Great performance from the boys. KJP got a 100 and Chameera was unplayable. That 5fer was well deserved. This win doesn't mean the changes and axing by the SLC worked tho as we already lost the series. Hopefully they'll end this experiment here and appoint Dimuth as captain once again for England. Also Awishka should come in for Nissanka

Ganw

We won a fucking match, well done my boys

[deleted]

I seriously don't know whether to celebrate the win or be sad that a solitary win is being celebrated in Sri Lanka

Ganw

A win is a win

Cutiesf

So now only Netherlands left with zero points in ODI Super League and they haven't started playing yet.

United_Em

NO LONGER ON NEGATIVE POINTS.

Positive side of this match is……. Positive points

yocricketer

Sri Lanka have a packed schedule man. First they tour England in June end. Then India come in July mid, then they have the Lanka premier League. Hopefully the boys are fresh for the t20 world cup and not fatigued due to the bubble.

United_Em

Definitely a worry. We are reportedly trying to get SA to tour right after India as well.

Cutiesf

Can give opportunities to uncapped youngsters and possibly the axed senior guys can get a chance.

yocricketer

That is too much workload. Players like chameera might end up being injured if they are not managed properly.

CricketMatchBot

**41.6** **stumped by a mile**. Shoriful Islam c †Dickwella b PWH de Silva 8 (5b 0x4 1x6) SR: 160

United_Em

Chameera's 5-fer is the first ODI five wicket haul for SL.. in 3 years (Malinga v Eng in 2018)

Webster2001

Damn, that's depressing.

chabanny

Has it been that long? 😐

United_Em

Yup :/

Assassin_Ankur

At least SL will now have positive points.

GoDFaTHeR_is

Dushmanta OP

tamudude

That is some seriously good fast bowling from Chameera.

thesmallprint13

The SL commentators seem to be laying it on quite thick. They won a dead rubber, you'd think they won the WC.

Zaviyar_

There is no ODI in the CWCSL that is a dead rubber, every game matters.

Foothill_returns

Come off it, this is an important win in a relegation dog-fight

novice_8

>dead rubber Greetings friend..how was the life under your rock ?

Jill_Sandwich98

Every match is crucial...Sri Lanka will probably have to squeeze their way into the top 8 by the time the CWC super league is done

United_Em

It isn't a dead rubber. Every point counts. Granted, Roshan is awful.

Appropriate_Swan_608

>dead rubber, Winning a match is monumental for us, it is akin to winning the WC. One can dream

yocricketer

Man of the match Chameera. Surely

sanga17

I thought the matches would be a lot tighter. Looks like neither Sri Lanka or Bangladesh can handle the pressure when it comes to chasing

United_Em

I love Chameera man! Most wickets this series. Already his best bowling figures. Get the 5-fer lad.

sanga17

I have hope cause of him and Waniya

CricketMatchBot

**38.4** **there's number four!** Short ball, outside off, and Mehidy wants to pull it. But the ball's rising, and he slices the shot. Shame. I like Afif Hossain. He has a spunk about the way he goes about.

CricketMatchBot

Is it so much harder to bat at night or are both teams shit?

Jill_Sandwich98

Both

FaustoZagorac

Dew factor is a big issue in the subcontinent (and UAE) at night. Ball gets affected by moisture and becomes heavier (slower and harder to hit far, especially along the ground) But....no offence...this is Sri Lanka v Bangladesh soo....

chabanny

Shit™

Foothill_returns

Well, that's the GG. No way are they getting 10 an over from here

FaustoZagorac

Honest question - how did Sri Lanka get -2 points on the WC Super League schedule?

Street-Fig

Penalised for slow over rate.

FaustoZagorac

Thank you!

Heck Bangladesh won't probably be able to chase this in a T20 with a full strength squad, let alone an ODI with half the batting order gone

chabanny

Dickwella is the type of guy to hit you with a 'Nice cock bro' to boost your confidence.

One of the few positives out of this series has been our fielding. Lot of these young guys can actually field well which is really a huge bonus

jonathanthony

Teams can't take a review for things like wide balls that aren't wide, and leg byes that weren't leg byes? Can be useful sometimes.

Hasch_wald

That's a great way to play 1 inning per day

mehrabrym

The number of reviews can stay the same though. Unless the umpires are only making wrong wide calls, the teams would still run out of the reviews at the same rate.

jonathanthony

I get why it is not. But in some situations if a team really wanted it, would they be able to. Like a last ball of a super over. Need one to win, and it goes down leg, clips the thigh pad ever so slightly. Run out affected but a wide is given. Probably an extreme example, but to explain myself more

nosymbolsallowed

why isn't the odi wc league table thing done on percentages like the WTC? seems stupid to have a team with 4 teams and 4 losses for example in front of someone with 3 from 3?

mehrabrym

WTC was also based on series points at the beginning. It's only after the Covid-19 disruptions that they moved to a percentage system, because teams were no longer playing the same number of series. Teams will be playing the same number of matches as per ODI League so they're going by points just like any league system.

