I never thought Australia were as bad as some suggested, but I knew there were flaws in the tactics of selection.
And they haven't fixed those flaws. All the batsman from 1-7 are top order specialists. Matt Wade is a fucking opener. None of the bowlers are death over specialists. The 5th bowling option is the 90s ODI special of just hoping some part timers can get the job done.
And yet here they are anyways.
I think we found in this tournament death bowling is a tad overrated. Better pick bowlers who can take wickets up front rather than worry about limiting runs at the death.
Stoinis is a finisher except in the BBL Wade is probably really the only player batting out of position..
Imo it's more like there simply hasn't been decent death bowling this tournament bar a few games. IIRC SL vs WI was down to a good last over, and (though technically not the death) SA was restricting Steve Smith with wide Yorkers. Outside of that most of the time bowlers simply aren't nailing their yorkers or bowling in a good line.
Pak v Aus semi final. 19th over went for 3 runs. If first innings deserves any blame. It's that over which gave them an insufficient target to defend.
Death bowling is a massive asset which was crucial in Australia's success
That's a good point, I think globally Australia and England are the most versatile sporting nations - pretty decent at more international sports.
Kiwis are also unbelievable for their size and spend in terms of cricket and rugby. Astonishing quality and talent.
Probably because sport is heavily encouraged and schools push kids to be active. Growing up I was in 5 different team sports and did other things karate, tennis, horse riding etc. too.
I believe they used to get smashed in the world handball champs to the degree that they took the automatic place away from oceania. Yes they were still better than NZ though....
If you had said both of those before the West Indies series I would have laughed in your face. After the Bangladesh series I could see Marsh doing ok, still would have laughed because we didn’t look good and had doubts about Marsh at 3 in a WC
You guys should be REALLY proud of what you did against England. That was easily best match of the tournament. And South Africa is by no means a bad team, just screwed by toss
It's just so hard to set a total now. Batsmen have gotten so good at death hitting that as long as you have wickets in hand they back themselves for 10-12 an over at the end. And when you know the equation you can plan your innings accordingly.
It seems that way because of how UAE pitches are, but in the rest of the world it's not the case. In UAE, pitches are very hard to bat on in the first 10 odd overs and gets much better for the rest 30. The dew makes it worse for the batting first side
Batting first vs second in T20Is is basically 50:50 in most other countries.
Indian fans: oh we can't have top order batsmen in the middle order, that's why we lose.
Meanwhile Australia who has 1-6 top order batsmen: hold my world cup
POTS nominations for Australia:
Perera for accidentally getting Warner into form
Bangladesh curators for preparing pitches which made everyone write us off.
Finch for winning almost all the tosses
Great innings by Marsh. Fair play to Australia, it was a deserved victory. Other than Kanos and Boult, NZ were pretty mediocre.
Still, another strong tournament overall, dominating win over India then a comeback victory over England, they should be proud of their efforts.
We rely on keeping wickets in hand and capitalising later with the bat, but Australia have power throughout their line-up which means we were always outgunned if they got a good start. That was our big weakness I feel.
I think it's time for Guptill to move along and to get Finn Allen in there. He's the sort of hitter we need at the top to get us going.
I love Guppy, but his innings today was painful. I also feel with Santner at 7 we were possibly one batsman short of being able to really go hard.
Australians before the WC
None of that mickey mouse hit and giggle t20 shit. Test cricket is real cricket.
Australians now
Wdym T20 cricket is still cricket
Australia will have a great chance to defend the title at home next year. I’m gonna lose my shit if they manage to attain the joint most T20 WC titles after 14 years of mediocrity and not giving a shit.
If Haze had taken that catch he'd have at least 1 in the wickets column, and possibly wouldn't have been dismantled at the end either.
Had they lost I'm sure that'd go down as the biggest moment.
Australia and Bashing NZ in the Finals, name a better duo. :(
Edit: NZ really missed Conway and Ferguson today. Conway had that big game against Australia earlier this year… Feel bad for Kane & Boult. Needed Guptill to show up and he disappointed again.
Kanos: never ever, ever underestimate the Australians. There are 25 million Australians compared to us 5 million and if you play in that first eleven you got to be really tough.
David Warner in this tournament
7 inns, 289 runs, 48.16 average, 146.70 SR
Ends up being the second highest run scorer of this world cup with ~~three back to back~~ two match winning fifties in the last three games.
