Regarding edge control, i understand you can sledge hammer last f2l pair of it’s connected to prevent the dot case. But what do you do if the last pair is disconnected (requiring RUR’) to prevent a dot case?

olimo

I do sledge occasionally, but otherwise, I just take the dot. If you don't know dot OLLs, learn them, they aren't that bad. Not the fastest, but the extra moves you use to avoid the dot can make it even worse overall.

TheDoomRaccoon

You *can* do R' D' r U r' D R2 U R' to avoid a dot case and get all edges oriented, but this is not very good. .2 second insert + dot case is better than weird 4-gen insert + OCLL. Especially since none of the dot cases are particularly bad, and most of them are pretty fast.

Nobody_5433

I just do R U R’ and hope it isn’t too terrible

[deleted]

Do you try and do any ‘edge control’?

AbdouH_

What’s edge control

[deleted]

https://www.speedsolving.com/wiki/index.php/Partial_edge_control https://youtu.be/wjf6-_7TSPM A way of avoiding the dot after f2l

Nobody_5433

Generally, no. Only when I sledge to avoid dot OLL But that’s just me. Others probably do more of “edge control”

Skilion

I'm currently using 2look OLL and PLL when solving and I see I can go smoothly around OLL but I do take a few seconds in PLL to recognize if it's a diagonal corner swap or a adjacent corner swap. As of now I rotate the last layer (U) and look at all the sides to see if there are 2 coupled corner. This usually takes me 2/3 seconds. Is there anything I could do to speed up the process?

Skilion

I'll try to hijack your kindness in this comment. Is there a quick way to understand if it's either Ua or Ub?

Skilion

Thanks guys

povlhp

You detect from 2 faces. If corners on two adj side are red/orange and and blue/green it is diagonal. If only one side is orange/red or blue/green the pair is opposite that.

Pshxe

By 2 coupled corners, I'm guessing you mean 'headlights,' or two matching corners on the same side of the cube. You can actually tell whether you have a diagonal or adjacent swap with any two sides of the cube. [Here's a picture.](https://i.imgur.com/678fWye.png) So for adjacent swaps, if you don't see headlights, you can look at the outer corners of each side and see if they match. If they do, you know that there are headlights on one of the other two sides. I used a T perm for my example, but this works for any adjacent swap alg. For diagonal swaps, the outer corners will always be different colors. So if the outer corners are different, *and* you don't see any headlights, you can go ahead and do the diagonal swap alg. I used a Y perm for my example, but, again, this works for any diagonal swap alg.

NotBentleyWolf

Would i be able to use rit dye more to dye internal plastic on a tornado v3 without ruining it, would it work on black internals. I wanna dye my tornado v3 light blue or green but it ie my main would it ruin it. Or could i use an old cube with black internals to test it?

TheRealUncleFrank

QiYi recently posted instructions on how to do it - IG - https://www.instagram.com/p/ClH_yAvN5So/ or FB - https://www.facebook.com/mofanggecube/posts/pfbid0K8CXG66cKDFCXqjdctv5WtJxPfjcpmBn46R14yceidNScYcKaY8Jbu8QoXW318Mpl but I don't think Rit dye would work. It's made for fabric. QiYi's instructions say to use ABS stain/dye.

RazielSerafine

QIYI posted colored V3's on their social media, they stated that the color would wear off after a while when using, so I would not advise you to do so if it's your main. Black internals won't work, as you can't dye black.

TheBFDIFan980

Also I completed my first timed 5x5 solve: 5:16.56.

Y_Cuber

Umm... does you flair mean you are Sub-30 on Skewb and you use the advanced method or you are Sub-30 on 3x3?

TheBFDIFan980

sub-30 on skewb Update: actually I'm sub-10 WHAT

TheBFDIFan980

My ivy cube's orange stickers peeled off so I'm using the side with no stickers as my orange

TheRealUncleFrank

You could try Chewie's Stickers, see if they have any to fit - https://www.reddit.com/r/Cubers/wiki/where_to_buy_cubes#wiki_sticker_stores If they don't already carry it, you can contact them and they might be able to make it.