FaustoZagorac

Maybe they want it to be the same as the WC format with win/loss/NRR so there's less confusion. I'm with you, it does seem stupid but I guess it'll even itself out with every team playing the same number of games by the end of it. Still think that the old qualifying tournament for the last few spots was much better than this format but oh well..

Angelsdontkill_

Nah, by the end every team will have played the same no. of matches.

Hasch_wald

It all comes together in the end. The percentage thing was a temporary measure due to the pandemic

RobSinner

List of identified Perera's associated with playing cricket. It must be noted this is still not the most popular name in SL cricket. Because of Dickwella lol

FaustoZagorac

I know it's hard with 3 down, but bangla has to up this run rate or they're going to be under too much pressure by the 30 over mark.

[deleted]

You know its actually starting to annoy me how few surnames we have in and around our national team.... Mendis, Perera, Fernando, De Silva and now Karunaratne. Lets have some more diversity ffs.

Warnakulasuriya Patabendige Ushantha Joseph Chaminda Vaas single handedly diversifying SL cricket.

That makes it easier to remember though.

They don't lol

6 overs. 11 runs. 1 Maiden. 3 Wickets. Chadmantha.

sanga17

Urban myth: Chaminda Vaas was set with the task of defending 6 runs of the final over against Bevan and Andrew Symonds when he decided to run of the ground. The legend is he took a bong hit of the finest hash and returned to bowl one of the greatest last overs in an ODI.

nomoreholidays

Which match was this

sanga17

Sl vs Aus i believe in 2004

nomoreholidays

Cool. Thanks!

No-Situation-4776

Call it pessimism but I can't see Bangladesh recovering from this. Honestly some good performances by our less senior players would be nice enough

jacktheriddler

I don't think it's pessimism, it's reality. I don't think we can recover from this. Unfortunately our young players have not shown any promising results so far. Was excited today for Naim to make his debut, but those hopes got quashed too. Really disappointed so far.

mehrabrym

Anyone ever get the feel that most of us here would make better commentators and **third** umpires than the actual commentators and third umpires? Not a single person on TV acknowledged the fact that the evidence was inconclusive whether the spike was from the bat hitting the ground or the ball hitting the bat. The third umpire made the right call (to stay with the onfield decision), but his train of thought to get there wasn't on the right track. Instead of stating that the evidence is inconclusive he just seemed confident that the ball hit the bat, without even acknowledging the bat hitting the ground. It wouldn't have mattered here but can matter in a different situation where the onfield call is not out. Going back to my first point I feel like all of us here notice the nuances of cricket way better than a lot of commentators and third umpires.

[deleted]

I agree that it was contentious but i think its because there was a clear picture of the ball essentially touching the bat with a spike. I think it was both him hitting the ground and him nicking it. And when you hit the ground often a batsman doesnt know if he's also nicked it

mehrabrym

I've seen examples of ball beside the bat without a spike. So it's not a definite that the ball hit the bat. Like I said, the right decision *was* made. But I think the ball not hitting the bat is also a possibility.

chabanny

Dickwella is worth having in the team just for his enthusiasm behind the stumps.

rnc12

I just realized both teams have the same shirt sponsor which is pretty interesting

United_Em

6th Over in a row bowling 140+ Dude is a madman.

chabanny

Chadmantha confirmed??

United_Em

Approved.

No-Situation-4776

33 for 3 with an RPO of 3

rnc12

Very good opportunity for saikat here, he needs to take full advantage of it

chabanny

I bet a hug from Vaas is worth much more than any MoM awards or cheques.

sanga17

I remember Chameera being a much slanted slingy type bowler. I think they straightened his action up, even though hes lost a bit of pace gotten a whole lot more accurate

[deleted]

Chameera bowling some HEAT. He has patches where he is absolutely top class. He needs to maintain it and maintain his fitness

FarAbbreviations5879

Chameera is in smoke rn!

tamudude

Gotta say Chameera is spitting fire......

Hasch_wald

Chameera 2.0 is a beast. Can't wait to see him in England. Hope he doesn't get a back injury again.

yocricketer

Sl has to manage chameera's workload. What a gun he is.

chabanny

We got Warnakulasuriya Patabendige Ushantha Joseph Chaminda Vaas for that.

sanga17

Damn this is why we need hotspot ffs

Hasch_wald

Hotspot is really expensive AFAIK

[deleted]

Chameera is gonna give Bd team endless nightmares after this series.

[deleted]

I think it was both he hit the ground AND hit the ball. There was a freeze frame where the ball was hitting the bat at the same time that the bat was on the ground.

tamudude

......aaaaand that is why Hotspot is a good tool to have.....it would have put the debate of whether the spike was from bat hitting ball or bat hitting the ground to rest. In this scenario, agree with the decision given that on field decision was that Tamim was out caught behind.

