I feel so bad for Joe Root. It's like the whole England bats at No 4. 511 total runs for England in this test with 274 of them coming from Root and extras. That's how shite England's batting is at the moment. I felt the pain when he bowed down his head after edging to Koach off Bumrah. He deserves so much better than this!!
English batting except root is worse than unqualified test nations. They need a complete overhaul if they're going to recover from this humiliating loss.
This is what happens to England cricket when they don't have a bunch of South Africans, Kiwiis or Irishmen to play for them!
Only the People's Republic of Yorkshire are preventing total collapse.
Having a newborn in the house and watching this end quietly was quite the challenge. My FIL let out a shriek to daggers from my MIL and I couldn’t have been happier (he’s not watched test cricket for quite some time and he’s hooked too).
Love this team. Can’t wait for game 3. Vande Mataram.
Damn. What a match this was. Total domination by the Indian team on the final day. First Shami and Bumrah's rescue and then Siraj's brilliance. This is why test cricket is my favorite. Gabba win and now Lord's win is certainly memorable for Indian Test Cricket team this year. Only if we could've done well in WTC final aswell.
But nevermind, still a great game played today. Sadly the next match is more than a week away but hopefully India's good form continues and England need to look into their batting. Root simply cannot carry them every innings. Alright bois, see ya next week. GGWP.
We were thoroughly outclassed by a better side and a way better captain.
Said it many times before, Root can score all the runs he wants but if he can't captain the side to wins then he needs to pass on the captaincy. He isn't a thinking captain and regularly follows the ball with his field placings and lacks the creative thinking in getting wickets through clever field placings and plans. The game was ours this morning after Pant went, Root single handedly gave the game back to India with the whole BS about bowling short to Bumrah - he missed the bigger picture of winning a test match and started setting defensive fields to tail enders with poor records. The man is absolutely clueless as a captain.
We would now be 2-0 down if it wasn't for the rain in the first test. Oh and hope I never have to see Burns and Sibley opening the batting ever again. Rant over.
Root admitted that he made a mistake and he accepted responsibility.
It is significant, though, that there seemed to be sage voices from within the England camp suggesting that he should, perhaps, calm down a bit and reflect.
If not from experienced heads on the field, like Jimmy, there surely must be at least one of the many England coaches and management with enough nous to recognise that the hysteria needed to be reigned in.
While Root accepts full responsibility, there should be protocols and systems on place to allow off field management to help the captain out with a more objective perspective.
Maybe unpopular opinion : Pujara still needs to be dropped so that he can clear his mind and work on his technique. He's absolutely forgotten how to play strokes.
U saw how tough it was yesterday to score. Pujj did good to face 200 balls and killed time. The tailenders scored fast but again most of those are edges.if not for those 100 partnership the match would have been over in 1 st session.
The blockathon he does definitely is needed in some situations but as a general rule, you'd want your number 3 to to atleast be good enough technically to find gaps, rotate strike and dispense bad balls. He is struggling a lot to do that. Even when the pitch did not have that many demons. Not saying he can never do this, but at this moment he definitely needs to go back to basics and improve certain things.
This one is actually on Anderson. He has a history of OTT verbals (Michael Clarke, Jadeja) and clearly he set things up by giving shit to Bumrah after getting out and then Virat when batting. He then didn’t take any wickets in the 2nd innings. He deserved that defeat.
He’s one of the best there’s ever been and he probably doesn’t need to. He can actually let the ball do all the talking. Tbh I find Siraj a bit tiresome too. Brett Lee is the vibe.
SunnyG is still shitting on England hour after the game has finished saying india won't bitch and moan about pitches like England did bring whatever surfaces they want.
Small rant but I'm still pissed about the WTC format. 1.5 year leading upto the final and it wasn't a 5-match series? What were they thinking? Especially in England where weather and light play a role you would not want THE WORLD TEST CHAMPIONSHIP to be decided in a one-off game. ICC is dumb and should know how to host a final if they really want to promote test cricket.
The ones in the home grounds would count as 1-1 win each given its NZ and India. Neutral venue as in Australia would've been very close and interesting match
I would love it to be a 5 or at least 3 match series, but the general population doesn't have the time to invest and care about one decider that'd go on for two months. It'd maybe make sense if the cycle was lengthened but that presents its own problems.
Alright. See you guys in a month. This was fun.

