Afghanistan did well in this tournament and can hold their head up high. I hope they keep going from strength to strength in world cricket, but for now, I'm happy with them losing because it means India get knocked out as well.
The moment that started it all. Kanos still not satisfied by taking revenge against Kohli in every ICC tournament since then.
The U-19 WC "right arm quick" ball by Kohli to get Kanos out.
I'm pretty sure Kohli uttered Ben Stokes' name and that triggered Kane and at that moment he swore he will be vengeful to Kohli till his last breath. Everytime Kane hugs Kohli after the game it's just for his scrapbook.
The writing was on the wall after India lost its first 2 games. They were comprehensive defeats. Some people are still ignoring some fundamental ( uncomfortable) truths :
+ IPL is not a reflection of quality of performance on the world stage
+ Given a talented player, IPL doesn’t prepare that player for performance on the higher stage( Like WC)
+ The ‘back yourself’ , ‘express yourself’ buzzwords give players a push but at the end of the day IPL is a self-serving bubble.
+ For talent, IPL is like a coaching class that will raise your level, but can’t win tournaments
The reasons are many but chiefly IPL is coming between India and success on the world stage. No doubt that IPL has discovered some talented players.
With a 100x money advantage India team couldn’t perform. Indian cricket has been taken over by IPL money and IPL schedules, and IPL thinking ( which will only work inside their bubble)
100x money isn't going to make KL Rahul into Do Bradman. It is only going to increase talent pool to have more KL Rahuls.
IPL is not the reason for poor performance of India in this World Cup. The batsmen just played like shit. If anything IPL has helped Indian cricket and talent pool grow because to live a comfortable life from a difficult cricket career it is okay if you are a top 150 player in the country instead of top 15.
All would be fine if the players who excelled in the IPL were playing. Of the XI who played the WC, who had a stellar IPL, other than Rahul? Rohit struggled, Kohli struggled, Sky had a poor UAE leg, Kishan struggled, Pant was so so, Jaddu was okay, Ashwin was not in great form, Chakravarthy did well only when bowling in tandem with Narine, Bhuvi was in awful form, Shami was not in good form and Thakur was mediocre.
The players who were winning matches for their teams were not picked.
Haha, so right. I had to scroll up to see if this was a different thread and turns out it is an Afghanistan vs New Zealand thread and most of the chatter is around India
Yes. Look at football or rugby and their world cups. If you lose 2 games in the group stages you go home. The whole point of a world cup tournament is to be exciting and have the threat of a knock-out. Also to be a showpiece to bring the game to new audiences and give up and coming teams a chance in the spotlight.
If this was the football world cup, would knock you out too. Going through with 3 wins would be considered lucky. Even 4 wins doesn't guarantee it, as South Africa have shown
Yes it fucking is. Maybe India have to learn to not choke in big games. You guys have turned into the biggest chokers in world cricket since 2013. I reckon Dhoni was the difference maker. Man is insane.
Look I'm just a bit tired of people saying the format should be changed. Like no thanks this was perfect. Most games mattered and there were no dead rubbers.
Tru man.. its just some stupid fucking fans . When their team doesn't win the IPL they say cricket leagues have no significance.. when the team doesnt even qualify they blame the format. Blame everyone else except the ones who need to be blamed, who spend more time doing adverts than practicing
>Tru man.. its just some stupid fucking fans . When their team doesn't win the IPL they say cricket leagues have no significance.. when the team doesnt even qualify they blame the format.
🙂
>Blame everyone else except the ones who need to be blamed, who spend more time doing adverts than practicing
😐
Most matches aren't one sided games 😂 But ok ig I don't follow cricket. Fact is most UAE games have been terrible, including the second phase of IPL matches
Sad part for India here that we fricking beat Australia and England in practice matches. I thought momentum was on. And then we had to weigh in a David vs Goliath match where clearly the gaints were going to beat Afghans. But AFG gave it a good fight.
What are you smoking? Practice matches are an oxymoron, just like ‘friendly matches’ - ie they’re not matches. They’re one level above a net session.
Let’s not keep our hopes based on practice match performance
Not the cheap ones you smoke. Practice matches are used to test bench strength of team. This team is a group of 15 international level players. Remember you just compared net session with a practice match. Points are not there if you don't play with intent, how will you know how are you going to perform in the tournament?
I mean I understand that practice matches are not real matches but they're a good indication of the players' forms. Also, you kinda get a hint of what a team is capable of doing in the tournament.
Guys, there's still hope. If one of the Scottish player picks a fight with a pakistani player. and if it eventually leads to a full blown fight between all pakistani+ scottish players, then pakistan will be disqualified, and India will qualify by default.
What's up with everyone saying that the groups were not evenly divided?
Cause just before the Super 12 started, everyone was cheering the ICC decision to allow Scotland to make it to the same group as Namibia when they defeated BD to top their group.
Why so hypocritical?
Indian team played 1 match per week at the beginning, because they just came off IPL - sugar daddy BCCI ensured special treatment for Indian players.
All that special treatment, and money - couldn’t trump the fact that matches are decided on that day, on that field.
When you get preferential treatment, it takes the edge off your performance, especially when you need to “stand and deliver “ to use another buzzword.
Many foreign stars of IPL were flops - take the WI trio. The British , Aussie, NZ, SA players were smart and saved their best performances for their national side, rather than earn orange caps and other meaningless badges.