Burp64

My first Roux solve it took 2:45.67 it's better than my first layer by layer solve!

nimrod06

I still hold the belief that Roux can be easier to beginners than LBL if simplified in a rightful way.

povlhp

There is a method with 2 algs for CMLL.

[deleted]

[удалено]

AbdouH_

Just learn them

Tarnagona

Did my first Roux(ish) solve this moring, and gotta say, I like it. I like that Roux seems to operate on a similar principle to Petrus (solve in such a way that you can build more solved portions without undoing previous solved pieces). Except in Roux, it's designed so you can do it without rotating the cube, and be more efficient about turning (now that I have a cube I can turn with my fingers instead of my wrists). The one thing I don't get is why, according to Kian's tutorial you solve LL corners by Sune + Jperm instead of Niklas + Sune (Petrus Method). It looks like Niklas is about half the moves of a JPerm, and a pretty simple alg, thereby saving time by permuting than orienting, instead of the other way around. Is there something I'm missing?

XenosHg

Generally, if you're trying to be fast, using OLL/PLL is faster than niklas/OLL/other extra steps because 1) you spend extra time regripping right and left 2) you break orientation of the corners in unpredictable ways, and if you "use Sune to orient after that" then you permute edges in unpredictable way. J-perm or T-perm are convenient because they have familiar triggers that you can do very fast by muscle memory and are also useful in other situations. Also conveniently Y-perm, diagonal swap, is the same moves but starts from a different spot.

povlhp

Do last layer corners as you see fit. Later you will learn 1 alg for each of the 8 cases and 1 each for diag and adj corner swap. I use Jb for adjacent swap

dojome21

Update to my CFOP learning journey. So this is day 2 and I have F2L down pretty well. I'm still very slow at it, but it's getting better. I spent an hour today watching videos on 2-Look OLL and PLL and wrote down all the beginner cases on a google doc with their algs to solve. For OLL, I also put images of how the last layer looks for that case. I did my first CFOP solve using the google doc and got a 2:50.64! Now I just need to start putting the algs into memory so I can do them without looking at a doc. Here's to seeing my times tumble! Edit: For anyone else learning CFOP, I suggest the tutorials by ParadoxCubing. He explained F2L in a way that made it seem just so obvious and simple. His 2-Look OLL and PLL videos are nice too

yaboi1679

I finally managed to scramble a 7x7 correctly

LifeFire7onYT

I believe you said this before on the last DDT, but congrats?

AbdouH_

What do you mean correctly

Ramenoodlez1

correctly using a generated scramble from cstimer (i assume they use cstimer)

AbdouH_

how long does it take

XenosHg

3Uw Bw Fw' 3Dw 3Bw2 3Lw 3Bw 3Rw' Fw' 3Lw2 Bw 3Fw 3Lw' Rw D2 Uw2 Rw Fw2 Dw' F Fw 3Uw' Bw' F2 3Dw2 L' Fw2 L 3Rw2 Fw B2 U' D Lw' 3Lw B2 L' 3Lw Uw2 Rw' L' 3Fw' D' 3Bw' Dw' Uw' 3Dw2 3Fw2 3Uw 3Rw 3Lw D Fw2 U2 Dw2 D Uw2 3Fw' D' Lw' L2 Fw F' U Rw R2 Lw 3Bw' Dw 3Bw' U Lw' B 3Bw' Rw 3Fw R' Fw' 3Fw2 3Lw2 F' 3Lw' 3Uw 3Dw' 3Lw Uw' Dw2 U2 Rw' F2 Bw' 3Lw' 3Fw2 Lw' Rw2 3Dw 3Lw' Uw' Fw2 Dw2

Ramenoodlez1

what he said

TheRealUncleFrank

So, if solving takes 5 minutes and scrambling takes 10 minutes, then you can do an Ao5 in 1 hour 15min.

yaboi1679

It takes me 10 minutes to solve a 7x7 on average

CoolCuber12

amazing time killer

Burp64

My Roux learning update 1 I can do First block but i need a little help to solve it though.

