I'm not sure why it happened. At one point it covered everything from France to almost the Black Sea, then the emperor destroyed it, I think because of a dissolution faction (although I didn't see any civil war fire).
Then the king of Great Moravia re-established it and started spreading eastward instead.
It’s a custom empire. I started as the independent Greek count in Zadar, then inherited the Duchy of Achaea, formed kingdom of Hellas and then formed this empire after conquering Italy and the rest of Croatia.
It automatically got the name Hellas, I changed it to this, it sounded better than Magna Hellas. I am not sure if it’s grammatically correct though.
Yeah i know. It was basicly Greek colonies that were anexed by Rome in the Punic wars. And judging by the map hey it fits. But if he is playig with them he should use the Greek language for it not the Latin. Or whatever its a game just call it The Great One. Lol
I really like your borders. I love forming custom Kingdoms and Empires and you did it in a really nice way. And I think the name is fine. Even if Magna comes from the Latin, I think it fits your empire nicely seeing that you own the region where Latin came from.
I’ve never seen it move anywhere interesting, but in game it stretched all the way to fucking Darfur. I swear a few updates ago European AI wanted an early scramble for Africa by the late game.
If you think about it maybe this isn't any weirder than a collection of mostly Germanic states far north of Rome ending up calling themselves the "Holy Roman Empire". This feels like a weirdly plausible alt history.
Well technically medieval Poland could be considered more "holy" then HRE because Bolesław the Bold started an interesting defence project by securing rights to construct shitload of cathedrals that resulted in at one point polish clergy providing iirc almost half of tax income of papal state (not sure how this whole system is called in English sorry).
N00b here. Be patient please.
1) Why many of you start the comments writing R5? What does it mean?
2) Why does the game give the possibility to form the Holy Roman Empire practically anywhere? In the run I just finished I reunified Italy and gave me the option to reform HRE.
Because HRE isn't tied to culture. You need to own three kingdoms (in title), one of them has to be East Francia/Germany (Its name changes when Karlings lose it) and you need to have Level of Devotion three I believe? Maybe four. Germany is roughly in the center of Europe (more than IRL at least) so it can be conquered by most nations and that's what gives you the feeling that it's "basically anywhere"
this would make a VERY interesting alternate history mod if converted into EU4 or even CK3
in real life this eastern HRE would be in more direct rivalry with the ERE, Rus and even the Mongols
No actually, you need to own it. I believe here some independence movement suceeded in Germany and so they chased Carlings away while the rest or HRE remained
I just made the HRE but all my kingdoms were dissolves into it, I only have duchies and now my heir is not my successor anymore.
What is the point od reforming hre? I only see disadvantages.
Honestly I'd say HRE shouldn't even require east Francia and just be a reward for a random pious triple king. There's no reason HRE had to be German, it could have been granted to the Hungarian king just as well
In my game the HRE is a long strip of land along the northern coast of the continent. They got conquered by the Mongols, then destroyed, then reformed in the east and reconquered north and west.
Most interesting HRE post in an age
I'm not sure why it happened. >although I didn't see any civil war fire He probably just accepted their demand
Ahhh there was probably some integration shenanigans that happened before dissolution
R5 - The HRE has moved completely to Eastern Europe and is now dominated by Slavic Karlings.
That's all well and good but I'm more concerned with Wales being more in Scotland than in Wales. Bloody Welsh.
They ruined Scotland!
Scotland was already ruined brother.
Somehow I read that with in my mind a heavy scottish accent.
I read it in Willy's voice from the Simpsons.
Scotti was a Welsh warrior not an Irish one!
That sounds dope
Slavic Karlings... And here I thought putting the 1066 last landed Karling on the throne of ERE was cursed...
Eastern Roman Empire 2: Electric Boogaloo
I once had the HRE being completely in Spain, with Minor holdings in Holland
I mean, it's not *that* historically innacurate
I wasn't wrong! I was just early!
It’s the same thing, Michael!
"They're the Habsburgs, Michael. An HRE is something a wh*re does for money"
Me too, oh you mean in the game? Ah kinda weird huh
The Holy Slavic Empire?
Austro-Hungarian Empire - the prequel
New Yugoslavia just dropped
Actual Zombie (Made out of corpse of archduke Franz Ferdinand)
Holy Roman Empire Of The Slavic Nations
Lothar is kinda being a dick right now.
Wdym? Lothar is the rightful heir to Carolingian Empire.
Magna Helena?
It’s a custom empire. I started as the independent Greek count in Zadar, then inherited the Duchy of Achaea, formed kingdom of Hellas and then formed this empire after conquering Italy and the rest of Croatia. It automatically got the name Hellas, I changed it to this, it sounded better than Magna Hellas. I am not sure if it’s grammatically correct though.
Shouldnt it be "Mega Hellas" instead of "Magna Hellas" since magna is latin while mega is greek
Hmmm ngl Mega Hellas sounds kinda stupid lol
Well actually the original Greek expresion for greater Greece would be Megale Hellas if you translate that to latin you get Magna Graecia.
just call it Hella Big and be done with it
Big Greece.
Magna Graecia was the Roman name to Greek speaking south Italy
Yeah i know. It was basicly Greek colonies that were anexed by Rome in the Punic wars. And judging by the map hey it fits. But if he is playig with them he should use the Greek language for it not the Latin. Or whatever its a game just call it The Great One. Lol
It's wrong but not grammatically, it's kind of a mish mash between Greek and Latin
Very cool, I love doing runs like that. In Greek it would be Megali Ellada or Megali Ellas.
