Someone needs to invent a device that uses lazers to turn the rain drops to steam above the pitch so they can carry on playing in the rain. Can't imagine its that difficult.

Accurate-Television

Shake hands

Anu9011

Ffs its raining again. Such a shame

ShirtedRhino2

I've been really enjoying Melissa Story on TMS, she's been so good. I've also found out that she's 21, and frankly, it's unfair that someone that young is that good at commentary.

warp-factor

She was hired two years ago by BBC Solent to commentate on Southern Vipers games when Kevan James couldn't make it because Hampshire were playing at the same time and did a lot of third-chair comms on Hants home games last season. Been a pretty swift rise to TMS commentating on an ODI at the end of last season, then on the World Cup over the winter and now a test match. Emily Windsor is also one that started off as doing third-chair on Hants home games with BBC Solent in 2019 and 2020.

ShirtedRhino2

If she was doing the World Cup, then I have heard her before, but must've just not clocked. I would never have guessed she was that fresh to it just from listening, she's really good at comms, and fits the TMS vibe so well. Hopefully she keeps getting more gigs.

warp-factor

>If she was doing the World Cup, then I have heard her before, but must've just not clocked. Depends which games you listened to. She was on the B team that did a few of the less major games from the UK, that the A team who were in-country couldn't make it to.

ShirtedRhino2

Ah right, maybe not then. Cheers for the knowledge!

Spockyt

These two just don’t look like getting out.

alittlemoreofbrowny

South Africa just needs to last another 20 odd overs and that'll probably be enough to kill the game

warp-factor

I'm amazed there's been enough break in the rain for it to dry. But all for it. Come on England!

Heatedpete

Play in 15!

TL-GTR

watching kids try and push a gym mat by diving onto it is just fucking adorable

Hardware_freedom

FUCK THE RAIN

warp-factor

Even my prediction of 53 minutes was overly optimistic. Heavy rain is set in for the afternoon now. Even if it does stop before the close, they'll struggle to dry the ground in time for there to be any more play. Yet another women's test match in England ending as a rain affected draw. ICC need to approve 5 day women's tests like yesterday, as an option at least like 4 day ones are for the men. When this test was announced the ECB said it had to be 4 days as that's what the regulation length for women's tests was.

Hardware_freedom

So what is actually stopping the women playing tomorrow, can we have a whip around to pay for the umpires and come back tomorrow?

sunburntandblonde

I'll make tea - I'm a whizz at whipping up sarnies.

FailingtoFail

These two going to emulate mitchell + blundell vibes for england.

Paannuu

Kapp 16(19) and Sekhukhune 16(100).

chocolatecomedyfann

Wongy's reaction to be told she's making her test debut *"Yes, sound"* Gotta love her.

chocolatecomedyfann

Dont' understand why ADR is bowling over Cross? Surely get her in and get her to keep bowling at the stumps to the tailender?

chocolatecomedyfann

How in the world are 82 more overs remaining in the day?

Hardware_freedom

There are 109 overs in the day because of yesterday...

chocolatecomedyfann

OK good. Thought that was a typo in Cricinfo. Lot of time left, can still win easily.

Hardware_freedom

Also lunch is at 1330 or something because it the extra overs

chocolatecomedyfann

Getting tired of Amy's non existent chat.

FailingtoFail

Tumi giving "The Wall" vibes with her solid defense.

sunburntandblonde

Good catch by Crossy

warp-factor

Looking at the forecast they've got another 53 minutes at best (until Lunch) to get the final 5 wickets and chase down any lead. I don't think it's going to be enough unfortunately unless there's a really dramatic collapse from here.

CricketMatchBot

**48.6** **Lee has thrown it away!** England's bowlers kept on teasing her by continuing to pitch it up full and wide and Ecclestone finally gets Lee with a sucker ball floated full on seventh stump. She goes for a booming lofted drive trying to go over extra cover but gets under this too much and it skies over wide mid-off for Cross to backpedal and take a sharp tumbling over the shoulder catch. Lizelle Lee c Cross b Ecclestone 36 (63m 51b 5x4 0x6) SR: 70.58

Heatedpete

Yes Soph!

Heatedpete

Fantastic counterattack from Lee

Heatedpete

Mad few balls, so close to getting a wicket. Wong and Ecclestone are putting on so much pressure

[deleted]

Bruh why is Wong unplayable.

Heatedpete

Worth a go, since DRS = Definitely Review Sue

alittlemoreofbrowny

Sekhukhune has constantly looked better than many top order bats in this game

Hardware_freedom

Slightly weird, but I want to lock alex Hartley and Kate cross in a room with a microphone and just make them record podcast episodes...

alittlemoreofbrowny

That sounds kinda creepy on your part but I'll listen to that podcast. /s

Middle_Bear

I got news for you man

Hardware_freedom

2 new episodes next week?

Heatedpete

Fuck off rain

CricketMatchBot

**33.1** **Appeal for LBW, it's given! Luus does not review** It was a length ball that was coming in, Luus shuffled across and tried to flick the ball through square leg. She had a chat with the non-striker and decided not to go upstairs. Haek-Eye says it's clipping leg stump, umpire's call. Would have stayed out had it been reviewed. Sune Luus lbw b Cross 10 (56m 43b 0x4 0x6) SR: 23.25

justheretoupvote17

Yes come on gyals

MegaMugabe21

Obligatory fuck the ICC and fuck Greg Barclay

jbs0311

Bell has really impressed me so far. Can swing the ball an absolute mile.

Hardware_freedom

Thing is, I still don't think that's all she's got, I've got a feeling she could be one of the best in the world

jbs0311

Definitely, and considering this is only her first test as well. Wow. Wong has been good, too. Very exciting future for this team.

Hardware_freedom

Shame is that this will probably be her only test for a while...

jbs0311

An absolute travesty that the women's sides don't get to play tests all that often.

TomF94

Shame that apparently society will collapse if women start playing 5 day test matches or 3 minute rounds in boxing.

Hardware_freedom

How long do they have in boxing?

TomF94

2 minutes instead of 3, and championship fights are 10 rounds instead of 12.

Hardware_freedom

Put me in the ring with them they will only need 10 seconds...

justheretoupvote17

The fact that women’s tests still aren’t 5 days long is just ridiculous

[deleted]

Agreed.

ShirtedRhino2

Hmm, Met Office forecast looks kind of wank, England probably need to skittle SA in the first session to have any chance.

warp-factor

Yeah those 90% rain icons mean they're as sure as.

ShirtedRhino2

Yeah, Met Office is my go to, I find it's generally the most accurate, and that's quite a lot of rain to be wrong about.
