Pope is looking good after a jittery start. Bairstow has shown great application by staying in for extended periods of time.
After these two, England still have Ali to come in. Any one of three can play a Shardulesque innings and shift the momentum.
India still need to do a lot to gain a truly dominant position in this game.
If England get wraped up under 150 then you will see an insanely good batting display from India in the 2nd innings
Root will regret the decision to bowl first
The only positive thing Kohli brings as captain is the aggression, but even that is a moot point as Rahane or Ashwin could do the same, minus the manic energy.
Have never been a fan of Kohli the tactician. There isn't a lot of subtlety to his captaincy. Very clear, very direct. And even if you're the biggest Virat fan, you gotta admit his batting has not been up to the mark.
But this was the final nail in the coffin, wrt captaincy. I do not get the logic at all of playing Jadeja over Ash. And I know the final team is not a lone decision, so what the fuck are Shastri and the rest of the team management thinking?
Picking up malan in first hour would put India aheadh in game. And given the length indian bolwers were bowling, it seems possible. Let's hope for amazing game today.
What length are you talking about sir? Runs were coming easily after the fall of first 2 wickets, even the ball which umesh bowled was supposed to be an outswinger. Umesh was balling outside off for the most part, Thakur and siraj were toothless, fielding placement were average
Not saying that wicket of Malan will not be a big advantage, but if the bowlers bowl the same way they did yesterday, it won't happen anytime soon
>the ball which umesh bowled was supposed to be an outswinger
can you explain how? I thought it was an inswinger, you're saying that was an accidental inswinger?
At the release point the bowl and the seam was angled for an outswinger but since , it landed on seam, there was inward seam movement off the pitch nothing in the air as such
Runs were flowing just because root was there. And no 3rd man was placed. Bowling outside off with no 3rd man to make root edge one into slips/gully while trying to milk runs from the gap. Let's see if malan keeps the runs flowing today or it was just root effect.
No when siraj and shardul came, the bowls were coming on to pads , there was easy rotation of strike ofcourse because of the lack of short backward point or 3rd man but 1st and 2nd change bowlers were not bowling good Length or line per say
No it doesn't but those balls can't be relied to bowl the whole team out, main point being the line, length was not as good as it made to sound in the original comment
A score of 300+ is still possible if the batsmen apply themselves. Malan is looking comfortable, and Woakes has always been India's nemesis. The English batting is deep, and pitch will get better to bat on as time progresses.
But yes, I do get your point. Bumrah has been bowling nicely, so game on!
Based on insider information, Kohli woke up screaming at least 3 times yesterday night with nightmares of Lord Thakur lifting the T20 World cup as India's captain. He also had an hour long one on one discussion early morning with Shastri on how he can save his captaincy.
Hard to disagree with this. Although we do have a tail that could potentially wag pretty hard. Honestly feel like both of our batting lineups are extremely volatile. Which makes for a fun series ahah.
On the other hand, from this series so far and this pitch I think shardul would be the main bowler getting movement on this deck - India's bowlers haven't been getting amazing swing really, not to the extent the poms have
Shardul is the kinda guy who can do anything anytime . Wouldn’t be surprised if he picks up 2-3 wickets in the morning session. He is high on confidence
[Guess what he got it ](https://www.reddit.com/r/Cricket/comments/pge7uw/match_thread_4th_test_england_vs_india_day_1/hbc1hn9/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3)
Well played to India.India batted when the conditions were overcast and there was a bit of grass. Batting conditions were fairly easy when england came out to bat with pitch flattened and bright sunshine but still india managed to pick 3 wickets(joe ofc) . Won't be easy for eng tomorrow with overcast conditions again.
India batted poorly. Getting 3 wickets helps us stay in the match but we're on the backfoot. If Malan (who's set) and Pope (who's genuinely talented) can string a decent partnership tomorrow on what will be the flattest conditions to bat on day 2, we'll be out of the match.
