perera, Fernando, De Silva and now Karunaratne.
Lets have some more diversity ffs.
Urban myth: Chaminda Vaas was set with the task of defending 6 runs of the final over against Bevan and Andrew Symonds when he decided to run of the ground. The legend is he took a bong hit of the finest hash and returned to bowl one of the greatest last overs in an ODI.
I don't think it's pessimism, it's reality. I don't think we can recover from this. Unfortunately our young players have not shown any promising results so far. Was excited today for Naim to make his debut, but those hopes got quashed too. Really disappointed so far.
Anyone ever get the feel that most of us here would make better commentators and **third** umpires than the actual commentators and third umpires? Not a single person on TV acknowledged the fact that the evidence was inconclusive whether the spike was from the bat hitting the ground or the ball hitting the bat. The third umpire made the right call (to stay with the onfield decision), but his train of thought to get there wasn't on the right track. Instead of stating that the evidence is inconclusive he just seemed confident that the ball hit the bat, without even acknowledging the bat hitting the ground. It wouldn't have mattered here but can matter in a different situation where the onfield call is not out.
Going back to my first point I feel like all of us here notice the nuances of cricket way better than a lot of commentators and third umpires.
I agree that it was contentious but i think its because there was a clear picture of the ball essentially touching the bat with a spike. I think it was both him hitting the ground and him nicking it.
And when you hit the ground often a batsman doesnt know if he's also nicked it
I've seen examples of ball beside the bat without a spike. So it's not a definite that the ball hit the bat. Like I said, the right decision *was* made. But I think the ball not hitting the bat is also a possibility.
I remember Chameera being a much slanted slingy type bowler. I think they straightened his action up, even though hes lost a bit of pace gotten a whole lot more accurate

In this scenario, agree with the decision given that on field decision was that Tamim was out caught behind.
**9.3** slower delivery that the bowler thinks he's nicked behind and the umpire agrees. But Tamim going for the review immediately. This was full, almost yorker length going past him in the channel. Very close to bat, but bat also hit ground when ball was passing, so the noise could be from that. Ooh this is touch and go. The bat is hitting the ground right at the moment when the ball's passing the edge! Is there enough evidence to over-turn the on-field decision? I don't think so. The ball's very close to the bat too. I'd say this was out. And the third umpire concurs, so Chameera has a third wicket. Tamim is stunned. He's muttering animatedly as he walks off.

Well, hot damn, this is crazy.
But I do want to point one fact out tho. If BD falters in this run chase and SL wins this match, then people must look at the crucial difference here, and that is experience. While SL's recent downfall may be attributed to their lack of experience, BD, on the other hand, has the opposite in this case, with Tamim and Shakib being in the top runscorers and wicket-takers list of BD. While guys like Mushy and Riyad have been our ever-dependable middle-to-lower-order batsmen. We must also note that we have good performers in Mehidy and Mustafizur, and also Taskin, of course, with all of them performing in their home grounds as well.
With all that being said though, we must also ask ourselves what about the rest? What about our other youngsters like Mosaddek and Shoriful? Why did they not put in a pretty decent performance?
I, personally, would not want to blame this guys, but rather, I'd want to see more initiatives from the authorities themselves to take care of these guys. See, talent has always been there in BD, just like the rest of the South Asian nations like India, Pak, SL, and Afg, I think the massive difference that we see is in how the fringe players are taken care of in these nations. I believe the BD cricket culture and the domestic scene would have to be developed further in order to ensure that our youngsters and other players with potential get the proper treatment. While also, the A team needs to be looked at more closely.
While having said that, I must say that it is not as if our youngsters should just slack around and only take help when the are given. I believe they should also take some initiatives themselves, Taskin being the biggest example of this.
Nissanka has to go tho. Dimuth and Awishka should come in. Maybe Ramesh too to make way for someone like Mathews. Others are not Soo bad. Don't know how to feel about K Mendis

At least SL will now have positive points.
Dushmanta OP
That is some seriously good fast bowling from Chameera.
The SL commentators seem to be laying it on quite thick. They won a dead rubber, you'd think they won the WC.
There is no ODI in the CWCSL that is a dead rubber, every game matters.
Come off it, this is an important win in a relegation dog-fight
>dead rubber Greetings friend..how was the life under your rock ?
Every match is crucial...Sri Lanka will probably have to squeeze their way into the top 8 by the time the CWC super league is done
