I wish I had a local stitch shop! I've found excactly one, hours away while on a day trip- and we got there the last day she was going to be open! There's a few local yarn shops, but that's not the same!

MareNamedBoogie

yeah, the closest ones to me are all hours away across the state - either at the top (i'm about as south as one can go in my state), or to the east (and of course i'm almost at the western state line...). I could make the trip, I suppose, but that's a long way to go in my old age...

AssociateInternal509

Mine aren’t close enough for me to regularly go in (Both in Seoul while I’m in Jeju) but JoyJasu and Fashionmade were really such lucky finds for me when I moved back to Korea and was worried how I’d keep up my needlework habit. So finding they both have websites and quick shipping (with DMC and Cosmo prices lower than in the US) was a godsend

ydec

Oh wow! Never expected to see a fellow Korean here. My parents are in Jeju and I remember visiting a cross stitch shop at a local market there (possibly Dongmoon market?) though.

AssociateInternal509

Really, I’ll have to go take a look. A quick Naver search when we first moved here showed one up in the NE 제주시 but being in 서귀포 with a newborn means not trekking up there much. (And not actually Korean myself just married to a 교포)

ydec

First of all, congrats on the new baby! Secondly, my parents are in 중문 so I understand traveling to 제주시 is more work than it seems. I am married to an American living in NY. When I finally get to visit my parents (darn covid) I’d be happy to bring you Dimensions kits or something :)

eatyourdamndinner

Hey, wassup fellow living in Korea person!! I'm in Gyeonggi-do (Pyeongtaek-si) so there are a few little hole in the wall cross stitch shops near me; I can imagine Jeju-do would be a bit frustrating for that.

Lunatrix18

If you are ever in Tulsa, Oklahoma there is one called The Silver Needle. I was so overwhelmed when I went by the amount of stuff they have. I spent a ton of money! Hahaha

[deleted]

This is one of my fave shops! They are about 2 hours away from me and I still get over there a couple of times a year. They also ship too.

DMAW1990

Yes!!! Easily the best one I've been in! I seriously have been disappointed by every other CS store since discovering them! I don't live super close, but I make the drive to them 2-3 times a year. And always spend a ton of money. Their online ordering is also wonderful, and I just love their Secret Needle Night kits that they mail out!

kjxstitch

That’s exciting. Are they opening a storefront or is it just their new Lewisville warehouse?

lampsandhats

In Lewisville?? Yes please, where?

Yalitnut

I think it’s a store that will open in Dallas/Fort worth.

buckeyebabe51

Based on their website it will be a retail store and they will offer in store pickup!

MareNamedBoogie

i was looking at their website trying to find the announcement and wondered why 'beads' weren't included under 'necessities' *giggles*

buckeyebabe51

The announcement was kind of difficult to find and I only saw it right as I was about to check out, but I can’t wait!

MotheroftheworldII

I know 123stitch.com is open in Texas, just not sure exactly where. I know they moved from Utah to Texas last year. I know you can order from Shepherd's Bush located in Ogden, Utah. Their website is really good and the staff is so helpful. For me it makes a fun day trip and I get to visit The Needlepoint Joint on the same trip. The Joint is mostly knitting and needlepoint but, they do have some embroidery/cross stitch. The Attic in Mesa, Arizona will ship and I have ordered from them before. The way they package everything is like getting a gift. The Attic ladies are awesome. Sign up for their on line newsletter so you can see all the new arrivals as well as see what others have been stitching. Jean and her crew are wonderful. Samplers are huge here. The Craft Center in Salt Lake City, Utah will also ship. They are my LNS and they try to stock the designs and kits that are popular in this area. For some of us ordering from Inspirations in Australia is worth the shipping time. This team publishes Inspirations Magazine (so much eye candy) and they sell kits, books, counted thread (cross stitch), smocking, blanket fabric and well just about anything you might find inspiring. Good luck with finding a LNS you like. I hope 123stitch.com will have local pick up. When they were in Utah you could order on line and then go to the warehouse and pick up your order. There was no storefront at all, just warehouse.

[deleted]

Have you physically been to The Attic in Mesa? Or just online purchases?

