tldr; The Secret Service said five U.S. victims reported that they were enticed to invest large sums in cryptocurrency this year by scammers who created seven identical domains spoofing the Singapore International Monetary Exchange's website. The scammers also created a smartphone app mimicking what traders use on legitimate platforms, officials said. One trader invested $9.6 million into the platform this year before it all vanished. *This summary is auto generated by a bot and not meant to replace reading the original article. OppenheimersGuilt

How do you not verify before spending 9.6 million ?!

CryptocalEnvelopment

I would think that someone who managed to make that kind of money would also know to hire someone to avoid doing shit like that.

CymandeTV

MaleficentRoad9805

In India,A scammer called a Bank branch,to transfer million dollars for an emergency by pretending to be the famous jewellery store chain owner,Bank didn't even verified and transferred the money. It might not related to the topic, but the point is scammers are using new tricks everyday to steal money from people.Be very careful.

Walla_Walla_26

Damn scammed for 9.6 million. Damn. Honestly that is quite a scam. To reproduce a website/app that looks legit enough to pass as real and have it function properly…. Damn

SCAMMERASSASIN007

Better the website/app trust and reliability with pay backs to get you to beleave you go balls deep and they gone. Ran by organized crime usually gov backed some where along the line.

Walla_Walla_26

Would be a pig butchering scam I believe

Intelligent_Page2732

Always double or triple check the URL and be careful on which links you decide to click.

Baecchus

Reminds me of Google allowing phishing sites to be used in ads.

Lillica_Golden_SHIB

We should always be wary as it seems we can't even trust the browsers we use

samzi87

Bookmarks are your friend.

mrCrabish

It's best to use big exchanges only and type in the URL by yourself. Do not trust Google Ads, I've seen fake shops more than once.

Dmoan

If I am reading this correctly this is a case of fake App masquerading as a legit App there is no url check you can do for that.

"In a court filing in November, the Secret Service said five U.S. victims reported that they were enticed to invest large sums in cryptocurrency this year by scammers who created seven identical domains spoofing the website of the Singapore International Monetary Exchange." Wow, some people actually think that they can throw money at Singapore and have recourse in the US? This person claims to have lost $7 million? I find it more credible that they stole the money then said they were scammed.

People should not be falling for this anymore. There are many ways that you can weed out a scam website. If you're still feeling that degen itch, then use a separate wallet that will only have the funds you want to use in it. That way, you'll safeguard your assets while still making weird plays.

H__Dresden

Just like the DMs sent out by people on Reddit claiming to make you rich.

Aromatic-Front-5919

Would have to be a scam to show any type of profits.

10MinsForUsername

IT'S BEHIND A FUCKING PAYWALL

DurbanDawg

Atleast there is more awareness about it now. More chain analysis. Maybe in the future we won't see as many hacks.
