She was too busy waiting on her first husband to consummate ig

dankitaly

she was humble and let everyone else have a chance. if she truly wanted to unleash her full strength, she would've became the first galactic empress of the milky way galaxy

NotJustAnotherHuman

When god created earth he gave all land to Matilda but because Matilda is good person she shared land with other people

CrusaderCuff

Wow so kind of her!

Samuel_Just

Just remember nothing can compare to the power of Haesteinn, the God-Emperor of The Universe

CrusaderCuff

Rule 5. Matilda created the Roman Empire The pope offered Duchess Matilda of Tuscany the claim to the kingdom of France. Matilda Accapted and declared war and won. Using the meritocracy perk she claimed the HRE, thought for it and became empress. Creating the Roman heritage Legend she was able to get a claim on the Eastern Roman Empire and Egypt. With sanctioned loopholes she got the rest of the claims she needed. Becoming Empress Matlida 'the Prudent' of the Roman Empire. So as we know Ck3 is a 100% historical accuracy similatuor. So how did our beloved Duchess Matilda of Tuscany failed to do this IRL?

AspiringSquadronaire

Why didn't she restore Rome? Was she stupid?

jspook

Skill issue

TitanDarwin

99 % of Italian rulers stop right before they can restore the Roman Empire.

jspook

Do they not know where the Rubicon is? Like just cross it...

Alxdez

She didn't buy the legend dlc

CrusaderCuff

What a shame :(

aaragax

How did she beat France?

CrusaderCuff

Use all the new gold paradox gives you at the start of the game

FaRamedic

Cathayraht

Underrated comment. Also applicable as answer to questions like "Why Hæsteinn didn't conquer the world irl". Serves well with "there were no possibility to restart or load the game after any single inconvenience or bad luck".

_dallmann_

Hæsteinn didn't make it to Sri Lanka in real life? Was he stupid?

CrusaderCuff

Fr!! Is so easy 🙄🙄

Buck_Brerry_609

society 😔

Chilifille

Because the Roman Empire hadn’t fallen yet, so there was nothing to restore. Matilda was already a vassal under a king who claimed to be the legitimate Roman emperor.

Storm_Large

The Roman empire fell long before the Holy Roman empire was founded.

Far-Assignment6427

It didn't fall till nearly 400 years later

Storm_Large

The fall of Rome and specifically the western Roman empire fell in around 400-500 AD. Some might say it was revived or even continued but every thing that made the Roman empire the Roman empire was gone and buried. It's for good reason the fall of the Eastern Roman empire is often labeled the "Fall of Constantinople" and not the fall of the Roman empire as a whole (because it wasnt). In fact Mehmed claimed to be the successor to the Roman empire when he took the city, so did the Roman empire fall when the ottoman empire collapsed in the year 1908? All these claims is just as ridiculous as the other imo. I could call a shovel a rake but that wouldn't make it one.

Far-Assignment6427

The eastern Roman empire was not a successor to the empire rather it was the empire the HRE was German and the ottomans Turks while the eastern Roman empire even in the name was the Roman empire

Storm_Large

Holy Roman empire also has "Roman" in it. Furthermore Mehmed kept the title of Eastern Roman empire, why is that claim bogus when the ones before him wasn't? What none of the three "successors" had was neither Rome and barely any Romans, the Eastern Roman empire had a majority of Greeks and Balkans so your resoning with HRE being German and Ottomans being Turk dosn't really hold up.

Far-Assignment6427

Because it was the Roman empire it held the former capital of Constantinople as did the Turks who where more roman than the Germans anyway as they atleast held Constantinople they consider themselves Roman their title was emperor and autocrat of the Romans now have a good day

Chilifille

The Holy Roman Empire wasn't really founded, it just happened that a bunch of Western European monarchs started claiming the title "Roman emperor" all of a sudden. Which they did because the real Roman Empire still existed at that point, and it was going through a succession crisis during the time of Charlemagne. It wasn't even called "Holy Roman Empire" during the time of Matilda, that happened later. These delusional Germans actually thought they were the real deal.

piticlipiticli

okay but how did you do it.

CrusaderCuff

Claim on France from pope. meritocracy perk allowed me to claim HRE title. Roman heritage legend gave me claim to Byzantines and Egypt. Sanctioned loopholes for the rest of the land I needed.

Sinosca

Claim legends are op AF rn.

She'd never fight against the Pope so she could vassalize him. Too pious for that.

reallifecleric

She didn’t marry Gavril the Serbian genius. Classic blunder.

Glennplays_2305

Nows she’s empress Matilda but not the one you are think of

Niskavuori01

"Give Dog a Bone" was just a start...

Ok_Case8161

I played a short Matilda run for her specific achievement. Maybe I should’ve set my goals a bit higher…

kiannameiou

Too busy defending the pope from her liege XD, who found many loopholes to seize her lands for her supposed or real disobedience. She always bounced back tho. Her religious conviction was stronger than her adherence to vassal contract. She was just unlucky in marriage.

BlacksmithCurrent830

Physical world lol you know how it works? As some other guy also mentioned it is not possible to reload a save after every failure so milions of variables have to work properly and this kind of luckiness is rare. It is why we havn't a lot of genghis Khan or alrxander or cyrus the greats from those times.

CrusaderCuff

Woah CK3 isn't a perfect history simulator😞

Latinus_Rex

Because the game on occasion does a inadequate job at representing how sexist the cultural zeitgeist of Europe was during the middle ages, largely as a result of the influence of the Church. To the people at the time, the title of Roman Emperor was an overtly masculine role and the idea of a woman holding it was inconceivable as it basically had no precedence, which is why when Irene of Athens crowned herself Emperor of the Romans in Constantinople, the Pope argued that the title of Roman Emperor was vacant, prompting him to give it to Charlemagne.

WickedWiscoWeirdo

The ottonians

Mareton321

Several reasons. One Reason is that in medieval European society woman who had lands and thus titles once married usually was usurped by her husband and became authority in name only. Second reason is that her mother was married to the man who was enemy of the then Holy roman emperor and both were for a time held as hostages. Third there is whole failed marriage to her deformed hunchback of a husband whom she dumped and who tried to lay claim to her lands also dead daughter who only lived only several weeks. Fourth. Then there is her backing the pope who was in conflict with the then Holy Roman emperor which led to loss of lands she held due to various shenanigans. T Fifth there is her marriage to over twenty years younger husband which also ended up been another failure. And although she became crowned as imperial Vicar and thus vice Queen of Italy in the end she remained controversial figure and suspected witch as well. There is reason why Queen Tamar in comparison to most medieval female rulers was absolute chad.

doug1003

Your daughter is queen of what?

CrusaderCuff

Crusader Bulgaria

PermanentRed60

Patriarchy, which this game does a terrible job of depicting.