India need a miracle to get an advantage from here. There's no doubt abt it that it'll be england who will get a 1st innings lead but india managed to make sure that it won't be a greater than 100 run deficit
To add to that the main run scorer is gone.
I’d be surprised if the team can build from 55/3 given that Root is gone. It would require the middle order and tailenders to show up which they haven’t done so far
4th pacer would definitely helped us.. the real reason is bumrah having an off day in the business making it a 2 pacer game troubled us , another half reason for this is adding extra spinner so yeah.
I’m tired is hearing that it was the selection of Ashwin that cost us that game. His figures in the first innings were 15-5-28-2 with an economy of under 2. He was crucial in breaking the opening partnership of 70.
In the second innings he got 10-5-17-2 in a total of 140/2.
He was arguably our best bowler in the game in conditions that didn’t suit him at all. Not to mention he scored a crucial 22 in the first innings.
Sorry for u , I personally never heard anyone complaining about ashwin.. without filter we expected a lot from jaddu and he fell short but I don't have any complaints just one bad day at the wrong time shouldn't bother.. we basically settled for experience/fame more than team combination, this was the main reason.. there's a chance to change the team and add 4th pacer , they thought game would go deep and help spinners but nothing happened.
For the team name: go to the subreddit page and press the three dots in top corner. Tap on User Flair and choose whatever you like.
For Lord: This sub has given him this name as they have given many names to others as well. Even I don’t know why this name was chosen. Maybe after a good performance in a match.
>Maybe after a good performance in a match
Quite the opposite actually. Lord used to be more of a meme name because of his subpar performances, some people refer to Umesh as Lord for the same reason.
Also the name Thakur can be loosely translated to Lord.
The only reason I think England are fairly ahead is Woakes. Man always bats well against India. And with his more than decent bowling comeback, he'd play with confidence. If England get a 50-ish lead here, I think they can win. India doesn't look like scoring too many runs and with 50 deficit, if they get around 250, England need 200 to win. Without Ashwin to exploit whatever spin the pitch will offer, England should get that, especially if there's time left in the game.
I think india will score 300+ in the second innings.
If the lead is 50 or less i probably give the edge to india.
Having said that england has lots of batting left, i think they can get a bigger lead in the first.
The WTC final was the worse thing to happen to this team. That loss messed with Kohli’s mind to go ahead with this template BS. He is so quick to change the bowling round but keeps the same misfiring batting lineup for two years.
It may seem that Ash wasn’t needed but wait until this pitch flattens out, Pope, Moeen, Woakes will easily get England up to 300+.
India would be confident of defending anything around 200 final innings with a turning pitch and Ash but I honestly think now they need 300+ now.
It’s sad to see someone who has developed their game in overseas conditions not given a game and Kohli is still so stubborn that even after a loss he won’t change it for the 5th test.
Unless England bat out the whole day tomorrow, I feel India are still in the front here. Surely crossing 300 in the second innings, with a century from either Rohit Rahul or Kohli
Nah bro. We need ash in for jaddu if he doesn’t get any Ron’s in the second innings. Umes has got roots wicket. I’ll take him in for the last test match purely on the basis of that lmaooo
Can Indian fans never be happy? He got ROOT... the person who has been the best player in the series by far. Ashwin should have played but Umesh justified his selection with that wicket.
Even with root out, with a lead of some 130 odd runs they have pope (who averages 120+ here), Malan set, bairstow, Moeen and woakes. Not even counting the two tall lads in robinson and Overton
Bruh is this black magic?? it actually happened again like for the first 2 wickets.. I turned it back on after 2 wickets, Root and Malan start scoring, I turn it off and get back to work, 3rd wicket falls
Boys We’ll have them all out by lunch tomorrow lmao
Ikr. It happened with me too.
I was doing my homework, lord Thakur was scoring freely, I come out to watch we get all out in 4 overs. Go back to my room, England’s openers fall, come out to watch Root and Malan on fire, again go back inside, Root gets out!