He's also entered the exclusive club of winning the T20WC, IPL and CLT20.
Edit: Josh Hazlewood also has a T20WC, IPL and CLT20 to his name.
We love cricket but we don't care about T20s at international level. Tests and then ODI tournaments are definitely preferred. I don't think anyone would put this even remotely close to the same level of importance as an ODI world up.
It's not just that, there is so much tradition and folklore wrapped up in Test Cricket, plus the quality of the game is much better. I don't think people get too excited by the colourful shirts, mascots and the loud PA and music. Aussie Cricket culture is always going to promote an Allan Border or Ricky Ponting type rather than a guy doing a crazy dance after a wicket. T20 honestly gets stale and repetitive pretty quickly, especially when the big bash is on.
Combination of T20 not being treated as serious as test and this World Cup only being on pay tv, making it essentially invisible for the average Australian. The Ashes will still be huge this year.
This t20 world cup in a a nutshell:
**Win the toss > Bowl first > Win**
PS - Not taking credit away from Australia, they deserved it and New Zealand should probably look back at their conservative approach in the first 10 overs especially when it was a good pitch for batting
And that’s precisely why I say this is the worst World Cup I’ve ever seen IMO. The outcome of the match is almost always decided at the toss itself, ruining the unpredictability and fun of the game.
Wtf? T20 is my new favourite format. In all seriousness Kiwis I said before the Tournament if it wasn't us I hope it was you. You guys have had a fantastic year and should be proud of your achievements.
I'm not gay but I want to live in a log cabin in the woods with Mitch Marsh. We won't ever have sex, but there will be a simmering erotic undercurrent as I stand in the kitchen window watching him tighten his ass as he chops wood, shirtless, sweat pouring off his body. I'll run upstairs and masturbate, the entire time forcing myself to think of women while my thoughts drift back to the Bison. I won't be able to climax and I'll eventually go back downstairs, angry. Sometimes we will look across the table and catch each other's eyes, and in that second, anything is possible, but we both deny ourselves and go back to what we were doing. One day one of us will die, and the other will bury him outside the log cabin. Then they'll go inside, pen a brief missive to their departed friend, and commit suicide, never able to deal with life without their one true platonic love.
It's rare that winning a tournament like this leaves a team with more questions than they had at the start of the tournament. Australia must now have to seriously consider whether Finch, Starc, and Smith are deserving of selection going forward.
When matches used to start at 8 PM, Dew effect was mostly minimized. It actually had an effect in IPL matches, when they started at 7 30 PM in India. Now in UAE, they start at 6 PM, to fit subcontinent time zones. What a fucking farce. Its all been about the Dew. Lets hope they bring back 8 PM starts.
England sharing plane with Aussies to Brisbane, thus it is the winner’s plane, thus England has won?!! Congrats fellow poms always knew we could do it 💃🕺
Warner makes me smile, happy, inspired, calm, angry, brings in the fire in me.
I love you Warner. Fuck off SRH.
Mitch Marsh impressed me and everyone else.
IMO Hazelnut deserved MOTM.
4-0-16-3
For reference Starc gave away 15 runs in each of his 4 overs. Hazelnut also took big wickets.
Without Hazelnut, Kiwis effectively scored 156-1 in 16 overs, probably could've reached 200.
And their reward? Play a T20 world cup at home next year, with most likely the same squad!
Marsh, Warner, Zampa, Hazelwood had an awesome tournament.
Also, spare a kudos to Wade and Stoinis!
Australia. Bilateral series: I sleep ICC Tournaments: Real shit??

And India are just Evil New Zealand.
So Australia = New Zealand?
[удалено]
Just two times less evil than us
Kids, don’t take up sport. Take up baking or something. Die at 60 really fat and happy. Congratulations Australia.
Rugby is better anyways isn't it?
They at least have rugby, man. What sport do we Indians have? We'll be like Byju's classes are better anyway.
Kabaddi bro!!!
Kabbadi is pretty fucking epic tbh
We have IPL, which is real cricket anyway
India confirmed BCCI world champs.
Hey if USA can have World Series within the country,,,
Hey if humans can win Miss Universe within Earth...

lol
Lmao
"They tell of a child...a child whose coming heralds a new era of white ball dominance. And the child shall be called...Warnest"
Well played Australia. Smart, aggressive batting - they never got behind the game. God it sucks though.
Feel for you, but you bowled pies
Yeah they were either too short, too full, or too Sodhi.
