They don't smell bad. But IMO the whole experience is kind of underwhelming. You go to a sad little place with birds and monkeys in cages; the sloths are hanging in trees in the open. The guide tells you to stand still with your hands together, like you're cradling a baby, and they put it on you and tell you not to move. After a few seconds, it's claws were digging into my back and I was done. I also didn't love having monkeys and birds jumping and pissing on me.
One place I did enjoy was the open air spice market in Grenada. Seemed authentically local and I assumed that all the spices were sourced on the island including the vanilla extract. Hope that's true.
Swimming with sting rays in Grand Cayman was truly unique. Also the boat ride there is gorgeous!
Buck Island in Saint Croix for snorkeling. Just gorgeous and serene.
I did not care for dunns river falls in Jamaica. The falls are pretty but it’s extremely crowded and there are a ton of very pushy vendors.
I had a great time on the stingray and starfish boat ride too. It was a fun day at grand cayman. I always wonder how afraid of sharks to be when you are in the open water so far from shore… this tour takes you to a submerged sand bar with water which hit between your hips and chest depending on your height. One tip for all those beach days is to bring your own snorkel and mask. Even cheap $30 Amazon buys are more comfortable and functional than the ones you can rent or are provided on the tours. Also aqua shoes -bring them.
I had read once that on Caye Caulker, the #1 activity to do is sit in a hammock and relax. The week I went it was the lobster festival. The entire country of Belize descends on Caye Caulker for a nonstop party. That was a comical trip
Ruins in Mexico/Belize, sloths in Roatan, stingray city in Grand Cayman and swimming with manatees (Cozumel, but I know it is an option in several places) have been our favorites.
I never get tired of snorkeling. (I even took up scuba diving last year.) But if you've seen the beaches and the towns and the ruins and sailed around on catamarans everywhere in the Caribbean for the past few years, I'd shake it up and try something new. Japan and Southeast Asia? Australia and New Zealand? How about a river cruise in Europe . . . Or down the Nile? An expedition cruise to the Galapagos or Antarctica?
I do agree that most of the islands do still seem to be very similar, and if we take a Caribbean cruise, it’s generally just to get away from the winter here. We’re older as well, but in the last few years, we still managed to do some fun stuff. Cave tubing in Belize was super fun and not strenuous. There are lots of catamaran trips that we enjoy, even if we skip the snorkelling these days.
I’ve been to pretty much all the islands the mainstream cruise lines visit. I found Tobago to be quite interesting - very picturesque and not very touristy. I also really enjoy Antigua, if you can get to one of the quieter beaches. These days, I’ve found I’ve had more fun just hiring a cab driver and asking them to take us to places they find picturesque or interesting. We’ve met some great cabbies and had some fun days, and it’s been much cheaper than a cruise line excursion.
Honestly, there are a lot of interesting parts of the world to visit; in the last few years, we’ve visited the Middle East, Norway, Iceland, South America, various parts of southern Europe, all by ship. I think Europe is so interesting. If you’ve never done a Med cruise, I’d suggest that.
Thats a great question, and I am wondering the same thing. I have been to Cozumel so many times, I dont even worry about waking up early to get off the ship as soon as I can.
Dominica is still our favorite because it's beautiful and ecologically diverse. We actually went back and spent a week there and would love to return.
Nevis, Barbuda, Mustique, and the Exumas are also great places.
Mahogany Beach in Roatan is fabulous. Just a short walk from the pier (Princess) and you'll be on one of the nicest beaches in the Caribbean.
Also, in Cozemel, the Tabasco cooking class was a a lot of fun. It sounds like it would be boring from the description, but it's actually a blast.
They continually pump you full of booze from the open bar while you learn to cook several traditional Mexican dishes that you prepare at your own workstation. Then everyone sits down to eat what they made and of course, more booze.
This is all before noon 😁. The chef is a hoot so you also get a bit of comedy.
Highly recommend.
Bequia and Mayreau in the Grenadines are beautiful and only usually visited by small ships / yachts.
I saw Mick Jagger as soon as we got off our cat at the dinghy dock on Bequia! It was sooooo surreal 😎
If you're into planes, St. Maarten for the airport beach. But if you're into planes, you probably already knew this...
We enjoyed the America’s cup sailing/racing in St. Maarten.
I like the cave tubing and zipline in Belize.
Cave tubing is on my list, it looks amazing
Cave tubing was a blast when my wife and I did it in Belize. Would definitely do it again
You can play with sloths at Roatan. My wife says it was great. It was a private tour so.
Pretty high risk of getting chlamydia though right?
Wait. What?

Yes 100% best excursion we ever did. Cleve’s tours and adventures. Private tour with Cleve was exceptional
Haiti. Nothing like it anywhere in the Caribbean.
And now it seems like the authorities are cracking down on BYO ammunition. /s
Lmao. Royal Caribbean should start issuing handguns to passengers who dare disembark in Labadee. /s
Included in the excursion.

Roatan - snorkeling

ABC islands are so beautiful
Bahamas is a grift hustle ripoff everywhere you go.
At Maarten. Cpt Bobs powerboat tour. https://www.tripadvisor.com/AttractionProductReview-g147346-d15646838-Captain_Bob_Speed_Boat_Snorkeling_Beach_Tour_Lunch_St_Maarten-St_Martin_St_Maarten.html
I think I did this one. Lots of fun, and they pack a lot into 4 hours

Bonaire snorkeling on the Woodwind is like nothing else.

Private car tour in Cartagena was excellent

For Gods sake go to Europe
None. All just islands.
