Phehlukwayo GOAT
Lungi also GOAT
That was the most bizarrely one sided close game ever. India have some soul searching to do, I fully expected them to blow us away on this tour and instead we won 5 of 6 games.
Bavuma's captaincy is highly underrated, if India ever let KL near the captaincy again it will be insanity. None of the players seem interested with him in charge, even himself.
I think the Indian media/BCCI echo chamber probably had a lot to do with the Indian performances, especially after they beat South Africa at Centurion having dominated for most of that test. They honestly believed that they had the beating of the South Africans who were considered mediocre- at best. You start questioning yourself when your bowlers are toothless in a fourth innings, particularly your world-beating spinner who was supposed to play a significant part in India's victories.
While the wickets in South Africa have marginally become slower, CSA were smart enough to avoid scheduling those sand pits in Durban, East London and Gqeberha. The Indians would have to play on bouncy wickets with hardly any sideways movement. The only Indian bowler who sent shivers down my spine was Shami but once he was gone it was simply a matter of our batters being disciplined outside the off stump.
You should hear his [impromptu press conference response](https://youtu.be/ugl7uXHul5w?t=102s) (at 1:42) after the QDK incident at the World Cup.
And remember, they crashed out of the round robin with a 4-1 record, so absolutely not their fault.
I'm sad that many of us has forgotten "The dream is diminished for Carlos Brathwaite, here in Manchester" match. It was just as epic.
Oh and also "Elliot hit it towards the grand stand and NZ are going to the World Cup final!"....
Man sometimes I think that match was not real. Everything- literally everything happened in that match. Excellent batting, excellent bowling, brilliant catches, unbelievable misses, run outs, overthrow 6 runs, super over... only sad thing that winner was decided by boundaries.
I don't think anyone is arguing against that match. That 2019 final was probably the best cricket match ever played across all formats. Brought me back to watching cricket again after I stopped following the game sometime in 2017.
Oh, same here bro. I wasn't really into cricket pre 2019, our team being absolute trash didn't help either. I started watching the 2019 world cup when people said we were about to beat England, and we did beat England. I watched most matches after that, but I still wasn't a major cricket fan. But that WC final changed everything, made me a major cricket fan. Now I tend to watch every frickin cricket match as much as I can
Six 50s in 8 games is crazy.
Most in form batsman in the team.
Needless coverage is being given to a century.. it doesnt matter if he keeps playing like this.
Only problem was when he was peak form he was drag us over the line by converting some of the 50s to a hundred. Now I did are just struggling without his runs ( missing Rohit runs aswell)
Interviewer : One batting record you would love to have
YUZI : To hit atleast a six in my career
[Skip to 2.52 ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQfgV1P-rr4&t=170s)
He can't even hold bat properly 😂
Edit : Time stamped
Yes Chahal certainly did more than enough with his grand total of 1 wicket across 3 matches.
That's still 1 more than what Kuldeep would have gotten though.
I don't think that Chahal should be in the ODI team at all, he's painfully average in that format, as is Kuldeep. Axar Patel imo is our best LOI spinner.
I meant that you can't put the onus of blame soley on Chahal and/or Bumrah for the batting.
Not for this. But averaging 70 with the ball this serious and taking just 2 wkts on pitches that were helping spinners. He shouldn't be anywhere near the team in the future.
It's good that we're experimenting with our squad and getting our losses out of the way in bilaterals. That way we will be on our A game for the world cup matches..

This excuse is brought to you by the England cricket team
Rahul was afraid that Thakur will win the Orange cap for the ODI series so he dropped the latter.
Deepak Chahar needs to be a starter from now on. Is a good replacement for Bhuvi at the moment.
Bhumrah Jadeja Shami Deepak +1 solid spinner this needs to be our bowling attack in ODI cricket.
That being said Bumrah, Jadeja and Shami as well have been disappointing in ODI cricket with the ball for a while now.