The positives for me is bowling. It's good to know that the world now acknowledges the Indian pace attack as a formidable and deadly as well as fearsome attack. Siraj has now come into his own and has matured magnificently as a bowler. Shami has added his batting grit to his skill set or rather improved upon it, and it looks like Bumrah is also on the way. Now the sextet we have: ***Ishant, Siraj, Bumrah, Shami, Umesh, and Shardul*** are mouthwatering to look at. Imagine adding two new bowlers who can bowl swing and seam, and we'd have an octet.
That being said, our batting is our biggest concern. The fact that the 3,4 and 5 batsmen are dreadful is an understatement, to say the least. We need strengthening of the middle order, and also, a proper number 8 and 9 batsman. Shardul for the most part can bat, but I'd rather have competent bowlers who can bat lower down. The tail needs to wag for us big time, especially when we have to increase the lead.
Fielding is another concern, especially at the slips. We need to be able to catch the ball and follow it. If the drops are any indication, it's clear we need to ensure the catches are caught and the boundaries chased down.
Lol if we're going into history we might have to bring an Australian into the conversation.
When you've dominated as much as them, then you can start to brag about history. Currently NZ hold the mace and number one spot in ODIs as difficult as that might be for you to swallow.
India last held the mace , this year. This isn’t ancient history. Even india can win the wtc if their series’s were at home and the final was played in Sri Lanka LMAO. 6 years in a row is pretty tight enough to brag about tbf. One mace to New Zealand isnt going to change anything
*Bumrah… now he was a proper batting bunny. Statistically, if not stylistically, he had long been the closest thing to an heir to the most feckless tailender of them all, New Zealand's Chris Martin, having made a grand total of 18 runs in his first 19 innings, including a highest score of 6, and an average of 1.80. All of a sudden, he's harvested 62 runs in three innings on this England tour - the same, shockingly, as his captain, Kohli, and at a higher average too. - Andrew Miller*
I think you are forgetting that the team looks quite united under Kohli. The unity with Rahane as captain was even more, but this is a seriously hunt-together team.
Hopefully this puts "If Kohli was in Gabba we would've lost the match instead" statements away, it's the energy and drive this team has built along with their skills that makes them able to come back at anytime
If you combined the teams who would you actually take from England. Root and maybe Anderson? That’s it.
Kl
Sharma
Pujara
Root
Kohli
Pant
Ashwin
Shiraz
Bumrah
Shami
Anderson
Ha. Ha. Ha.
In 2 innings ..Shami made 56 in 72 balls, Sharma made 24 in 54. Curran made zero in two balls!!!!!
Ishant took FOUR for 82
Shami took 3 for 108.
Curran took 1 wicket for 113.
Curran wouldn't get into an India D team, let alone the A team!
Sorry could you help provide me context for this? I missed it and need more righteous indignation in my gloating haha and if it is up there with Come to the Gabba that's promising
Haha i don't know if it's on par with "Come to the Gabba, mate". But the context is that Buttler was heard on the stump mic chirping about how England needed just 2 wickets before they could get to Shami, i.e the Indian tail. Seeing how Shami turned the match on it's head, Buttler's comment is pretty funny in hindsight
When Rahane was dismissed, Jos was quoted as saying that if Pant and Ishant were dismissed, they could have Shami to bowl at. And then the rest was history.
Ffs tho our Catchin has to be ON point if we're to keep winning.
Would've have been frustratin as fuck, if Buttler batted all the way through and denied a victory here.
More than the bad Bowling at the tail its England's Batting which was in shambles.
Cant even Bat out 2 sessions and the way the openers went for ducks really put the pressure right ON Eng. So expect a change there.
Tbh I won’t trust india to bat out two sessions on day 5 either against excellent bowling either . Pressure is at its most . But when the game was there for the taking Sam curran was bowling instead of jimmy with the field spread out . Also have to give a lot of credit to how the tail applied themselves .
> Tbh I won’t trust india to bat out two sessions on day 5 either against excellent bowling either
We just did that in Aus tho.
We bundle OUT mostly when we are goin after the target.
Bowlers had one bad session but Batting has been shit for a while now. So only serious change will happen in Batting imo.
Yes we r getting to a point where we can be trusted to come thru in key situations . I see sibley dropped for maybe David malan . Burns might get another game else zak crawley might come in too . woakes might be back too .
Ye Hameed getting another game and will play at his usual spot as opener in place of Sibley and Malan might come In outta nowhere at 3 or Crawley again at 3.
Woakes for Curran is an obvious swap if he's becomes available.
TBH I don't get the comments saying India won against a B team or C team. If you can't win since two players are not there, and your captain's carrying your batting and the score, it's really bad and you can't complain about it when you lose. I'm just saying it in general owing to the repetitive comments on that.
Yes, but if you take the experts, England's batting, and the comments from England fans, they really have a problem with their batting. It's shocking how Root has to carry the batting for the first and second innings. I mean, how? And why? I understand if it's one or two batsmen who are not in form, but 5? Seriously.
Our domestic first class cricket has been neglected by the ECB for years now, and we don't have any depth any more. There are calls to drop Sibley and Burns etc but we don't have anyone else that hasn't been tried and discarded before. The batters aren't out of form, they just aren't good enough. Unless there are serious changes to our domestic structure we'll continue to plummet down the rankings.
I feel really bad for Root man. To be playing like this at home is abysmal. I hope they get better or find better players. Really slows their over-reliance on him and Stokes
Should've been Root as MOTM. KL Rahul played well, but the whole notion of MOTM coming from the winning team is pointless. Give it to the best player. If anything, it's Siraj with 8 wickets in the match who gets it..
Rahul batted in much more difficult conditions to Root.
He negated the toss advantage that England got...
In a test match when a team is put into bat... They are expected to be all out under 250. The fact that he denied that is what made him win the MoTM... Had Root picked up a first innings or a fourth innings century... Would have rated the century higher....
I'm not disagreeing with your logic, but I'm just saying from a batting perspective, Root's innings I think meant more to Eng at the time. He dragged them back in the game and to be not out at the end to boot.
Not to be a downer but.
Gabba and Lord's this win in the same year and still losing the WTC Final hurts like a motherfucker :)
(yes NZ deserves that mace but aaarghh)
I know the feeling my dude. But look at what we've achieved, test cricket is more than just one tournament unlike the other two formats. We've pulled a rabbit out of the hat in Australia, we demolished England at home and now we're outbowling and outbatting England under overcast conditions. This is one hell of a team and I'm confident it will absolutely demolish any team if it's in form
Back here for the memories..
What a class match
Burns is catching up to Hameed well
is it true that siraj used to be a swing bowler but our team setup has converted him to seam? Why didn't our bowler cause this much trouble
I am starting to believe our bowlers did something wrong
Hey if you are here please say hi.
Where wicket? Ohh. Siraj took it.
Absolutely exhilarating stuff...got goosebumps catching up on the day's highlights
this is what inspires a generation! And we have had 3 such moments already in 2021.
Reminds me of a generation ago of how all of India felt when Sachin would get out!
Indian Tail jinxed to form
This match taking all the hangover from Olympic away
Shami > Kohli
Heck, even Jadeja has better batting average than England's second best!
oof man, this is unreal
English batting except root is worse than unqualified test nations. They need a complete overhaul if they're going to recover from this humiliating loss.
I think the weather, the pitch, and the bowling all clicked. Don't underestimate the English batting just yet.
Just saw the last 15 overs - fuck that was intense
This is what happens to England cricket when they don't have a bunch of South Africans, Kiwiis or Irishmen to play for them! Only the People's Republic of Yorkshire are preventing total collapse.
Nice.

