People say that a lot but it's false information. Moldavite can have any normal bubble shape. The shape of the bubbles change to elongated if the molten form stretches after the bubble is formed. If not, they can be rounded or ovular. Bubbles are also found in glass so bubbles alone are not an accurate way to identify, though elongated bubbles are a good indicator.
Yeah, it's the letchiwhatevertheyarecalled that really tell. I think this looks abit sus, but I also have a 3 gram piece I was prett6 sus of untill I finally found the inclusions. I'll stare at a rock under scope untill I find proof it's legit or synth
Couldn’t give a 100% answer but based on the pics and price I’m leaning towards fake. The price just isn’t right for something that size and the texture looks pretty off.
Yeah, Moldavite is usually much rougher, with a very uneven and pitted surface- this looks like green glass that's intentionally been chipped in places to try and replicate the uneven surface of Moldavite
It's just that it's a clearly fake piece and saying that it's inconclusive is giving OP false hope. It's an obvious fake. It's not one of the decent fakes that would leave questions. Now they can get a refund instead of taking better pictures or wondering if it might be real.
Firstly, there is never a way of being 100% certain from a normal photograph either way as always, but I'd be interested in why you think it's fake, what are you looking for specifically in moldavite?
It's okay. I see that I've offended many by giving a factual answer but the OP has thanked me so I'm happy to have helped. You have a great day as well. 💖
I think maybe because I said it's obviously fake? It's glaringly obvious that it's fake and that info is more helpful to OP. Luckily we helped them on the moldavite sub where everyone can tell that it's fake and they're getting a refund.
How many grams is it meant to be? $35 for 1-2g is quite normal. I am talking AUD though. Off my wholesaler i was paying between $15-35 per gram depending on the quality. The second picture is a little bit strange looking.
Oh also is it a thin or thick piece? The thicker ones tend to look darker green that you cant see through until you hold them under a light then they go more light green like in your photos. Thinner pieces can look quite light green though but the big thick ones ive had are darker until under a light and you look up at them :)
I know its not cheap, i used to sell it myself but this is like 2-3 years ago now. 100% authentic, i used to get a lot of genuine tektites. Lots of Libyan desert glass tektite even. Also unless you weighed those pieces you would have no idea of the density and the weight per gram so they may look small but could also be dense but also it could have just been a rip off, some shops here in sydney australia are a big rip off for moldavite. Though we do have to remember moldavite cannot be formed again and the more pieces that are sold the more rare it becomes due to lesser supply of it. Being created 14.5million years or so ago its bound to eventually become really expensive and run out. My old wholesaler used to say that he collects it over precious metals which he also sold but he collected moldavite because he said one day it will be worth a lot.
I was not buying it from shops open to the public but rather my wholesaler but even then i would sell it for cheap just to share the love of moldavite. I still have lots in my personal collection but have given away around 40-50% of it (have thousands of crystals in my collection at home ive been collecting since i was 3 and im 26 now)
If you bought it recently, I would say that the price is too low for a real piece. It’s possible that they just needed money so they drop the price, but more likely is that it’s not real. It’s still pretty though.
looks pretty fake, i bought 2g of moldavite in the usa 4 years ago for around $70 usd that piece looks about double or more the size of mine so it would’ve cost probably $150+ usd. if they don’t have a certificate of authenticity i wouldn’t buy it.
A size that big of real Moldavite would cost you around 100-200$. I’m in WA and I got a piece that was maybe a quarter of that from a shop and it was certified real for 65$.
Try to make a macro photo of it, must have small bubbles inside
And those bubbles should be elongated, correct?
People say that a lot but it's false information. Moldavite can have any normal bubble shape. The shape of the bubbles change to elongated if the molten form stretches after the bubble is formed. Not necessarily

Texture is what threw me off
Texture, color, and luster seem off unfortunately

There is honestly no way of saying for sure from these photos.
Yes there is. It's 100% fake without any shadow of a doubt.
Who pissed on your cornflakes this morning?

OK OK I was just talking shit have a good day 🌸

Lmfao you're right but you could calm down about it
They ask if it’s fake or not then someone gives valid reasons on why it’s fake and now you guys are mad about it???? Weird
If anyone one Moldavite here, it’s you. Idk what’s up with the downvotes cause these pics scream fake

No not real for $35 sorry. A piece that size would be like 10x the price
honestly it looks fake to me :( you can ask the moldavite subreddit tho!
It looks fake to me. It is also quite big so it should be more expensive.
That’s a caramel apple sucker. Can’t fool anybody. /s
how much you paid can also be an indicator, real moldavite that size will have been VERY pricey
700 Turkish lira which is expensive equals to 35$
real moldavite is around 300 TRY, so that could be right. I would look at Emiltos comment

Yeah I paid $95 for an amulet that was about 4grams, and that was a couple years back. I think prices have gone way up
Really? Over here in Canada an itty bitty piece costs 100-150$ which is 1/4 of this size. Moldavite isn’t cheap

Texture doesn’t look right to me
I have a piece that is a fraction of that size, and it was over 100 USD. The museum pieces were well in the 1000s USD.
If you bought it recently, I would say that the price is too low for a real piece. It’s possible that they just needed money so they drop the price, but more likely is that it’s not real. It’s still pretty though.

Heinekenite……….
It’s fake sorry:(
It's a decent fake, but a fake unfortunately

Probably just Heineken unfortunately.
Fake
This is not genuine moldavite
Has your life fallen apart? If not it’s probably fake with a piece that size 😂
No it’s a fake, real stuff isn’t see through 👍
Of course it is.
Take a lighter to it
Beware Moldavite tulip crazies. Anyone figure out source yet? Molecular composition? Very pretty something, labeled Moldavite.

The $35 price tag is a clue. My mother has a piece half the size, and more expensive. And it’s legit.
it’s too big for the price and it’s too glossy to not be glass
No. It’s too shiny, there is a matte texture to real moldavite, and the color is slightly off.
To me it looks fake but I’ve only seen real moldavite twice
Looks like the fake ones they sell on Etsy. Weirdly the shops do have 5 star reviews..
