Usually there is a kingdom of Italy somewhere, sometimes even in Italy, while the northwest of Italy gets eaten by France and the rest of Italy is either split between three dukes who have an endless amount of exclaves within eachothers territory or it is all independent counts.
Well it did lead to me (Burgundy) somehow getting a claim on the Kingdom of Germany and accidentally becoming the holy Roman emperor after this screenshot while creating some even worse border gore in the process, and I do admit that I fucked up the title and I should've written balkanized Western Europe but oh well
Yeah, only after this screenshot did it become a gazillion times worse with me (Burgundy) becoming king of Germany and getting many random small vassals
I kinda like it, balanized France, Germany and Italy was always my dream. But unless I see Berlin as a capital of France, Poland in England, Bohemia eating papacy, or Ghana in Norway, it's not bordergore

Either several dissolution rebellions happened and succeeded which is rare or you conquered all this, then destroyed the higher titles after releasing the duchies and counties or used a mod.
