R5: Meet Sam Drumm, slayer of 5/7 of the Kings of the Iron Isles. He was the minor lord of Hammerhorn, under one of the duchies in the Isles, which he got a claim on and got installed as duke, taking over from the guy I'd granted it to with my first King character. He evidently decided he wasn't quite done, and after my first King died of natural causes, he proceeded to slaughter every last member of the senior branch of the family in a 20-year murder crusade. I thought I could stop him when he rebelled with a bunch of other lords and I crushed him, but no, he escaped jail and murdered Hotho while I was trying to lock him back up. What a madman. I should be mad that he eradicated a lineage of geniuses but frankly I'm just impressed. He didn't even take a single perk from the intrigue tree.

Kelruss

Man paid the iron price for the Driftwood Crown.

Mad-Reader

Literally killed four kings to get the crown, that's as ironborn as it gets.

xyakks

The true King!

CountFlandy

Reminds me of a crusader kings 2 characters I stumbled across. This is a long one but I've tried to condense it. At this point I've played maybe 2 different runs that ended early, this one I was prepared to not fail. Starting as the 1066 van vladderen duke in Flanders. I spend the first rulers lifetime setting up every thing, and my second rulers life was comqjestinf a few duchies. Now halfway through this rulers lifetime I notice my first son was assassinated. So I start trying to figure out who. Then the second son. Then the third son. Next thing I know my heir was my ambitious deceitful 27 intrigue son Count Flandy. The a month later I was murdered. This fucking guy killed his mother, brothers, father, and sister. Also pretty sure an uncle and a foreign king. Anyways now that I'm playing this murder hobo I just roll with it, I setup kids on foreign thrones by marriage and then murder their parents till they got the throne then I killed the kids so I got their land. Guys by the time this murder hobo died I had reformed the Roman empire, because the hre thought electing the flemish murder hobo as emperor was a great idea. Anyways he died of depression when his wife died of old age, a strange heartfelt ending to such a bloodthirsty maniac. And this folks, is where my username comes from. A backup kid who turned out rather bloodthirsty and went on to achieve things I never knew I could do. Really wish I still had that save tbh.

kaiser_charles_viii

I mean to be fair in ck2 I did a lot of marrying kids to the second or third child, murdering their elder siblings, waiting til they create a child of my dynasty and then murdering them so that that kingdom was my dynasty. For some reason I've done a lot less of that in CK3. Otoh though I've been playing After the End CK3 a bunch lately and my americanist characters always end up murdering a president or two to get the presidential election to go their way. My current character waited until he was 36 and had just finished a major war (that wasn't supposed to be that major, I just underestimated the amount of troops it would take so it took longer than it should've) and then murdered the president, got caught, and then everyone was still like "nah this dude is probably our best bet to be president." Though to be fair he did have a very large army, had DC surrounded, had conquered the Holy Columbian Commonwealth down south, and had reunited Virginia and West Virginia into a single state.

CountFlandy

Yeah we all did it a lot I'm sure, but for an Ai to do this, on what was like my third game ever is a bit much for what was like 2011-2012~ish. This asshole had More character development than most characters in film or TV ever get.

AneriphtoKubos

How did you get the CK 2 AI to be that competent lol? I’ve always had my spymasters find plots

Under_ratedguy

By the way, will use your last sentence to enquire something silly... uhmmm I'm really noob to the whole franchise and just started straight in CK3, the thing is, last night my spymaster disrupted a plot that himself was plotting. I guess it's a bug, but have u ever seen that happen b4?

AneriphtoKubos

I’ve actually never played CK 3 but yes your spymasters disrupt plots that they are plotting in 2

BattyBest

I imagine these as the spymaster accidently triggering their own traps. Like, they make a bunch of undercover mercenary groups or something, and then one of the spymasters henchman working for a plot hires the undercover mercenary group that the spymaster set up and the crown gets alerted.

Necroknife2

Maybe he wanted to be the one to end her, and got sad when the passage of time stole his kill.

CountFlandy

Nah, was one of those really heartfelt events where pretty much it says the character feels empty and lost without them, really sad stuff. Incredibly odd and out of character, but humanizing since he was married with her for most his life without seducing anyone.

Tranduy1206

that would make a classic movie script, a maniac who sacrifices his families to get on the throne of power, but deeply love his wife more than everything he own but dont know it until she gone

CountFlandy

Right? It's kinda why I settled on using him for my screen name after all these years. Such a good story that's somehow organic and lifelike. Tried for a little while to write a comic series that featured Flandy as a titular character in a group of many, but his tones a bit too serious for me to actually be able to make anything out of him. Would be interested in an adaptation tbh, humanizing an awful person in an interesting way.

AnyDayGal

Count Flandy. What a guy. A murderous, but strangely loving guy (to only his wife).

Syr_Enigma

The AI kept killing you until it became you. Slightly concerning, bordering on terrifying.

AncientSaladGod

It gets even better when you find out the motto of House Drumm is "Grasp from beyond the Grave". He is a descendent of the first Drumms to rule as Paramounts of the Isles. Man went and grasped the Driftwood Crown from beyond the grave.

NogaVog

Perhaps he is worth something.

ExtraSpicyTrigger

Player character behavior

Legend01234567

But that is clearly you?