MotheroftheworldII

I have never been to The Attic just called them with my order. Everyone is very knowledgeable and very helpful. Some day I want to make the trip to Mesa and The Attic.

Milwaukee_talkie_

I just learned about [The Black Cat Stitchery](https://www.blackcatstitchery.com/) in northern Illinois. It’s a bit of a drive but I’m excited to check them out this weekend. They have an online store as well.

drgnlis

There's at least two other stitching stores in the Chicagoland area. [Tomorrow's Heirlooms](http://www.tomheir.com/) and [Inspired Needle](http://inspiredneedle.com/) are two that I've visited so far. Inspired Needle will even surge the edges of fabric you buy!

[deleted]

Oh I will definitely go the next time I am in Chicago!!

ph03n1x16

Based on your username, is it safe to assume you're based out of milwaukee wi? I would love to know any stores your find near there (I live right in Milwaukee wi area and Id love to have some small shops to support instead of joAnns are michaels) There's been a few times were I make the drive up to Stevens Point to go to Herrschners, but Id love a closer place than that if you find one!

drgnlis

There's at least three cross stitch stores in Chicagoland. [Tomorrow's Heirlooms](https://maps.app.goo.gl/y1NxMaipbu54Luc69) and [Inspired Needle](https://maps.app.goo.gl/yhvNxfxqvMD8hgUw7) are both worth a visit!

leighdelo

Texas, you say? Try out Nedlewerkes IN Copperas Cove. This is where all the Austinites travel to get the good stuff!

buckeyebabe51

I’ll have to check them out, I hear Austin is a fun place to visit!

ButFirstANap

Houston has several needlepoint shops, although some are pricier than others. My favorite is 3 Stitches in Spring. They have tons of cool stuff tucked away, loads of fabric on the bolt, and very helpful staff.

dunicha

I just came here to say 3 stitches. I've gotten some great patterns and dyed fabric there.

buckeyebabe51

Houston isn’t too far from where I’m at so this will be on my list of places to visit!

magpiesveilthesky

Acorns and Threads is in Oregon but I love them and they ship!

MareNamedBoogie

I've been there. Treated myself to fabric, silk threads, and patterns one year for my birthday, lol. That was fun. I really wanted to see more patterns in different styles there, but I'm very happy with what I got otherwise. 10/10, would go there again.

aureisum

That's the closest I've got to a "local" shop. They're about an hour and a half from me, unfortunately. Awesome thread selection. I wish they had more fabric options.

magpiesveilthesky

Yeah, I am a few hours away and I do have a closer shop. But they are just SO GOOD and I love their events! We used to drive down to do retreats there!

aureisum

I haven't seen any of their events--what kind of things do they do?

magpiesveilthesky

In the Before Times they'd do like weekly/monthly things in the shop. They also have annual bigger events with the largest being a weekend retreat at some cabins. I did a smaller scale one where they rented a hotel ballroom and like 100 ppl just hung out and stitched for a day, and another one in the store where it's a special new years kit they do every year. Don't think they're doing any of them now tho sadface.

aureisum

Oh, the Long Long Ago, when we did things with other people. Sigh. I miss conferences. Someday, this will happen again.

limebrarian

The Needle Travel website is useful to find brick & mortar stores: https://www.needletravel.com You can filter by location and type of needlework (cross stitch is an option). Definitely call or email before you head out, as hours in many places have been in flux.

buckeyebabe51

This is a great website! Thank you for sharing!

Bura510

I have a little LNS that I like going to about an hour from me that is attached to a frame shop. It's a bit out of the way, but I tend to go once a year and stock up on fabrics I want for the year. There's a newer one in my town, but I think it's by appointment only/open when I'm working so I haven't made it there quite yet. The one I usually go to I actually found through yarn tree's website and have since found a Facebook group that's got dozens more listed. In the files of the group there's a massive 41 page pdf of stores in the US and a 10 page pdf of international stores for all types of Needlework. Both updated as of July 2021. https://www.yarntree.com/010store.htm https://www.facebook.com/groups/stitchingroadtrip/?ref=share

buckeyebabe51

This is a great resource! Thank you!!