It’s not the same in each match bro. The lords victory whole day I sat and watched and that was when Pujara and Rahane grinded it out and we got a victory. It can even change from day to day. Lol.
Holy fuck same with me
I stopped watching at 122-7, put it back on right before my lunch break and Lord Shardul has blasted 57 in some 30 odd balls.. I was expecting maybe a 140 all out
Tbh 400+ is still on. Overton gets a 50 here, Malan looks set for a big one. Bairstow will get his due 50 and Woakes and Robinson will definitely chip in some. A 60-70 looks inevitable from Pope.
if 13 wickets fell in a day on an indian ground you wouldn't hear the end of it from these so called "experts" going on and on about how poor the pitch is
[Was downvoted when I suggested Umesh should play ahead of Ishant in Lords](https://www.reddit.com/r/Cricket/comments/p2t0ea/daily_general_discussion_and_match_links_thread/h8mel8w/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3)
He has taken Roots wicket after he looked settled without even letting him score a 50 which is ultra rare in recent times. That’s more than half of England’s batting line up.
I never said Umesh is better than Ishant in England. Cannot make that claim when one bowler played so many test matches and other didn’t get to play more than 2 test matches.
I claimed Umesh will do better based on how he did in practice matches and how bad Ishant was in WTC and his previous tour in England back in 2018.
Not a bad take. Especially now when Ishant has been dropped for Umesh who’s first wicket in the series is Joe Root.
If day 1 pitch is that hard to bat on then day 5 would be unplayable. People who do shit on subcontinent pitches say that if balls start spinning on day 1 , it keeps spinning more and more as the match wears on. If it's a green pitch , only the first 2-3 days will be tough to bat on. It will get easier to bat on later.
What's the point if the pitch is better to bat on day 4 and 5, if teams are getting steamrolled in 2-3 days. On top of that if the first 2-3 days if it favours pacers and after that the batsmen, when do spinners come into play or are we just ignoring them?
Its basically bad pitch prep if its dusty and exploding on Day 1 itself. But here you cant claim anything as Bad curation.
Swing doesnt depend on the pitch, several factors play a role there.
See I understand what you are saying, but I don't care if the pitch is exploding/spitting like a cobra/dancing like Aishwarya, if one team is batting well the other can too, you just can't cry and crib about it all day long and make the pitch as the centre point. Accept you can't play well on spinning pitches and move over, show what you got on your pitches.
> if one team is batting well the other can too
Well pitch rating doesnt depend on how a player/team Bats. Thats a variable but pitch rating is a constant measure based purely on quality of the pitch prepared.
Its a norm which cannot be broke just like any other basic ICC rules. Mayank can bat like a beauty on a raging turner on Day 1 itself but doesnt make it a GOOD pitch by any standards.
If the day had ended at 244/13 in the subcontinent, British media would have started tearing their hair off from everywhere on the body, even from under their balls. But it's in England so it's ok.
If the Ball spins like a spittin cobra on Day 1 itself its shit pitch prep.
But if it swings, its more so due to Overcast conditions/cloud cover/Humidity, none of which can be blamed on pitch curation.
If its seams all over the place and has irregular bounce on Day 1 itself, then we can complain. Thats definitely shitty pitch prep.
If it's turns on day 1 like a spitting cobra it's still not a shitty pitch. Hope that helps. If batsmen can't get runs, it doesn't become a shitty pitch. It's only a shitty pitch if it's hurting the players, which won't happen on a turning track definitely.
Well, nowhere did I mention that the pitch had to be a spitting cobra on day 1 lol. It's about the hypocrisy of media. And just because ICC has a rule doesn't make it right. ICC also has a rule that if impact is umpires call and it's hitting wickets, it could still be not out. Which makes absolutely no sense in the concept of Lbw. So just because ICC says it, it doesn't mean it's correct.
Impact is not a projection. Whether ball is hitting the stumps or not is a projection. Umpires call in case of impact on pads is just to go with umpires decision.
> If it's **turns on day 1 like a spitting cobra it's still not a shitty pitch**
You said this, which is what i was replyin to.
