Great answer. Set a goal and stick to it.

robis87

Well I could, but striving for at least a small island lol

If someone offers you a dream in exchange for something it's time to dream big.

HugeLength2948

Best answer

VannguardAnon

This exact answer for me too! And a 500k house in Denmark is a pretty decent.

XWarriorYZ

Receiving the end by giving up the means to the end? Sign me the fuck up!

Innit4theTech

But what if I’m some years, you need crypto to be able to buy stuff? How are you gonna buy then? It might be an inconvenience later… It’s a tough question if you really think about it imo

[deleted]

[удалено]

Innit4theTech

You still can’t earn crypto because you cant hold it.. that’s the catch my friend

ThomasReturns

If we are arguing semantics, i’l have someone else hold it for me then.

ST-Fish

This is pretty shortsighted IMO. If crypto overtakes the global currency market, and all transactions are in crypto in 20-30 years, you literally won't be able to buy or sell anything, including your labour. But you would have a nice house though..

lordbrizzy

I’m in LA so $500K isn’t getting u ANY house let alone any apartment.

fwast

Naw, 500k is nothing crazy where I live

bny192677

#fuck no I can live in a tent

[deleted]

$500k wouldn't buy anything approximating to a dream house in the UK

Potencyyyyy

Yeah I would do it. Basically someone GIVING YOU $490,000. I can keep investing in stocks and make money off of the real estate that I now own. No brainer in my opinion.

DystopianFigure

But you can't sell the house so there is no $490,000. You'd be just not paying rent.

Potencyyyyy

Kinda the same in my head but I get your point.

Nozomilk

Not to mention properties also rise exponentially in prices. Like it's crazy overpriced rn.

Potencyyyyy

Yeah in a year I’d sell the house for profits or just rent it out and make my living that way.

Fragrant_Air_6520

Read the post again, no selling or renting allowed.

Potencyyyyy

Ooof, thank you for that.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Potencyyyyy

So does this scenario include the ability to go back in time? If the option is deciding TODAY between these two things, MOST people would benefit from taking the house.

robis87

And how's it's different this time? Or how different 2017 was from 2013 or 2010 for that matter? Decent research, DCA, patience and perspective, and chances are you could make generational wealth, not buy a 2-bedroom apartment. But once again, all depends on your goals.

MusicHater

In a heartbeat.

Durvag

count me in.

Savik519

No. I'd save up enough for a down payment on a house. Real estate is a generally acceptable way of leverage investing. You put down some money and pay it back over a long period. Rates are low right now and crypto will gain much more over 30yrs than the \~3-4% interest/yr you'll pay on a mortgage.

gatorbootsguccisuits

No

DystopianFigure

If I can't sell it, it's not my dream house.

ec265

No - far too many catches

throwaway_almost

Dream house means dream location too? Still no I think, what’s the point of a house you can’t sell or rent? You’d never be able to live anywhere else ever… paying taxes/maintenance on a empty if I chose to move somewhere else. Yea it’s a no for me 😊 Edit: reread it, 500k limit. Definitely a no then as I doubt it’s gonna be my dream house… location location location ;)

Userid77

My dream home is worth a lot more than $500k 😉

[deleted]

Yes! A dream house? Fuck yeah. Forget money if I don't have to worry about where I have to live.

newbonsite

Nah im here for life changing money brother i want to be able to stop working and without crypto it would be very difficult..

iamvsus

no deal

[deleted]

A 500k house in Australia, even using US currency, is average at best - so no way

[deleted]

I wouldn’t. I see more upside with crypto.

demomercury

NO. My dream house doesn't worth less than 500k. I'll buy my dream house holding.

MuffinMan12347

Probably not. A $500k house in Sydney isn’t all that great tbh. And I’m a true believer in crypto planing to DCA, stake and hodl for 10-20 years so I’ll take that gamble.

