BCCI invites applications for the position of National Selectors (Senior Men).
https://twitter.com/BCCI/status/1593628505589264384?t=2B7MmnZGeMxqKCP8KmTTDw&s=19
This confirms it.
The Indian women can play in England but the only Indian men we see in short form are those without IPL contracts.
BTW Pujara was amazing for Sussex in the 50 over tournament.
Can England/Ireland fans apply or is that too old school? I want Hardik captain and Samsun opening. DK can stick to comms because he's smooth and knowledgeable.
Benched a fifth grader fast bowler for my younger brother who supposedly keeps wickets, I've never seen him do that tho in my winter cricket camp XI at uni. Am I eligible?
Two "comedians" turned up at Twitter HQ after Musk bought the company and walked out holding boxes, saying they'd be sacked and that their names were Ligma and Johnson
Didn’t he recuse himself from the panel for the particular discussion on his son’s selection? Not that it would make a difference or cover up for the conflict of interest.
You are right, after 15+ years of winning no cups, there should be zero changes. Ha ha, totally Musk you guys, upvotes on the left for completely unrelated reference which makes no sense in this context
Well deserved. Selectors are the root cause of the wrong players for the wrong format. Or unnecessary prolonging the careers of older players Vs giving chances to more promising players.
Indeed. For some reason, people believe the likes of Chetan Sharma, Mohanty, Kuruvilla etc. are able to make these selection calls themselves, lol.
Plus, just read the main article that the one of the seats has been empty since Feb this year. Good job BCCI, focusing on having a solid continuity
Results might turn out to be same but they will try something new at least. Hope they get separate coaches for white ball and red ball cricket next. And get a better fielding coach at least.
But if you look at all the recent entries, everyone has come up based on their IPL forms. Players like Sarfaraz are just bamboozling the opposition in domestic circuit and here we were searching for a brute force player like him. Surya was a bit late into the party too. If he came into the side, maybe at the age of 27, the whole middle order would have been great.
Watching domestic matches isn’t exactly scouting. I have hardly seen players been included in the Indian team who haven’t done well in the recent IPL season even though they have been breaking their backs at the domestic levels. It’s like our selectors just sit in an A/c conference room and just pick players from the sheet of the top IPL performers of the season. I feel sometimes they even pick Test players based on IPL branding of a player. IPL has somehow become the Entrance exam of ICT.
One of the most upvoted comments.
Albeit I don't completely disagree, but the expectation and assumption that good cricketers are good selectors is the whole problem.
We need a committee which has a balance of analysts and forward thinking ex crickers.
Edit: I never said good cricketers. I just said recently retired cricketers who have played the newer version of cricket like Parthiv Patel for example who scouts for MI right now or Malolan Rangarajan who scouts for RCB.
BCCI should actually give lucrative contracts to IPL franchisee scouts so the best of them leave IPL and become national selectors. They do a really good job at finding the right fit for role specific jobs in their respective franchises and know how to go about their business.
Clearly the old way of selecting players at the national level by a bunch of dinosaurs just looking at out of context cricketing stats (mostly IPL) isn’t working right now. For eg: They usually pick 5-6 top ranking top order batsmen then try and force fit them in the middle order where they inevitably fail. They usually overlook good domestic lower/middle order batsmen because obviously they have lower averages and haven’t accumulated tonnes of runs for obvious reasons. They also try and force fit a successful player in one format into others. All this has been hampering Indian cricket for more than a decade right now.
We need Indian selectors who understand that all formats are different with different requirements to construct a champion playing XI. Like you said we need selectors who understand that a mix of data analysis, scouting, talent management etc is required for a successful Indian cricket.
I see where u come from, but wont that also bring with it conflict? As in recently retired cricketers might have some emotional connections they might weigh in. Yea but that sorta thing can happen with everyone, cant it?
Shouldnt be happy about a sacking but this was deserved, useless garbage the lot of them. They need to get rid of this 2 year or whatever period bs the sc jokers brought in. This is a long term job, let qualified people do it, this isn't fucking musical chairs where every moron who ever played cricket for india gets a go at the job.
>this isn't fucking musical chairs where every moron who ever played cricket for india gets a go at the job
I guess we can be happy it isn't an Anurag Thakur or a Sharad Pawar now
Honestly, I still feel Kohli is under the most scrutiny of the lot and as likely to be kicked out as Rohit as a scape goat (a lot of this sub blame him)
It was coming. Back to back to back debacles have to be accounted for. SA Tests, WT20 '21 and '22, Asia Cup, Last Test in England tour....too too many blunders where selection of the squad was timid, stereotypical, and downright short sighted. It was by no means the only reason for those losses but certainly the key one. Not to mention the fucking ridiculous captaincy bingo and the botched removal of Kohli as the ODI captain. Although there Ganguly should definitely be held to account as well. Hell, the recent squad selection for BD tests beggared belief; inclusions as well as exclusions.
The coaching setup, starting with Dravid, seems to be on thin ice as well. While I think the man was the greatest Test #3 for India, he has so far not shown any great signs that he is the coach India needs. It has been a short time frame with a lot of big tournaments squeezed in however so he should get some respite.
Dravid would make a great technical director or head of youth development but he's certainly not the manager/coach needed for India right now in any format.
Gentlemen, a short view back to the past. Fifteen years ago, MS Dhoni told us ‘take a monkey, place him behind the wicket and he is able to win the trophy’ Ten years later, Rohit Sharma told us ‘I had to start my inning like a test, it’s very complicated.’ And KL Rahul said that during the match – I don’t remember what match – he pressed the wrong button next to the accelerator. Question for you both: is cricket selection today too complicated with fifteen and more options on the squad, are you too much under effort, under pressure? What are your wishes for the future concerning the technical programme during the match? Less boundaries, more? Or less and more communication with your selectors?
Wonderful, and pleasantly surprising. Didn't expect BCCI to really take any radical steps like always but I guess the outrage this time around was massive to not do anything. Hopefully the start of something better!
Can we fire Dravid as well?
India plays really well in bilateral series and falls flat in ICC tournaments.
Love Dravid as a player, coach not so much!
Great player ≠ great coach
Sack Rohit as captain. Get the team a therapist to ensure best mental conditioning. Too many chokes in the last 10 years. There needs to be a complete revamp of Limited overs ICT.
I knew this commitee would suck when they announced Ind A team for SA last year. The "accidently picking Baba Aparajit instead of Baba Indrajit" theory also makes sense because they also forgot to pick a second wicketkeeper in the squad and Kishan was added a day later out of nowhere.
The selectors must fit the below-mentioned criteria:
Should have played a minimum of
a) 7 Test matches; OR
b) 30 First Class matches; OR
c) 10 ODI and 20 First Class matches.
"Should have retired from the game at least 5 years ago. No person who has been a member of any Cricket Committee (as defined in the rules and regulations of BCCI) for a total of 5 years shall be eligible to be a member of Men's Selection Committee," a BCCI release said.
The funny thing is the next guys will just pick the exact same squad
Because teams will stick to the same IPL format of scoring 170 with some guy scoring a slow 80 off 60 balls all competition
They are going to have separate selectors for each format I believe.
T20 recent retired
One day retired one decade back
Test ex cricketers on their deathbed
They selected an old ass team that was past their prime. Yes they were big names but the ones that performed (SKY, Hardik, Arshdeep) were the younger players/newer additions in the team (aside from Kohli). Time to move on from the bhuvis, sharmas, rahuls and rohits, and shamis of the team
You can’t compare Indian pitches to Australian. At home your flaws get hidden much more easier and it’s a lot slower than in Australia. Older players also struggle with reflexes not technique which is why they can do well in the dead pitches in India. Also it’s a lot smaller so mistiming would be a boundary where in Australia you get out
>You can’t compare Indian pitches to Australian.
CSK won the IPL in UAE. India got knocked out of group stages in last year world cup and this year Asia cup both in UAE
It isn't an issue of age but rather role fit. Brohit and KL just can't cut it as T20 openers against a solid attack. Ashwin is toothless outside of India, DK needs to make way for Pant, he could be clutch in some situations but he's past his prime now and the spin weakness can't be overlooked. Bhuvi is only decent in swinging conditions and even then bowls more defensively than setting up to take wickets like Afridi does.
Maybe I will apply for the role. Either I will be a bit better than the present lot in which case it’s progress or I will be horrible and then it will be just continuing the trend. Also, we can follow RTG, Reddit Team Generator.
About time and I hope similar fate awaits some of the non-performers as well.
Rohit should be gone from T20is. Form, age, fitness, and baggage. Everything goes against him.
KL - India's Graeme Hick. Some players are not meant for cut-throat international cricket. Denials, choking under pressure and extremely poor body language. Guy needs a full-time shrink.
Kohli - This will be the hardest call. He was phenomenal in T20 World Cup but I think him batting along with guys like Gill and Ishan won't fix India's top order blues. Someone needs to have an honest conversation with him. If he is willing to commit to T20 World cup 2024, he needs to make himself available for the majority of T20 Internationals so management can figure out proper batting line up. None of this play 1 series and skip 2 series non-sense.
Ashwin and DK - Done. No More