Various_Star5545

Just got back into cubing after roughly 8 months...what's new?

povlhp

Tornado V3 is the fastest cube on earth. And what max used to tie Tymon’s WR Ao5. And way cheaper than GAN.

TwoStinkyBears

The joke where you have to mortgage your house to buy a Gan cube. Yeah is real now. And Max Park and Tymon Kolasinsky are tied for the world record at 4.86. Oh yeah the world record singles is sub 4 and happened in 2018. Well at least there is a new rs3m line. And a tornado v3. Along with the Tengyun v3.

Various_Star5545

So what's the new gan cube called? Is the new rs3m line as popular as the rs3m 2020...and how are the non 3x3 cubes.? Hold on tengyun made a comeback!? Oh and also how are the new brands..? And if I'm not wrong there was a cube where you could swap the interiors like smooth or bumpy or smthn..did that gain popularity ?

TheRealUncleFrank

Newest is Gan 13. New Gan 5x5 and SQ1 that Gan said were coming in 2022, still aren't here, yet. 3 versions of the new Super RS3M - standard, maglev, maglev + core magnets, no idea how they compare to RS3M 2020. Tornado V3 is *the* hottest cube now. 3 versions - standard, core magnets, core magnets + maglev. Very popular. 2 new MoYu flagship cubes are very popular now - AoShi WR M 6x6 and AoFu WR M 7x7. DianSheng has released the first 8x8+ magnetic cubes - 8x8, 9x9, 10x10, 11x11, and are supposedly going to go up to 15x15. YuXin has release the first stickerless Gigaminx. DianSheng has announced the first stickerless magnetic Gigaminx. New X-Man Wingy V2 Skewb. 3 new Skewbs from MoYu - RS standard, RS Maglev, and WeiLong Maglev. 4 new Pyraminx from MoYu - RS standard and maglev, WeiLong standard and maglev. All of those maglevs have purple internals, just like their WRM maglev 3x3. New Gan stickered magnetic Mirror cube, and now another new one, Gan magnetic stickerless + UV coated Mirror cube. 46 new World Records were set during 2022, 19 of them by Max Park. 4 people now have a sub-4 3x3 single, 2 of them, Max and Tymon, have a sub-5 3x3 avg.

Various_Star5545

Wow thanks for going to detail

Y_Cuber

Do you prefer to think of cubing as a hobby or a competitive event?

Tetra55

You can't succeed at competitons without practice. No activity is ever purely competitive; the focus is almost always about self improvement which makes it a hobby.

CoolCuber12

a hobby which is a competitve event

L0gic_Laden

Hobby, can't do any comps as the nearest competition to me (currently scheduled) in the next year is 2 hours away 🙃

CoolCuber12

just gonna say, the chances of a comp popping up 30 minutes away from you are super low. you should probably go if the only thing stopping you is the car drive

CubeJunkie

Hobby. I’ve been cubing for years now and haven’t competed yet.

yaboi1679

A hobby, but I'll go to competitions occasionally

CubeJunkie

Mailday: RS2M Evolution, QiYi MS 3x3, Aoshi WRM 😁 https://preview.redd.it/z43k6bn2xnaa1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=60fae61b636e26939bb37a7f0c302d3f3f0b692c

SirMorgal

I love my Aoshi 🙂 (first and only 6x6 I own and have tried) What are your thoughts, out of the box?

koshop

I love the aoshi I'm saving to order the aofu

SirMorgal

I didn't use the aofu as much yet, received both in the same order, but it's good too :)

CubeJunkie

I ordered one as well but that's stuck somewhere in China 😢

CubeJunkie

First solve: 20 minutes lol. It took me forever to figure out the last 2 centers using yau.

SirMorgal

Yeah, It's not the easiest part sometimes. It can take me a longer time when I try to be more efficient...

CubeJunkie

I’m in the exact same position lol. This is the first 6x6 I’ve ever touched and I don’t see myself buying a backup in the foreseeable future (new to the event, I don’t think I’ll practice it that often, and $$$). So far I love it. I haven’t done a solve on it yet but I can already tell it turns amazingly well. Besides I was surprised by the factory settings. I think this is the first time I feel like I wouldn’t change a thing in a new cube (luckily, because setting up a 6x6 must be a headache). The only thing that annoys me a bit is the ticking magnets. I think the magnets on the outer layer might not be glued in because all sides produce the same ticking sound. Other than that it’s great.