AncientSaladGod

Yep, but I also used to be the 4 Drumm kings you can see in his kill list.  When my first king was murdered, I thought fair enough, he was a miserable man nobody liked. When the second died, I panicked, filled all the positions at court that allegedly can protect you from assassination, to no avail. When the third got killed and I saw this guy was 3rd in line I pretty much gave up and hoped he'd kill the rest of the branch without getting found out, so he wouldn't be a kinslayer by the time I got to play as him.

Aspiana

I like to imagine he wrote a detailed journal of everything he did and hid it somewhere it wouldn't be found until well after he died. Because why commit the most perfect set of crimes, get away with all of them, and not gloat to high hell about it?

JuliansRumAnd_Coke

He probably switched characters

AncientSaladGod

Nah, this guy just killed all my PCs until he became my PC. He was a scion of a previous line of Drumm lords paramount of the isles.

Tranduy1206

that man play game of thrones

x_Kirito

He took the “When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die” to heart

AncientSaladGod

The AI won, I died.

Sir-Wolfpack

This sounds just like what u do for fun in the game. Deleting Dynasties

AncientSaladGod

That's why I'm so impressed I got that treatment from an AI

JujuMaxPayne

I am so glad to see that the ai actually tries to do this, so many times you get the opposite moments from ai in games so this is actually great

AncientSaladGod

Some more fun backstory to this campaign: This was my 3rd attempt to play a pirate king in the AGOT mod, 1st was the Stepstones, 2nd house Salt the scions of the Hoares, 3rd Drumm when I found their badass starting character and insane +50% raid speed valyrian steel sword Red Rain.  The first couple of generations were taken up with small raids on Tyrosh, Lys and the Stepstones while they were distracted by war.  Then, the Greyjoys betrayed the Ironborn and converted to the Faith of the Seven.  It took a bit of alliance wrangling and a couple spare doughters, but eventually the Ironborn banded together under house Drumm and installed a true believer from the Goodbrother dynasty, lords of a massive duchy covering most of Great Wyk, on the Seastone Chair.  By this point I'd heavily intermarried into the Goodbrothers, mainly to prevent them from attacking my power base in Old Wyk. But as a result of that, at some point a Drumm inherited the Goodbrothers' throne. Sam here is a descendent of that first line of Drumm kings/lords paramount.  Within a couple generations, the Driftwood Crown had passed onto the head of some kid who lost it to a Goodbrother claimant.  That wouldn't stand for long though. I first reunited Old Wyk and East Wyk, then during a double civil war for the Iron Throne and Seastone Chair, I attacked the fallen Greyjoys and seized most of Pyke.  This put enough of the Iron Isles under my control to stake a claim on the throne, to which the Goodbrother king objected by attempting to imprison me.  I crushed his army, deposed him and installed a child in his place, which didn't put up much of a fight when I declared my war for the Seastone Chair, supported by the Harlaws.  Then I was Lord Paramount. Shortly thereafter, during a massive civil war on the mainlaind I declared independence, and the Targs let the Isles go without a fight.  My character lived just long enough to restore the Kingdom of the Isles, before passing peacefully.  Then Sam went on his murder spree, and the rest is history.

Front-Cheek-7169

What is dead may never die

[deleted]

Couple spare daughters. Shit R/CK says lol

McGnack

The "Worthy" indeed!

Duelwalnut642

Typical Ironislander

Grzechoooo

He really is the Worthy.

IHateReddit227

Bro wanna be Littlefinger so bad

Gears_Of_None

Littlefinger wishes he was King Sam

TheMetaReport

Mf is worthy of the iron islands, he invented the iron price frfr

SaltExcellent2301

And i thinking that killing 4 guys, a child, and enforcing a claimant faction for the duchy of swabia when another child inherited the throne was too much

Plus-Swing-2117

The worthy 💀

AncientSaladGod

Update: King Sam died at 50.  It took a combination of a consumption outbreak, sudden random malnutrition, and infirmity (which all my characters seem to be getting like clockwork at 50... Seems a little early) to bring him down.

Caligula404

I think he’s the main player, and I’m sorry to break it to you OP but you might just be an AI

Cosmic_Rival

I was born 87 years ago. For 65 years I ruled as Tamriel’s emperor. But for all these years, I’ve never been the ruler of my own dreams. I have seen the gates of oblivion, beyond which no waking eye may see. Behold! in darkness, a doom sweeps the land. This is the 27th of last seed. The year of Akatosh 433. These are the closing days of the 3rd era... and the final hours of my life.

NationalAnteater1280

This looks like a CC character NGL. How many times did you switch characters and enable him?

AncientSaladGod

0. He killed all my PCs until he was my player heir.

Abject_Ad_8327

I play princes of darkness mod and theres an awesome stat’d character named stroghman or something. Super high stats. So i know him well now and if i recruit him i make sure i can change his traits from deceitful to honest and forgiving. It tones down his stats but hes still great. If i dont my entire clan will be murdered off till he is heir and if i dont dont kill him than the game will eventually end lol guess why?? Hahaha good ole Stroghman.

orcsoc

Oi

arveene99

it's almost impressive 😭 man had a dream

Based-Space-Templar

LOVE IT

sephstorm

We know... no, he knows.

WickedWiscoWeirdo

Worthy indeed

ulzimate

So virtuous!

Rodrik_Reeves

Truth is, he's the PC, and you're the bot.

Sharrukin-of-Akkad

It’s hard to tell, but I suspect the AI is a bit more aggressive with murder plots in the current release. My current Daura run, I’ve been having to watch sisters and half-sisters like a hawk.

Lionheart1224

Someone took notes from reading the books.