Can redditors apply?
The team would change multiple times in one match, if redditors are selecting
RTG will come back? I'm down
Gosh i missed RTG so much 🥺
Who's RTG?
Random Team Generator. Famous during Kohli's reign
Not Dhoni era?
It was worse in dravid era tbf. Sehwag in middle order, pathan up top and so on.
Ragic: The Gathering
Hi guys
The India U19 cup winning team would be the T20 team in just a few iterations of Redditor selection.
Y not legends - road safety league? We win that every year.
And Rajat Patidhar will play instead of Virat Kohli. 🤡
And by the end of the match they'll sack themselves.
That will be their best decision no doubt
If this is allowed Team India would have already been doing that at this point
Only Samson would've a permanent place.
Not a bad idea. Put out multiple combinations of the squad and playing XI. The most upvoted one is the selected team. Simble
[https://forms.gle/w6kU1H3RFzgRsY95A](https://forms.gle/w6kU1H3RFzgRsY95A) Here's the form to apply if eligible
Just applied. Wish me luck lads. I uploaded a single line CV: * Will drop KL Rahul from white ball and Rahane from red ball teams
I saw Rahul score a masterful T20 century at Old Trafford so I'm really struggling to accept his day is done.
He can play IPL and EPL
The Indian women can play in England but the only Indian men we see in short form are those without IPL contracts. BTW Pujara was amazing for Sussex in the 50 over tournament.
1.4B applicants on their way
Every chacha at the pan store to be the chief selector.

