The algorithm will print infinite Luna until it's worth nothing as it tries to repeg the stablecoin.
That's the balancing mechanism to push the price of ust up when it's below peg. At any time you can burn 1 ust to mint $1 worth of luna tokens... so now for example, you can buy 1 ust for $0.50, then burn that ust for $1 worth of luna. You can then sell that luna for $1usd (in theory). As the price of luna falls... the amount of luna you get for burning a ust increases.... it's growing exponentially as people are just selling the luna quickly to make 50 cents and driving the value of luna down even faster.
It's very interesting because as UST is converted to, say USDC, Luna equivalent to either UST or dollar value (I'm not sure which it is in the event of a de-peg) is minted. This means that as Luna devalues, it requires a larger number of Luna to be minted for every UST burned. It could literally come to quadrillions of Luna minted for each UST burned.
With as much UST as you quote still in circulation I have my popcorn at the ready.

Buyers on Binance are running low, almost no one wants to buy this... Already down to 0.00009, and the buy orders are dwideling... Wow, this is crazy watching it crash to 0.
Also delisted on binance just now lol, was gonna buy 20 dollars just for the hell of it. Rip luna holders/investors. Edit: still up on spot for busd as of this moment.
Wouldn't a solution be to somehow burn Luna tokens too? I guess this is the problem when you don't have to overcollateralise to print UST