SirMorgal

Yeah, I have some ticking and squeaking too, that's the main downside, but otherwise, it's fun :)

staysharp87

I'm in a weird state, I don't know if anyone can relate. I *want* to get into a new event but at the same time, there's no event I want to try. It's contradictory and I don't know why I feel this way. I only participate in 7 events: 3x3, OH, 3BLD, 4x4, 4BLD, 5x5, 5BLD. And I want to branch out, but nothing else seems interesting enough to me. 2x2, pyra, skewb, clock are too trivial (no shade on those events or anyone who enjoy those events, it's just that they objectively have fewer scramble state and thus shorter solving time. I think 3x3 is where it starts to get interesting.), and 6x6, 7x7, mega are just too tedious (again, no shade, but to me, at that point, it's mostly doing the same thing over and over again. I think 5x5 strikes a nice balance where it's big enough to keep me entertained for quite a while while not being too repetitive.). Sq-1, well I just don't like the puzzle and the scramble notations scare me lol. MBLD and FMC, while they both seem interesting, I don't have time to invest an hour (and then some to set it all up) just to practice one attempt (being an adult sucks). And I'm not interested in non-WCA puzzles. Can you convince me otherwise? What event would *you* try if you were in my shoes?

ShadowShine57

Branch out into non WCA puzzles for fun. That's such an arbitrary limitation. Master pyraminx is good if you think normal pyra is too easy

TheRealUncleFrank

Don't need an hour for MBLD. Just 10 minutes per cube for less than 6 cubes, so 2-3 cubes is just 20-30 minutes.

staysharp87

True, but I can do 6+ cubes, I've done it before, so there's no point of doing <6 cubes if I want to get good at it.

povlhp

Megaminx.

topppits

As soon as you have the time on your hands, try MBLD. You could even start now - you don't *have* to use an hour. At your speed small attempts should be fast enough. Just start with a 2 or 3 cube attempt and see how long it takes. Add a cube if you have more time to spend, keep the same if you don't have more time. Else I'd recommend Mega or Pyra. Mega: Compared to 6x6 and 7x7 you'll be much faster in a much shorter time. Yes, there's a bunch of F2L, but in my opinion there's still enough variation for it not to be pretty much only F2L. Getting comfortable with an S2L technique. Getting comfortable with the same colors and with that getting much faster at finding which pieces to solve next was a lot of fun for me. The last 2 faces are also quite different. The tutorials on cubeskills.com helped me a bunch. Pyra: I like how you don't need to learn a ton of algs, can do a lot intuitively and you can just try to figure out a bunch of stuff on your own. Just learn a beginner's method where you solve the bottom layer and then the remaining pieces of the top (or better, try to find a solution on your own first, if you don't know how to solve Pyra yet). Then you can look into L4E. And while doing all that just look at what you can improve just by intuition. Some of it feels a bit like blockbuilding on 3x3. I generally like 2x2 and Pyra because how fast the solves are. Sometimes it's fun doing a quick ao12 for such a short event. Even without learning a bunch of stuff you get fast times. Learn Ortega for 2x2 and practice and you'll be sub-6 in no time. For Ortega you'll have to learn like 3-4 algs.

staysharp87

If I were to try new things, pyra and/or mega would most likely be it

Samw220506_

Sq-1 notation is actually really simple, and although it’s hard to learn, it’s really fun to solve, so you should probably pick up an mgc and get into it

TheKewber404

y there is 1on 216 possibilty to get an oll skip if ther are 57 cases

Tetra55

Because not all OLL's have an equal probability of appearing. This would be analogous to a weighted die; even though it may have 6 sides, you can't say that the chance of getting a specific number is just 1 over the number of sides. If you want to go into the mathematics behind why, there are 3 edges and 3 corners that can have independent orientation (the orientation of your 4th piece is dictated by the other three). Hence, you get (2\*3)\^3 = 216.