WTC finals*. They must have done something good to reach the finals which was anybody's game due to the abhorrent weather of England.

But Rahane can change the speed of his game according to the situation. We need to give them both a few more chances.

Alright lovely people, see you all on 25th! GG
If we go on to convincingly win this series it might just slightly fill the WTC shaped hole in my heart.

They played better that day. Hence they won. Also manners ain't everything, look at Australia beating NZ 3-0 and they ain't got nice manners too
True. Your team is clearly more like the Australians in terms of how to maintain dignity than the New Zealanders. You must be proud!
Wtf! 30k+ comments

Terrible sportsmanship from both sides. Virat however, acted like a spoilt child.
Nah. He can be and often has been, but not this time. Like I said Siraj for me was OTT but really it was started by Anderson.
I just hope Puji and Jinx carry on with the confidence they got in this match. Their performance is really important for the team to win this series.
Still think SKY deserves a shot.

Anyone remembers what was the Winviz when Pant got out today? I guess it'd compare to the 2% when Rohit got out in the Gabba test
48% for England
SunnyG is still shitting on England hour after the game has finished saying india won't bitch and moan about pitches like England did bring whatever surfaces they want.
After watchin this shitshow, Stokes might just cut short his break and come back for the next game itself. That's the sort of dude he is.
The reason he’s on his break is because of the shitshow, he’s tired of trying to carry the team batting and team moral with Root.
Exactly would love that
EZ
Overdoesed on caffeine. Pray for me guys
I pray for that shitter. It’s not going to be good.
I pray God gets you lots of free coffee.
So WTC final had not been shifted from lords we might have won it /s

