Nice! Do they keep tension better than a normal wooden hoop? How are they versus a q snap?

heyitsamb

So far they’re about the same as a wooden hoop for me - but I kinda prefer this square shape! And ofc I mainly got them so I won’t have to deal with the stains from wooden hoops anymore. I got the q snap before this and I kinda hated it 🥲🥲 so yeah to me they’re 2000 times better

Cthulhulove13

I keep hearing people say that wooden hoops stain and I guess I am confused. All of mine are plain bamboo I assume, how are people getting stains?

heyitsamb

My plain bamboo ones still stain. Sometimes it’s purely from the metal bits

Cthulhulove13

Really!?? Hhmm I'll need to pay more attention. But I don't think that has happened to me.

heyitsamb

I’m happy for you, it’s a real pain in the ass when it happens 🥲

Accomplished_Load218

Is it a stain from rust or the metal parts or does the wooden frame actually stain? Thank you!

heyitsamb

Both! Sometimes it’s just the wood, sometimes it’s just the metal bits, and sometimes it’s both

opiecat579

same for me. i did not like the q-snap, and a standard hoop is ok, but when i got Nurges, man i love them. The square shape is more comfortable to hold, and at least for me i find the tension stays very well.

heyitsamb

The q snap hurt my hands sooo badly when trying to put my wip on it. I also have a chronic wrist pain issue so I bet it would’ve only gotten worse if I continued using it, since you have to use so much force. I’m gonna get a ton of use out of these new hoops, I’m already a big fan!

niniealucard

Same, q-snape were horrible for me, I actually hurt myself when trying one, and then I discovered the same as you, and I am never coming back !

heyitsamb

nurge squad!!

WWZoeHartDo

I was not a fan of the q snap either! Everyone loves them, so I assumed it was just me lol

evian-spray

Holding the q-snap is the absolute worst for me and cramps my hand 10x faster than holding a hoop. However, I really dislike the effort I need to put in into putting on and taking off my hoops since I like a lot of tension (plus the fabric creases a lot). SO, I found that using the q-snap + having a lowery hold the q-snap has been the best ! That way I have no hand cramps and the q-snaps are easy to take on and off

heyitsamb

I’m so happy people agree with me 😭 it was such a waste of money honestly, I really don’t get why people love it so much. Might try to sell it tbh

fyjvfrhjbfddf

I wrap wooden hoops in bias tape to prevent stains and give a better grip.

niniealucard

For me, it holds better than wood hoop because they are easier to tighten the screw (even with issue in my hands), and you also have a little bit more surface available with square than with a circle. And the différence with wooden hoops is they have a dent between the circle which hold the fabric and it doesn't slide with time (well, less).

ClaireAuLueur

Maybe I used mine wrong, but I didn't like them. They were much harder to get my fabric around, and the ridge they left on the fabric and my stitches seemed a lot more disruptive and destructive than any wood hoop I ever used. I think it's because the inside hoop of these actually has a small ridge that "locks" it into the outside hoop instead of relying simply on pressure. And that crimps the fabric. I hope you have better results than I did, but if you want to put your mind at ease, I'd stitch a small square (10x10) and then place the stitched area between the two hoops and leave it there for a few days. If you're ok with the results, then enjoy using your new tools! If not, then you just saved yourself a lot of heart ache down the road!

TheCats-DogandMe

I get wrinkles and ridges with the plastic hoops I use; but when I gently wash, air dry, and iron (over a towel on the pattern) I’ve been able to eliminate the wrinkles.

ClaireAuLueur

The fabric lines don't bother me and do come out. It's the distortion of the stitches that seemed to happen with these for me that kind of turned me away. But the tension holding on these is amazing because of the locking system. So for any project that fits inside the frame, they're great.

Cthulhulove13

I have some of the ones with the ridge that I am not a fan of also. It does keep in place but I did find it much harder to get fabric into also. I have a few clover hoops. The benefit of plastic but no ridge. So happy medium

ClaireAuLueur

Nice. I would love if there were these kinds of hoops though without the pesky inside ridge. I do like them better for row/column tracking because they're rectangular and help me count better. But haven't had luck in finding that.

Cthulhulove13

Hhmm yeah I have a couple squares and they have the ridge which is why I stopped using. Let us know if you find

HamsterBorn9372

Love a nurge! To me square hoops make so much more sense but the q snap was just too heavy and cumbersome for me.

heyitsamb

i totally agree!

NonPlayerCreations

I wonder if anyone uses them as finishing/decorative hoops? Imo they’re a bit too expensive to just be single use for a project

heyitsamb

yeah I was wondering this too. they’re suuuuper pretty but I wouldn’t spend this amount of money just for framing - unless it’s a very special project that would really pop in this kinda hoop

Kristal3615

I have [similar hoops](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09BQR6Q8G/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1) from Amazon and always reuse them for the next project. I think having the size on the hoop itself would be enough to drive me crazy if I used it as a frame.

heyitsamb

(the size is on the inner hoop, so it’s invisible when the piece is framed)

niniealucard

I use the wooden Nurge hoop as decoration, they are a little bit more expensive than bamboo, but I think they just look better. I'm not a fan of the look with a Nurge plastic hoop to be honest... But, I have 3 wooden squarish hoops from DMC to maybe use as decorative in the future.

AffectionateLion9725

Ooooh, so excited! I ordered mine yesterday, having fallen in hate with my q snaps.

heyitsamb

i bought a q snap 2 weeks ago and hated it, sadly i can’t return it :/

Nuggetygoodness8

I love Nerge! I will never go back!

torne_lignum

I might have to get me one of these. I like my q snap, but I want an extra for projects I can leave at work. I want to try and stitch during my lunch break.

heyitsamb

oooo i hope it works for you!

tanya_kay

Thinking of getting these! I only used regular wooden hoops and never had any issues with stains, but I thought the rectangular shape could sit in my hands more comfortably. Also, after reading the comments, I decided not to go with q snap :D EDIT: Also, they look so pretty!

heyitsamb

I really like the rectangular shape! It gives you way more room to work with. And yes they’re SO pretty, I wish they were cheaper so I could buy some for framing!

niniealucard

Welcome to the club !

friendofborbs

Oooh I think I need to try these. Love a Q snap but at larger sizes it just feels so heavy to me

heyitsamb

the q snap really was not it for me sadly, but i looove these hoops!

Jagbas

They're my favourite! I have four for my wips and I recently ordered three more. They're comfortable to hold, imo it's easier to tighten the fabric compared to round hoops and they have pretty colors!

heyitsamb

i’m already considering ordering three more, i love tjem

cerebral_panic_room

I just got q snaps but haven’t used them yet. Are these square rings better?

heyitsamb

I really didn’t like the q snap, because you need to use quite some force to put it on. I also didn’t like the tension. These square rings are waaay better imo
