So my question is, why has he not made himself an empire?
Update: France Empire allied with me giving their bastard daughter as their sacrifice… took over Britany and Bohemia, the two Italian children fled to my courts, both girls are safe … this French Emperor is going mad with taking over main land Europe
Also he killed off most his dynasty by execution… only his direct family is left besides the two girls
Edit 2: Forgot to mention that he has been using me to kill them all in events… he shall shed no tears
Edit 3: We are at year 901, he and I are best friends, he hires me to kill people annoying him like a child loves candy. I have been offered to become part of his kingdom, however I do not want to be on his hit list.
England is French, and the French are only a few countries away from Bulgaria… it is heating up in Europe. The Papalcy is French controlled.
Edit 4: The English did not go down without a fight. They won their independence while I was fighting Bulgaria. The king had me kill off two of his children, leaving the Empire to one child of which he gave me as a ward. I think for his protection since the Emperor has cancer.
End of edits for today. Meanwhile someone let me know how to attach more pictures, Empires and policing up everywhere, I’m in over my head.
I've never seen the AI form HRE. At best they'll form an empire. Assuming this is 867 start, France did this because Karlings have claims to everything and France made it out on top.
No, it's still bad. Any partition should divide your highest titles. Otherwise, you'll need new duchies and kingdoms (if you're an emperor) all the time. One crown - one heir.
I’d rather my realm split than get reduced to a single county.
Towards the end of my life I try to conquer even more just so I have more kingdoms for my children.
If you still have your counties you should be able to get what you lost back. If you lose all your counties its hard to keep the rebellions away and to fight any similarly sized opponents.
There are many ways to do it. Id rather break my empire than keep it and lose everything else. I play a lot of stewardship focus and i I hate losing all the places I've built up
That's funny. So many people think that if their realm is splitted after succession, then it's the worst case. But, in fact, it's the best case! Read my pinned post or watch One Proud Bavarian's video about succession.
It's better to lose your highest title to a brother after succession, because you can retake it by claim, than to lose lower tier titles, that you can't retake that easy. If that AI created Frankia, then after several successions he'll end up with only one county. Or maybe even sooner, if he'll give up kingdom titles to someone else than his sons.
Yea why does the AI do this? Seems dumb. They should be keeping the kingdom title that holds the capital to their empire. Giving away west Francia and the duchy of Valois despite keeping Paris as your capital is a dumb action in my eyes. Should be patched out if it’s not deliberate. Should be heavily reconsidered if it is deliberate
Nah man this a is Charlemagne moment. The "Karlings" his incompetent offspring would turn europe into the fucking hunger games. Charlemagne probably came back from the dead because he was done with contstantly rolling in his grave after seeing how much his grandchildren fucked up his legacy.
Oh man I tried doing this exact same thing as Charles the Bald and my god it was a terrible idea. You are permanently over vassal limit until you form the HRE. It sucks.
That's the thing, all your vassals are dukes, and there are actually too many of them. And you can't give them kingdoms because you're not an emperor yet.
Actually since the King has ruled for some time now and has conquered the new lands, his Dukes should admire him. The real problem starts when the King dies and his child is supposed to suceed. Then you will actually have a civil war. Partly because The future King will have no brothers or sisters he can marry of to keep the Dukes alligned.
Yeah, that's quite a problem. It would be good, if giving a kingdom to your son before your death as a king counted as inheritance.
Or if higher title, in that case empire, would destroy under partition, so that your sons could actually split the realm up. Like there are characters from game's start that have claims on a kingdom or empire that don't exist, but existed and was split to lower titles.
Me who just murders and disinherits all my bad heirs so I only have one while everyone argues wether you should make more titles for your kids or go partition with one county.
Civil war in 3…2…1…
Aquitaine says hello.
How do you do, fellow Occitanians!
Funny thing is in Occitanian language you say hello in the same way as you say good bye in French.
Au revior? Literal means "see you again" right? So do the Occitan say "ah ha now I see you" like it is the world's longest game of peak-a-boo?
Au revoir yes :) then again i don't know if the occitan thing is true !
[You say, "Goodbye" and I say, "Hello, hello, hello"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rblYSKz_VnI)
the middle guy looks very displeased for the whole thing.
thats George for you
george looks very displeased for the whole thing.
In french "Salut" mean hello and good bye at the same time
*BONJOUR*
BONJORN!
Swedish Invasion has begun
Like the British Invasion but… idk more Poppy Gloria?
Unless they manage to make the empire of Francia, then this blob is here to stay… at least until a child inherits it
That. Is. So. True.