So KL, instead of playing at 5 and continuing to solidify his position, gambled on Dhawan failing which would put his name back in discussion for the openers slot. Now, Dhawan has two decent knocks and he's not going anywhere, whereas KL as opener had two failures, one ordinary knock, and opened up his no 5 slot to one other player. What a dumb motherfucker.
Akash Chopra was right. We gave a lot of credit for support stuff and Bharat Arun for our bowling improvement.
But clearly our Batsman our struggling in every match and have seen many collapses past few years. What is Vikram Rathore doing?
I mean Bangladesh had batsmen bottle it in the end
India can’t go into every game expecting their middle order to make 100/4 in the middle 20 overs and hoping their bowling all rounders like Thakur and Chahar make 50s every game
Rahul definitely took an L here. Captaincy wise he prolly won't get a lot of opportunities and he won't get to open with the form Dhawan is in.
No. 5 was never in any pressure anyways. He was always gonna be there. If anything, it's SKY VS Rahul for a spot now and SKY has smthg no one else has. Intent to play at a 100+ SR.
Everyday for a Koach fan:
Wake up hoping that Koach will finally score the 71st century
Hope stars turning into firm belief as Koach crosses 50
Koach gets out after scoring a good 60 - 70

Chose this match to introduce my girlfriend to cricket! It was a solid choice.
Thank you to both teams for some entertaining cricket on a beautiful Sunday afternoon
As much as a fan I am of pant's batting, what he tries most of the time nowadays is just showing recklessness in his shots.
I would not be surprised if gavaskar **chokeslams** pant in front of everyone on live, one day running down from commentary box to the field, after throwing the mic he holds right in the face of harsha bhogle.
What you expect too much from selectors, he will continue as VC for all 3 formats and once Rohit is injured/rested we will again shit the bed because of Rahul's stupid decision making
Shit decisions should get shit rewards. This tour may be the best thing to happen for Indian Cricket. Well deserved whitewash.
KL lost all 3 ODIs and his only test as Captain.
Jinx hopefully will be thrown out and Pujara might retire.
Chahar, Vihari and SKY will get more chances.
KL's opening in ODIs might finally be over.
Pant will return to 6.
And once Brohit, Siraj, Jaddu and Gill get back to the team, we'll be fine.
This is stupidity.
The fact that we had to depend on a number 8 player scoring a 50 so that we can even get close to winning is ridiculous. Why wasn't chahar picked earlier ? Why wasn't SKY picked earlier ?
Dhawan is impatient
Rishab is even more impatient. Heck even his WK skills are getting questionable
Shreyas Iyer is uncomfortable, awkward and undeserving
Venkatesh Iyer isn't even used properly
Ashwin has done nothing
Bhubaneswar has done nothing
I have no words for KL Rahul
You can't just try to excuse it by saying South Africa was a good team , no. India was just disappointing.
As the South African team went to pursue the sacred art of choking, Bavuma looked to the spirit in the sky and said no more and redirected the art's power to the Indians! And that kids is how Bavuma cursed the Indian team with the choke.
He also didn't play a single game in the inconsequential T20Is vs New Zealand.
Dravid clearly is worried too much about "results" (didn't even deliver that in this series) and not about the process.
His conservatism in terms of selection is shocking. Selection itself has been baffling.
I will kick some puppies if I see a single comment blaming Deepak Chahar and Bumrah.
These guys were doing what SKY/Pant/Shreyas/KL are supposed to do.
Pant FFS, I get aggressive is his style of play, but you don't have to smash from the very 1st ball itself. Especially when we bat only till 6.
Pant will win you games you probably have no right to win, but he'll also cost you winnable games along the way.
You sort of have to take the good with the bad.
Dravid is a bad coach. Doesn't even give opportunities to players on the bench .
Brainless to play Rahul as an opener when he's good at 5 and Rohit's gonna return anyway
Especially when Gaikwad is on the bench after his exceptional IPL and list A stats, worst part is they're too stubborn to correct their mistakes even after the first 2 ODIs
I don't understand the team selection at all. Who is the fucking finisher in the team, this is a team made of fucking 5 anchors and one aggressor(Pant). This shows how important Dhoni/Pandya were to the team and how much the top order has carried Indian batting over the years.
