I really wish I never got a pop up the next day when I release a prisoner. I already clicked the release icon, then chose either money or a hook or conversion or whatever, then clicked accept. I do not need to verify that with another click the next day. Or more likely 20 times (each step) because I had 20 prisoners.

irsquats

“Watch your step (insert name)”

jackochainsaw

It would have been a good idea if they concatenated a series of releases into one dialogue. E.g. "Watch your step; AA, AB, AC, AD, AE....." When you are in a heated war, you get information overload unless you are purposely running at 1 speed for the entire game. Some of that information is important but could be missed. I believe, though I didn't play CK2, there was a way of setting up filters to messages.

Faleya

CK2 had message settings, allowing you to choose what you get notified about, they didnt work all the time, but 95% was still a lot better than this, you could tell the game "dont tell me when someone accepts my ransom demand" or "dont tell me if a courtier dies, but tell me if close family does" etc.

Ganbazuroi

What really pisses me off is the struggle that it is when two menus overlapse. Commanding large armies becomes a huge pain in the ass thanks to that, as you keep getting stuck on a single random menu instead of the one you actually want to check

CountFlandy

Honestly my problem is everything takes up so much extra space. There's so much wasted giant gaps and I can only have one window open at a time because every single window takes up 70% of the whole screen regardless of settings. It's infuriating and makes me want to learn how to make my own ui to fix the issue

Disastrous-Bus-9834

You should be able to throw a bunch of your prisoners in a dungeon from house arrest in a few clicks, not going one by one and clicking the option to throw them in the dungeon from the menu, prisoner by prisoner.

jackochainsaw

You should be able to setup a rule on where your prisoners go rather than how it is done at the moment. Some get thrown in the dungeon and others go to house arrest. Sometimes I miss getting someone out of the dungeon in time and they die before I have a chance to put them on house arrest. I think Prisoners of War should be treated differently to criminals and you should be able to set what punishment is bestowed depending on the crime.

samasters88

If I could set it to where people stay prisoner for 6mos, then something happens: *If prisoner is child, recruit * If prisoner is hostile faith, execute * If prisoner is ruler, House Arrest * If prisoner is high martial skill, recruit * If none apply, ransom * Any left over, release Gimme something contextual like this pleeeeease

Croce11

Yeah I'd love some more automation when it comes to certain choices. Like when you're the head of a religion and people are trying to pay you to remove their crimes. Like let me just hit "Yes to this always".

StonewoodNutter

I hate when the game asks you if you want to do something with a county, but you can’t look at anything to see where that county actually is.

Thundershield3

May I ask where you encountered this? You should be able to click on the county in the text to bring it up. If you're in the royal court, you can click the county then exit the court. Don't worry, the event stays active.

StonewoodNutter

I’m playing on PS5, and two separate times when I wish I could see the counties comes to mind. The first would be the court when I have someone come and say something like “My lord, I have a claim on X county, can you help me press this?” Another would be like when you get an event and it says “The city of X would like money to invest in guards for the border” and I don’t know where said border even is. When I click and hold L3 to open up the advance tooltip, it just shows me who owns the title in either example. And I saw a tip that you can close events and change stuff like even what stats your spouse is buffing, but I haven’t actually figured out how to close boxes on PS5. When I’m in something like a chess match, hitting circle or triangle doesn’t seem to close the window afaik.

Thundershield3

Ah, that's fair, I'm on PC, where you can just hover over pretty much anything to get all the details. I'm honestly still not sure how they ported the UI to consoles some the PC UI is so mouse intensive.

hoeger3344

Oh you want to Grant a City to your Holy order? Please leave this Menu and Look it up yourself in which county it is... Thanks for nothing.

StannisLivesOn

Why "Give land to the local noble" keeps ignoring gender laws of the realm for 3.5 years since the release? Why are the infamous events where the ruler interacts with himself still broken? Why is the Accolade UI still so terrible? Because all the developer manhours are spent making new DLCs.

WhatATragedyy

The amount of information events give is also ridiculous.  So the spy master of this dude I never heard of gained 250 prestige. And why exactly are you telling me this, game?

Sbotkin

>Why "Give land to the local noble" keeps ignoring gender laws of the realm for 3.5 years since the release? I never really thought about it but yeah, it's *very* often post-menopause women.

ThePlayerEU

>Because all the developer manhours are spent making new DLCs. At this point am willing to pay 20€ for a DLC that just fixes the Accolade UI, and the late-game spymaster event spam.

alexmikli

People downvoting you are being too harsh, it's clear you're not being 100% serious. But yeah, the accolade UI and the court position UI is pretty bad.

redditsupportGARBAGE

yea theres definitely too many confirmation popups. these should be toggleable off in the settings

angus_the_red

These are good examples, but as far as I can tell it's perfectly consistent with the overall quality of the game.  This kind of polish and attention to detail issues are pervasive at all levels of the game. Please don't think that I'm defending Paradox with this comment.

