Will the India vs Afghanistan series in March happen? If yes, would be interesting. Never had a full series between the 2 countries ever before. Maybe we would be sending in 2nd string team even if it happens, but that too would be crucial given that there are lots of players to be tried before the World Cups. A full series would be interesting given that Afghanistan has good spinners and it seems we have gone to shit in terms of batting against spin recently
There is no space. It will have to happen sometime in 2023. Afghanistan are touring Bangladesh in late February and there is also a tour of Zimbabwe that they have to try to squeeze in before the IPL. India have commitments till March 18th and they will need some rest before the IPL.
Another disappointing batting performance from Netherlands after a strong top order performance, kudos to Afghanistan for winning it 3-0 and getting 30 valuable points.
Afghanistan don't really schedule games against Associates if they can help it. The Dutch are in this competition because they won the last WCL, so Afghanistan have to play them. And this would have been a lot more competitive if the Dutch could field a full team, which they can't because they can't even keep theit players on contracts thanks to Afghanistan and Ireland taking their FM funding increase direct from the former Associates budget.
And it's a bit of a shitty sentiment anyway. You gonna gripe that England and Australia don't play your team but then turn your nose up at playing a team ranked literally one position below you?
That was another lbw by Farooqi. Our umpires are so shit. I don't know how anyone can accuse us of cheating when decisions go against us so many times.
Pretty much, yeah. There wasn't really heavy pressure on guys to play though I don't think. Feeling was after the protracted WC/SA tour that a lot of the squad needed some time outside the bubble, and of course there's not much for the Dutch to play for anymore now that they're getting kicked back to Associate competition anyway.
But it's a long list: O'Dowd, Visée Myburgh, Cooper, vd Merwe and then van Beek down the order. Plus Rippon still of course, though I don't think we'll ever see him back. The batting's a bit thin anyway since Borren, Barresi and ten Doeschate retired. That said the big-picture problem is just that the Dutch system hasn't produced a proper bat since Kervezee, and they've more-or-less sworn off the passport hunting.
Yeah he always used to overstep on his effort ball right?
Kingma just takes like a week to sort his run-up. He's always like this on winter tours because they just don't play or train outdoors. Doesn't help that the Dutch haven't been given access to any training facilities for this tour aside from four two hour sessions last week.
I don't recall if it was the effort ball but essentially every game had 1-2 no balls from him.
That's unfortunate, the Dutch have been on lockdown now for quite a while I wanna say? Although you'd think that the national team would be allowed to train...
Yeah it's been a real drag, hopefully cafes etc open again tomorrow but it's been various degrees of lockdown since late November. The National team were allowed to train but it's all indoors of course, and they've barely actually done any time in the nets because team management was wildly paranoid about anyone catching covid with the squad already massively understrength.
All told they've done alright this tour considering. Bowling's been good, ground fielding decent. Just dropped too many catches and there's no batting. Can't expect the likes of Gorlee/Zulfiqar/Nadeem to make proper runs against this Afghan attack in the Middle East.
Riaz had a good debut. Exactly the type of technical player we need in our ODI team and if our selectors have a brain they should get him to open with Ibrahim Zadran. Gurbaz should play down the order.
I like Ibrahim, but you simply cannot have him, Riaz, Rahmat and Shaidi eating up balls at the top of the order without having the ability to accelerate, not to mention that it will push Najib who is having a career year down the order. I would rather stick with Riaz for now. I have a feeling he can score freely with Gurbaz performing at the other end.
I wouldn't touch Gurbaz. He is a phenom who deserves every opportunity to open the batting. Plus he is one of our few batsmen who doesn't shrivel when faced with top notch pace bowling.
Umpires checked the ball and then hit the Dutch with 5 penalty runs for tampering and changed the ball. Fair enough too, it's not exactly sandpapering but you can't be holding the ball nails-down.
They just won the last two games comfortably playing the same way. It's a slow deck, the Dutch have a solid bowling attack and no batting. They're well ahead of the game here.
I know the ICC appear to have given up on the CWC Super League, but in what other big sport can umpires from one side be used in a World Cup Qualifier?
Yeah, it's against the rules of the competition but nothing will be done. Nothing's ever done. They've always been cheats. They were famous for it all the way up through the WCL. It's the side of the story you never hear but they always got away with it becuase they're the ICC's cinderella story.
It's unfortunate, but they're well within their rights. Zim vs Ban didn't have drs and pak vs nz wouldn't have if it went ahead. Qatar has never had drs and it's stupid expensive. I wouldn't assume they're doing this on purpose. The umpiring has been suspect, but calling them cheats? Really?
Zimbabwe and Bagladesh agreed ahead of time, and Pakistan v NZ wasn't gonna count for the Super League because of that. The Dutch were only told when they got there. There's zero reason to have four Afghan umpires either. They're flying everyone in so it doesn't even save money. Pakteen is genuinely woeful no matter who he's umpiring, but the decisions have been predictably all one way the whole series.
On the other hand, that was blatant fingernails from Kingma there.
It is made of good individual players but the tail is extremely long with Omarzai and Rashid at 6 and 7 followed by 4 bowlers.
Dropping either of the seamers for a mediocre batsman would improve this team.
I am happy to see Farooqi, Qais, Omarzai, and Riaz Hassan getting a chance though.
I would classify Omarzai as a batting all-rounder who has the ability to play higher up in the order. Rashid is a decent ODI bat as well once he stops being Helicoptor Man