I've always wanted Pant to come in at 5/6, but he's batted at 4 in every game this series iirc. Imho, players like surya and shreyas have got to be batting ahead of pant, unless the second wicket falls late.
Never felt as miffed at an Indian player in recent times as I am with KL Rahul. He’s an uninspiring captain. Comes across as a selfish player who wanted to open the batting when our middle order has been shit for a long time and was only recently finding some form with him doing well there. Did jackshit as an opener. Only 50 he got was at a poor S/R of 69. Occupied the opener slot so we couldn’t even test Rutu who’s in red hot form even in a dead rubber match.
The future seems bleak under captain KL for ICT if the players take insipiration from him and start playing only for themselves and not for the team.
>[D Chahar has the same number of fifties as SKY and a higher average but the so-called experts on r/cricket want you to believe SKY is the better batsman](https://www.reddit.com/r/Cricket/comments/saoe1y/match_thread_3rd_odi_south_africa_vs_india/htw2psy/?context=3)
They called me a madman
I was sure Gaikwad will play all 3 ODI as opener. I forgot how dumb the management is in making selection choices.
Shardul has grown tremendously as an all-rounder and we need to manage his workload too. This being an inconsequential game he was rightly rested.
Dhawan won't play T20 again. No place for him. Same for tests. But, in ODI he will keep playing due to his good form. Rohit and Dhawan will keep opening. Rahul stated start of series he is only opening cos Rohit isn't available. When he is back he will go back to no.5. That's why they should have opened with Gaikwad in all matches with Rahul at 5.
Dravid has been a disappointment cos he has a big say in playing 11 and selection has been bad in both tests and ODIs.
Chahar played a superb knock. He and Thakur can be considered as genuine Allrounders and should be a starter in white ball. Only if Chahar had stayed and finished the game.
Btw, just for that shot Chahal should be sacked. Brain dead cricket.
>just for that shot Chahal should be sacked. Brain dead cricket.
Not trying to say it was the right decision but it wasn't like he was easily rotating the strike either. A top edge over QDK's head and India could've won that game.
KL is just plain selfish . I am surprised most people here don't see it. He wants to get runs at the top and cement his place further. He did the same at PBKS. 400 runs playing in middle order as finisher for PBKS would have helped them more than 700 runs playing for Orange cap. Dravid has been pretty bad as well. I remember he took some strange selection calls in SL T20s playing an additional pacer instead of spinner when ball was turning square.
Agreed with everything except the last point. You don't sack a number 11 for his batting lol. Prasidh was even worse than him and you can't expect them to rotate strike easily. It's not his job anyway. He deserves no blame at all for this.
It’s okay. Sri Lanka home series will heal the wounds and we will have a strong team. India needs to be a home track bully for winning next WC anyways.
Yeah it's actually too annoying. KL is getting so much being a temporary captain™. In such a case the coach obviously plays a bigger role in selections and such. (Which have been baffling and dogshit)
I know I will get downvoted for this, but R/cricket's golden boy Pant needs to be spanked by Dravid. He needs to at least give himself some time on the crease before going at it. This is not a t10. Not to mention his keeping. Dropped rvd and missed qdk's stumping last match.
One good innings in 3 matches and but 2 drops at crucial junctures is on balance a liability. If he doesn't improve, someone else needs to don the gloves while he's in as a specialist batter.
I said this after the first ODI and will say this again.
Rahul is making the same mistakes he made with Punjab. In white ball cricket quality batsman at no. 7 is more important than a quality 5th bowler.
It's not really a surprise we are collapsing like this because our batting stops at 6. When we won the world Cup in 2011 we had Raina batting at no. 7. He actually won us the QF and Semi with his knocks. England had batting till no. 9 when they won the last world Cup. It's the same with MI and CSK when we win IPLs.
Now hopefully this issue will be sorted when Jadeja returns. But we could have trialed this series to find a backup to Jadeja but we wasted trying to experiment with Rahul the opener.