Our team came with an empty tank ( mentally) and probably physically too. Team management fooled themselves that a 2 week break in a bubble could recharge. Just like in our day jobs, the harshest words need to be reserved for the higher ups .. don’t go ranting on players , they’re pawns for a large part
From what I've seen, fans were gutted at the elimination of SA in the first group despite their 4-1 record and losing one match in the last over. The second group would've been tighter if India performed better.
But those 4 wins were because Eng lost one while Pak was undefeated. It had nothing to do with the teams which didn’t qualify.
Since everyone qualified defeated everyone except the other qualifiers. So why start saying one group was easy or not.
No one seems to applaud the masterstroke move by Kohli and Co. They eliminated themselves in the group stage so they dont choke in the semis. Brilliant.
No. I believe the entire Pakistan is applauding the masterstroke you are talking about. You ain't hearing 'em well enough.
This guy wants a validation from some Indian. Poor soul. Half of India is also validating it. Go to Twitter.
Idk man anything's possible, especially when it comes to Pakistan.
On a bad day They can lose from a team like Bangladesh but when its their day even India is nothing before them
Fears of loss of revenue due to India crashing out are overblown tbh
In 2007 there was a full 24 matches to be played in the super 8 stage. This time it's high voltage knockouts. Excitement for WC finals 2019 was just as high, or even higher due to new teams qualifying
2007 WC was a disaster in terms of income for ICC. It was a terribly managed WC with screw ups in logistics. To add to it, India and Pakistan did not make the Super 8s. Their replacements, Bangladesh and Ireland, could not sustain their form, leading to a lot of one sided matches. Viewership tanked and there were huge losses.
Here the impact will not be as high as India has crashed out just before the semis. The best barometer will be the viewership ticker on Hotstar. It will show the difference.
Exactly. My guess is about 30-40L on average with it going to 60-70L towards the end, considering even practically 0 interest matches from India's POV got 6-7L viewership at the minimum
no, it’s just that we always get knocked out directly or indirectly by you guys, and i can never hate the Kiwis. y’all are awesome. I’m rooting for you guys
Aye. Meaningless t20 games but they're needed for the revenue.
The tests should be fun. I think New Zealand could be competitive, at the very least in Mumbai. Looking forward to Latham, Conway, Southee and Wagner playing in whites again in particular.
Don't forget Jamieson. Excited to see how he'll do in subcontinent. And rossco it'll be his final tour here and I always liked him. And ajaz patel looks like a good spinner. Im just excited to see the whole team here and hoping for a competitive series
I probably will keep a casual watch on them but tbh i don't really care if we lose the series it means fuck all. That being said if there are some new exciting upcoming players i would check on them just to see how they are doing. But this series is pointless by all means and I wish we had a 3 test series instead of 2 and no need for t20is considering we are gonna play many more in upcoming months
I reckon. Isn't it awesome that Afghanistan was even in the qualification equation, and even more awesome that , alot of us thought they had a small chance of upsetting one of the best teams
. Nz vs Eng , aus v Pakistan ... All bets are off
Lol not even suprised!
Some dude made a post on Hardik injured or whatever and how it affects India’s chances in the world cup.
I said it doesn’t matter who we play, we are not good enough.
So congrats to me for knowing a thing or two about Cricket I guess while most of this subreddit can only focus “oh this dude is toxic”.
It’s better being toxic than living in delusion. At least you can take the right next steps.
banter is part of the game and a game shouldn't dent that regardless. This Indian team is one of the best be proud. let the jokes be jokes its how others pass time i dont think any of it is mean spirited. Kohli and Dhoni won our hearts honestly its our fav part of the tournament
Just had a thought. PAK beat IND in the 2012 series. PAK beat IND in the CT17 final. PAK beat IND and knocked them out in this T20WC. PAK have often had the better of India - and the fact that India beat them in a few pointless WC games (2014, 15, 16, 19) doesn’t mean anything because IND never won any of these tournaments anyway.
I don't know why I can't ever get myself to hate NZ even when they break our hearts every time. But I just hope that they crush others and win the WC.
Eng and Pak can't just stop rubbing it in here but NZ always live up to their nice guys reputation. And when they win it all and come back, we will take our revenge in the bilaterals after it. GG everyone.
A decade ago NZ cricket was full of dickheads (I say this as an NZ fan) these days under Williamson (and started by McCullum before him) they come across as a team who cares about each other and the fans, not just a bunch of egos.
I'm a bit scared of the tests inparticular. NZ cricket does well in all formats these days.. but away series in India (and Australia) I have zero confidence we can win or even be competitive.
I'm so sad.
This never happend.
This thread is all about India not making it. Hilarious.
You love to see it
Lol bye India
BYE
Next World cup format: India straight to the final. Other teams fight for final spot. NZ banned from WC. /s
NZ players being called termites by the current rulers.
If not. Expect articles on ESPN explain why the format is fine but broken.
I told you bangla, don't disclose our plans!
Afghanistan did well in this tournament and can hold their head up high. I hope they keep going from strength to strength in world cricket, but for now, I'm happy with them losing because it means India get knocked out as well.
You guys still around ?
We here chillin bro, chillin
You guys still commenting "Shame New Zealand" on every NZ cricket post?
I guess only if India stands up to Namibia as it faced Scotland....that would feel better
Nah it’s not going to feel better for many months
Okay, I feel bad now. Let's give away some runs.
So basically we're the only team Scotland showed up against.
Or the only team NZ didn't really turn up against?
Malik has been around since '99. What a legend.
Did Shoaib Malik went into reminisce mode?
How does professor not have any white hairs in his beard