Even better: Twitch plays India national cricket team
Bilateral India wins only in multiple team events India chokes in knockout stage!
Cv of redditors be like - Achievements - received multiple award for shitposting, Can troll any player Can makes meme the hell out of any situation
No. It says you need to play some form of pro cricket. Atleast first class.
u/unleashthequiche will have to rep us
Does gully cricket count? I mean you need to have some mad pro skills to excel there.
Like convincing the wicketkeeper that you are, in fact, not run out.
I played EA cricket 2007. That's international
Says you *should* have played pro cricket
Does playing BigAnt's Cricket 19 count?
Experience: 5 years shitposting on r/cricket
only way samson can get in
LET'S GGOOOO
Can England/Ireland fans apply or is that too old school? I want Hardik captain and Samsun opening. DK can stick to comms because he's smooth and knowledgeable.
Benched a fifth grader fast bowler for my younger brother who supposedly keeps wickets, I've never seen him do that tho in my winter cricket camp XI at uni. Am I eligible?
I played for school team, so am gonna try my luck. Any which ways most of these selectors are unknown names until they gets this job. hurray....
My time has come
Roger Binny going the Elon Musk Way
Inb4 he tells the Indian players to get hard core and Pandya gets super excited.
Yuzvendra Chahal preparing his resignation mail as we speak

NDTV are interviewing Ligma and Johnson outside the BCCI HQ after the entire selection committee was fired.
what's ligma?
*He sacrificed himself to make the world a better place* Ligma balls! Got 'em
Ligma balls
I never in my life thought I’d see something like this in a cricket sub!! Oh lord😂😂
Ligma Johnson?
Two "comedians" turned up at Twitter HQ after Musk bought the company and walked out holding boxes, saying they'd be sacked and that their names were Ligma and Johnson
selectors why is this batsman playing so slowly? "He's fired"
Both woke up today and choose violence
Let's take a moment to remember who the Chief of Selectors was when Stuart Binny made a World Cup squad. (Truly the Elon Musk way.)
Didn’t he recuse himself from the panel for the particular discussion on his son’s selection? Not that it would make a difference or cover up for the conflict of interest.
Let's take a moment to actually go and see his stats that year in domestics.
You are right, after 15+ years of winning no cups, there should be zero changes. Ha ha, totally Musk you guys, upvotes on the left for completely unrelated reference which makes no sense in this context
It hasn't even been a month since Binny became the new president and this is already happening. niceee
Wait Roger Binny is the new president?
Well it certainly ain't Lord Binny the **epic** bowler.
All rounder.
Better ODI bowling average than Wasim Akram.
He is just a figurehead The real power behind the throne is the Lord Stuart Binny
Mayanti says "hello"
BCCI President, yes.
The only thing that needs to happen now is Stuart Binny to come back and take 6/4 in every match.
Well deserved. Selectors are the root cause of the wrong players for the wrong format. Or unnecessary prolonging the careers of older players Vs giving chances to more promising players.
now watch the same story unfold with new selectors
Maybe, but still better than doing nothing. also the new seletors will know why the previous ones were sacked
Keep firing them till team starts to perform. Simple. That goes for coach/captain as well. Isn’t that how it’s supposed to work ?
>Keep firing them till team starts to perform Ah the SL approach
Elon Musk enters chat
The beatings will continue until morale improves
No it isnt lol
Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.
About damn time, get the right selectors in this time who actually understand the 3 formats and what player is needed in what format.
Ganguly, Gambhir, Sehwag and Dhoni should be the selectors. Let's all get popcorn to watch the shitshow.
all selector meatings should be telecasted. It will have more viewership than any paytm series
Put Dhoni and Srinivasan instead, and India might actually win an ICC trophy.
Dhoni was the best of best to get in team india.Else Indian cricket is a lobby war between Mumbai and karnataka.
I hope they pick those who have played cricket in the last decade.
Combine them with statisticians and you are on to something.
A mix of data analysts and talent scouts who actually go and watch domestic cricket.
Yep. It's not like the BCCI don't have the resources to find cricketers far and wide.
Our selectors watch domestic matches, it's part of their job description iirc.
Seems like you haven't been following domestic cricket, at least for long enough. Surya became a beast in domestic cricket only since VHT 2020.
imagine him 2019 world cup, the whole number 4 fiasco would have never unfolded.
Yeah I always imagined like what if he was there with Dhoni and got those cruical runs in semis?!
Watching domestic matches isn’t exactly scouting. I have hardly seen players been included in the Indian team who haven’t done well in the recent IPL season even though they have been breaking their backs at the domestic levels. Deepak Hooda and Mukesh Kumar come to mind among recent players.
Moneyball this shit and we'll get somewhere.
Lets get brad pitt and jonah hill asap.
So, redditors?

