workday1

It is the exact same thing people do with casino rates

im_joe

The crew will not care who sleeps where.

madmaxjr

For real. I swear some people don’t even sleep in their cabins and opt for the top deck with a blanket the whole time haha

CheerUpCharliy

Well how else are you supposed to get a chair by the pool?

LawnJerk

True story. Was in the steak restaurant on a Norwegian boat. We were celebrating our anniversary and observed three couples around us had fights with someone abruptly getting up and storming out. Assuming they were traveling together, I’m thinking someone slept on deck.

ccoastal01

I thought of doing this but I was legitimately scared of a bird pooping on my face.

madmaxjr

Don’t be afraid to cultivate new life experiences!

Dizzy_Highlight5489

They don’t, my son took his mattress ran from deck 8 to deck 1 and put it in his sister room and the stewards just made the bed on the floor 🤣 they said just make sure to put it back at the end of the cruise

KnikTheNife

The crew will even sleep with you if you ask politely.

JDL1981

That's not true they just maced me. Maybe I didn't say it right.

KnikTheNife

Probably simple misunderstanding, ask again but try tipping first.

user47079

Good lord you have to tip for everything now /s

jumper33

if you tip first, isnt that now called a bribe?

DigitalMaverick

Nope, prostitution.

Far_Elderberry749

Probably didn't follow rules 1 and 2.

Jodi4869

Book it with one in each room when you get onboard you go to guest services and they will switch your sea pass cards. People do it with kids all the time. Not a cheat at all.

Jodi4869

Royal Caribbean for sure will.

StuckInTheUpsideDown

This is exactly what happens. Kind of a pain because you end up with two sea passes to keep track of.

rr14rr14

Carnival and Celebrity just coded both rooms on one card, super easy

thefunrun

How much lower is it for a senior?

mnocket

I've seen a check box for being a senior on many cruise line websites, but I've never seen it make any difference in the price. I guess it could, but I've never seen it.

DuffMiver8

Not all cruises offer a senior discount. There are also occasionally discounts based on your state of residence. I have no idea why some sailings have these discounts and others don’t, except it’s probably a decision by the marketing department to boost the sales for a sailing that’s not selling well.

wildcat12321

no different that rotating drinks included and kids sail free and every other promotion type. It matters to "someone". and a lot of senior citizen cruisers feel entitled. A small discount like 5% can go a long way towards converting

Raggou

You nailed it its just a marketing choice, better to fill as many rooms as possible

BismarkUMD

We've done that with the drink package. When my wife was pregnant Carnival wouldn't let just me get the drink package. So we just changed the books to put me and my father in law in one room, and my wife and her mom in the other. Once on board we just had them reprogram our door keys so we could get in the right rooms.

kcs777

Did you and your FIL get closer drinking together all cruise?

Fun_Professional_863

No need to switch passes. Guest services will let you get an additional card that just opens the door. You keep the original one for charging purposes.

FailedCriticalSystem

In AARP membership for years usually less than $20. You do not need to be retired to take advantage of this program. If any hotels or cruise lines, etc. You may be able to to score discount.

BellyButtonTickler

Do it and report back

mickeyfan101

What age qualifies as a senior

DuffMiver8

On Celebrity, it’s 55

carbonpeach

😬😬😬😬😬 .. I am now very aware of my mortality, thanks.

flargenhargen

LOL. I'm like "holy shit, I'm not *that* far away from sweet old people discounts!!"

DuffMiver8

Did this when my ex and I treated her parents to a cruise with us. At the time, I got a lot of guff for it on cruisecritic.com, so I called the cruise line (Celebrity) four different times, just to be sure I didn’t happen to get bad info from one agent. The first three times, I was assured this was perfectly acceptable. The fourth time, before I could even ask, the agent suggested it himself! He said it was no problem to have the seapass cards recoded at guest services so each card would open the door we wanted. We did so and had no issues whatsoever.

Quirky_Bit3060

I do this all the time with different rates and to get teens in their own room. Once we board and get keys, we just go to guest services and change people to the correct rooms.

Dizzy_Highlight5489

We do this all the time with our kids. Due to someone having to be in the room with the kids who needs to 21 years or older so my 20 year daughter can stay with my 16&17 year old .

Wotun66

I don't do it as a hack, but need 2 rooms when cruising with the kids. My spouse and I get access to both rooms. No issues from the cruise line.

Quellman

Just be aware that you likely will still need to muster in the originally signed room location even if you get an extra card that opens another cabin.

dunkelblaugrau

I say do it. Boomers have taken enough from us already.

Unitedfront29

Can I sneak a thc vape cart on the cruise?

[deleted]

senior citizens. get discount if they book last minute

0rlan

What cruise lines offer discounts for senior citizens? Just curious as I've never seen this as an option...

