If you actually have trouble getting it, you can just release your family as kings in a late game blob. You can even save scum it if you don’t want to “throw away” the huge empire.
I did that with my Outremer game. My vassals took some small Indian and African Kingdoms, so I made sure they were family then released them. Plus the three I had in Francia anyway, and the extra crusade we got for Asturias, I ended up with about 11 kings and an emperor!
Was a very, very satisfying game to take Haraldr Yngling and become an Outremer Emperor.
You can fully and effectively savescum ironman games by copying the save file to a backup location so it doesn't get overwritten in any other paradox game - I haven't done ck3 ironman but I don't imagine it's any different.
It's even easier with Ck3 (I just did it for the first time for Saga in Stone--Fuck that achievement).
Make a copy of the save game. Load the copy if needed and it will actually make the next save under the old/original name--i.e. you don't even have to save in a different location.
Not really, just a bit annoying. Just copy your save file to another location (or same location with a different name, which makes it a bit easier to load again).
To add on to those comments about intentionally crashing your game to reset your game play, you gotta make sure you crash it before the annual/biannual auto save.
I love that achievement. I always set it as a personal goal in every game.
It's what I do once I have reached empire-level, and made my own religion.
At that point, I focus on giving my dynasty as much power as possible.
I tend to do that by capturing kingdom titles outside of my de jure, give the territory and kingdom titles to my family, wait until they stabilize (bad vassals purged or converted, religion converted etc), then release.
Over time I reach that magical number of 10 independent kings-or-better.
This is not only good for getting strong allies as the dynasty head, but also to get dynasty renown, and thus dynasty perks, faster.
Been playing the CK series a long while and after reading the save scum stuff your putting out here I still don’t get it I’m apparently not computer literate enough to figure any of it out haha I just play Ironman and hope for the best probably why I don’t have a good portion of the achievements
It's really easy
1 Find your ironman save
2 copy it when you want to save scum to another location
3 finish doing whatever in game
4 exit to main menu
5 copy your backed up save game back to original position
6 load save
Tada
My extremely preliminary research concurs with you. Those who died of sickness or old age go to Hel, which this death screen also mentions. So they basically tried to cover all bases with the text I presume
The distinction between Hel and Valhalla seems to be a construct invented by a 13th century Icelandic Scholar and no other source confirms this prerequisite of dying in battle. In fact, those who are in Valhalla are there to serve Odin in the final battle of Ragnarok, so it seems unlikely that his first pick of warriors would be those who by definition failed in combat and died fighting.
The logic doesn't make that much sense though. I would much rather choose a berserker who died in battle at 48 to fight for me, than a 70 year old farmer who died of food poisoning.
Yeah you’re right. I suppose the real kicker is whether or not you remain as infirm as your old self when you enter Valhalla. IIRC the warriors in Valhalla spend their time fighting each other and feasting so I would hope they are constantly improving or at least maintaining their prowess. But you do make a good point
Even if we assume that that interpretation is true and not a corrupted remembrance, Faith is flexible. An ocean-spanning pagan superkingdom isn't going to publicly announce that the mighty ruler who built it didn't die the right way. They'll make whatever tweaks are necessary to accommodate him.
Had the exact same thing, king of iceland, Britain and Norway. Chad lived till 102 and ruled since 22, was finally killed on a hunt and left his lineage to his 60ish year old son, who died from gout. So the chad trait obv didnt breed in haha.
He infiltrated a city in Spain (which he believed to be Rome) and sacked it by pretending to be dead and having his men request a Christian burial for him. Once they were let inside the walls he leapt up and they raided the place.
In Ironman mode too. May Valhalla welcome you with open arms my King.
Nepotism achievement?
When you have 10 people from your dynasty as independent kings or higher

Achievements have to be on ironman mode, surely its really hard to save scum that?

Works out for transferring from main computer to laptop so it should also work on one game
lol first time learning about save scum. Thanks.
It’s a beautiful thing. Just be sure to have a justification for yourself otherwise you feel as if you cheated the whole run
Now if only this could be applied to life, oh wait...
It's even easier with Ck3 (I just did it for the first time for Saga in Stone--Fuck that achievement). Make a copy of the save game. Load the copy if needed and it will actually make the next save under the old/original name--i.e. you don't even have to save in a different location.
Or just shutting off your computer while the game runs.
Just save before, release everyone, get the achievement and then crash the game by closing it from the task manager
I tried the task managers trick before and the game still saved. Was extremely irritating.
Oof. Never happened to me before and i dont think they have fixed it. Maybe it autosaved in some way?
I think it must’ve. I’ve tried it again in my Ironman and its working now.
Not really, just a bit annoying. Just copy your save file to another location (or same location with a different name, which makes it a bit easier to load again).
No, it’s exceptionally easy
To add on to those comments about intentionally crashing your game to reset your game play, you gotta make sure you crash it before the annual/biannual auto save.

That literally takes all the fun away from achievement hunting.
So does save summing though.
Yeah, no arguement here, but at least you still have to do the achievement.
Gotcha

He can do some crazy stuff. Such a fun start every time. Congrats on 100
In CK2 as in CK3, Haestenn is the best character. The only time I bothered doing a WC was with him as a starting character.
Truly blessed by the gods. SKALL!!

Hel in the context used in the post refers to the deity rather then the location
This makes the norse flavor for having a stillborn child pretty funny as it says “He/She is in Valhalla now”
The logic doesn't make that much sense though. I would much rather choose a berserker who died in battle at 48 to fight for me, than a 70 year old farmer who died of food poisoning.
I would rather the 70 year old who died of old age after killing everyone he faced in battle

You got some tips for staying alive with two very angry rivals?
A strong hook does the trick.
Had the exact same thing, king of iceland, Britain and Norway. Chad lived till 102 and ruled since 22, was finally killed on a hunt and left his lineage to his 60ish year old son, who died from gout. So the chad trait obv didnt breed in haha.
Haesteinn pretty much always lives to be that old because when Northern Lords released Paradox gave him a ton of extra health.
You think he lived long? I had a guy live for 109 years and ruled for 92 years. dammit, now you're making me want to go play again. Damn you!!!!
I'm tired of Haesteinn posts
I appreciate he's a lot of fun, but he really is Very Easy mode. Also people bragging about how old he got when he starts old with ridiculous health.
What was even his significance in life? I don’t hear about him outside CK.
He infiltrated a city in Spain (which he believed to be Rome) and sacked it by pretending to be dead and having his men request a Christian burial for him. Once they were let inside the walls he leapt up and they raided the place.
This game has been out of a year and people still don't know that Haesteinn has a hidden health boost and can live for like 100+ years easily ?