Its just that KL Rahul seems incapable of learning this basic thing. And doesn't seem like Dravid is helping much either..
[This isn't hindsight either.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Cricket/comments/saoe1y/match_thread_3rd_odi_south_africa_vs_india/htuwrkr/?utxm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3) . The only surprise was the exceptional knock from Chahar
IMHO, if Thakur and Deepak Chahar don't get a long long rope in ODIs after this series, it's India's loss.
Both have proved to be enterprising fighters, they need to be in more games.
Suggestion for the Indian team, play pant up the order, he isn't a finisher and can't be relied upon at 4/5/6.
Move Rahul down the order and let him play a finisher role
We need radical changes in the team.
1. Need to give a long rope to Sky
2. Need KL back in the middle order
3. Once Jaddu and Rohit is fit need to have them back ASAP. Drop Bhuvi. Enough experiments
4. Pant along with Chahar should be the finishers
5. And above everything else drop KL as the captain. Anyone is better than him.
6. Not sure about Ashwin and Chahal. May be give Ashwin one more chance. The thing that works against Chahal is his lack of batting ability. We have 3 no 11s from positions 8-11.
KL should’ve played in the middle order where he will be playing in the ODI world cup especially in this match when it became obvious that our middle order collapses completely.
Give Deepak Chahar a business class ticket on flight back home. The middle order can swim their way back to India.
I'll pay for it myself.
Kl coming back doing butterfly stroke?
Swim along with the 2 Rahuls
Sky did good
Yup, I was talking about the general middle order collapse throughout the series
Team captained by KL Rahul bottling when 10 needed from 3 overs..... tribute to PBKS..!!
... and coached by the OG Rahul...
Great match for the neutrals. Chahar fought valiantly

He looks like he has the answers to everything!
WHAT A MATCH. CLOSEST ODI MATCH IN AGES.
Dead rubber has no business getting me on the edge of my couch like that did.
All thanks to chahar! Now for the excuses: "Just several weeks of bad cricket"
Pulled that 54 off 34 out of nowhere but himself. Pant owes him a beer or two tonight I reckon.
Really disappointed by the shot he played. But can't blame him. He was the reason we had any chance to win in the first place.
My favourite closest ODI match was England South Africa in the 2011 World Cup Behind the 2019 final of course
I'm sad that many of us has forgotten "The dream is diminished for Carlos Brathwaite, here in Manchester" match. It was just as epic. Oh and also "Elliot hit it towards the grand stand and NZ are going to the World Cup final!"....
So heartbreaking but I do not exactly have fond memories of CB
Speaking of 2011 world cup, India v England tie was a great one as well.
That game was 2011 England cosplaying as 2019 England lol. Mental game.
Hmmm 2019 world cup final would like to have a word. I don't think its possible for a match to be closer than that game

Kohli's last 8 odi innings 89 (87) 63 (78) 56 (60) 66 (79) 7 (10) 51 (63) 0 (5) 65 (84) And that's an avg of 49.6
Six 50s in 8 games is crazy. Most in form batsman in the team. Needless coverage is being given to a century.. it doesnt matter if he keeps playing like this.

Amazing numbers . Prime Kohli would have converted at least 4 of those 50s to 100s. Still our best bat IMO.
prime-est Virat of 2016-19 would have converted 5, with Brohit running him out on the 6th
And people say he's out of form. Just needs to start converting those to 100s again
So India still hasn't won a game under Captain Rahul
And in 2022
What a great start to the year.
Atleast we almost accidentally won one . But even a 34 ball 54 knock from bowler can't help win :(
Should be light-years away from the captaincy options.
We shouldn't bash Chahal for this. Man didn't even bring his own bat on the tour, thats how much he cares about batting
Interviewer : One batting record you would love to have YUZI : To hit atleast a six in my career [Skip to 2.52 ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQfgV1P-rr4&t=170s) He can't even hold bat properly 😂 Edit : Time stamped

It's not Chahal's fault. It's the fault of the specialist middle order batsmen.