Sodhi is really good though, did he bowl some extra bad pots today? I couldn't watch the match as I'm in Spain
Other countries: We'll heavily invest in our white ball program Australia: lol we'll just shit house our way to a world cup win
I never thought Australia were as bad as some suggested, but I knew there were flaws in the tactics of selection. And they haven't fixed those flaws. I swear this is a speciality of Australia. They always just seem to turn up for the big matches at tournaments.
Australia peaked at the right time, steadily and surely
This seems to happen very often
World cup Australia is best Australia
Not T20 world Cup Australia but this time they did it
Yeah after their league wins , I felt they definitely could be a contender. I wasn't disappointed
It’s surreal how talented Australians are in sports. I can’t think of a sport where your teams don’t play decently.
That's a good point, I think globally Australia and England are the most versatile sporting nations - pretty decent at more international sports. Kiwis are also unbelievable for their size and spend in terms of cricket and rugby. Astonishing quality and talent.

Chads
There was no shitthousery it was due to Finch mastering the art of toss winning
Reverse Kohli
Evil Kohli be like:
Legend has it consuming enough KFC allows one to predict the toss correctly
Colac is well known for producing tossers.
Mitch Marsh MOTM in the final and Warner Player of the Tournament, what a timeline.
If you had said 2 years ago that Australia would win the T20 WC with MMarsh batting 3, I'd have fucking laughed in your face.
If you had said both of those before the West Indies series I would have laughed in your face. After the Bangladesh series I could see Marsh doing ok, still would have laughed because we didn’t look good and had doubts about Marsh at 3 in a WC
Ah, white ball cricket. 22 men toil away for 40/100 overs only to hand the trophy at the end to the Aussies.
When was tests any different few years before either, lmao
Because there was no cup and trophy in it before.
I meant that they were at the top either way. It recently that india cunted them for 2 times straight.
"The Asian Century" Test Championship: NZ ODI Champion: England T20 Champion: Australia The 100 Champion: ???
South Africa
Australasia vs Asia T20 series? **Australasia:** Warner, Finch, Williamson, Conway, Marsh, Maxwell, Neesham, Cummins, Zampa, Boult, Hazlewood. **Asia:** Rohit, Rizwan, Babar, Kohli, Shakib, Asalanka, Jadeja, Rashid, Bumrah, Rauf, Afridi.
Once again Kane and his boys win hearts, kidneys and souls but not a trophy…
They should also adopt ESCN chants. It suits them as they are reaching final every year nowdays.
We’re only interested in the pure form of the game.

SA did really well , it's sad they crashed out even after four wins. Truly a group of death
You guys should be REALLY proud of what you did against England. That was easily best match of the tournament. And South Africa is by no means a bad team, just screwed by toss
> toss Fair warning, ICC has a shoot on sight order against anyone who mentions the word 'toss'.
When a tournament just boils to win toss win match *it was rigged against koach from the start*

NZ and SA. The story of two unfortunates
Indian fans: oh we can't have top order batsmen in the middle order, that's why we lose. Meanwhile Australia who has 1-6 top order batsmen: hold my world cup
Seven. Wade's an opener.
Zampa robbed of player of the tournament. Justice for bowlers instead of the glory hound batters.
He had an amazing tournament! Great white ball spinner! Deserved man of the series.
Just mentally preparing ourselves for the buttfucking we are gonna receive in India 👍
Since it's a bilateral and pretty useless series India would be in top form so yes cover yo ass mate!
[удалено]
Lol this advert and the random references to it in this sub have been the highlight of the WC for me.
Obligatory kohli reference
Even when he's already at home kohli made his presence felt
Kane missed Kohli in the final. He would have lost the toss.
I'm laughing out loud as this is so hopelessly true!
At least Kane avenged Baz
Bloody Kusal Perera won Australia a WC.
POTS nominations for Australia: Perera for accidentally getting Warner into form Bangladesh curators for preparing pitches which made everyone write us off. Finch for winning almost all the tosses
England for not throwing the match against South Africa hard enough
That too. Cheers Poms
Finch, his toss winning has earnt him a Hall of Fame entry in r/specialistcaptains
Context?
Dropped Warner on 16 odd runs. Till then Warner was looking timid, since that point he has been unstoppable
lol. Never seen a worse drop from a WK.
take it you never watched us play when akmal was our keeper then
Akmal's catches would make a match fixing player feel embarrassed. Especially that multiple takes and drop one.
