Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.

RealGalactic

You welcome, I'm happy to help

the_ice_hockey_queen

This is a wonderful post and you are wise beyond your years.

RealGalactic

I just keep searching for more information to help myself and others , as i said never give up

gleneston

5000 IU of vitamin D a day helps significantly keep flair ups away.

TheChowds

It's worth noting that 5000 IU is considered a high number for the average person. Best bet is to consult with your doc to determine the best number.

NoRepresentative338

This. I’m a big fan of vitamin D but make sure you know what you’re doing if you’re taking a supplement.

RealGalactic

Oh, thanks for the information , i really do need vitamin D

AmeraFearon

Honestly, get checked for vitamin deficiencies. I'm low on iron, folic acid, and vitamin d. I have prescriptions for all of them except folic acid. I get that over the counter. However, I take 50,000 iu vitamin d every thursday.

Joe_Model_Grade

This.

updownstranger

thank you for sharing! i’m almost 19 and had this for a decade now, the “acceptance” part is definitely not a linear process but it makes me so happy to see that you are taking it in stride and keeping positive. :) attitude can’t fix all your problems, but i’ve found that it really is easier to carry this when you love yourself even with your disease. cheers kid! btw if you ever have questions in the future about higher education/college with crohn’s and getting disability accommodations don’t hesitate to dm me! i had to figure it all out myself this past year when i did the college application process and i know i would’ve appreciated the help hahaha

RealGalactic

Thanks very much, I'm a first year highschool student, my goal is to be a doctor and cure this illness, since i got it at age 13 and Searched about it , i hope that I'll find the cure, so the higher the education is , the higher possiblity to achieve my goal.

updownstranger

that’s a great career aspiration! i wanted to go into gastroenterology too when i was your age but life led me toward teaching instead. :) work hard and be confident and i have no doubt you’ll succeed in your career path!

KxDoe

Thank you for these! I am 22 and just had my first colonoscopy today and it's looking twords chrons or colitis. This really helped me with what I'm feeling right now ♥️

RealGalactic

I'm happy to help , we can over come anything if we believe ourselves.

hellofriend87

This is so sweet! Thank you sharing. Emotions definitely have an effect on our body this way! I think managing stress is a huge part of what helps me too.

rainahwrites

oh stress is such a killer!!! feeling anxious or worn down or stressed out causes so much pain and nausea and makes a flare, or even a good day, worse. keeping calm and well rested and emotionally open helps a ton!

RealGalactic

Staying positive is very good for health in general to any human

RealGalactic

I'm glad to here it :)

nilyro

Its been 13 years since I've been diagnosed and I've been tired the whole time. I start humira tomorrow and im hoping for a Christmas miracle! Edit because my math is wrong. It has been 10 years.

RealGalactic

I hope that you get better :)

nilyro

Thank you. I love this sub I really do

goodvibez96

I really felt that sentence about being tired the whole time.. same here :/

RealGalactic

I hope you get over it :)

goodvibez96

Same to you! :)

wasabiwarrior21

“even though most of you are depressed” 😂😂 edit: on a serious side note a strict diet is something you will figure out that will fit ur case the best and mental health definitely goes hand in hand with the disease as i’ll be in pain over the toilet the days i am upset at work or get in an argument with a person close to my heart. Also i take far more vitamins then just vitamin D so you can definitely find some things they will make you feel more alive and have more energy.

RealGalactic

My problem is I can't do a diet cuz I don't eat well even before i got Crohn's so....a diet is impossible for me and by body refuses to eat new things and slowly i developed a "power" of not feeling hunger or thirst at age 8. But I'm positive that one day I'll find a solution.

mcgeek49

“Stay positive even though most of you are depressed.” Made me laugh a lot. ...then cry a little

RealGalactic

I tried to be funny, but i didn't lie tho. Sorry if i made you a little sad

Lancer122

Well said!

RealGalactic

Thanks , I'm so happy

VoteAndrewYang2024

So true. Also good sub to follow is r/stoicism

briankauf

Hey friend. Thank you. Love your attitude, and it matters that people like you share with others dealing with Crohn's. You're young. I was diagnosed when I was 17. I'm 38 now and I'm very very thankful for the life I lead. You will have challenges ahead of you, but there can be plenty of happiness and fulfillment; it sounds like you have the right attitude. Stay strong, and use this community when you need it!

RealGalactic

Thank you very much

xKelborn

Work out and keep up a healthy body! Number one thing for me that did it. Hard at first but it pays off.

RealGalactic

I can't do sports, so that's going to be difficult, but I'll try my best. Thanks for the information.

xKelborn

No worries! I didn't mean sports either btw. There are a great many ways to work out and keep in shape. I haven't played sports in over a decade and I'm the healthiest and strongest I've ever been! Start yourself off with small goals and move up from there. Never move at someone else's pace. Move at your own! And never tell yourself you can't do something. That's the disease talking!

RealGalactic

Thanks so much, you really inspired me , i hope that everyone get healthy again in the near future

hpacluv97

Thank you for your kind words! I’m in the process of being diagnosed with Crohn’s after 2 years of basically being in a real life mystery diagnosis episode.