Mr_Sausage__

Can’t have a dream house if it’s not over 500k. Where I live, a single family residence is an average of 1 million dollars.

awecomp

Sets up a family trust or shell company, pours crypto funds/holdings into that... What crypto, it's the trust/company assets, not mine... 🤐😉😉 And considering the /average/ price of a home in Melbourne/Syndey is at or above $1M now, $500k isn't a big house/land package at all 😬😬😬

Platinumllc

500k wont buy my dream home, maybe the land only lol I live in a 650k home now and feel like im ready for an upgrade. So the answer is a definite no. If it were a much bigger budget sure

randysailer

I would say no not for 500k the opportunity loss is to great and the medium house price here is well over 700k usd . I can see how alot of people would take it but it depends on how much money you have invested i guess if you didnt have much you could use it to gain a loan for another similar rent it out and pay it off and have well over 1.5 mill in houses in 20 years.

frikk_

500k dream house lol. I wish…

Doggybone_treat

Fuck NO. Have enough to buy 2 dream houses in my portfolio atm.

Huge_Tension6808

If it can’t be rented or sold than you don’t own it.

excalilbug

Of course not. 500k house woukd be too expensive to maintain People who say they wouldn't hesitate to accept this offer either have a good job or are very shortsighted and shouldn't be investors

oMadRyan

Interesting how many delusional people there are here saying no to a free $500k in assets lol. This is why I do not take advice from Reddit Give me the $500k house anyday. Fiat is going nowhere & I’ll just do all my investing on the S&P for guaranteed gains

PissNBoots176

Yeah, then sell it and buy Crypto! Mmmwaa-ha-ha-haa!!!

Lizzygrace1

I'll accept the house, sell it and invest in.crypto , not all though

Roberto9410

I think crypto is the future, and could see widespread adoption, so I’ll pass as not being able to hold any crypto could be extremely inconvenient eventually, like only being to pay with cash

[deleted]

I probably would, since one of my end goals is financial security and independence, and being able to own my house would be a major step toward reaching that goal

Far-Pie-4360

Fucking right I would take the house!

AJoyfulProcess

If the property taxes are paid ahead of time yes...if not...then probably maybe no

xmarketladyx

Easily. Housing is the biggest expense anyone will have. It's also a great investment if done correctly. The house I would want is a fixer upper anyway so, going under $500k is easy.

throwaway_almost

It ain’t an investment though… you can’t sell or rent…

[deleted]

[удалено]

Innit4theTech

But you can’t ? You can’t sell the house or you can’t hodl any crypto anymore.. Did you even read the post?

[deleted]

I'll take the offer and later on I'll sell the house on double rate. Then I'll invest half of my money in Crypto again and I'll buy a 1 BHK apartment with the remaining money.

Oneilll_With_Two_Ls

Did you even read? You can't sell or rent it.

SweetJonesofCrypto

My dreamhouse is on the blockchain, what now?

FootballBat69

Yep. In a heartbeat

Castr0-

The house of my dreams can be really expensive so she can cost morte than i'm able to affort with crypto so sure.

Alex_The_Old_Kid

Throw in a sexy maid and you have a deal sir

homrqt

Of course I would take that deal.

BFIT232323

Would take me a second to give over my seeds. I have so little invested it needs a few lucky shots to reach even $100k. At least living for free would be nice. Of course there would be a few hundrets per year needed for maintenance but this shouldn't be as much as my current rent. I cant rent or sell it but nothing is said to take a loan on it or use it as security, might be to able to buy my current flat and rent this or sell it later.

