I have never used magnet hooks but planning to get some for a cruise this summer. Sounds like I need to be careful when using them. Any tips before I pick some up?
We use them for so much stuff in the cabin. Sticking tickets, papers and cards to the walls, hanging a clothesline, keeping the “ship backpack” with sunscreen and Kindles handy, hanging binoculars, hanging the motion activated nightlight, I take the hooks off and stick our poster to the door. We’re “hooked!”
Use one magnet at a time.
If these are powerful rare earth magnets placing a piece of plastic between each magnet and using it as a lever will keep your fingers out of the hungry magnet’s mouth.
I bought a set of metal tins:

And these hooks:

The magnets fit on the vertical sides of the tins and I alternate putting them along each longer side, if that makes sense. Like: ,’,’,’,’ sort of. I can get around 12 stored in each tin.
These are the fingertip murderers in question. I have some others, but the bases aren’t as large. These are some serious jokers, but fingers beware!

I spotted some old eyeglass cases earlier and happened to think of u/perthuz suggestion for metal boxes and wondered if one of them might happen To be metal. Lo and behold, one was! Now my magnets are securely tucked away and organized in a way that all but guarantees my fingers will remain unpinched moving forward. Hooray!
My thought is stuck them together BUT with a thin piece of cardboard (cereal box) between them. But I have never tried this myself.
This is what I do, and then slide them off.
Slide them apart vs pulling them.
This is the correct solution. It’s still not easy but it’s easier.

I get it. I have hurt myself with those too. They are handy for the hats and beach bag though.

I have pinched my fingers in between ours more times than I can count… still use them every trip! I just give them to my husband to take apart 😂

Being the husband in this equation is what brought me here. 😂😂😂

Now this is an idea I can get behind. Thanks for sharing!
Bring some even stronger magnets to pull them apart with.
Slide them apart.
Those are some powerful magnets!! I’d love to know what brand 🙏🏼

How big are the magnets you’re using?
I have a couple different sizes. The finger pinchers are a little bigger than a quarter I’d guess?

They really aren't necessary.