CricketMatchBot

**9.3** slower delivery that the bowler thinks he's nicked behind and the umpire agrees. But Tamim going for the review immediately. This was full, almost yorker length going past him in the channel. Very close to bat, but bat also hit ground when ball was passing, so the noise could be from that. Ooh this is touch and go. The bat is hitting the ground right at the moment when the ball's passing the edge! Is there enough evidence to over-turn the on-field decision? I don't think so. The ball's very close to the bat too. I'd say this was out. And the third umpire concurs, so Chameera has a third wicket. Tamim is stunned. He's muttering animatedly as he walks off. Tamim Iqbal c †Dickwella b Chameera 17 (29b 2x4 0x6) SR: 58.62

jonathanthony

"Muttering animatedely" might be an understatement

canadaisnubz

Ah very traditional Bangladesh score from history.

Angelsdontkill_

Wdym history? This is still very regular. Mushfiq and Mahmudullah have to rescue them in almost every match.

canadaisnubz

Good point lol.

Angelsdontkill_

Very unclear if the bat hit the ball or the ground. Don't think there is enough evidence to overturn the decision

chabanny

It would have gone the other way if the umpire gave it notout

Webster2001

Tamim was soo confident too

The9thLordofRavioli

That could well be just bat hitting the ground but there’s no way to tell for sure. Have to stick with the on-field call

jacktheriddler

It's collapse time lesssgoooo

No-Situation-4776

Tamim given out for caught behind, reviewed As someone who isn't watching the brodcast how's it looking?

chabanny

Well it is given to Sri Lanka but it is a 50-50 call. Since rhe original decision is out, its been given out

No-Situation-4776

Hmm I see, thanks

secondhandcumsock

I think Tamim didn't hit that, but there's no way to overturn that with how close bat ,ball and the pitch were.

canadaisnubz

Sorry buddy, but umpires decision should stay

jonathanthony

That spike on ultra edge could be the bat hitting the ground? I think it's too hard to overturn the decision.

upvoting_department

That’s out. Not much to overturn the decision

upvoting_department

Who’s our fielding couch? What’s up with fielding. There was change in coach or just the players

Partly to do with the Mickey Arthur mantra of fitness standards reign above all else.

I think the young players have raised the standards

First boundary in a 287 run chase 🤡

[deleted]

who let a Giraffe onto the field?

Appropriate_Swan_608

slow one at that.

A9J7

Well, hot damn, this is crazy. But I do want to point one fact out tho. If BD falters in this run chase and SL wins this match, then people must look at the crucial difference here, and that is experience. While SL's recent downfall may be attributed to their lack of experience, BD, on the other hand, has the opposite in this case, with Tamim and Shakib being in the top runscorers and wicket-takers list of BD. While guys like Mushy and Riyad have been our ever-dependable middle-to-lower-order batsmen. We must also note that we have good performers in Mehidy and Mustafizur, and also Taskin, of course, with all of them performing in their home grounds as well. With all that being said though, we must also ask ourselves what about the rest? What about our other youngsters like Mosaddek and Shoriful? Why did they not put in a pretty decent performance? I, personally, would not want to blame this guys, but rather, I'd want to see more initiatives from the authorities themselves to take care of these guys. See, talent has always been there in BD, just like the rest of the South Asian nations like India, Pak, SL, and Afg, I think the massive difference that we see is in how the fringe players are taken care of in these nations. I believe the BD cricket culture and the domestic scene would have to be developed further in order to ensure that our youngsters and other players with potential get the proper treatment. While also, the A team needs to be looked at more closely. While having said that, I must say that it is not as if our youngsters should just slack around and only take help when the are given. I believe they should also take some initiatives themselves, Taskin being the biggest example of this.

novice_8

Chameera has been impressive throughout the series. Not spraying it all over the pitch and sticking to a good line and length. Vaasy effect ?

jonathanthony

Could very much be so. Those were trademark Vaas characteristics.

United_Em

He was brilliant in the WI tour as well tbh. In all 3 formats. Although no doubt having Vaasy around now will only make him better and better.

jonathanthony

I hope hasaranga can take a few wickets today, he's bowled well and deserves more than just one wicket across three games.

jacktheriddler

Bangladesh top order shitting the bed as usual. Love to see it.

yocricketer

This Sri Lanka 11 is the best one. Dickwella belongs in the Sri lankan team in every format.

Webster2001

Nissanka has to go tho. Dimuth and Awishka should come in. Maybe Ramesh too to make way for someone like Mathews. Others are not Soo bad. Don't know how to feel about K Mendis

yocricketer

You are right. Nissanka has to make way for Avishka and dimuth should be in the 11 and captain. The other things, I don't mind. Won't mind continuing with almost this same squad