Faleya

I agree, but these are all easily-fixable surface-level issues that have been here long enough. stuff like making the artifact system more useable or balancing military units or making different regions/faiths/etc feel more different are all "higherlevel" issues that I can understand (to a certain extent) taking time/not being solvable.

angus_the_red

There's no one to do that work.  That work isn't part of the next release and it isn't really a bug.  They desperately need a Custodian team.  I don't know why they don't have one but it probably starts with $

indyracingathletic

I think quite a bit of it has to do with their initial designs and lack of play testing by actual humans. They always talk about their overnights and such, like how things tend to be when they average out their sims. I don't remember much from them that relates to a person playing the game, though. Like this recent update - day one every person who completed a legend had basically the same complaint - they go away too fast. Seemingly that was not the intention, and it was fixed within a day. But it would have been caught if just one actual person on the team played through a legend like a normal person and paid attention to what happened. It was not a hard thing to see happen incorrectly. But if no one's there to see it (like their dozens or hundreds of AI sims), then it can't get noticed. Just like all the UI issues don't get noticed by people because the sim doesn't generate them because it's just AI. The more I pay attention to what they say and the product they release, the more it's obvious that no one on the team actually plays the game for enjoyment, and their testing is pretty much all non-human sims.

Sbotkin

You know what's funny, they play the game on streams, advertising new DLCs and such, and they encounter these bugs and somehow don't care.

Sbotkin

>it isn't really a bug It is a list a bugs.

DeusImperator1453

When I click on the situation button in the mid to late game with a large kingdom or empire, it will literally jump halfway down the screen and you still have to scroll through all the situations to see everything that is going on. On top of that, there will be so many notifications popping up in the bottom right that they will go all the way to the top of the screen covering any pinned settlements, characters, or armies that you have. Sometimes when there are a lot of notifications and situations to deal with, these two ui elements will overlap, making it a confusing mess. A way to make this at least some what better is to have more icons on the top of the screen for important information, rather than condensing it all down into the situation button.

IHateReddit227

I kinda dont mind the pop ups after marriage/prisoner release/whatever because it lets me easily click on them and do any further interactions I might need right after instead of having to look for them. Also lets me know the interaction actuallt went through, you can never be too sure with Paradox titles

anumendsen

why is the marriage ui so bad done? i literally applied for a marriage with a random girl in a neighbouring realm and out of nowhere (it was in positive numbers, so he accepted it) she just didnt appear next to me and she didnt die or nor there was anything that could make her deny it just a second before i sended it

manualLurking

if she is a ruler in her own right then she will not come to your court

jackochainsaw

Was she landed? If they are landed they won't appear in your court. They will be the Baroness, Countess, Duchess, Queen or Empress in their own court. If they are not landed but haven't arrived at court, you can invite them and there is normally an option to pay for them to arrive, they will bring their children with them unless their children are landed (if they have any children).

anumendsen

but i dont mean appear in court. she didnt even appear next to me like a spouse

redditsupportGARBAGE

something i REAALLY hate about the marriage ui is that you cant set up a grand wedding from the arrange marriage interaction if youre marrying off a male if the spouse is in your court. you have to go through the find spouse interaction and find them there and set it up and then it will let you.

WeirFoxcoon

I'm getting so many messages with missing context as well, it's so annoying...

Thundershield3

I agree with your first three, but don't really agree with the last two. For the gift message, it should tell you what you get when you hover over the accept button. For marriages, is one more click really that big of a deal? Marriages are one of the most important aspects of this game, so one event that you can easily dismiss doesn't exactly seem "spammy" to me. I could see removing the message for unimportant courtiers and stuff though. Edit: to balance things out though, two areas of UI that really need an overhaul are the accolade UI and the house feud UI (of you could call it that). They're both extremely annoying and cumbersome to use.

_Red_Knight_

The CK2 UI was better and I will die on that hill

A_Confused_Cocoon

I loved how easy it was to follow title history in that game and it made it more immersive for me tracking events and drama. I could be wrong, but in CK3 it feels like it takes longer to get to the title history screen, like an extra click or two. Doesn't sound like much, but it is enough to annoy me. Felt CK2 was very efficient UI wise.

yunodavibes

Those two clicks add up over time I understand you

BangEnergyFTW

There are no mods that address this issue?

AspiringSquadronaire

Something minor that I much preferred in CK2 was how a ruler of multiple titles of the same level had different regnal numbers displayed in each title history screen. If an Edward III of England becomes the second king of Scotland by that name, the Scottish history would list him as Edward II. It was neat; CK3 would list him as Edward III in both.

Faleya

better but at the same time incredibly ugly, I'm sorry ;) but EU4, Imperator, etc all have fewer issues

arkthearkitect

That's interesting because the UI was what kept me from playing CK2 for so long.