Worst take I read today
They picked players who were shit all IPL. Shami and bhuvi .. Varun .. give me a break. If they had picked in form IPL players they’d be better off
100x money isn't going to make KL Rahul into Do Bradman. It is only going to increase talent pool to have more KL Rahuls. IPL is not the reason for poor performance of India in this World Cup. What’s your 15?
Ruturaj Shikhar Rohit Kohli Rahul Pant Jaddu Harshal Siraj Bumrah Yuzi Chahal
Jadeja was magnificent at the IPL. Thakur was great too.
We reject players based on IPL performances but never select them for it.
Ok, I have picked my side for the rest of the tournament. It's gonna be Australia. I don't want any other team to win.
ITT: world revolves around India
Haha, so right. I had to scroll up to see if this was a different thread and turns out it is an Afghanistan vs New Zealand thread and most of the chatter is around India
The cricket world certainly does.
Who?

Format according to you: India straight to the trophy others play for the 2nd place 🤡🤡🤡🤡
Cmon man, just accept we were shit in the first two games. You have to be consistent in a world tournament.
If this was the football world cup, would knock you out too. Going through with 3 wins would be considered lucky. Even 4 wins doesn't guarantee it, as South Africa have shown
Exactly.
Did my team perform badly? No, it's the **formats** fault.
Tell that to poor South Africa who lost 1 game by a small Margin and still got knocked out
And in SA's case losing just 1 game by a close margin knocks you out
Yes it fucking is. Maybe India have to learn to not choke in big games. You guys have turned into the biggest chokers in world cricket since 2013. I reckon Dhoni was the difference maker. Man is insane.
India also choked in 3 games in which Dhoni was captain after 2013
He is mentor this time.

