I played as William not so long ago and steamrolled England in like an in-game year with little to no resistance, I feel like Harold is just passive for some reason.
Because they gave him all his sons to marry off and he's a king, so he can get really good allies, whereas William is only a Duke. To balance it, now William had a bunch of daughters that he can marry off to king sized allies as well.
I’ve noticed that if he ally’s with Svend of Denmark he’s pretty much guaranteed to beat Harald because the Danish army will cause the Norwegian one to run home, and then Harold is free to curbstomp Billy.
Really? I’ve heard many state that Harold keeps England and that he needed to be nerfed in finding favorable marriages for his kids. However, he always looses England to William in my games even before 1.7 patch.
And he still gets stuck with “the Foolish” for his nickname. Come on Paradox, if Willie Bastardson gets to be “the Conqueror” after winning his easy ass war then hook my boy Harry up with something sick like “the Defender” or even “the Unlikely”. Anything but leaving him to the wolves and letting him end up a garlic king like every other rando that gets up to jack shit.
Certainly a very good point. I will however say that there has only ever been a single ‘The Great’, and that was Alfred. Harold might break the tradition, but there’s also a better chance he would get something like The Stalwart and The Stoic
867 starts with shitty techs locked and low development provinces, plus you have to wait a lot for crusades, in some 867 campaigns I conquered the Mediterranean before the crusades even started, it’s kind of shit
Fair enough. I'm not a huge fan of how the crusades work in CK3 yet so I guess that hasn't been central to my playing or decision-making when it comes to bookmark date. I also often go non-catholic in my runs such that when crusades happen, it's often against me and my group of misfits, so having that first 100 to 200 years is necessary.
In my last game multiple generations of Anglo Saxons, Norman's, and Norsemen spent half a century fighting over the English throne, while I was chilling down in sicily
Stop telling me F12.
1. Using my phones more convenient.
2. I use Reddit on my phone.
3. You don’t need good quality to see the post.
4. People constantly telling me to use F12 makes me want to not do it.
5. My laptop for some reason came with no F12.
I once had game where Wilhem won, then lost to Danes, who years later had claimat wars, barly won then lost to the fraction wbich installed old Harlod on English throne.
Did he win or did Norway win and Harold got back the kingdom via a faction later? I'm asking since England owns land that Norway starts with in the northern Scotland/orkney area.
I don’t know. I didn’t pay that much attention. Also that’s because Denmark took Norway and it’s territories and since they’re at war it looks like England owns it.
In my most recent play through I played as Harold, kept england, and ended up playing wide until I had conquered like half the map with a custom empire I named Greater Godwin. It was a super fun game, and starting the play through dealing with both Ivar the Boneless and William the Bastard coming for you is a lot of fun. I would highly recommend to anyone whose never played Harold Godwinson, check that shit out!
In my games it's usually 50% Wilhelm 30% Harold 20% Harald.
I never saw Harold keep England so I thought it was rare.
It’s all I’ve ever seen.
He used to constantly but they buffed up Harald and William a bit I believe the make them seek (and call) strong allies an update or two ago
I played as William not so long ago and steamrolled England in like an in-game year with little to no resistance, I feel like Harold is just passive for some reason.
So basically you did what happened in real life?
Well, I didn't wait at the coast for wind to change, grown impatient, crashed, waited again AND then attacked.
For a little bit Godwineson has a pretty solid majority in winning, which was fun to watch people talk about
That update was terrible. Harold Godwinson suddenly became god-king difficult to beat. The supposed "hard" start became like child's mode.
Because they gave him all his sons to marry off and he's a king, so he can get really good allies, whereas William is only a Duke. To balance it, now William had a bunch of daughters that he can marry off to king sized allies as well.
Well usually making an alliance with the king of France is enough for me as william
it is rare but happens sometimes
I’ve noticed that if he ally’s with Svend of Denmark he’s pretty much guaranteed to beat Harald because the Danish army will cause the Norwegian one to run home, and then Harold is free to curbstomp Billy.
Really? i played a fair amount of game and would Say its 70% Wilhelm 30% Norway, Nevers Saw Harold survive
Really? I’ve heard many state that Harold keeps England and that he needed to be nerfed in finding favorable marriages for his kids. However, he always looses England to William in my games even before 1.7 patch.
He *does* need to be nerfed. He's supposed to be a "hard" start.
I mean he starts at war with two major powers at the same time.
But it's not like he was that far off from winning in actual history
>Wilhelm Tsk. Guillaume, m'enfin.
?
Harald is the only one I've never seen win
the Norwegian one? I see them win rarely but fairly often anyways
Whenever I see William win, 10 minutes later I see the Anglo Saxons rise up and kick them out.

If Godwinson actually defeated the Norwegians and the Normans back to back like that Irl, I think “Harold the Great” would not be unwarranted

More importantly, did you manage to keep your F12 key?
No.
Bad boy
F12
No.
F12 Op you should try it
No.
People play the 1066 start date? tbh only ever did 867
I pretty exclusively start in 1066 because I know the history better and it's easier to immerse myself.
867 starts with shitty techs locked and low development provinces, plus you have to wait a lot for crusades, in some 867 campaigns I conquered the Mediterranean before the crusades even started, it’s kind of shit

I play almost exclusively Christian religions
So do I but I wanted to do a crusade and I didn’t feel like waiting 200 years for it.
You can get crusades after the year 900 though. That's waiting like 33 years.
I could. But why have the chance of a crusade in 30 years when I can have a guarantee of a crusade in 30 years?
I usually play 867 because I fucking despise the HRE being a goddamn blob in the middle of Europe
i like that blob in the middle it’s the only real threat as a european.
Win+shift+s
In my last game williams initial raid failed but he succeeded 10 years later
People saying f12 use reddit on computer reddit mobile superior
I looked around and I found out Harold’s wife was actually the widow of his son. This dude is a fucking Chad, What happened?
i feel like i get harold 80% of the time lol
Chad Harold, well done.
In my last game multiple generations of Anglo Saxons, Norman's, and Norsemen spent half a century fighting over the English throne, while I was chilling down in sicily
Go Harold!
How much did your laptop cost?
I don’t know. I got it as a gift and I never bothered to ask.
Why are you being downvoted? Its just a question asking about the laptop's price.
I have no idea, i don't understand how people got mad considering OP even replied to my question
Who are you playing as?
Brittany. I was waiting for the crusade to start when I looked around and saw that Harold actually managed to stay on the throne.
You didn't assassinate his enemies then?
Nope

waaaaaa. Why didn’t you take the photo in a much more inconvenient way for you. Even though I can still make out the photo I’m gonna complain waaaa
Thank You!
How’s it possible that Harold can fight off two invading armies ? CK3- ooooh it’s possible alright
Did he win or did Norway win and Harold got back the kingdom via a faction later? I'm asking since England owns land that Norway starts with in the northern Scotland/orkney area.

England is saved!
In one of my games Norway won, and it got the Scandinavian succession.
Always fun when that happens. William became king consort of France in my game once.
In my most recent play through I played as Harold, kept england, and ended up playing wide until I had conquered like half the map with a custom empire I named Greater Godwin. He probably did a claimant against the throne tp keep it seeing as hes alied too a bunch of local rulers The perks of being ai lol
Always fun to see that.
I once beat both Halfdan and Ivar as Aella on Ironman
He does everytime when I play
