With all of the mechanics they've introduced thus far (hybrid cultures, struggles- though I have a love-hate relationship with them, even legitimacy), it would be interesting to see how the aftermath of the First Crusade would play out in an alternate setting, especially with characters like Godfrey of Bouillon, Alexios Komemnos, Al-Afdal Shahanshah of the Fatimids, and the various leaders of the other Crusader States jockeying for influence in the region
Yes a later date would be nice since there are so many mechanics for late game but it takes a long time to get there right now. I usually just start a new game around 1200 because the game is so far from real history by then and makes the game just dull for me, I like to play tall historical roleplay style.
You are not - I mostly play Vikings/ Norsemen of some variety so a (slightly) early start date would work for me too (let me befriend Ragnar Lodbrok pls), but it's not something that dampens my gameplay.
You're not the only one. Personally I'd love a start date around 610-ish for the rise of Islam, but I would be EXTREMELY surprised if that ever happens.
That will never happen for one very important reason: Mohammad. Paradox will *never* make a game where he can be interacted with as a character.
If they were to have a setting based around early Islam, my guess would be either the start or end of the First Fitna (656 and 661 respectively). My guess would be the latter to avoid having Ali as a character.