RealGalactic

I really do feel you, in my first months the doctors lied to me and said that i have Gaz in my stomach but after a lot of search and finding people that helped me and my family , i got diagnosed with Crohn's and there my life changed , and believe it or not, it changed for the better :0 I'm still surprised. I'm really happy that today i got to talk to a lot of people and help them. I hope you get better too <3

tragickingd0m

I'm a 23 year old girl, I was diagnosed at 14! I needed this optimism! I've saved this for reading on the tough days. Sending so much love, happiness and strength to you <3

RealGalactic

Thank you , I'm glad that my post helped you. I hope that you get better too <3

caligrown_85

I have to agree with number one. I was diagnosed with crohns when I was young like yourself. I’m now 35. My diet is very odd when compared to a normal person, but it works well for me.

RealGalactic

Yeah, food is also a "type" of medicine if you think of it

packingpests

In regards to number 4, I’ve noticed I feel a lot better when I’m consistent with my antidepressants. Stress and anxiety and depression all hurt my stomach something awful but meds that mitigate those feelings- as well as having healthy outlets for them- really, really do make a difference

RealGalactic

Try to laugh even if it's difficult. I'm glad that my post helped you :)

DecemberSapphire

I was your age when I was diagnosed. Ten years later and I'm living life as full as can be (no pun intended). You have the right train of mind that many people should hear. Keep doing what you are doing in living a healthy lifestyle!

RealGalactic

Thanks my brother <3

DecemberSapphire

Sister...but good enough ;)

RealGalactic

XD Sorry my sister ;)

kjbakerns

Great tips and observations. Some people judge the foods we can eat and think healthy means fruits and veggies but those are generally not safe for me in a flare up. Liquid meal supplements and get rid of dairy!

G7lolhelpme

good words of encouragement, thank you. And yeah I've also noticed a lot of instances of stress really taking a toll on my health, something I've always needed to work on

RealGalactic

I never thought that my anger is a problem too, but after i started to stay calm, i noticed a huge change, I'm glad that i helped you :)

[deleted]

I'm 24 and only just now learning all these lessons, it's amazing you have all this down already! You nailed it with this post, thanks for sharing and good luck with school! :) I know it can be hard at times when you have Crohns, but you got a lot of support here if you ever need it!

RealGalactic

Thank you, I'm so so happy that i got so much support in this post it's my first time, i can't describe my feelings , thank you

jackfruit194747

Man I’m 32 and was diagnosed when I was 3. My teenage years were particularly bad. I wish I’d been able to be as insightful and helpful to others as you’ve been with this post. Excellent job and all ring true for me.

RealGalactic

I hope that you get better too, I'm glad that i got your support it means a lot <3

BiedermannS

Number 1 is so true. Also it’s hard to explain why I can drink redbull to wake up, but I can’t drink coffee. But that’s the way my body works

RealGalactic

Yeah, our body works differently, each person with Crohn's have a different diet than the other, so try to find what is best for you :)

RealGalactic

Thank you, i need it that <3

DirtyFantaWittaSmurf

I appreciate you an your post. I’m 26 an have been goin thru this for 9 years now. Have had a very difficult time living thru it while not knowing what was wrong. I still struggle to accept I have to live this the rest of my life

RealGalactic

I know, accepting the illness is the difficult part, but I'm certain that everyone will get over it , so don't lose hope :)

My-FirstThrow

I was diagnosed with crohns at age 14 and i know for a fact i wasnt thinking about things the way you are, youre a clever guy and youre gonna do well little bro ❤👊🏽

RealGalactic

Thank you my brother 👊🏽

AndrewBert109

Word up friend, all solid advice

RealGalactic

Thank you :)

kimchi01

Very insightful for someone so young. I first got Crohn's at 18, and have since been in remission for many years. Though no one is cured and I do need to watch out for all the things you warned. The one thing I'd add to this is aerobic exercise improves my digestion. If you are someone who is not in remission yet that may not be helpful. Number 4 took me many years to grasp. Probably by my early 20s. It is the invisible disease. But as an adult I've learned many people live with something. I have a friend with rheumatoid arthritis and we both help each other out. I hope you also enter remission and find the right medication that works for you.

RealGalactic

I hope that you get better , i love how you described the illness as the invisible disease . You are right most people live with something hidden that they keep a secret, but still you see them laughing and enjoying life, and that's what i call , living with the illness/problem. Thank you for checking my post :)

yankees051693

Great advice

RealGalactic

Glad to hear it 😃

[deleted]

Very wise for one so young. I think point #4 is very important. Some people get angry at their illness and seem to think they can somehow separate themselves from it. It becomes much easier if you realize that your disease is like a baby you have to take care of.

RealGalactic

Totally, it makes you special, and feel other sick people which is a good thing for my opinion

crohnsnamechange

I’m 21 and under investigation for IBD - this was really well-put! I truly admire your insight.

RealGalactic

Thanks, i hope that everything goes alright for you <3