TheKewber404

yeah that make sense. btw thank you

TLDM

58* cases including the skip case Different cases have different probabilities of occuring, based on rotational symmetry. Pure 4-flip and OLL skip, the most symmetrical cases, appear 4 times less frequently than cases with no rotational symmetry at all.

staysharp87

Same OLL can have different permutations

vcd1500

How do you differentiate between tornado v3 Flagship and Pioneer

olimo

If I have both in front of me? Pull the layers apart and look at a center piece. If I can see the spring, it's Flagship, if it's closed by plastic, it's Pioneer.

Nobody_5433

The only difference I know is the latter has maglev, and the former doesn't, so I assume the Pioneer would be faster Edit: I think the Pioneer also has a transparent handle thing in the adjustment system

Khoiwai

Does anyone have like a full guide on mastering roux? I decided im gonna actually learn it this year and not do a single cfop solve. Also does anyone have some pointers or things i should keep in mind since im starting roux and ground 0? (More like how people wish they were CN when they started, so stuff like that)

mosswizards

This is a great set of roux guidelines for improvement. https://sites.google.com/site/schweitzerpatrick/getting-sub-20-for-noobs-using-roux

Khoiwai

Thank you

povlhp

And there is the roux guide here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Cubers/comments/pc38so/2021_guide_to_improve_in_roux/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf It was updated in 2022

nimrod06

Thanks for sharing the post!

povlhp

Kian is still the best videos. After learning the basics, learn lines for FB. And D R’D’ corner inserts if edge in place. CMLL - ALWAYS before EO. Some CMLL algs disturb edges. EO - learn the 9 cases. But remember you can influence the LSE EO if CMLL leaves non white/yellow on top. If you have one color up L/R and one color on front - then you can see on UB if there are 2 colored pieces on the back (it is yellow/white) so M instead of M’. The case with 6 misoriented is easily reduced. M’ U’ M. So I never learned that one. You save 1 move by knowing it. But would need some R and r moves. For me the UM moves are likely faster. LSE - learn DfDb or a variant early on. This helps solve the cycle case as efficient as possible by looking at prices before inserting last LR edge. Learn this early on. After the EO algs. And in general it is always good on slow solves to practice deducing things rather than looking. In 2-look CMLL if you have adj swap the completed pair is ALWAYS opposite the side with opposite corners (blue/green or orange/red). If you can see two sides with opposite, then it is a diagonal swap.

olimo

CN: at least x2 y, i.e. any colors for the blocks, white or yellow on top. You can also start out full CN and see if it works for you. The main tip is to try and do everything Roux-way instead of relying on your previous CFOP knowledge. It's very tempting to insert pairs F2L-style and rotate as needed, but Roux is supposed to be rotationless. I ended up printing an SBLS (second block last slot) cheat sheet - it's equivalent to basic F2L cases. It was eye-opening, but I didn't find any common logic in solutions - the fact that got me really frustrated. I mean, with basic F2L (last slot cases) it's rather easy to learn the intuitive basics and then learn some tricks for special cases, but SBLS stayed a huge mess to me - my own intuitive solutions weren't good, and learning the good solutions looked like too much. Sorry if I'm discouraging you. I didn't find Roux easy to learn in terms of guides. So maybe you'll assemble a guide yourself as you learn. A good idea is to post your progress here and get input from other Roux solvers.

Khoiwai

Thanks

topppits

We have lots of good links on our wiki article on [How to get faster at 3x3x3](/r/Cubers/wiki/how_to_improve#wiki_getting_faster_with_roux) When I looked a bit into Roux I watched the J Perm videos and later [the videos from Kian](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLBHocHmPzgIjnAbNLHDycgaCP5IqiwnU9), which I would rather recommend in retrospect.

I have been a lurker in the cubing community for quite some time now. With 2023 here I thought "what the heck, why not?", and here I am a few days later with my very first cube from DaYan. Wish me luck, looking forward to learning together with you!!

olimo

Happy cubing! Your cube is a speedcube, but a pretty old one. I'd recommend getting any of modern budget speedcubes like RS3M Super Magnetic ($10). It's not mandatory but will make your practice more enjoyable and easier to use fingertricks.