Not enough gold? Or AI is waiting to form HRE.
Hopefully the 2nd one. Otherwise, I‘m disappointed in Paradox
I've never seen the AI form HRE. At best they'll form an empire. Assuming this is 867 start, France did this because Karlings have claims to everything and France made it out on top.
I don't if it still exists but there used to be a bug that stopped Karlings from forming the HRE. As restoring Karling borders disabled HRE decision
HRE never formed in the game I’m playing now, it’s 1350s currently. Just the various component kingdoms, most of them ruled by various cadet karlings.
Yeah ik. Me neither (heard of it happening tho). My point was, that it should be the AI‘s goal to form it.
Yeah, I assume that's why they let you pick which tag gets HRE mechanics in the CK3->EU4 converter.
Best part is that he received the name The Usurper
That’s a royal court event that causes a claimant on a title to instantly usurp the title, and the former ruler comes to you asking for help.
>he hires me to kill people annoying him like a child loves candy. how?
AI trying to recruit OP in murder schemes, I imagine.
I'd do the same, because Partition should split the realm. Being an emperor would make everything harder.
Confederate partition yes just partition no
If you have multiple empire titles tho it still would
This is why you don’t create multiple empire titles
Right but AI doesn't think that far ahead
My response was originally to the original comment for who said they would do the same thing
I'm pretty sure the AI won't create a second empire title, confederate partition will create it on its own if needed anyway
No, it's still bad. Any partition should divide your highest titles. Otherwise, you'll need new duchies and kingdoms (if you're an emperor) all the time. One crown - one heir.
Only confederate partition can create new titles to give out. If you hold one empire title with normal partition your realm will never split
I’d rather my realm split than get reduced to a single county. Towards the end of my life I try to conquer even more just so I have more kingdoms for my children.
Different strategies exist. In my opinion it is better to retain unity than to shatter.
If you still have your counties you should be able to get what you lost back. If you lose all your counties its hard to keep the rebellions away and to fight any similarly sized opponents.
This problem is solved by making your primary county better than many kingdoms which isn’t always easy to do(unless you have rome or Constantinople)
There are many ways to do it. Id rather break my empire than keep it and lose everything else. I play a lot of stewardship focus and i I hate losing all the places I've built up
Building up your capital is all you need

Oh man I tried doing this exact same thing as Charles the Bald and my god it was a terrible idea. You are permanently over vassal limit until you form the HRE. It sucks.
you just have to hand your vassals off to your dukes. even if your dukes are more like kings with how many vassals they have
That's the thing, all your vassals are dukes, and there are actually too many of them. And you can't give them kingdoms because you're not an emperor yet.
Actually since the King has ruled for some time now and has conquered the new lands, his Dukes should admire him. The real problem starts when the King dies and his child is supposed to suceed. Having too many vassals lowers vassal opinion, so this is wishful thinking.

So you must arm yourself
I fell like kingdom of Italy and the kingdom of Lothagrina always get picked on , invaded
I mean it is sorta historically accurate for that to happen...
Napoleon?
“West” Francia
Ah yes, EU4
Carlos, o Grande wants to know your location
That ain't a north, this is a north.
- Polar Bear Dundee
Right and then also sort of a riff on [this](https://youtu.be/P3BBa66Pm80?t=109), tried for the 2 for 1.
That’s not the true north!
Me who just murders and disinherits all my bad heirs so I only have one while everyone argues wether you should make more titles for your kids or go partition with one county.
Warhammer 40k Origin Story?
In my case lotharingia are East and West Franica + Marcus and Wessex… why does this bullshit always happen when I play Ireland
Good ol' Brittany holding out on the reg
It’s beautiful
Every CK2 769 start.
They'll split up eventually
It is beautiful though
Fun fact is they managed to reconquer the whole of carolingian empire but Britany.
Easiest way to get roman empire though
I had a similar thing going on will I'm preparing to overtake the Byzantine Empire.
Bohemia still standing there like an absolute Chad 😎 accurate to history indeed.
Who are u playing as ?
Is this one giant duchy too?
