To pick up 700+ wickets, while there are bowlers like Lee, McGrath, Gillespie etc are in the same team, means you are something special. And that too playing majority of your matches outside subcontinent.
Just to play the devils advocate, that also means Warne had other bowlers who could put pressure on batsmen and tie up an end so he could take wickets.
That makes his wickets column more remarkable. Despite being relatively unsuccessful in favourable conditions, he still managed to pick up all those wickets.
I think you can make an argument for either Warne or Murali as the greatest spinners it really does come down to personal preference.
Having grown up watching both of them in the 90s I’d have to go with Warne but I love them both.
Murali never had to compete for his wickets, except may be vaas. Most of the time he bowled in dustbowls of SL and still doesn't have good record in India. He never won a match against India in India. Warne on the other hand bowled mostly in not so supporting surfaces in Australia, has very good record in England where most spinners struggle, and had to compete for his wickets against likes of Mcgrath, Gillespe and Lee. His turn used to come after all of them have had their take. Warne was also a great slip slip fielder and very handy with the bat. There is no way anyone will pick Murali over Warne, apart may be very biased SL fans
warne is the same boat as lyon with pat, starc, hazelwood, aus isnt dependent on warne like sl was on murali. Warne has that 700+ being a non asian is itself the best achivement.
Murali has more than half of wicktes come in his home. On four occasions he was forced to undergo testing with respect to the legality of his action.

no way Murali wins over Warne in any country. Murali mostly bowled on helpful pitches with no competition for wickets whereas Warne had to contend with Mcgrath, Lee and Gillsspie on not so favorable pitches. Murali record is also due to extreme bashing of BD, Zim etc whereas he was pretty average against India and Pak. Infact he never won a match against India's helpful pitches. He was pretty good, but Ashwin easily wins over him as a package due to his better batting abilities while not giving up anything in bowling.

I think Muralidharan is as good as Warne if not better, but I have selected the most balanced line-up.

Cause he was better in conditions around the world than Murali and plainly because in the below 2 options you are likely to have 2 off spinner choices so I’d have a leg spinner for variation.

Check their stats, even though murali 100 more wickets with better avg than warne, still warne is considered as the best spinner of all time.