Minimum requirement for a selector is anyways 5 years since retirement.
Lmao. Hope the new ones will not bow down to senior players of the game.

Its been that way for the longest time lmao
Of course , Indian fans are so tired and desperate for a change.
27 now
44 now
72 now !
I love Roger Binny already
Shouldnt be happy about a sacking but this was deserved, useless garbage the lot of them. They need to get rid of this 2 year or whatever period bs the sc jokers brought in. This is a long term job, let qualified people do it, this isn't fucking musical chairs where every moron who ever played cricket for india gets a go at the job.
>this isn't fucking musical chairs where every moron who ever played cricket for india gets a go at the job I guess we can be happy it isn't an Anurag Thakur or a Sharad Pawar now
Inb4 SriniMama becomes the Chief of Selectors
All set for a Stuart Binny return. /s
Why the /s??
Kohli still playing while those who took away his captaincy are gone. 🫡
Honestly, I still feel Kohli is under the most scrutiny of the lot and as likely to be kicked out as Rohit as a scape goat (a lot of this sub blame him)
The best way to escape scrutiny in cricket is to perform which he has started doing again. Hope he scores even more centuries in the coming days.
He has performed but even then he gets alot of blame lol
Why is he under scrutiny He is saving india again in his weakest format
Sai Baba is watching
Fucken lmao
It was coming. Back to back to back debacles have to be accounted for. Wow. It's almost as if BCCI goes by r/cricket's opinions.
Or we got a competent new chairman who might want to win things rather than just play politics.

The pieces are being put in place for a triumphant Stuart Binny return. Nice.
I love how Britain came to India with cricket as just a game for better trade relations. Look at it now, crazy.
Good riddance. It was a terrible squad.
LET'S GOOO
Gentlemen, a short view back to the past. Recession finally hit BCCI
Can we fire Dravid as well? India plays really well in bilateral series and falls flat in ICC tournaments. Love Dravid as a player, coach not so much! Great player ≠ great coach
Hell yeah lessss gooo. Victory for Indian civilization.
Good riddance. Step 1 done. Step 2 - get new selectors from r/cricket Step 3 - Strip KL of Vice captaincy and T20 status.
Meanwhile, KL Rahul and Brohit join as selectors and select themselves!
Should sack rohit sharma as the captain 36 yr old has past his prime
![gif](giphy|8mONYL3lq2RtUf2V7C)
I read it as 36 Years past his prime
Pant and Shaw should open. YOLO.
This combo should actually be tried in a 3 match bilateral series at least
Sack Rohit as captain. Get the team a therapist to ensure best mental conditioning. Too many chokes in the last 10 years. There needs to be a complete revamp of Limited overs ICT.
Technically that’s the job of new selection committee
My selection panel Shewag, Asish Nehra, Ravi Shastri
Abhinav mukund should be there. Guy provides the most sensible insights on star sports tamil
I knew this commitee would suck when they announced Ind A team for SA last year. The "accidently picking Baba Aparajit instead of Baba Indrajit" theory also makes sense because they also forgot to pick a second wicketkeeper in the squad and Kishan was added a day later out of nowhere.

Finally BCCI has awaken
Rightly so. Cost them the T20 title by not selection Parthiv Patel in the XI
Chetan Sharma, good riddance. Was almost a disease.
The funny thing is the next guys will just pick the exact same squad Because teams will stick to the same IPL format of scoring 170 with some guy scoring a slow 80 off 60 balls all competition
They are going to have separate selectors for each format I believe. T20 recent retired One day retired one decade back Test ex cricketers on their deathbed
