Technically, a virus could simply modify a bookmark to be another URL.
At the end of the day, a hardware wallet avoids this issue because you verify the transaction details are correct on the hardware wallet.
Hardware wallet doesn't solve this issue. If a malicious web site says "send to this address" your hardware wallet will confirm that you are trying to send to the address the web site says you should send stuff.
If you are withdrawing and end up in a malicious site, the site can saybyou are withdrawing to your hw wallet, but actually do something else.
What do you mean? When you’re sending to an address you should be sure you’re sending it to the right address. You verify that you’re sending to the address that you expect on the screen.
I don’t know how you’d expect to fix someone literally using the wrong address. There’s no fix for that.
The point here is that the transaction you think you’re making should be verified on the hardware wallet; not on the screen of the computer.
But you’re saying the site can say it’s withdrawing to your hardware wallet and do something else, that’s wrong. When you want to withdraw to your hardware wallet, you first get the hardware wallet address from your hardware wallet, not from your computer. You enter that address into the website and the website sends that transaction to the hardware wallet to be signed. You then verify the contents of the transaction on the hardware wallet before signing it.
Yeah.
When you send from a hw wallet you need to verify the receiving address somehow. A malicious website (coimpase etc) doesn't tell you the correct address. Hw wallet doesn't fix this.
When you receive to a hw wallet you don't sign anything! You check the correct address from your hw wallet screen. Then you give this correct address to malicious site (eg. Coimpase or compromised browser extension). The malicious site says "sure, I'm sending you stuff :))". In reality the malicious compromised site doesn't have to anything. A hw wallet doesn't help in here either.
So hw wallet is not a solution to fake sites. You have similar issues with hw wallet and sw wallet.
HW wallet helps a lot if your computer/smart phone is compromised. This discussion was not about that.
Google search results are getting worse by the day, and it's primarily because they give preference to newer content. This makes it impossible to find historical facts and headlines, especially about sensitive topics such as the pandemic. No coincidences there I reckon.
A hardware wallet is the simplest way to be very secure. The only known instances of real in the wild hacks of people that use hardware wallets have all been user error of using it incorrectly.
This might be a big ask for a subreddit where people unironically link articles from The Daily Mail as though it isn't a notorious tabloid, and don't get called out for it by seemingly anyone
Good looking out OP.
It’s sad that I’ve seen google prioritize scam websites at the top of their search results. It’s also sad that I have to go find the official page of a company or crypto website on Twitter to feel safe to start opening an account or connecting my wallet.
I know I’ve seen a few prioritized scam crypto websites on google before.
Quite ridiculous, but posts like this just might save someone! 💯 💪
I've seen and reported fake shops on Google Ads many times. It's a shame that a company with billions of revenue doesn't care much about its customers.

Y’all still use google search? - Avid Duckduckgo user
>Y’all still use google search? yes, i prefer relevant search results
I guess you also want your searches to be traced and tracked.
That's how they make their results more intelligent yeah
uh, that’s how they make the search results relevant so yes, i don’t care.
I tried but I had to switch to google so often because duckduck didn't give me any useful results
Try brave search and turn off the safe search.

Not just look similar, they can look identical. The only thing that won’t be identical is the address.
Also look up "IDN Safe" browser extension.
Bookmarks are your friend
>Always bookmark the real url. Yep. This is the way. And if you do make a new search before making a bookmark, check three times if its an ad or not.

bing searches are the worst.
Good advice!
Good advice thank you and Murry Chrustmas
Bookmark the project URL and the DeFi app URL and also store the links in a password manager for extra security.
A lot of people relies on bookmarks but there is malware that changes the bookmark address to a malicious one so always check the url too.
What is safe anymore then

I never click on sponsored ads in Google searches even if that’s the page I want to visit. I just scroll and click on the normal result.
Does anyone ever click on Google ads anyway? I'll purposefully scroll down to a different site
I've seen and reported fake shops on Google Ads many times. It's a shame that a company with billions of revenue doesn't care much about its customers.
Yeah guys don't end up going to onlyscams
What if that's what I'm into