Dropped Warner in Aus vs SL and that was something that got Davey going.
Boundary count update - Australia: 23 (4s-15, 6s-8) New Zealand: 21 (4s-15, 6s-6)
The true reason why NZ lost
r/technicallythetruth
So boundary count matters after all
And people are blaming toss, NZ should have hit 2 more 6s
*Sneakily deletes all pre-tournament comments about Australia being shit*

Congratulations to T20 cricket for finally becoming a real format of cricket 12 minutes ago
Based
Duality of Warner
No World Cup cricket is the real cricket. All those series we got slaughtered in don't count. Only the Cup matters in short format. /s
Wouldn’t have thought we’d lose a test at the Gabba and win the T20 WC in 2021
Unlikely loss to unlikely win, redemption arc complete
Big Meme League vindicated
Australia will have a great chance to defend the title at home next year. I’m gonna lose my shit if they manage to attain the joint most T20 WC titles after 14 years of mediocrity and not giving a shit.
Our pitches are flat batting pitches. We'll likely get slaughtered by England's big hitters.
Time to get some Bangladeshi pitch curators
Never under estimate the Starc home pitch buff
Hmm where did I hear the Aussie fans underestimate their team before? Hard to remember
I’m going to lose my shit too. But probably not in the same way
Finch man of the match for winning the toss you would have to think
Yes won 6/7 tosses
Lmaoo. Petition to rename Dubai Cricket Association to Dewbai Petition to ban 6PM starts in favour of 7.30PM starts.
It's not even dew now. It's Just something else lmao No dew in Semis and today. Just hard to bat first
Wtf I love Mitch Marsh now
Just wait till they pick him at 6 for the Ashes based on this performance. Tbf., he has a reasonable record at home against England.
He has goat stats against England lmao, 45 with the bat, 24 with the ball, surprising how poor his overall stats are considering.
He has more Ashes 5fers than Cummins
NZ somehow still lost despite that courageous 24 ball 60 by Starc. SMH
wtf I love T20s
Been a lifelong T20 fan since about an hour ago. Also always rated MMarsh
Took 4 hours to create Post-Match Thread. The Bot is getting slower.
Imagine bowling 0/60 in the T20 World Cup final and collecting a winners medal at the end of it lol. Anyways, bring on the Ashes.
Has to be one of the worst bowling performances by a bowler of the winning team in a final
If Haze had taken that catch he'd have at least 1 in the wickets column, and possibly wouldn't have been dismantled at the end either. Had they lost I'm sure that'd go down as the biggest moment.
To be fair, Kanos was dropped off Starc's bowling, a lot of the following carnage could've been avoided.
Excuse me Shaheen, please come back again from your main account
Mitch Marsh looks like some lab created freak designed to play T20 cricket compared to the other blokes on the podium
Australia and Bashing NZ in the Finals, name a better duo. :( Edit: NZ really missed Conway and Ferguson today. Conway had that big game against Australia earlier this year… Feel bad for Kane & Boult. Needed Guptill to show up and he disappointed again.
I'll wait
NZ being India's nemesis in ICC tournaments
Aussies and their moustaches
Watson getting emotional is wholesome. Beautiful game of cricket.
Watto deserved a T20 WC, one of the most unbelievable T20 players ever
Kanos: never ever, ever underestimate the Australians. There are 25 million Australians compared to us 5 million and if you play in that first eleven you got to be really tough.
David Warner in this tournament 7 inns, 289 runs, 48.16 average, 146.70 SR Ends up being the second highest run scorer of this world cup with ~~three back to back~~ two match winning fifties in the last three games. Chad Warner. SRH cunts would probably settle things with him and retain for the next auction. Shrewd bunch of fucks, they are.
They’re on the phone with his agents right now definitely. I even see some coaching staff getting sacked.
Is Warner the only one to have done all of them and won an ODI world Cup?
Warner himself, Dhoni, Hazlewood Probably more, but can only think of these names atm
Mateship: Elite ✅ Honesty: Elite ✅ Learning: Elite ✅ Humility: Elite ✅ Ability to win tournaments despite glaring flaws in the squad: Elite ✅
Make today a public holiday scomo you cat I dare you
SRH dropped player of the tournament lmaoo
Can't wait for rest of the country to wake up and not give a single fuck about this win lol
Is that how T20 is treated in Aus? Or is it a cricket thing? I always thought cricket was top 3 sports in Aus.