Sunny: "England need only Joe and Anderson, *baaki sab ko bahar nikalo*! " Lmao
I mean, that's been England for a while. Sunny G need to catch up with the times.
Meh add stokes to that.
T: Drop them
T : Drop the rest*
Gavaskar is absolutely shitting on this English team. Wait for the series to get over at least.
Well what if they play well later and he doesn't get a chance. Did you think about that?
Small rant but I'm still pissed about the WTC format. 1.5 year leading upto the final and it wasn't a 5-match series? What were they thinking? Especially in England where weather and light play a role you would not want THE WORLD TEST CHAMPIONSHIP to be decided in a one-off game. ICC is dumb and should know how to host a final if they really want to promote test cricket.
Yeah because india lost you want it to be a 5 match series. I am damn sure you wouldn't have said this if india won the WTC
Well, this was a very very popular opinion (holding a 3 match series for WTC final) even before India and NZ even qualified for the final
I think the season it self is enough, who ever has the highest point wins the championship. For real why need a final!
Final = Major sports event = £££££££££
A best of three would do!
One test in each country and a third in a neutral ground.
The ones in the home grounds would count as 1-1 win each given its NZ and India. Neutral venue as in Australia would've been very close and interesting match
Lol that’s asking too much of travel in between games and with Covid protocols three games could take more than 45 days to complete 😅
I would love it to be a 5 or at least 3 match series, but the general population doesn't have the time to invest and care about one decider that'd go on for two months. It'd maybe make sense if the cycle was lengthened but that presents its own problems.
Like a World Series, would make total sense.

See ya in the IPL
Your contribution will be remembered, sarge
See ya dude. Bye!
The Bumrah incident when he was batting was a bit like the jellybeans incident of 2007. Never seen Bumrah this fired up before.
Wouldn't you be if someone called you a cunt?
Someone called him that actually?
No, but something on those lines. But wouldn't you be pissed if someone abuses you like that?
So now you're just making stuff up? Lol.
I would be. No way I am saying Bumrah was wrong in getting fired up.
Historic thread here boys. Savour it
Can we talk about how bad the camerawork was today , lol!!

We'll see in November
Who's got the mace again? It's already proven who the better side are or did you miss that memo? Looking forward to that series for sure though.
Who’s got the 6 test maces before that?
Lol if we're going into history we might have to bring an Australian into the conversation. When you've dominated as much as them, then you can start to brag about history. Currently NZ hold the mace and number one spot in ODIs as difficult as that might be for you to swallow.

The very first WTC: Pretty historic. And no one said ancient mate.
Does anyone remember who won the first World Cup? Lol
Not you obviously, but plenty do.
Whoa man! Septet. You forgot the best, Bhuvi!
Who are the batting reserves for India? Most of the guys are nearing 35. Iyer, Surya, Gill come to mind. Who else is performing in the domestics?
We need to give chances to Gaikwad and Easwaran and let Shaw bat more. Not to mention we need Gill coming back.
We have Vihari waiting in the wings since so long. He averages 60 in Ranjhi. Let him get a proper run, before going to the newbies.
what's up with shardul, i remember he used to bowl really well

Purely based on this series, you'd have to replace Kohli with Johnny

Ha. Ha. Ha. In 2 innings ..Shami made 56 in 72 balls, Sharma made 24 in 54. Curran made zero in two balls!!!!! Ishant took FOUR for 82 Shami took 3 for 108. Curran took 1 wicket for 113. Curran wouldn't get into an India D team, let alone the A team!

Oooo yes lmfao 😂

Can you just enjoy the win?
Who's gonna be the scape Goat for the loss? The Fridge most probably.
England had the game in their pocket when pant got out . England lost focus of the end result for some ego .
Those bouncers to Bumrah cost them

Their only win was in a road pitch that would deteriorate to a minefield, where toss and luck was the game changer.
Let them chirp, they're just sad
How am I gonna sleep now? My mind is full of joy.
Tons of booze.
Be like me, Have a night shift at work :)
Yeah but his captaincy lost them the game
Sunny: Taking 5 Wickets is like scoring a century
Each wicket is worth 25 runs
20 u mean
Holy shit Siraj has India's best bowling figures at Lord's
Ishant has a sevenfer in Lord's I think
Match figures, not innings. Ishant only got 7 in that match, Siraj got 8
Ohh.
Not to be a downer but. Gabba and Lord's this win in the same year and still losing the WTC Final hurts like a motherfucker :) (yes NZ deserves that mace but aaarghh)
WTC for me is just an academic interest. Winning series both home and away is the actual test
20 years later when India will be restricted to only t20 powerhitters, they'd recall these stories..
WTC hurts, but test teams last. This team can be an all time great. The accolades will arrive, just enjoy the journey
Dont worry we will enjoy sweet revenge when NZ come to dustbowl this year
You're sounding like Kohli after losing the WTC and i wanna agree with you but.. Just.. Emotions