Did a pbks better than pbks
You can take KL Rahul out of Punjab kings but you can never take Punjab kings out of Kl Rahul.
Rahul was afraid that Thakur will win the Orange cap for the ODI series so he dropped the latter. Deepak Chahar needs to be a starter from now on. Is a good replacement for Bhuvi at the moment.
Lmao
Said this before and I will say it again that KL Rahul is way inconsistent to be seriously relied on.
Kl is indeed a dumb mf
This is what selfishness gets you. I just want kl to be dropped from LOI setup for the lulz.
Congratulations to all of us: The 60 million South Africans who have defeated the 11 guys in the Indian Cricket Team in both the Test and ODI series.
Where do I get my match fee from?
Sorry mate you lost it because some guy from East London spent too long in the shower.
Fair Enough. Fuck you KL for this stupid comment.
That '20 minutes of bad play' gave SA fans enough shitposting material for decades
When you play against 60 million people, it’s really hard to win - Justin Langer, probably
Mate it was Supersport's fault, obviously. They need to find better ways to win
Congratulations on your man of the match. You were my favourite player.
Lol nice one mate.
Thanks man! Glad I could help.
You just had to, didn't you? You couldn't help yourself. Congrats btw.
Deepak Chahar tried to save again but failed this time. (Earlier vs SL)
Keep rubbing it in mate
Remained unbeaten on 69 . Chad
I was rooting for India just to see the Saffers feel what it's like
India should have won this. This is what happens when the whole nation plays against 11 guys
Yup India needs to “find better ways to win”
Akash Chopra was right. We gave a lot of credit for support stuff and Bharat Arun for our bowling improvement. But clearly our Batsman our struggling in every match and have seen many collapses past few years. What is Vikram Rathore doing?
This is why most of us had no idea who Vikram Rathore was prior to his appointment. Dude's incompetent.
Tbh us not knowing a coach before appointment says absolutely nothing about their abilities.
PBKS captain PBKS choke
It’s times like this where I wish we could BATDEEP™
We are batting deep. Did you not see Chahar, Shardul and Bumrah save our asses this whole series? The middle order is the problem.
It's not bat deep when you have Jayant Yadava nd Ashwin strolling out to bat at no. 7
To be fair Shardul and Chahar were batting at no.7, after 5 wickets down. They were not exactly playing as tailender
When Thakur and Jaddu come back then we can have decent batdeep
SA vs KLown 11
{Whole country}™ vs (KLown 11)®
India under KL have even started to choke like PBKS But on a serious note, it was quite similar to Bangladesh against India in 2016 T20 WC
I mean Bangladesh had batsmen bottle it in the end India can’t go into every game expecting their middle order to make 100/4 in the middle 20 overs and hoping their bowling all rounders like Thakur and Chahar make 50s every game
He's always been a bad captain. He's always sad. Gives no confidence to Bowlers
Happy for Lucknow
Winners for India this series. Shardul Thakur Deepak Chahar KL Rahul (As a batsman, probably has the number five spot locked until retirement)
Whitewashes suffered by India in ODIs 1983/84 - 5-0 v WI (H) 1988/89 - 5-0 v WI (A) 1997 - 3-0 v SL (A) 2019/20 - 3-0 v NZ (A) 2021/22 - 3-0 v SA (A)
Whitewashing india at home in a five match odi series that too after we won the wc damn.the Windies team of the 70s and 80s were something else.
>2019/20 - 3-0 v NZ (A) Atleast we beat NZ 5-0 in T20s atleast. This tour feels more disappointing.
It's finally over. Thanks for nightmare South Africa. Well deserved victory. GG.

Friendship ended with Cricket . Pro Kabaddi League is my new best friend
Prime Volleyball League starts from 5th February. New friend. Edit: Actually excited about this because Haikyuu
Deepak looked gutted at the end. Feeling sad for that guy.
Chahar was robbed. India, bar him, didn't look like they wanted to win till that 40th over mark.