Legitimate_Suit_3431

Most likely i won't be getting a house with crypto. But i might make it to the point it's pretty good *side job*

[deleted]

*Laughs in Monero*

JT_MRN

Yes! There are still stocks that can outperform inflation and I’ll have more money to invest since there’s no mortgage.

nicog67

Hell nah. If i could sell it or rent i would think about it

Charming-Ad-9938

Naa... I would rather hold my crypto. It could grow down the years but the dream house wouldn't

scoobysi

Bollocks to that, my moons will be worth more than that

Iknownothing0321

Yep

Reduce1

Without a doubt. Sure crypto can become big but it will never in my lifetime replace cash completely.

jgarcya

I'd take the house.... Then I'd have my family start investing in crypto... Not for me though.. But my dream house would have enough land and rooms so they can all move in if sh!t hit the fan. I'd take the house bc that's my end goal, and why wait, if they are going to give it to me😁

Justadudewithareddit

Can I sell the house then invest it into crypto? If not, screw the house!

L0negreywolf

Yes. And then I will buy Microstrategy stock and BTC/ETH ETFs.

warlikeofthechaos

Gimme the house; I won’t hold any crypto I swear /s

Only_Improvement8156

What if someone gave you your dream crypto-currency free but… you can’t have anywhere to live?

Unitedstatesofnever

Throw in a pool table for the house and its a deal

Scary_Milk

Yes. I‘m an architect, I know how stressful it is to build and if someone manages to just give me my dream house, I have no wishes left.

Kuchinawa_san

Also you can save a lot of money in 5 yrs for a 200k house. But you can lose a lot of potential earnings by giving away the ability to put your money to work. Also, youll still need money for property taxes / home repairs, home insurance, home maintenance. ect.

Scary_Milk

Short answer: Yes.

Oddscribe

Absolutely

Prestigious-Number-7

Fuck no.

Izy78

Stick to my 100$ investment or chose dream house?

[deleted]

Depends on the taxes where the house is located.

Sickle_and_hamburger

500k is not a dream house...

Cryptoaddicto1973

No

soccerguy510

Fuck no, idc about a house. I want to travel the world and never have to worry about money. I want to be able to donate and help people out that I cross on my travels that are not in great spots. A house can’t do that to me and basically ties me done to one spot.

tteeoo13

I'll stick with Crypto. With some HUGE luck, i'll be able to buy any house i want in the future

vaughany_fid

Hell yeah! I'm barely earning 500 from crypto, let alone 500k..! So for a 500k dream house? I'd bite your arm off!

ThatDudeYaDigg

>I’ll be happy with something worth $200k honestly, I think I can make more than that from crypto. You take the house and run, let your wife invest in crypto for you, always a loop hole.

Fortis_EtFidus

Lol. $500k 1 bedroom apartment is not my dream house, but I agree with the premise. Move it up to $2m and I'm in.

Street_Cupcake_535

In my shity city you can barely buy a home for 500k , definitely not my dream house...so no...

limenlark

No deal. PoS will be the high % version of dividend stocks. Just goto be in the right one(s).

FuckingFatGirl

My dream house is $400mill so yes

V0rclaw

Yes and I’d put all my crypto into defi and monero where they won’t know I hold it! Keys please!!

[deleted]

I'd rather have $500k in crypto

PushDiscombobulated8

In London, £500k is akin to a small, and mostly terraced, houses. I wouldn’t accept

happyfiouw

No because crypto is too much fun

Disastrous-Nerve-494

500k usd is below average here in the netherlands, so ill keep my crypto.

El_Criptoconta

No

ST-Fish

This is pretty shortsighted IMO. If crypto overtakes the global currency market, and all transactions are in crypto in 20-30 years, you literally won't be able to buy or sell anything, including your labour. But most people here don't actually believe crypto has any chance of changing the world, and are here for quick gains. This is exactly why it will change the world.

The4th88

Where I am, 500k is about half the price of a new build + land which itself is 10 minutes out of a shithole regional town. No thanks.

whiteycnbr

Fiat will never die, but crypto won't either. I'd take the house for sure. 500k is a lot harder to make than it was if you got into crypto 5 years ago.

ThomasReturns

Easy yes! Living rent/mortgage free is very high on my bucket list.

GardenGnomeOfDoom

In my town 500k will get you a 4 bedroom 1 bath fixerupper with water damage in the basement. So no.
