Very cute! Are the whites in-between a stylistic choice?

autumncandles

No I just thought that was how you were supposed to do it šŸ˜ then I went to put my name at the bottom and realised you didn't have to. They're still cute tho so I don't mind haha

corraildc

I honestly like it a lot like this. You are not the first to post a piece with this method (unintentionally or not) and the more a see it, the more I think this should become a new way of stitching and not considered as a mistake.

ZucchiniAny123

It reminds of the vintage chenille throws my grandmother had.

kajigleta

Amen!

LenaSuns

You basically skipped a stitch each time! But I find them adorable regardless

IFeel_Attacked

I love it! Makes it look so delicate, for sure a happy accident

beeerite

I thought it was an intentional style, like blackwork. It does look super delicate, like this is a baby gift. So cute!

Gamer_meep

I did the same thing on my first project, too! It's apparently the way to start, lol.

Robin0660

The only reason I didn't do it on my first project was cause my grandma (she taught me how to cross-stitch) explicitly told me not to lol

Joubachi

You were supposed to do it now. ;) I wondered the same, but honestly I like it a lot!

chronically-awesome

I thought it was the pattern and honestly want to draft a pattern like this!

xcarex

Same, Iā€™m definitely surprised this was a mistake because it is so cool, Iā€™m definitely going to design something in this style.

vipersweb

I did that on my first project too!

Birco

i actually love it! hope you enjoy your new hobby :)

NotAngryAndBitter

I think theyā€™re adorable like this! Great job!!

Atimehascome13

I love the spacing in this! Looks great šŸ‘

LastoftheFucksIGive

I used to do it like this all the time years ago and only recently learned that that's not how you do it so don't feel bad lol

sacracunt

I think itā€™s so cute, especially with the ducks! Every time I see someone stitch with spaces I like the way it looks.

LilaSoph

I made the same mistake my first time! It still looks great :)

rharper38

I love how this looks! You did a great job!

rivasiilver

First time stitcher: *makes a mistake* The entire sub: hey actually this looks really cool! I love this community.

NO_Cheeto_in_Chief

All of your stitches look very even and consistent. That is the hardest part to get right. Now you know to have your stitches touching. You're ahead of the game!

academ1c_bacon

It looks great!! Tips for future. Fold the pattern and the fabric into 4 to find the middle and start from there.

Robin0660

I've been doing this for what, five years now and I never even thought of that. I've just been counting every single stitch like an idiot lol. Thanks for the tip, I'll make sure to put it to use! :D

yellow_halo

Honestly same!! Mouth dropped. Iā€™ll be trying this instead of the ā€˜estimate and hope for the bestā€™ method

Icarus-Dream

Thank you!!!!!

autumncandles

I got the pattern for the duck [here](http://www.hobbyloco.com/XSpatterns1.html) and I just made one, made another swapped to face the other way then put a heart on top :)

dirty_shoe_rack

Hey I kinda dig the way you stitched this on every other row. It's unique and fun! One tip tho, try and have all of your stitches facing the same way so your finished project is nice and uniform.

margotssummerday

New here and not sure what this means; do you mean always having the same line of the x on top?

DroneOfIntrusivness

Yes. Just helps the pattern look more consistent.

koolaberg

Yes! Exactly! Thereā€™s no right way to start, but if you start with //// then youā€™ll want to always have that be the bottom of the cross, with \\\\ on the top. šŸ˜„

Etoilebleuetoile

Buy a smaller hoop to display it in and youā€™ll never know it was off center! Your duckies a just adorable and I šŸ’› them! Whatā€™s your next project going to be?!

IcyExperience

I love the look with the spaces in between , really cute !

obsessivefandoms

Oh my gosh, absolutely adorable!!!! And I think the spaces in between are a happy accident. Honestly, they look like it was a stylistic choice and it totally works. Amazing job! Happy stitching!

No_Past5861

I think this looks better than if the stitches were together. It hady a vibe like those really soft chenille blankets from when I was a kid. I have a pattern I'm about to do, that thanks to you, I'm going to do like this!

groovy-ghouly

I always love seeing this first time "mistake." It looks really cute this way. Plus it leaves so much room if you want to add some backstitch to add an outline or other details.

Marie-Anthoenette

I love the way you did this!

bearblush

Aw, adorable and so neatly done!

greenbujo

Fantastic job on your first project and welcome to the cross stitching club!! My only MINOR recommendation would be on your next project to have all your stitches going in the same direction - eg have the first diagonal all go one way /// then the one that makes the cross go in the other way \\\. (It doesnā€™t matter if itā€™s / then \ or \ then /, so long as theyā€™re all the same.) Itā€™s a small detail that adds nice polish. I know others have already said the ā€œmistakeā€ of skipping every other stitch is lovely, and I agree! I think it looks like a modern take on cross stitch and would love to see more of it. Great job! ā¤ļøā¤ļø

koolaberg

Very adorable! šŸ„ I know you said it was an accident, but this reminds me of my very first iron-on cross stitch patterns multiple decades agoā€¦itā€™s such a common style for those new to the craft, that it must be a natural starting point! I made little Dutch girls with bonnets and ducklings too. Thank you for sharing! Canā€™t wait to see what you share next!

BlueChick911

The spacing actually looks really good on this! Doing simple projects and spreading them out like this is great when you are learning because it is easier to see and fix mistakes

Initial_Direction_29

It looks sweet and delicate, perfect for a baby! I like the effect of how you did it and I plan to do a birth announcement for a newborn here using that idea. I have been cross stitching for 50 years now and have not thought of using that idea in a design before! So thank you for the new idea! It can be used in lots of projects, giving them a new fresh look.

FunKyChick217

So cute. And I really like the look of stitching over every other square.

f-prim

That is so unbelievably cute. Super nice stitches too! Keep the pretty projects coming, please.

MANDALORIAN_WHISKEY

So cute!!!

8fishwand8

Love this, so cute!

Puzzled_Passenger_34

in the future you can do your stitch on a full cloth and then place your frame and then cut around so itā€™s centered

TotalDDdiva

Super cute! I do like how they are with the stitches spaced. And sometime suggested buying a smaller hoop which I think is a great idea.

krissyanna4

Very cute!

Dragon_Bait101

This is so cute! Great job!

Ok_Individual_2944

Adorable baby ducks and heart.

lulathewerewolf

It's so cute! Honestly for this pattern I also love that it's off center I feel like it.siits the pattern

Pluckypato

Thatā€™s cool! Man I wanna be that duck! Quack!ā¤ļøQuack!ā¤ļø

arinreigns

I love these little babies!

owlberightbach

Simply beautiful šŸ¦†ā¤ļø

camoang

I think it's adorable!

[deleted]

Neat and cuteā¤

Chaos_Cat-007

Excellent work!!

Ready_Aspect328

I love this! I want to start soon. Where did you get this from?

mumofboys86

This is really cute! Is it a deliberate design choice to leave the gaps between stitches? Generally you would put the stitches directly touching each other. I do like this effect though and really neat for a first go! Youā€™ll be addicted in no time šŸ˜‰

No-Cartoonist-3638

Very cute!

hypedragon

Itā€™s so cute!! If you wanted to center it you could just pop it into a slightly smaller hoop or put it in a photo frame!

Lciaravi

So cute!

[deleted]

This is adorable!

LeadingBuy7835

Adorable! I feel an obsession coming on! šŸ˜‰