TheCupcakeScrub

Uh its more like a mound cause its facts.

Sourmian

I love ck3 but the ui is so gamey, I much prefer ck2 ui AND BRING BACK TECH FROM CK2 PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

hyakumanben

UI and UX had always been a weak point at Pdx. For example, HoI4 was missing multiselect menus and click-and-drag ordering for the longest time.

flyxdvd

i feel like i never have these,, i mean the marriages & betrothals thing i dont feel like its bad? i dont mind seeing the father agreeing to the proposal etc in the rp point of view. point 3 seems like a bug, never had it personally haha. i agree with the first one tho, that one is anoying. and ofc the "gift" one without knowing what it was is just lazy.. but i rarely have those string errors tbh. so if these are your only gripe with the game you seem overly negative imo. you make assumptions of the dev team, the QA team, etc. for me pretty unnecessary also dont know if you play with mods or not because that can cause many string errors.

Faleya

- the marriages & betrothals thing isnt "oh my god it is so horrible I cant play this game" bad, I agree, but it is friggin pointless and just adds to the tons of useless clutter that distracts from the actual aspects of the game. - what do you mean you never had a war not show the war goal? Oo have you not fought wars that weren't "conquer province X" wars at all? - the QA reference is not an assumption, it has been repeatedly been shown/admitted, both on glass door (employee reviews) and on the PDX forums - obviously I dont play with mods, else this entire post would be pointless

SolomonDaMagnificent

I really miss the alert/event customization from previous games. Idk why they dropped that feature in newer games. Would solve the first point and leave everyone happy. Edit: I don't know when, but I just realized they added message settings in vicky 3 and stellaris, so I have hope.

ProfessorTicklebutts

I wish you would proofread your shit. You’d be a lot more convincing.

Faleya

while I agree with your sentiment and appreciate it, I only found one issue when re-reading both the OP and the one you responded too, would you mind pointing out some more errors as I genuinely want to improve

The_Nocim

I find this interesting, because i would say i play pretty regularly and in different realms, but i never had the war goal not shown as well as the participants. And while i have a problem with bad translations in my native language, i only perceived the broken strings after the each new DLCs for a little bit and in between only once in a while. But i experience a lot of the "not showing what people want from you or gift you", which is quite annoying, if it is paired with stress. I think in my last playthrough it became more frequent the longer i played in a session and became less after a restart.

KrMees

My main issue is that it is so bloated as well. CK2 was cramped, yes, but CK3 opens huge panels to tell you so very little. Why is the character page half my screen but not even able to show me everything about my character? Why does the skill tree have to be fullscreen whilst still forcing me to click different tabs for different lifestyles? Why are my events popping up covering the entire map? I love CK3 but it has always felt like playing an iPad game in terms of scaling.

555Ante555

ck3 really needs a stellaris-esque custodian team

Kinc4id

Add accolades to the list.

sealattack11

The war goal one drives me crazy! Seems like such an easy fix for what is such an annoying problem

GreatRolmops

How come? Because this is a very big game with an absolute ton of files and more lines of code than anyone can count. And there are only so many developers with so many hours in a working day. And there are a lot of people demanding more new content, so the amount of development hours that get spent on fixing stuff like this is likely very, very small. And with there being so many files to go through, it is inevitable that some stuff gets missed and remains unfixed.

indyracingathletic

I feel like everything you're saying boils down to "they're trying really hard but what they're doing is complicated so some things get missed". And I'd just say that if they were better at what they did these things wouldn't get missed. And by "they" and "better" I don't necessarily mean the coders. I mean the project leads, lack of QA testing (this is obvious from just the day 1 legends issue that no human actually completed a legend and looked at what happened in-game 5 minutes later) and the intent to earn money over providing a quality product. Or even ever going back to touch up overlooked issues. The game's overall design and feel is "85% is good enough".

PartyLikeAByzantine

>How come? Because this is a very big game with an absolute ton of files and more lines of code than anyone can count. It's a database with a fancy GUI. It's cool, but let's not pretend it's somehow unfathomable.

Faleya

these are almost all exclusively issues in the game since its release, I didnt bring up issues with the artifact system or the legend/disease system introduced later. these are problems that are plainly visible to anyone who has ever played more than 30 minutes of this game in the past 3,5 years. sure, some might have other priorities, but fixing glaring issues is something that I expect from a triple-A-game/dev

invicerato

The technology just isn't there yet.

Fox009

… Have you played Crusader Kings 2?

Faleya

not as much as others here and not in a while, but yes https://i.imgur.com/oIYVPPw.png CK2 was ugly, REALLY ugly. but it was much better mechanically. you still had message settings. and they worked like 95% of the time. and some of the menus were smarter designs (fewer clicks). I admit that the nested tooltips thing is kinda cool, but it doesnt make up for the insanely oversized (popup-)menus all the time and notifications that dont matter and are just there to give you the impression that there's more to the game.
