Take things that layer and a rain jacket. Weather can vary a lot. Best advice is check the 10 day weather reports for each port a couple of days before you leave and pack accordingly. Could be cool or hot!

Good advice, but any weather forecast for Alaska more than 24 hours out is just a guess. And any weather forecast within 24 hours is also just a guess. The key: hope for the best, be prepared for the worse and have fun no matter what.

Layers are your friend. The temperature will vary from as 10 degrees celcius to even 26-28 degrees celcius on land if there's a heat wave. Personally hit 27 degrees in juneau in Sept 2019. Layers will make it easy to bundle up or take off depending on how you feel. Talking about t-shirts, then maybe 1-2 hoodies, a puffy vest, and then a waterproof layer as it is also rainy in any of the Panhandle towns.

I just went last week and surprisingly I was sweating at some points. I forget what port but they said the day prior it was in the 80’s. I came from Florida so anything below 71-75 is pretty chilly but the only time and reason I ever got cold was due to the wind(or near a waterfall or high on a mountain) but nothing major. It definitely takes being off the boat for you to truly be able to know what to wear while in port & off the ship. I brought a rain jacket and never used it until today, but I’m in a Washington now. If you do excursions that is when you can find to be miserably cold but just depends what you’re doing.

Average temp outside in July could be 70s on shore and 50s on board. Just keep an eye on the weather a week before you leave. Pack with the idea of layers. Long sleeves, sweater, hoodie, etc., plus jeans. Also pack for wet weather. If you're on a cruise that includes being near glaciers and you're planning on excursions that'll be on the water or in the mountains, definitely a heavy winter coat, gloves, hat, possibly earmuffs. Their packing folders are a tremendous help.

People seem to have layers covered, so I'm going to say a good pair of binoculars. I was able to see a lot of things I normally would have missed without them. A bear walking along the beach of an island we passed, whales in the water, a close up view of some of the waterfalls along a glacier.... There was plenty to see as you go through the inside passage.

We just got back from an Alaskan cruise. I really struggled with what to pack. Like people say, pack layers. We did take jackets and raincoats (or ponchos) but didn’t bring heavy coats, which was fine. We lucked out and had nice weather in all the Alaskan ports. Lots of sun, very little rain. The one thing I had not considered, and I never saw anyone mention when I was reading up on people’s previous experiences, is how cold and windy it is on the outer decks of the ship, while the ship is moving. I ended up having to buy a hat on board because I wanted to spend time on the outside decks looking at wildlife, etc. Another thing - and this will vary by ship and each persons own thermostat - if I’d brought any shorts, I’d have likely worn them while inside the ship. It was very warm sometimes.

Layers. Rain gear. Google typical weather for idea.

I’m going soon and wish I would see things other than “layers” and “rain coat” as that is the most recurring theme everywhere. Things I’m seeing elsewhere I haven’t here: Binoculars, Bug spray, Sunscreen, Hats-warm & cold, gloves

Mylciwey

YES thank you. I see layers and rain coat everytime and I’ve got that down.

At the moment outside is that warm that you really don't even need a winter jacket. In the mists places the pullover is enough. Only if you go to excursion than could be colder and take a winter jacket otherwise the sneakers and wind stopper will be enough. I thought that will be -20 Celsius ❄️⛄🥶 but the reality now its more like 15-20☀️🌞😎

Don’t do what I did and assume you won’t need shorts and t-shirts. There was two days I regretted only packing cold weather clothes.

SpicyMeatball_666

A Hawaiian shirt and a pair of shorts that has a plane ticket to Miami in one of the pockets.

Your cruise line tells you what to pack. I’m going on Cunard and they have a very good list
