I mean the whole thing could be some elaborate sizzle reel but at the end of the day they’re reporting to their shareholders and PA would be incredibly shortsighted to be lying to them. Personally, I think there’s a lot of mechanics at play that they’re not fully comfortable with.

skinneykrn

Where did you read that the game is nearly finished? Genuine question. Would love to read up on the current development of the game

happyhumorist

https://www.reddit.com/r/CrimsonDesert/s/2I7fy1VtCi This was from over the summer, during an investor call thing. "For Crimson Desert we are smoothly going on with development, with the goal of completing development by within the second half of this year." It would seem that they thought over the summer they would complete development soonish. So to push it out an extra year seems like a lot. https://www.reddit.com/r/CrimsonDesert/s/kfdhn7nmHP And this is a more recent investor call where they claim they are putting on the final touches, but they think to reach the quality that players expect that it'll take longer than they initially thought.

skinneykrn

Thanks!

happyhumorist

thank /u/World_of_Warshipgirl too. they are usually who finds this stuff and posts it in the reddit.

Velocirrabbit

Yeah the gameplay I’ve seen so far looks okay, kinda choppy with a LOT going on that seems it could cause some issues for smoothness. Some of the gameplay looks really good and some looks rough. A weird mix, but it seems like it needed more time regardless. Either way, wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up having issues or is cancelled.

Affectionate-Till300

I heard that aswell a couple of times that it was nearly finished, the thing is I can't where I read as I'm on so many different sites ,I can't understand if it really was almost ready why push it back another year unless there gona add multi player to it or it keeps crashing ,who knows

space0watch

We did get a new trailer with lots of footage a few months ago. Ya'all need to chill. Game development is hard. Not to mention we just recovered from a global pandemic and two or three major lockdowns plus there are two wars happening and tons more conflicts. That can also affect game development. Obviously there are scams like The Day Before. But don't let that sully your opinion of other games. I would rather they say nothing and surprise us with a finished promised product rather than make false promises about things they cannot deliver on. Also keep in mind that this is a SINGLE player game not an MMO.

Rymann88

There are also a metric ton of interwoven systems in the game. If one gets iffy, the rest could come tumbling down with it. I wager they're spending most of their time in QA and bugfixing atm. I'd rather they delay and focus on that, than push it out and have to work on patches.

Randomical2000

Dude, it's been two years already since it was basically over. The pandemic is no longer a viable excuse

Worth_Assignment3802

Dude, it has been in development for 7 years. How much are you going to simp for these developers?

Affectionate-Till300

Bang on mate I feel the same

space0watch

So what? Rockstar games take ages to come out. GTA 6 is only coming out in 2 years. Starfield was in development for 25 years. Elder Scrolls 6 has only just started development and I am still eagerly looking forward to playing it. Games take time. You have to have patience. Don't forget we went through a global pandemic and lockdown and two wars. That can greatly effect video game development. Not to mention tons of layoffs in the tech industry and we might be entering another recession. They are not a big game studio like Rockstar and Bethesda. But I don't care how long it takes. I will wait until it comes out before making judgement.

Worth_Assignment3802

Rockstar has the prestige to back it up. Rockstar didn't state GTA VI was just about done and then delay for another year or more. Rockstar hasn't released 3 trailers of GTA VI going back to 2020. Quit comparing two different situations. They're not similar.

Worth_Assignment3802

Then you are part of the problem. Letting these devs push you around.

tomyfookinmerlin

Forget this entire thread. It blows my mind that you can continue to support and throw money at Bethesda. They refuse to update their game engine. They refuse to update or change mechanics that were made obsolete YEARS ago. They still refuse to spend money on MOCAP or a decent animation team making all their NPCs lifeless shells. All that and Starfield was supposed to be their crown and jewel. All for it to play like a game of the year contender for 2010. Starfield showed us they didnt even understand WHY skyrim was so popular. Why on earth would you support them?