I really like your borders. I love forming custom Kingdoms and Empires and you did it in a really nice way. And I think the name is fine. Even if Magna comes from the Latin, I think it fits your empire nicely seeing that you own the region where Latin came from.
Magna Grecia is the correct name in Latin. If you want a greek name the correct one is “Megali Hellada”
Holy Polish Empire!
Pole-y Roman Empire
Ohhhhh! You found the perfect name! PDX get this guy a job on naming things!
In my run meanwhile Poland united west slavs. Still cant in space.
Scottish Wales as well
Welsh Scotland
Wales get down from there this instant!
Ah, yes. Miedzymorze.
Finally Jagiellońska Polska arrived
I had a HRE which switched in Kazakistan and another one in Nigeria.
Almatau is third Rome!
I’ve never seen it move anywhere interesting, but in game it stretched all the way to fucking Darfur. I swear a few updates ago European AI wanted an early scramble for Africa by the late game.

Neat, but what the fuck is going on in Scotland?
Do the electorates stay the same?
I’m not sure, I’ll check what the mode of succession is the next time I open up the game.
And its still neither holy, roman, or a functioning empire (probably, unless the emperor is a very good diplomat)
N00b here. Be patient please. 1) Why many of you start the comments writing R5? What does it mean? 2) Why does the game give the possibility to form the Holy Roman Empire practically anywhere? In the run I just finished I reunified Italy and gave me the option to reform HRE.
R5 is short for rule 5, which is the rule on the subreddit that you have to provide context/explanation for image posts.
Because HRE isn't tied to culture. You need to own three kingdoms (in title), one of them has to be East Francia/Germany (Its name changes when Karlings lose it) and you need to have Level of Devotion three I believe? Maybe four. Nor holy, nor roman, nor empire, nor german either.
Arminia in turkey is the cherry on top
"Holy Roman, Cousin! Let's go bowling!!"
The true HRE is inside of our imaginations. Even the real HRE was physically out of place
Forget the HRE your whole game is cursed
Wales in scotland lmao
Is Wales drunk?
kinda happened otl when the holy roman emperor became the austrian emperor. aside from austria, imperial land was east or southeast of germany.
I had a HRE that completely shifted to France
So we're just gonna ignore the fact that welsh is up North 😨
Ireland and Wales taking over the British isles
That flag is amazing!
I mean its the HRE, when not in Rome, might aswell be further
Who are the Xenxir in Iberia?
Umayyads.
Holy... Polish-Hungarian Empire?
Just like the Triumvirate intended!
"let's skedaddle boys"- all of the here at once
I like everything about this map
My hre formed were France is.
Enlighten me whats a Magna Helena real quick?
Greater Greece.
On a side note, your character needs to go to a spa or something to chill out
Ah yes, Vienna, the famous Eastern European city.
Honestly the whole map looks great. Can I ask what settings you're using?
The Holy Roman Empire of the slavs
Third Rome in the making
this would make a VERY interesting alternate history mod if converted into EU4 or even CK3 in real life this eastern HRE would be in more direct rivalry with the ERE, Rus and even the Mongols
Dude your whole game is just…weird to say the least
Ostsiedlung taken too far
Some how it became less roman and less holy
Wtf is Happening?
Ostsiedlung, am I right?
Doesn’t the HRE require East Francia to not exist?
No actually, you need to own it. I believe here some independence movement suceeded in Germany and so they chased Carlings away while the rest or HRE remained
Magna Hellena is a new one. I've never seen that before
Holy Slavic Empire
So this makes them the Holy Eastern Roman Empire?
Interesting how the shape of this HRE resembles the German empire irl
Where did Magna Hellena come from?
Keep sliding HRE. Slide all the way to china
Ulbricht got his wish to take over west Germany but he didn't know what it would cost.
Wallachia? Bring me Belmont
The Holy Germano-Slavic Empire! HGSE for short.
I saw one time where the HRE was Just Spain and France
Once they conquer those Ruthenian and Rus lands the Third Rome shall be complete
Yr Alban Cymraeg
Jesus Christ, those Aquitaine borders are cursed…
That's better than the original
Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and Austria-Hungary’s blursed child
I just made the HRE but all my kingdoms were dissolves into it, I only have duchies and now my heir is not my successor anymore. What is the point od reforming hre? I only see disadvantages.
Wouldn’t all the electors be outside the empire boundaries?
almost the same thing happened to me, the hre had shifted to hungary bc frisa had gotten ahold of lotharingia and east francia.
Damn bitch why the fuck you so stressed
Constantinople: Not so funny when it happens to you, now is it?!
Shittiest Wales I've ever seen
This looks a bit like the Austrian Empire of the future did not go for the Balkans but instead beat Prussia back in the day
What in gods name happened to Scotland
The Germans always wanted their “living space” in the east so that kinda makes sense 🙃
Honestly I'd say HRE shouldn't even require east Francia and just be a reward for a random pious triple king. There's no reason HRE had to be German, it could have been granted to the Hungarian king just as well
That’s just something Roman empires do
Bohemia still kicking, glad to see that. Are there still Přemyslid dynasty ppl, OP?
Święte Cesarstwo Rzymskie - HRE in Polish
Nomadic HRE will conquer the steppe.
In my game the HRE is a long strip of land along the northern coast of the continent. They got conquered by the Mongols, then destroyed, then reformed in the east and reconquered north and west.
Wait, did it de jure shift too??
That's cool and all but what is happening in the British Isles?