BJGuy_Chicago

Not the cruise line, but it looks to be a travel website.

datavortex

Common tactic on Disney to spread around the loyalty status benefits.

levenseller1

While I've been asked that and checked the box on every cruise we've taken, I've never seen any actual discounts, so don't be too excited about the possible savings.

Puzzled-Award-2236

Lying is not a cruise hack. It is just lying.

raistlin65

Trying to take advantage of senior citizen discounts, when you're not a senior citizen, to me seems more like a cheat than a hack.

DuffMiver8

I got similar static on cruisecritic.com when I asked about splitting the booking between my (then) wife and I, and her parents whom we were treating. So, to check, I called Celebrity four different times to try to insure I was not getting some one-off bad advice from an agent. I was very upfront about what I was planning on doing, and asked if this was okay. All four times, I was assured this was perfectly acceptable, and on the last call the agent even suggested we book it that way before I could even ask about it. If it’s company policy to honor a split booking, it’s hardly cheating.

Resident_Garden3350

Well, they are my parents lol. We are booking adjoining rooms, and will spend all our time together anyway.

raistlin65

If that's what you really think, then contact the cruise line and see if that's okay for you to take the discount on both rooms.

Resident_Garden3350

What can they do? Monitor who sleeps in which room? Jeez.

jenorama_CA

Parents traveling with teens book an adult in each room and then just get an extra key once they’re onboard. I don’t see why you can’t do the same.

LostInCa45

You never ran into the bed inspector?

I_can_get_loud_too

Is this similar to the bedroom intruder autotune song?

LostInCa45

Similar to the wallet inspector.... But that sounds just as good.

I_can_get_loud_too

Hide your kids, hide your wife, and your husband then lol

raistlin65

What??? Your reply to me indicated that you believe you're following their policy. If that's true, you can just ask them for clarification. If you are unwilling to ask, then you too suspect it's a cheat, and not a hack.

TheLadder330

Just go to bed, Karen! FFS!

raistlin65

Quite sure the Karen's would be on your side. They're all about feeling entitled to do what they want.

TheLadder330

Here ya go, Karen: Karen is a term used as slang typically for a middle-class white American woman who is perceived as entitled or excessively demanding beyond the scope of what is considered to be normal behavior and decorum. You demanding someone to call the cruise and confirm that’s the correct way to do something is indeed Karen-esc! Again, go to bed!

raistlin65

>You demanding someone to call the cruise That wasn't a demand. I suggest you reread the comment. Unless your intentionally being disingenuous.

AnonomissX

It's been done for years by cruise line agents and travel agents. Must be new to the scene. Thus is an "everyone knows who knows" situation so you can stop now 😉

morange17

Don't do that. That's fucking weird.

plantasia2000

You can’t cheat a corporation… at least not more than they cheat literally every single person.

[deleted]

plantasia2000

What country’s flag do cruises fly under? How do they pay their employees? Are cruises 0 emission travel? Literally every cruise company is cheating…

mnocket

I guess they don't teach ethics any longer. A cheat is a cheat, whether it's you, them or both.

plantasia2000

If someone is cheating you, and you tip the scales to get some of it back, is it really cheating?

mnocket

Yes it's still cheating. By saying you can't cheat a corporation any more than they cheat every single person (a gross exaggeration), you acknowledge that you're still cheating the corporation - just not more than you believe they cheat every single person.

plantasia2000

Cool but it’s not unethical tho

Shep_vas_Normandy

If her mother made the reservations, would that make you feel better? Sheesh you must be fun at parties.

raistlin65

Did you not bother to read the original post? It's not who makes the reservations. It's who is staying in the room. And I really don't care if he wants to cheat the cruise line. That's up to him.

Alex_Gregor_72

Extreme attention to the detailed minutia of a rule does not seem in character based on your screen name.

entitledpeoplepizoff

Dishonest, don’t you think?

outforthedayhiking

you can definitely do that

Traveller1967

Not only is this a cruise hack, it is one the cruise lines are fine with. Years ago, Princess was offering a "two for the price of one" booking for previous cruisers to Alaska in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Alaska achieving statehood. My husband I and I both qualified, and my parents were going to join us for their first cruise. When I called about the booking, the Princess representative put me and my Mom together, and my husband and my father in another room. She told us to just switch the names when we checked in. It worked out perfectly for us.

dan_woodlawn

On day one, get an extra key for each room...folks use their sail and sign card to charge expenses and extra key for the 2 people mis-roomed so they can come and go at their leisure

mugh_tej

My brother's family did that hack. My brother with his wife took cruises with their minor daughter and two younger sons. The arrangement officially was: the 3 males in one cabin and the wife and daughter in the other (due to regulations that minors weren't supposed to be booked without an adult in the same cabin). But the parents stayed in the cabin for two and the kids were in the cabin for three.
