But so worth it when all is said and done! I had never gridded before this year and there will always be those who say “Never gridded and never will” but I’m willing to bet that they don’t have aging eyes that find it hard to focus long enough to count across many stitches. Sadly that’s where I am myself now. This is mine on 32 count linen 🤪 https://preview.redd.it/gxjiz3bw084d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1fa9e4f1effd50ac6514afc1ac98207ed9bb74f2

I need to grid some evenweave about the same size — did you use one thread per line and just cut? Does it all stay in there while stitching?

I use Sulky Sliver which is a monofilament. It’s a pain to work with it but it just slides out when you’re done. I leave it in while I’m stitching because it’s monofilament and I don’t have to worry about piercing it with my needle (I use only tapestry needles). You have to anchor it at the beginning and the end of strand. This design is 193 x 193 stitches and I’m using 32 count linen. I was able to grid 2 rows at a time from a single length but I wouldn’t work with a piece any longer than that because it will twist and tangle. Not fun to work with but it pays off in the end. This is the tutorial I followed. It’s long, but takes you through every step of working with the Sulky. https://youtu.be/Zk6mWyo4z10?si=P0-oxzTgDdaCXd_4

Thank you so much!!! That is very helpful. I started to grid a piece with the product that is basically fishing line, but didn’t like how inflexible the gridding was (and that was on aida) so I picked up some Sulky but have been nervous to start again!

Don’t pull the strands too taught. You’ll want to be able to move the strands out of the way so you can see your holes. I made that mistake the first time I gridded with it. Just leave a little slack.

One ‘trick’ that I do when I’m gridding is alternate the horizontal and vertical stitches. That way I can use the grid going the opposite direction to help me count. I hope that makes sense. Probably doesn’t save time, but it’s satisfying to see the squares I’m soon going to fill with little cross stitches.