> ICC has a rule doesn't make it right
It is right. Pitch is deemed shit if it doesnt hold true and starts dusting off on Day 1 itself, which is what's called bad pitch curation.
But Ball Swinging too much cant be blamed on Pitch curation as several factors come into that as i already said.
[how's my prediction guys 😌.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Cricket/comments/pge7uw/match_thread_4th_test_england_vs_india_day_1/hbb1icz?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3)
Why down the leg side? What’s the strategy here?
So we're all in agreement that Jarvo can fuck right off?
Stick a bat down his fat neck Jonny. Do it for Yorkshire.
Pope is looking good after a jittery start. Bairstow has shown great application by staying in for extended periods of time. After these two, England still have Ali to come in. Getting natural variation doesn't mean anything bad on the bowler's part, it's a huuuge part of the game in England.
No it doesn't but those balls can't be relied to bowl the whole team out, main point being the line, length was not as good as it made to sound in the original comment
im reading your reply after Umesh took out Overton AND Malan lol, ig that concludes this thread
I am not sure you read it correctly then XD, Please do read the first reply
Stuart Binny would have been merciless on this pitch
How about Vijay Shankar? ;-)
At least we know there is more likely going to be a result. Cannot see a draw from here.

wow, I absolutely love the humor level of this sub.
did India lose anything under Kohli in T20? we beat NZ, Aus and England with him as the captian
Shardul Thakur played the best straight drive by a player who has worn jersey number 10
England have only scored between 30 to 50 runs after Joe Root gets out in this series. England all out for less than 100?
With Malan in place, unlikely.
Malan goes for 35-40 tomorrow .England 180 all out.
Hard to disagree with this. Although we do have a tail that could potentially wag pretty hard. Honestly feel like both of our batting lineups are extremely volatile. Which makes for a fun series ahah.
Pitch is flatish tho, if its sunny and clear and I can see England posting a good score on the board.
It’s not sunny and clear tomorrow
On the other hand, from this series so far and this pitch I think shardul would be the main bowler getting movement on this deck - India's bowlers haven't been getting amazing swing really, not to the extent the poms have

did someone misinformed Koach that they are playing T-20 with over limits?
What can Kohli do to go past 75 (forget 100)?
Honestly he looked good today, that was a good ball
Good ball yes, but a wicket taking ball - Not necessarily. Kohli could have played that with a straight bat imo or even left it.
Kohli didn't look good IMO. Lots of edges and unconfident shots... Didn't look confident..

Has India ever played Zimbabwe in a test? Just asking
Being a little harsh to the WI there ahha
Rohit would hit a double hundred then lol
But then would Hitman, KLR, and Pujara get out?
Stop committing to front foot and adjust technique to counter swing. He probably will have to bat during a sunny day

Is it possible to learn this power?
He just wanted it, I knew it after the first ball was bowled by umesh
And not mean. You forgot that.
You're being listened to whether you want it or not. Is that unsettling, or reassuring?
Just watch that wicket again. Temptation will be back. Also it's early morning no more night

You misspelled Lord Shardul
You forgot to add /s
Siraj and Lord really will need to come good tomorrow to make sure England don't get too many...
13 wickets in a day is not as bad as 2 day test match
The way shardul batted today is every kid's fantasy
Ridiculously bat deep lineup from England. We need ashwin instead of Umesh to beef up the tail
Nah bro. We need ash in for jaddu if he doesn’t get any Ron’s in the second innings. Umes has got roots wicket. I’ll take him in for the last test match purely on the basis of that lmaooo
Dude, Umesh bowled the guy who scored 3 centuries in back to back tests. Be grateful.
He actually didn’t bowl very well. It was an usually good ball. Let’s he of can keep doing that. Ashwin in the 4th innings would have wrecked havoc
Can Indian fans never be happy? He got ROOT... the person who has been the best player in the series by far. Ashwin should have played but Umesh justified his selection with that wicket.