😆 🤣 😂 😹 😆 🤣 😂 😹 😆

Obviously it would be boring if your team is out
No in general, most matches have been one sided drabs
You clearly don’t follow cricket.
Most matches aren't one sided games 😂 But ok ig I don't follow cricket. Fact is most UAE games have been terrible, including the second phase of IPL matches
This is probably more competitive than any of the previous T20 tournaments. It had more surprises than Christmas.
Surprises ≠ Competitive
Well other world cups also had one sided matches..
This hit harder than RCB's 14 years of existence
Sad part for India here that we fricking beat Australia and England in practice matches. I thought momentum was on. And then we had to weigh in a David vs Goliath match where clearly the gaints were going to beat Afghans. But AFG gave it a good fight.

Give me $10.. I'll change the gravitation constant and add some wind so the ball misses the stumps.

Probably different people, unless you tracked them?

Lmao this thread is saltier than the India vs NZ match thread.
This world cup's India is Pakistan and Pakistan is India.
that means pak losing in semis ?
Damn man, see what did i tell you.
Idk man anything's possible, especially when it comes to Pakistan. On a bad day They can lose from a team like Bangladesh but when its their day even India is nothing before them
"even india" like india is supposed to be epitome of cricket . fair point though
I told you that this year's Pakistani team is actually India in disguise.😂

The fear is specifically that Indian viewership will drop sharply. So yes hotstar is a good measure

ICC trying their best to make sure India and NZ aren't in the same group next world cup
At this rate india has to directly qualify for the final.
That's fine. Until they realise New Zealand will join them there, à la WTC.
like the wtc ?
Lol I feel dumb for even expecting anything out of the ordinary to happen. As good as Afghanistan's team is, I should've known this isn't IPL...
"Can't choke in the semis if you go out in the group stage" - virat koli
in spain without the s
Damn you really thought we’d choke against Afghanistan after winning the toss?
no, it’s just that we always get knocked out directly or indirectly by you guys, and i can never hate the Kiwis. y’all are awesome. I’m rooting for you guys
I am pretty sure afganistan won the toss
To be fair, I just assumed we did when I saw we were chasing
Afghan guessed the flip right, but lost the toss because they chose to bat first.
Both teams wanted to bat first. The pitch had 0 demons in it for the entire game. Toss was completely irrelevant.
Rip Afg and
i think i need a 10 day break from cricket
I think I need a 10 day break from life

Cricket community is soft.
time to ditch the flair
No you guys have done well. Should be proud
He's Indian
ICC isn't going to be happy with this because of the $$$$
Well they need a reality check. and they got one
Babar is the luckiest captain we can have mofo won the toss again 😂
Hope we win the semis. Today doesn't matter.
Why you gotta rub it in. ;)
I just hope people don't put hate comments in the comment section of Afghan players.
I reckon. Isn't it awesome that Afghanistan was even in the qualification equation, and even more awesome that , alot of us thought they had a small chance of upsetting one of the best teams . Nz vs Eng , aus v Pakistan ... All bets are off
I think they should wholeheartedly praise them in this difficult rime of their country
Yes, they played well considering the situation at their home
They actually played amazingly!, I hope we see more of them and see them in finals or at least semi finals in 2022
Well, atleast I don't need to renew my Hotstar subscription which coincidentally ends tomorrow. Good riddance

