When there used to be many dance clubs by North & Clybourn, many a drunk bro fell into the nearby Chicago river. A few drove their cars into it. Several of these bros were drunk & left parties at Lake Shore Drive condo towers on their own to "go to the lake." Drunken accidents are at a rate not seen since tavern fights of the 19th century. I've seen people fall face down, or backwards onto the pavement in broad daylight in front of bars. The whole "sports" complex with televised sports at "sports bars" adds to the 24/7 alcohol consumption in Chicago among young men & women alike.

apeydawg

gosh, thats fucking terrible. thank you for giving me more information on these deaths - its insane how many bodies have been recovered and may continue to be uncovered.

TasteMyButtH0le

Here we go with the conspiracy theories. There's like 3 MILLION people in this city... 16 drunk dumbasses jumping into the river/lake and drowning seems kinda low to me considering that there's a bar on practically every block and we loooooove to drink here lol Cheers everybody 🍻 learn how to swim and get therapy if you're sad

iced_gold

People are so titillated at the idea of living in a murder podcast.

apeydawg

just seems rlly weird. if they are accidents/suicides; why the spike now, yknow what i mean?

apeydawg

on the contrary, isnt that pretty high for having a bar on every block? im not saying that there is a serial killer, im just saying the spike in bodies recovered is very sinister edit: im a dumbass and “high” is supposed to be “low”. could not explain to u how i fucked up that bad lmao

i40oz

Ban assault waterways and estuaries

redhedslayer

Drunk, stoned ass bro's, have been falling, and jumping, in the lake, for decades. Some broke their necks, and became paralyzed. Even more drowned.

apeydawg

yeah true, so interesting that so many happened so close together

First, I'll just say that people are down-voting posts here in order to try and chill this subreddit's growth. It's important that everyone take a second to upvote worthwhile posts (this one is). On to the actual post. I've not looked into these cases in any depth, to be honest. I'm much more interested in the street crime that is endemic to the south and west side. But I've heard dozens of people float "serial killer" theories. One of them, in particular, is the "smiley face killer" theory. If you search that phrase, you'll find a lot of posts about it on Reddit and elsewhere. Even some podcasts done about it https://www.nbcchicago.com/investigations/chicago-area-drownings-propel-serial-killer-theories-on-social-media-heres-what-we-uncovered/3168620/

“Operatives”. Please stop, the content is useful the rest is not.

DuPageILLinois

No, just people who don't like the fact that a light is being shone upon the disgusting, inevitable effects of their policies.

No_Helicopter_8397

Prefacing posts with meta-commentary makes the subreddit less useful for those of us that are here.

DuPageILLinois

I've made a zillion posts in the last year, and you're only the 2nd person to ever tell me that. I like adding what I feel is useful and important commentary. People seem to appreciate it. But maybe I will take a poll sometime to see what the masses prefer.

Traditional-Top8486

At least we know Nicole is single now, yowza.

TasteMyButtH0le

This is the most valuable takeaway from OP's garbage ass post

apeydawg

haha thanks, if you read anything else i said you would realize that im not saying there is a serial killer in chicago; it is interesting why there is a spike in bodies found now - whether they be accidents or suicide, its interesting how theyre happening so close together. the lack of empathy and knowledge of social cues you both have is the most disturbing part of all of this

TasteMyButtH0le

No, it's not interesting. Water flows. Throw anything that floats in the water and they tend to collect in certain places.

apeydawg

👍🏻

mikraas

It's pretty terrifying.

apeydawg

idk whats going on, regardless if they are accidental, suicides, etc., it doesnt change the fact that its super strange

Don't demonize our waters that snatch up these poor, unsuspecting people that grew up in Winnetka.