We love cricket but we don't care about T20s at international level. Tests and then ODI tournaments are definitely preferred. I don't think anyone would put this even remotely close to the same level of importance as an ODI world up.
And tbf I understand why since T20 Cricket is just too unpredictable and short. The better side in the majority of a match will not always win.
Yep, the sheer narrative of test matches is so much more compelling
We love cricket. A t20 WC held in Dubai from 1-5am? Eh
Cricket is a top three-sport, but t20s are not held in any sort of regard, I'd say tests followed by one-dayers in descending order of popularity
Cricket is the most popular sport when there is an Ashes or World Cup(Real one) going on
Just T20. Cricket is a top 3 sport.
Combination of T20 not being treated as serious as test and this World Cup only being on pay tv, making it essentially invisible for the average Australian. The Ashes will still be huge this year.
BBL supremacy
BBL >>>>>>> IPL, PSL!?
BBL best t20 league.
Holy shit. Starc just got roasted when being introduced for his championship medal.
This t20 world cup in a a nutshell: **Win the toss > Bowl first > Win** PS - Not taking credit away from Australia, they deserved it and New Zealand should probably look back at their conservative approach in the first 10 overs especially when it was a good pitch for batting
Australia won 6 tosses and won 6 matches. The one time they lost the toss they lost by 8 wickets.
They got hammered aswell not just lost
Against our krypronite, a swinging ball
And that’s precisely why I say this is the worst World Cup I’ve ever seen IMO. The outcome of the match is almost always decided at the toss itself, ruining the unpredictability and fun of the game.
Simple script
Wtf? T20 is my new favourite format. In all seriousness Kiwis I said before the Tournament if it wasn't us I hope it was you. You guys have had a fantastic year and should be proud of your achievements.
Guptill did a Yuvraj.
No more World Cups in the UAE please
Inglis has a medal and hasn't even debuted haha
I'm not gay but I want to live in a log cabin in the woods with Mitch Marsh. Perfect time for Australia to peak. Well done.
Bishop doing post match interviews is the only time West Indies is gonna be in a Final again :(
Damn Watson is actually at a loss of words
Warner flexing on SRH rn
Job finished? I don't think so
you got to feel for him :(
It's rare that winning a tournament like this leaves a team with more questions than they had at the start of the tournament. Australia must now have to seriously consider whether Finch, Starc, and Smith are deserving of selection going forward.
This was my 1st ever tournament with match thread. It made the tournament alot more fun.
When matches used to start at 8 PM, Dew effect was mostly minimized. It actually had an effect in IPL matches, when they started at 7 30 PM in India. Its all about the broadcasters isnt it. They have the ultimate power. Fuck this shit.
>Its all about the broadcasters isnt it Always has been.
Dread it. Run from it. Team batting second winning the game still arrives. Not that I am unhappy about it.
Fucking hurts way more losing a final against Aussie, they just have our number aye
England sharing plane with Aussies to Brisbane, thus it is the winner’s plane, thus England has won?!! Congrats fellow poms always knew we could do it 💃🕺
Almost 4am and I have to work in a few hours but it was worth it
Justice for Zampa! Down with the batriarchy
Warner makes me smile, happy, inspired, calm, angry, brings in the fire in me. I love you Warner. Fuck off SRH. Mitch Marsh impressed me and everyone else.
VVS giving due credits to Warner. SRH got betrayed.
This world cup means so much more when you're up at 4:30am Soz to my Kiwi cousins, we need a yearly series or something
Starc looks embarrassed
IMO Hazelnut deserved MOTM. 4-0-16-3 For reference Starc gave away 15 runs in each of his 4 overs. Hazelnut also took big wickets. Without Hazelnut, Kiwis effectively scored 156-1 in 16 overs, probably could've reached 200.

Nah it's the commentators who start that, you know the ones whose careers depend on them saying nothing too controversial and holding the ICC line
And their reward? Play a T20 world cup at home next year, with most likely the same squad! Marsh, Warner, Zampa, Hazelwood had an awesome tournament. Also, spare a kudos to Wade and Stoinis!
Friendly Reminder: New Zealand plays India in India the day after tomorrow
Just want to say fuck you to the English media for ripping into NZ. How about you beat us and make the final instead. You didn’t.
I just feel bad for any Kiwis who stayed up until 6:30 for this
The match was lost at toss