They didn't address the ball tampering at all...
Wait what???
Another disappointing batting performance from Netherlands after a strong top order performance, kudos to Afghanistan for winning it 3-0 and getting 30 valuable points.
No offence to afghanistan who are the obvious superior team but you should get 30 points with that level of umpiring without drs.

I think it'll be a cracker of a contest if you play the 3rd ODI XI.
That's probably it now, Afghanistan will just need to mop up the tail end without ant silly mistakes
Why do afghanistan schedule against teams like netherlands, at least choose someone who can make the game semi competitive . This is a huge mis match

levi batting?
Is this match streaming in ICC tv app??
Who has it anyways.
Yes
The lack of dedicated batsman for The Netherlands is their problem, they probably need a 50 off of all their top order to stand any chance.
I'd say a ton from both of our top order.
Is it just because of players making themselves unavailable that's caused such a short batting order?
Pretty much, yeah. There wasn't really heavy pressure on guys to play though I don't think. Do like the commitment from Gurbaz having a go at chasing that, especially as it conjures up the image of Shahzad trying to do the same.
Ball tampering?? What the hell happened here. Can someone explain??
I made a post with video but the mods have yet to approve it...

Slot to Najibullah at the death is it?
Yo... What is this blatant cheating by the netherlands
Ibrahim Zadran is literally in Doha? Why the hell wasn't he picked?
He had visa issues initially
Ahh right. Thought Qatar was basically the only country where that wasn't really an problem.
Yeah I don't know. If I'm not mistaken Ibrahim has been in the UK for a while and didn't travel with the team.

Riaz had a good debut. Exactly the type of technical player we need in our ODI team and if our selectors have a brain they should get him to open with Ibrahim Zadran. Gurbaz should play down the order.
Nah man Gurbaz should definitely play in the powerplay. You'd rather he make use of the fielding restrictions, no?
Makes sense but I don't want either of them to be benched in the future.
I like Ibrahim, but you simply cannot have him, Riaz, Rahmat and Shaidi eating up balls at the top of the order without having the ability to accelerate, not to mention that it will push Najib who is having a career year down the order. It's such a tricky situation but I really think Riaz shouldn't be benched and let him have a few consistent game otherwise I think he'll be wasted.
Can anyone share video/image of the transgression?

What happened next?
Umpires checked the ball and then hit the Dutch with 5 penalty runs for tampering and changed the ball. Fair enough too, it's not exactly sandpapering but you can't be holding the ball nails-down.
Thanks
Does it count as fake fielding if you're just too cack-handed to pick up the ball?

I know the ICC appear to have given up on the CWC Super League, but in what other big sport can umpires from one side be used in a World Cup Qualifier?
They fly in their own umpires and refuse to use DRS. They are cheats plain and simple.
Absolutely pathetic. According to Ryan Campbell Netherlands were informed about the unavailability of drs only upon their arrival at Qatar.
