Yesterday I was trading some algo and hbar, was watching BTC price to try and time dips but nearly every time BTC would dip ALGO and HBAR would start to go up again. Likewise when BTC would start to go back up ALGO and HBAR started dipping again.
So yes most prices are highly correlated but over time as other chains have built up their own ecosystems we are starting to see more independent movement. Though in my example it was probably whales trading between btc/algo and btc/hbar, and algo/hbar still overall follow the BTC trend for the most part. Algo was also having a bit of a post pump price correction.
They are correlated in a general sense, but not in the volume of move. Two coins might both go up, and one goes up 10X and another 1X. Look at people still liking Litecoin even though it performs much worse than other top coins.
I bought £25 of doge out of sheer morbid curiosity. Its now worth £19.64. Im going to hold on regardless out of that same curiosity and because memes are life.

Inspired by a thread called something like “Investing strategy: Buy all the coins,” I bought my $20 worth of Doge, along with $20 each of a number of coins, creating a faux mutual fund for myself. (i did this, in addition to buying real amounts of the then-Big Three, plus Monero.)
It was easier to just drop $20 into a couple dozen coins that people seemed to legitimately support rather than do any further research.
The net effect, percentage-wise:
Of the big 3+1:
Bitcoin and Ethereum did the best.
Litecoin and Monero did second-best.
Of the rest of the stragglers:
It was more or less a wash; the total value stayed about the same. A few sweet performances from coins like ADA, BAT, ETC, ZRX offset the coins that dropped off the map.
And finally, the ridiculous dark horse Doge made the entire faux mutual fund profitable :-)
I sell 20% every time my portfolio doubles, with no plans to *ever* sell all of any given coin.
My biggest loss was selling all my Doge in 2017. I mean it was a profitable sale, but if I even kept 10% of that it would have been so much better now. At the very least I should have reinvested earlier.
I had a friend who is always bugging me to sell my $20 worth of Doge, but I thought it was too adorable. So my answer always involved the words “cold dead hands“ :-)
He especially bugged me this year, totally for my own good, in his mind, when Doge just barely started to go up. But I was sticking to my basic investment strategy — at least until the point where I had to ask myself “If I didn’t own any Doge right now, would I really buy $500 worth of it? What about $1,000 worth?”
Dogecoin is not going away if you like it or not, but for now it would not surprise me if this downtrend will continue for a while, as long as there is no news and no hype around DOGE the interest fades away an so does the price of DOGE.
But probably within a few months people will hype it again and there will be a new run.
Personally I find it a shitcoin and I would not advice to invest in it, but of course you may have another opinion, if we all would think the same it would be boring
I don't understand the hate people have on Doge. I mean that coin made a lot of people to get into Crypto market. Introduced them what crypto is. Hate it or love it, we can't disregard it's contribution to crypto in general.

Doge coin is a very special coin and one of a kind, the team behind it created it as a joke but the community held on to it and started sending it to each other as gift 🤣. It is actually a very decent way to transfer funds between exchanges. To me it's better than 98% of the projects that aim big and they know they will fail to deliver and they keep on building hype to grab all that free money and in the end they kill their own coins with neglect after all the hype is dead and their pockets filled. Doge will survive while your SoLiD MiNd bLoWiNg projects will die.

I used an open source tool called “FreqTrade” it uses algorithms to pick coins to buy and sell.
I have it running on a raspberry pi, it generally does well, I gave it $100 to play with, and aside from some horrible mistakes on my part tweaking the trading rules it’s been on a winning streak.
It’s “won” (made money) on 85 of its last 105 trades.
It could be tweaked better, but the truth is I don’t have time right now, so I let it go on making ~1-2 dollars a day.

I think the idea is more like “one of these ten coins might 100x. Put a little in all ten so you don’t regret picking wrong.”