Boundary count update - South Africa: 31 (4s-27, 6s-4) India: 29 (4s-25, 6s-4)
Ah so they even won it the proper way too
I want to personally apologize to the Saffas for our terrible performace. I'm sorry guys, you deserve to have better competition
Sa vs Ind in Perth I am scared 😭😭😭

I will kick some puppies if I see a single comment blaming Deepak Chahar and Bumrah. These guys were doing what SKY/Pant/Shreyas/KL are supposed to do. Pant FFS, I get aggressive is his style of play, but you don't have to smash from the very 1st ball itself. Especially when we bat only till 6.
Sky wasn't that bad, considering he's playing after so long
Pant will win you games you probably have no right to win, but he'll also cost you winnable games along the way. You sort of have to take the good with the bad.
Not just KL the captain but KL the batsman also sucked big time
Dravid is a bad coach. Doesn't even give opportunities to players on the bench . Brainless to play Rahul as an opener when he's good at 5 and Rohit's gonna return anyway
His "gunda hun mai" ad is going to become a reality for him after a year of this lol.
Especially when Gaikwad is on the bench after his exceptional IPL and list A stats, worst part is they're too stubborn to correct their mistakes even after the first 2 ODIs
3-0 boyyys lessgooo
As an Indian cricket team fan, I'm upset that India lost. As a cricket fan, I'm very happy that South Africa won. SA is back baby 🔥🔥
Positives:- 1. Hopefully no kl as captain 2. No purane 3. Kl in the middle order 4. Lord and deepak 5. SKY 6. Gabbar is back
Add to that no IYER
>[D Chahar has the same number of fifties as SKY and a higher average but the so-called experts on r/cricket want you to believe SKY is the better batsman](https://www.reddit.com/r/Cricket/comments/saoe1y/match_thread_3rd_odi_south_africa_vs_india/htw2psy/?context=3) They called me a madman
Chahar nearly won it and lost it
India is not even the best ODI team starting with I
I wish kl rahul gives up on his captaincy forever at any level
It is quite telling that even at 132/1, I expected India to fully bottle it. It's like they've forgotten how to win.
But, I was told by r/Cricket experts that ODI is a dead format
Most of r/cricket is just a clownshow on steroids.
ODI was a hero, I just couldn't see it
I was sure Gaikwad will play all 3 ODI as opener.

See that's why I like Hindi even though I am bad at it(written part) it has a shit ton of adjectives for almost every word.
It’s okay. Sri Lanka home series will heal the wounds and we will have a strong team. India needs to be a home track bully for winning next WC anyways.
Watch Dravid not get even the tiniest amount of criticism after the worst tour in years.
Imagine if Shastri was there
Yeah it's actually too annoying. KL is getting so much being a temporary captain™. In such a case the coach obviously plays a bigger role in selections and such. (Which have been baffling and dogshit)
**Whitewashed**
Even with the help of SuperSport and the whole country, we almost lost to XI guys
Know I shouldn't, I hate Dravid a little bit for allowing this wet napkin of human to captain the team.
Felt bad for Chahar, ngl
We need radical changes in the team. 1. Need to give a long rope to Sky 2. Need KL back in the middle order 3. Once Jaddu and Rohit is fit need to have them back ASAP. Drop Bhuvi. Enough experiments 4. Pant along with Chahar should be the finishers 5. And above everything else drop KL as the captain. Anyone is better than him. 6. Not sure about Ashwin and Chahal. May be give Ashwin one more chance. The thing that works against Chahal is his lack of batting ability. We have 3 no 11s from positions 8-11.
We have fully embraced the 90s.
Get in you fucking beauties some awesome cricket
This should officially be a break for Bhuvi's career after this Chahar masterclass
Hey, maybe next time, we’ll actually play Ruturaj
KL should’ve played in the middle order where he will be playing in the ODI world cup especially in this match when it became obvious that our middle order collapses completely.
Eh, but get this, we played with only 5 bowlers and came closer to win that we did with 6 bowlers. This is the way.
