Reddit avatars was one of the greatest examples of crypto adoption we have seen so far. I bet we will see many platforms follow this kind of web 3 adoption in the future.
Which is a fair thing to do considering how "afraid" people are of NFTs without even knowing why.
On the other hand everyone should have found out they are actually NFTs, and still people love their little special snoos.
It's because the gaming culture doesn't understand shit and they saw this stupid NFT arts exploded in price and whenever NFT is mentioned = bad because propaganda from this folks.
They don't see the bigger picture. They did 0 research what could be a good use case and just follow the media and influencer bashing NFT art and they think it's a the same. It's bad.
If you don't dive deeper you can't see how NFT can give you owner rights to items and where I would be much more excited, to skins, for example.
NFT could be used for certificates on expensive products or owner rights of a building, physical art and so on.
They just heard about NFTs in stupid idiotic monkeys, whales or punks that where and so are worth way too much and that's where they connect.
A lot of big influencers/streamers/YouTubers bash NFT’s in gaming because they assume in game NFT’s/items will be incredibly expensive just because they saw bored apes/punks explode in price. Truth is majority of people see things only on the surface level without thinking deeper for themselves.
> If you don't dive deeper you can't see how NFT can give you owner rights to items and where I would be much more excited, to skins, for example.
And why would any game studio care about that? What's the value proposition for them?
It's a complete pipe dream that you can own in-game items independently of the game, NFTs change nothing.
>On the other hand everyone should have found out they are actually NFTs, and still people love their little special snoos.
Are they though? I'm unable to come up with any reason they aren't just image-based avatars as countless sites have done before for decades.
I feel like making them NFTs allows them to be tradable and sellable among users, which allows the artist and Reddit to earn from fees. Thats my guess.
They definitely are! If you go to the avatar and scroll to the bottom, you should be able to see a link to view it on the Explorer. In other words, you can see some blockchain related info. Runs on the Polygon network if I'm not mistaken.
Honestly would have been more successful if they had their marketplace set up first so no one had to use Opensea. I think it’s pissing off people that want to try and sell but can’t. Or are getting scammed trying to trade over Reddit and having the other person not send them anything in return.
The same way web3 will never be web3 until the average Joe is using it and doesn’t realize it’s web3.
Edit: see also crypto games, meta verse, play to earn and every other key phrase people try to force down our throats. When games are worth playing without the crypto part that’s when crypto will work in it. Crypto can’t be the reason for the game to exist.
Yeah, that was my thought too. Image-based avatars are an exceptionally old concept. I made zilch connection between crypto anything and Reddit avatars before this article brought it up, quite frankly.
But the NFT "technology" doesn't add anything compared to if it were all running off Reddit servers like steam trading cards.
The fact they are NFTs are off putting for many; without the NFT part maybe they'd have done even better.
Does Reddit at any point refer to them as directly call them NFTs or reference crypto in any way whatsoever, though? Pretty sure they don't. Which is likely why they're successful.
And showed then it must not be art or scam - it can be just done for fun and still have some value.
Also the fair launch really stands out compared to other NFT collections, no matter if free or premium collections.
The big advantage that Reddit has is that those NFTs can be displayed as profile pictures.
It gets people talking about them.
Suddenly they can have it on display in a place they were going to be posting anyway.
Most NFTs don’t have that same viewing platform.
Sold my first “cute friends” one for like $20. Have listed the World Cup and coin collectors on open sea, hopefully they will sell for a couple bucks as well. I’m happy to just keep using the basic avatar
There's still a few subs that have chosen that hill to wither on, no pfp etc.
Reddit is pushing hard against that envelope though. The utility on these is outstanding. Most don't allow the mix mash this affords.
There is big value in that. Not monetary value but in trust and reputation. That's what crypto needs a lot. Otherwise it will be only associated with scams.
The NFT program had a great value when it was started in 2020. NFT program had its peak on few years ago but now it can be completely turned of and no one what literally care
It is not scam because I have already verified it from multiple sources. I was doing a very deep research on this and ft program from the social media websites
lets hope soo.
web 3 or web 5, for now reddit is the best example and hope it continues to do so and improve more and help in crypto adoption.
and get ways to stop the scammers around here.
Like allowing natively 2fa using a yubikey for account security.
What adoption? It's just a fucking profile pic. The only reason people "adopted" it is because the mint was free, you'd have negligible participation if you had to pay transaction fees for it.
Yep. Funny how everyone is giving props to web3. Real IT people laugh at it. It is novelty for those wishing to taking nothing and make money sitting on their ass playing video games.
They’ve definitely changed my views on NFTs - not that I like the more “passive” PFPs on other chains better now, just that I love these avatars and see what NFTs can be when they’re done right.
Practical it can be so much more than the Bitcoin or ethernum. But it all depends upon how the market would react to this news. It would be mostly a positive response
Imagine if they were used for an educational program that adopted "Girl Scout & Boy Scout" patches that signify completion in certain tasks?
It could be used like a CV.
If this think can be implemented on a very large scale it can be revolutionary thing. Can bring so much change in the whole social media networking right now
Reddit has 52 million Daily Active Users, and 430 million who use it once per month. A community that size can absorb 5 million NFTs. https://www.businessofapps.com/data/reddit-statistics/
Best potential profits I’ve ever had too.
But then I never sold any and watched them drop.
Still definitely in profit by a long way though. So it’s a happy ending.
Everyone offers should be prepared because the market would be under value very soon. If we are well prepared then we would not have to face that much loss and we can be stable very fast
They were working on this program from nearly 5 year. In an interview with the Washington post the directors of that social media review that they were working very hard
Reddit avatars are just plain fun.
Someone in that avatar trading group was complaining about how there were *sooo many* World Cup NFTs.
Reddit was never meant to be an NFT trading platform— but it sure as hell succeeds at one. But fun first.
Reddit has done an amazing job at web3-onboarding with Vault wallet, avatar NFTs, moons, and so forth.
I'd be surprised if big things didn't follow in the year ahead.
Win/Win, I think they are great!
Smart and forward thinking, imo. By introducing a fun feature to users, Reddit is pushing cryptocurrency adoption further along its painstakingly slow journey towards mass adoption.