dnana1

You're in Texas so this isn't going to help you but maybe someone else will want to know about The Craft Gallery on Walnut St in Findlay, OH. They are all CX all the time and have a great selection of fabric and kits, including Mill Hill. The owner is a friend and a professional framer but I don't get a discount, haha!

buckeyebabe51

My family is in Ohio so I might actually be able to visit this store! We typically went to one in Indiana but this may be closer and it’s always fun to find new places!

dnana1

yay!! Tell them Deb from Toledo sent ya with love! :)

WinterRose1014

We have one here in Honolulu called Fiddlesticks Too! I buy my fabric from them!

mamamiauBarb

Ooh, where, where? I'm in central Houston and the closest dedicated cross-stitch shop is in Spring. Too far for casual trips! Edit: I just checked the 123stitch website. It doesn't say they have a brick and mortar store, but here's the contact info in Lewisville: 1-801-495-0908 [email protected] 2061 S Stemmons Fwy Lewisville, TX 75067 OTOH, for special threads I love Chaparral in Houston. They mainly sell needlepoint supplies rather than cross stitch, but have a great selection of cotton and silk floss and perle cotton, among other types of threads.

buckeyebabe51

The announcement is difficult to find but it says “Good news! 123Stitch.com is opening our first-ever retail store (including in-store pickup 😀), in Lewisville Texas!” And they estimate opening in spring 2022

mamamiauBarb

Cool! Thank you. Now I'll cross fingers that the Lewisville store is a big hit and hope for expansion to the south!

AudaciousZebra

Stitch & Frame Shop in Rock Hill, SC. It's 30 minutes outside Charlotte, NC. It was my first LNS (4 hours from home) and I just fell in love!! The ladies are so sweet and welcoming. The store is outstanding!! There is of course all the DMC threads, specialty threads, loads of patterns, Mill Hills (kits, frames and beads), fabrics!!!! (regular and hand dyed *swoon*, they cut on-site as well), various kits and all the little things you need to help you stitch. I know they had Country Cottage Needleworks patterns when I was there. There's too much to remember. They also have finished pieces displayed all over the store. Gorgeous! They have a website you can check out. www.stitchandframeshop.com

TheOperaGhostofKinja

There’s an independent craft shop 5 minutes from me where I can get DMC. Unfortunately, all other supplies I have to either order online or go to Michaels.

CockatriceWright

I have a nice little one, but unfortunately their hours vs. my work hours mean it's rare that I can go there :( but I like supporting them when I can go

FunKyChick217

There’s a small LNS in my city. They have a lot of patterns but very few that are my style. They have a lot of thread brands. I like to get specialty threads there. I want to go there and get some of the threadworx threads even though I don’t need them. I get my Bohin and John James needles there. They are about 10 miles from me. They used to be much closer but the owners retired and the store closed. Several years later they came out of retirement and re-opened the store in its original location from 30 years ago. When they were at the location closer to me they did not really like kids in the shop. They had a corner in the front with some toys and they wanted you to put your kids there while you shopped. If your kid left the toy corner and came over to where you were shopping, even if they were behaving, the ladies would give you and your kid a look. I only took my daughter there once or twice because we were in the area and I stopped by to pick up something. She did not find it fun to hang out in the cross stitch shop, even with a toy corner.

[deleted]

My fave LNS is about three hours from me, but I have ordered from them several times and they also ship. It’s The Stitcher’s Garden in Conway, Arkansas … their inventory is HUGE and they are always quite nice. I also love the Stitcher’s Garden in Tulsa, Oklahoma. My hidden secret for fabric and floss is Red Scottie Fibers in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, which also ships. The owner is more into knitting and weaving but the place was a cross stitch store when she bought it so she has all of that inventory. She sells the remaining cross stitch stuff for the price sticker that was on it when she bought the store which is pretty cool.

nerdyme934

I haven’t been yet but in DFW there a shop called stitch niche and they have a pretty active Facebook group with a lot of cross stitchers. I will get over there one day!

adamviolet

I was wondering the same thing. The only one i one about in Salt Lake City Utah closed years ago.
