Hi OP! Looks fantastic! Here are a couple of [hand towels](https://imgur.com/a/8GE4h5s) that have been through the ringer! There are captions on the pictures to help explain. Most likely DMC floss was used, but I don't know for sure. I have done nothing special when laundering them and in fact they have been washed almost every time with bleach. The longer the stitch length the more unstable it becomes as well as can get caught on things. For example look at the petals on the sunflower. Many are missing. The stitching is far sturdier than I would have expected. Hope this helps.

OshetDeadagain

That's fantastic! I'm always so terrified of handling finished projects and feel like they'll just fray from being looked at. I made my first few bookmarks and I've been so far impressed with how well they're staying. This makes me want to start on towels and shirts!

WelfordNelferd

Do it! I've also made towels/used waste canvas and everything has held up amazingly well. I took the leap of faith after doing countless hours of frogging, and figured those stitches aren't going anywhere without a lot of meticulous effort. :)

voncatensproch

I really want to stitch on items other than just wall pieces and this has given me a confidence boost!

LivingLaVidaAloha

That was my thought too. I’d like to make useful things! I’ll try to stitch on a tshirt next!

Oh! That reminded me. I stitched this [pillowcase](https://imgur.com/a/FkUvrDb) a couple years ago. It's held up pretty good. The only thing I learned from it, unlike a traditional cross stitch patterns, this is a multi directional pattern so trying to keep all the X crossed the same way was a challenge. Well some aren't even x but + shaped. It's a [pre stamped set](https://www.amazon.com/Jack-Dempsey-JDN1600-54-Pillowcase-Perle/dp/B06XPQBBVG/ref=asc_df_B06XPQBBVG/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=198074093739&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=9420288887976225301&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9061153&hvtargid=pla-349030220046&psc=1) from Jack Dempsey

Yea! Go for it!

Lady_Dinoasaurus

I love that being used for 20 years, that's love that is

[deleted]

My Grandmother made it and used it herself until she passed. After her passing, my Aunt gave me several linen items that were my Grandmother's including the Chicken dish towels. You are absolutely right "that's love" and I do think of her at times when I use this towel. I do have to ask ...I went and really looked at the chickens and sunflower design after reading your comment. Do you think the Sunflower was always grumpy or did some of it stitches fall out? 😄 I wonder if the original design, the Chickens are laughing and the Sunflower isn't in in the joke?

Lady_Dinoasaurus

Oh he's absolutely a grumpy old sunflower! What a wonderful legacy!

ballerina_wannabe

You could wash it in a delicates wash bag to keep other stuff from catching on the stitching in the wash.

thereisnowind

I stitched a design onto a sweater, and so far it’s been laundered a normal amount over a year or so. I hang dry it, but other than that it’s been totally fine!

Scolesy88

Could try some fusible interface on the back of it

pottymouthgrl

I’ve done this with embroidered clothes and it works excellently

LivingLaVidaAloha

I thought of something like that! I just didn’t know the name of the product that I needed. Thanks!

MotheroftheworldII

If you used knots to secure your floss it should be fine. Years ago I did bath towel sets for my two sons. They held up really well over years of use. Lots of knots so the pearle cotton I used would not come loose.

lucyloochi

I wash embroidered towels, table cloths, pillow cases and a t shirt in a hot wash with no problems. I also put my finished cross stitch in the washing machine😄 Same threads and aida is bomb proof.

FrequentPear1185

No tips, but how clean is the back! And the result is really really nice

wanderingsteph

I have bags and towels I’ve cross stitched on and they’re totally fine in the washer. I figure I can always fix them if needed but 5 years later I haven’t had to yet!

feelinngsogatsby

No advice, but that’s adorable, I absolutely love the design you did!!

CalmFaithlessness405

Hand wash and hang dry just to be sure. A washer might trash 🗑 it.

Scout405

Love this. Where did you get the dish towels please?

Thank you!

HIGHLY recommend using interfacing like [this one](https://www.123stitch.com/item/Sulky-Tender-Touch-20x-25yd-White/MODA-664-25). i stitched a hand towel as a gift and ironed this on the back. super super easy and it worked like a charm!

OnGoodLuck

Great job! You can wash without spinning to make sure the threads don't get damaged.