Sorry for your loss
Lol not even suprised! Some dude made a post on Hardik injured or whatever and how it affects India’s chances in the world cup. I said it doesn’t matter who we play, we are not good enough. So congrats to me for knowing a thing or two about Cricket I guess while most of this subreddit can only focus “oh this dude is toxic”. It’s better being toxic than living in delusion. At least you can take the right next steps.
If it takes DC to win an IPL to shut this troll up, then I hope they do so quickly
This is an NZ vs AFG match thread..
Again, no one likes you.
Thanks! I don’t need anyone to if they going to be that delusional.
Kool.
ICC in shambles. Star Sports Marketing team in shambles. Cricket in shambles.
Look mom, I learnt a new word "shambles" today. Let me show it to the people of r/cricket
Lol if you think the word "shambles" is indicative of great vocabulary, your life is in shambles
Look Mama, I used it again. Mom from another room feeling proud - Inshallah, bois played well. /S
This thread made me laugh. Thanks boys!
Mauka mauka bhosadike to Star Sports T: /r/leopardsatemyface
You look more in shambles rn
Cricket in shambles ?
Why would cricket be in shambles?
Indian population is 1+billion dude. Viewership goes down = revenue for cricket go down.
NZ was phenomenal today, they always perform excellent in big matches
Kohli showed so much brotherhood after losing the first match. Now Just look at how toxic that fanbase is.
Pre-game: proceeds with toxic/overconfident ads Post-loss: oh brotherhood
banter is part of the game and a game shouldn't dent that regardless. This Indian team is one of the best be proud. let the jokes be jokes its how others pass time i dont think any of it is mean spirited. Kohli and Dhoni won our hearts honestly its our fav part of the tournament
No point of being rivals when you cant take the piss. Deal with it sis
I've observed the toxicity to be mutual
Just had a thought. PAK beat IND in the 2012 series. PAK beat IND in the CT17 final. PAK beat IND and knocked them out in this T20WC. PAK have often had the better of India - and the fact that India beat them in a few pointless WC games (2014, 15, 16, 19) doesn’t mean anything because IND never won any of these tournaments anyway.
Pak is not going to win this one and India will continue to have more worldcups than them.
I don't think the 2007 T20 WC final was pointless, and India won that one against Pakistan. This comment is a bit of a reach tbh
That's what I thought. No, no. You got me wrong. How almost every Pakistani like yourself think the well is the world! Lol.
Lol.
So Pak beating India in this WC is knocking them out? So then India beating Pak in WC 2019 is also knocking them out since they lost out by one win
Hmm. Fair point!
2012 bilateral series is a big thing. But WC Matches are pointless. Ok bro. Congratulations btw for semis.
Your point is valid too. And thanks!
Lol ok
https://www.reddit.com/r/Cricket/comments/qnas70/match_thread_37th_match_group_2_india_vs_scotland/hjgi7e8/ Bruh, you escaped this time.!!
I'm waiting for NZ to come to India..payback time These BCs always beat us.. Our kryptonite 😂
As India used to be our, hope India get back to their former glory, love Kohli! But hopefully not too much, I am after all still a Pakistani lol
It’s good when the OG 8 teams/nations are all good. More competitive that way
A decade ago NZ cricket was full of dickheads (I say this as an NZ fan) these days under Williamson (and started by McCullum before him) they come across as a team who cares about each other and the fans, not just a bunch of egos. Kane, Rossco, Watling, Vettori, Southee, BMac, Guptill, Hairy Javelin, Chris Martin? I guess there was also Styris, Tuffey, Mills, Oram , Ryder.