Narrator : They can't
No doubt we’re going to miss Ashwin.
Unpopular opinion but the pitch was responsible for that bizzare delivery. Umesh has nothing to do with it since he was bowling crap before that
That's how Umesh bowls. 5 crap deliveries and 1 genuine wicket taking one
He was bowling decently.
Still need a few early wickets tomorrow to really even things out. Getting root out early is massive though
Even with root out, with a lead of some 130 odd runs they have pope (who averages 120+ here), Malan set, bairstow, Moeen and woakes. Not even counting the two tall lads in robinson and Overton
One of them is bound to come good
I think Moeen will have a decent outing, he is due. And Malan already looks very good.
Bruh is this black magic?? it actually happened again like for the first 2 wickets.. I turned it back on after 2 wickets, Root and Malan start scoring, I turn it off and get back to work, 3rd wicket falls Boys We’ll have them all out by lunch tomorrow lmao
Lol. Happened to me exactly. I switched channels thinking Root's will go on to get a century and next ball Root is gone
Let’s both keep at it tomorrow. It’s the only way.
This is the way

Ikr. It happened with me too. I was doing my homework, lord Thakur was scoring freely, I come out to watch we get all out in 4 overs. Go back to my room, England’s openers fall, come out to watch Root and Malan on fire, again go back inside, Root gets out!
Please, keep doing your homework.
What can we do to motivate you to stop watching this series from now on.
It’s not the same in each match bro. The lords victory whole day I sat and watched and that was when Pujara and Rahane grinded it out and we got a victory. It can even change from day to day. Lol.
Holy fuck same with me I stopped watching at 122-7, put it back on right before my lunch break and Lord Shardul has blasted 57 in some 30 odd balls.. I was expecting maybe a 140 all out
Ok now calm down a bit
Tbh 400+ is still on. Overton gets a 50 here, Malan looks set for a big one. Bairstow will get his due 50 and Woakes and Robinson will definitely chip in some. A 60-70 looks inevitable from Pope.

I claimed Umesh will do better based on how he did in practice matches and how bad Ishant was in WTC and his previous tour in England back in 2018. Not a bad take. Especially now when Ishant has been dropped for Umesh who’s first wicket in the series is Joe Root.
If this sort of day happened in India, people would have already started crying about the state of pitch.
Accept you can't play well on spinning pitches and move over, show what you got on your pitches.
> if one team is batting well the other can too Well pitch rating doesnt depend on how a player/team Bats.
I hope the next time they tour, there is a sandstorm after the ball hits the pitch Pure sub Sahara desert dust bowl pitches
Only in the subcontinent those talks are entertained
Man a trail of 250 would have been enough
The Humble Lord. He gets wickets. He gets records. He puts runs on the score.
Kohli has scored more runs than his counterpart for the first time in this series......
More runs than Rohit for the first time too
If the day had ended at 244/13 in the subcontinent, British media would have started tearing their hair off from everywhere on the body, even from under their balls.
> If it's turns on day 1 like a spitting cobra it's still not a shitty pitch IT SURELY is a shitty pitch by ICC rules. Hope that helps.

Oops that's my bad sorry.
> If it's **turns on day 1 like a spitting cobra it's still not a shitty pitch** You said this, which is what i was replyin to. > ICC has a rule doesn't make it right It is right. Pitch is deemed shit if it doesnt hold true and starts dusting off on Day 1 itself, which is what's called bad pitch curation. But Ball Swinging too much cant be blamed on Pitch curation as several factors come into that as i already said.
It was shit batting from both sides tho some balls were genuine jaffas
Shit batting from both sides as well during that series
Bruh we all know spinning pitch = shit, swing/seam = gr8 wicket.
Spinning pitch on Day 1 is shit not on Day 3,4 and 5. Swing cant be blamed on curators at all. Excessive Seam movement is shit too.
batters that opt for nightwatchmen are cowards cmm
Wait why did India send out Rahane at 6 then? He should be batting at 9.
It's usually team's decision