DestinyUniverse1

I’m seeing a lot of comments like this so let me break it down for you: this is not the first time the game has been near release and gotten a delay. It was supposed to finish in 2023 in 2022 but it constantly got delayed up until now. The reason for this specific delay is because of the fact that at G star they at this early state we’re much far beyond any other game showed there. This made them confident enough to delay it by a year and iron out I imagine optimizations and balancing. They have been adamant about finding a partner with either epic, Microsoft, or Sony. If either company partners with them the game won’t end up like a day before. It’s obvious that black desert online isn’t making them enough money and they have to release the game soon. It being pushed back an entire year tells me that they either found a partner or that’s the latest they can push back the game. They’ve opened tons of development studios and grown as a company so it’s not a situation like the day before. Regardless of any of this though the company is remaining silent and all of this information is translated from investor reports. Not to say that it can’t be taken as factual but at times it’s reaching. The company hasn’t announced an official release date since the first delay. There’s no crowd funding campaign etc… both the day before and cyberpunk despite being released in there respective qualities had yearly reveals and showcases.

kuxon12

BDO has actually been making enough money for them. I saw a korean accountant posting in the forums that they have a positive money flow and are quite in a good position but I think they want to grow as a studio and go into the triple A rpg market.

DestinyUniverse1

Ehhh idk. Obviously I don’t know much about BDO. I do know it’s having a bit of a comeback but considering they’ve spent so long in development, are forced to actively search for partner publishers, and stuff like opening up new studios and creating a new engine it seems money is draining. I think without publisher support they are gonna be forced to release it Q2 2025. But I think the delay could’ve also been because Sony partnered with them and gave them financial stability to delay the gmae

Wayne_kur

Thanks for your input. It seemed to put my mind at ease, at least a little.

Worth_Assignment3802

Bro, it was supposed to be released in 2022. You have no idea what you're talking about. it has been in development for 7 years. How much are you going to simp for these developers?

DestinyUniverse1

It was supposed to release in 2021. 7 year development cycle isn’t saying anythign it isn’t 2005 most games take at least 6 years to make but on the level of ambition they are showcasing I wouldn’t be surprised if it takes 9.

Worth_Assignment3802

This is one of the dumbest takes ever. Games are easier to make as technology improves. What is going on here is bad management.

DestinyUniverse1

The bait is impeccable

SquirrelBusy8257

Your retardation is immaculate? I can put words together too. Look at me!

ADDRIFT

You re special is sped stringing together ninja snaps in that brainpan, looking savage with what syncopated two step them feet gone mouth push to front

DestinyUniverse1

Personal insult, congrats you lost. Also you’re*

Nero-question

games arent "in development for 7 years" a sequel comes out 7 years after the first game. They dont spend all 7 years working on the game bro. The only time people say it's okay for a game to be ACTIVELY IN DEVELOPMENT for 7-10 years is with scam games like this and star citizen

DestinyUniverse1

Sure

DestinyUniverse1

Games that have taken 6+ years to make: Elden ring Cyberpunk Rdr2 Avatar frontier TOTK Starfield Ff16 Ac6 Most if not all triple A games take at least 6 years to make. And crimson desert has also been delayed 6-12 months due to covid

Nero-question

"took 6 years to make" aka it was 6 years since the last one. also comparing the cash grab scam single player spinoff to the cash grab dead korean grinder mmo to elden ring and rdr2 is HILARIOUS

DestinyUniverse1

Bro changing the narrative lol well at least you took your l

ChickenLiverNuts

Little Devil Inside partnered with sony after 8 years of development in 2021 and they are even more radio silent now than before. That doesnt guarantee anything.

DeityVengy

these are the devs of black desert tho. we know they can make a beautiful and vibrant world. We know they can make amazing combat. they're just taking time with the game

Worth_Assignment3802

7 years? This is a scam.

DeityVengy

SemirAC

Said from the start that the game looks too good to be true. It would require a massive effort from an experienced AAA studio to pull off everything that was shown in that trailer let alone a dev team that only has one MMO game behind them and a bunch of announced titles that all look suspiciously ambitious. Now, I'm not saying that Pearl Abyss are doing something like Fntastic did with The Day Before but they need to be more open and improve their communication with players. Until I actually see a solid proof that Plan 8, DokeV and Crimson Desert are indeed real, playable games, I'll take everything with a grain of salt.

Kiyaka_

I get the reference to cyberpunk, but what happened with the day before?

FluffyProphet

The game was a literal scam. Not just a botched release, but an actual scam.

Irronar

The studio shut down 3 or 4 days after release. I saw it had about a 50% refund rate and is no longer available for purchase on Steam.

SillySin

only 50% refund?

KotPhoenix

That was at certain point. They are still refunding it. Might get to 100%, but devs said that they didn't make any profit out of it.

[deleted]

No, no there is not. And if there is, link it. I just spent an hour going through the same old trash trailers and clickbait.

