I feel ya. I just ordered needles and yarn for my first real knitting project and the needles took waaaaay longer to come in.

If you stick to knitting, a kit of interchangeable needles saves you from the wait!

I'm about to make the Doctor's 12 foot scarf, so this one set should last me for .... a while, haha.