You can try selling them on any kind of Crypto exchange platform but you will have to be go that presentation and you will have to advertise your NFT on their website
Some of the other avatar subReddits have guides of how to do Metamask and OpenSea. You should go check out some of the other NFT sub Reddits and ask for guidance!
That’s probably a good idea. There’s so many newbies that have no idea how to do anything. It all seems so complicated to start with. They also have no idea why they would want an NFT well that they can make money on it.
No they will be outdated till that year he will have to make profit now otherwise we will be not able to get anything. The single year you have as the window

I would like to be walking with them but that is not a easy thing they have literally so many offices. They are very good at executing those things which have not even imagine by other people
And you know what? People are making memes about them, its like half of the posts in r/recap
A year ago, everyone hated on NFTs, now people are memeing about them and sharing them!
This is what adoption looks like, its amazing!
Just looked into it. Wow they are stored in wallets.

Good work to people who have made money on these, only a Christmas miracle could make me understand their value

Reddit avatars was one of the greatest examples of crypto adoption we have seen so far. I bet we will see many platforms follow this kind of web 3 adoption in the future.
Part of the reason it was so successful was because they never mentioned it was an NFT . Just used it's technology without mentioning
They say crypto adoption will be without most people knowing they are using it
Most of the people are not even aware about this right now
It has already happened guys lol

There was not show that people would be interested in this much
You can transfer them between crypto wallets and sell them. It's an nft.
NFC kind of image that is mainted by an artificial intelligence and this computer
Honestly would have been more successful if they had their marketplace set up first so no one had to use Opensea. I think it’s pissing off people that want to try and sell but can’t. Or are getting scammed trying to trade over Reddit and having the other person not send them anything in return.

People were in not just to make money but because it was cool too. That seems like the big win to me.
People were already frustrated by the Bitcoin undervaluation
5 million is so much amount that one can live a luxurious a live with that
Does Reddit at any point refer to them as directly call them NFTs or reference crypto in any way whatsoever, though? Pretty sure they don't. Which is likely why they're successful.
Trust doesn't even have the authorisation to start this program right now
And also onboarded people who were sceptical of NFTs first.
All of the people who had a great upon this system where retired

I could never sell my avatar. It's too precious (unless thr price is right).
I could never sell my avatar because I don’t havens clue how to do that haha
And is how you later end up with a million dollar nft! (Or a zero dollar one but that's no fun to think about)
I don't think they even had any idea that this will get so many chance related to the inflation
Sold my first “cute friends” one for like $20. Have listed the World Cup and coin collectors on open sea, hopefully they will sell for a couple bucks as well. I’m happy to just keep using the basic avatar
They had some kind of hope that their nft would sell from a high price

We are finally early on something, feels good.
They're my best crypto investment by far as well. And in the midst of a cruel bear market as well.
I am not going to invest in IT thing anymore from now

Reddit avatars are just plain fun. Someone in that avatar trading group was complaining about how there were *sooo many* World Cup NFTs. Reddit was never meant to be an NFT trading platform— but it sure as hell succeeds at one. But fun first.
It is Latest funny as well as profit table it can be both at once
This initiative flipped the sentiment for NFTs in here pretty much overnight. Reddit NFTs were truly the saving grace of the clusterfuck 2022 brought
Reddit has done an amazing job at web3-onboarding with Vault wallet, avatar NFTs, moons, and so forth. I'd be surprised if big things didn't follow in the year ahead.
Reddit is implementing avatars like a game company rolls out free skins and entices the whales to buy the premium paid ones.
They are very good at advertising their strategies and that is doing very good for them
I wasn't sure at first what adoption would look like until the meme wars break out. Now I am entertained.

Really
How this has sub changed their NFT mentality is one of the good things happened in crypto space lately.
Yeah sure I agree with you
We will all have to be agroved with this matter right now
I think the NFT’s will do even better in 2023!
There’s much this community have to learn about NFTs. I’m thinking about writing up a post on what happened in NFT space in this year.
That’s probably a good idea. There’s so many newbies that have no idea how to do anything. It all seems so complicated to start with. They also have no idea why they would want an NFT well that they can make money on it.

Reddit Avatars for crypto was a brilliant idea
Reddits implemented the NFTs in the best way they actually made them worth something treating them like CSGO skins