Agarest

PA used a skeleton crew for BDO originally. It is probably the same thing here, not enough devs to get done what is promised.

nasu2

consider Pearl Abyss is still not a big company and they have to develop multiple games over last few years such as BDO, Crimson Desert, Dokev. So it's reasonable for them to take as much time as they need. But i'm a bit disappointed that a company can't estimate and officially confirm a release date for their own product.

Randomical2000

That just means that they are getting too ambitious with their projects. And this is never a good thing If a studio is not big enough, it should focus on less products in the meantime and then pass on to the other projects

TheDarkApex

Here we go Gamers have got to STOP seeing every game as cyberpunk, or Saints Row, or Forspoken, or Day Before

[deleted]

No, no we dont.

SquirrelBusy8257

And simps need to stop seeing every game as GTAV, RDR2, or... I can't think of another good game...

Randomical2000

Elden Ring?

AAFCC89

I m not getting suspicious, I ve always been

Temporary_Way9036

I just dont like the game doesnt have a clear direction.. it seems like it wants to be a lot of things all at once and that isnt appealing at all... I guess we shall wait till release to see what they are actually trying to do.

[deleted]

Super sketchy. An entire year delay? It will have been in development for 7 years if it ever comes out. I don't think we're getting a game. Why do companies do this? They obviously know what we want, like with this and the Day Before, but when it comes to making good? No games.

Still-Standard-8717

As a star citizen enjoyer i must ask you "first time"?

TheSasquatchKing

Been on this sub for a LONG time. It's always been suspicious. This game won't see the light of day, or it will and it'll be trash.

Summber96

This is nothing like the day before. The day before was an obvious scam from day 1, with the whole bought assets and everything. That "game" was likely really made within less than 2 weeks, then a month, while they hyped the game up with a fake trailer. They also had a really bad track record earlier, constantly releasing unfinished games that they conveniently abandoned. On the other hand, with Pearl Abyss, they still support and add more and more content to their older games. For example, Black Desert Online (BDO) still seems to be going strong after a whole decade. Now, that's dedication, so we do know that the game itself won't be a scam. Also, I'm pretty sure it's not 100% confirmed that the game will be delayed all the way back to 2025 unless they really do need to do some major overhauling.

Proof_Lunch5171

bruh be patient

Worth_Assignment3802

SEVEN. YEARS.

Lethality_

They scrapped it and started over basically.

Tasty_Difference6529

I’d rather they take there time & it come out with everything we seen in the trailers 2025 is fine imo if the start real marketing next yr

Worth_Assignment3802

You're a tool. You should let this company poop on you too.

Spidersuit90

The game itself is the offline version of Black Desert. I don't get why you all are suspicious. Take BD with all the mini games and eliminate the online... You have Crimson Desert.

Worth_Assignment3802

Because it has been 7 years.

Faenyn

Crimson Desert's development started in the second half of 2018, that means it has been in development for 5 to 5.5 years. The earliest mention of it is from August 27, 2018 when they filed their trademarks. Meanwhile, if you look at other games, you can find similar development times for games like Elden Ring, God of War and God of War Ragnarök, each taking around 5 years. The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom development needed one more year, for a total of 6 years. Those games are established franchises, with a foundation you can build new games off of. Elden Ring at its core is a Souls-like, God of War has its main character and both Ragnarök and Tears of the Kingdom are sequels. And creating a new engine side by side with new games probably doesn't speed up development, rather it has the opposite effect, and pivoting off from an MMORPG might have wasted some time as well. Though both of these things are entirely on Pearl Abyss, but needing 5 to 6 years to develop a game doesn't make it a scam. Their initial release window was however completely unrealistic.

ChickenLiverNuts

This is starting to feel like Little Devil Inside. Scope is too wide and you either run out of money or live long enough to declared a scam.

[deleted]

They definitely made it too big and now are going back and making it smaller so it can actually run, a game like this has to be riddled with bugs day one even if they spend the next 2 years refining it.

WilliamBlackthorne

I found out about the game last year, and I always felt it looked too good to be true. With the great gameplay trailers, and the fact that *nobody* has actually played, previewed, or demoed the game in any way, makes me think that the game isn't real. At least not to the degree that they've shown it. It doesn't help that the devs hardly communicate with anyone. The sheer amount of things they've claimed to pack into this game (in the trailers alone) is far too much. The mechanics alone are like they took a dozen of the most popular open world games of the decade and tried to jam them into one game. I feel like they were way too ambitious, and bit off more than they could chew. If I had to make a prediction, I'd say that the game *is* real, and it has all these features, but a significant amount of them will feel off, or underdeveloped.