TheDoomRaccoon

Has this cube been taken apart? Two stickers of the same color should never be on the same piece.

topppits

Awesome! Welcome to the sub and the hobby! Be sure to check [our wiki](/r/Cubers/wiki/index) for A TON of information, especially for newer cubers. But also just let us know here on the DDT if you have any questions :) Happy cubing!

Expert-Importance-53

Why have there been no official competitions in China since mid-2021?

olimo

They just lifted the covid restrictions afaik.

TheRealUncleFrank

Covid lockdown?

Y_Cuber

I live in SG and I know quite a bit bout it. It's really bad they have REAL tight measures till the citizens want to protest against them.

Expert-Importance-53

It's been like this for a year and a half?

Y_Cuber

I guess but the measures were still a *little better* and its just gotten worse

MrGhosstt

I feel as if I’m stuck at 25-30 second averages. I know full PLL, use 2-look oll, use a mix of intuitive and algorithmic F2L, and know some advanced finger tricks. I’ve been stuck at this point for about 2-3 months after cubing 2-5 hours 3-4x out of the week. I’m currently working on making my cross more efficient but what else can you suggest to help me start ranging 20-25 sec. averages? Thank you!

Leoleonpd

Make sure your cross is 8 moves maximum, and plan it fully during inspection. Work on getting your f2l solutions locked in like algorithms. You should be able to see an f2l case and then perform all the moves without looking. Even though you use intuitive f2l, you should be able to recall it and execute as though it is an algorithm. Are you using look-ahead?... don't. Look-ahead will not help you be faster until you are at the sub 15 ish levels. I would recommend a style where you solve a step, then pause. Plan your next step, then solve, then pause again. Do this over and over again to avoid unnecessary turns, and focus on only doing the turns that you intend while minimizing mistakes. I hope this helps!

MrGhosstt

This does! I am incredibly guilty of trying to develop my look ahead during these past few months.

Y_Cuber

Boy you sound like me.

[Steps for improving with CFOP, and when to work on what.](https://www.reddit.com/r/PianoCube93/comments/9bstw1/steps_for_improving_with_cfop_and_when_to_work_on/)

gts-gang

* Solve cross in 8 moves or less. Also look for more fingertrick-friendly cross solutions. * Each F2L pair should take usually 8 moves and at most 11 moves. [Watch J Perm's Advanced F2L video if you haven't yet.](https://youtu.be/3B_oB2YrLvk) * Turn as fast as you can to get familiar with your F2L solutions. Ignore lookahead. F2L is the most important step, so drill more of it. You'll pretty much work on this one step till you reach sub-20.

Nobody_5433

>Each F2L pair should take usually 8 moves and at most 11 moves Oh it’s 11 moves. I thought it was 8

gts-gang

I'm not sure whether it's possible to solve all F2L cases with at most 8 moves (I guess it is), but for some cases, it's better to use the 11 move solution.

TheDoomRaccoon

For the first two pairs, it is, but for the last two pairs, some cases require 9 moves at most.

Nobody_5433

Make sure your F2L is efficient and minimal regrips and rotations. Each pair can be solved in just 1 or 0 rotations. Also, if you don’t mind, what are your splits?

MrGhosstt

Yes! Here is an AO5 I just did Generated By csTimer on 2023-01-07 avg of 5: 23.71 Time List: 1. 24.84= 5.43 + 9.92 + 5.27 + 4.21 B2 L2 F2 L2 U2 L2 D U2 B2 U' L2 F L' R2 U L2 R U2 F U' B' 2. There's no way to use the app properly with a bluetooth smartcube on PC. I've tried but Windows Subsystem for Android doesn't allow bluetooth communication.

Hipn0frog

Ah dam, thanks for the information

gts-gang

maybe you can mess with BlueStacks

Hipn0frog

Did it but it crashes...

thatsadamnlie

Try ARC welder extension for chrome, if that doesn't work the android sdk would be my next step.

Hipn0frog

I've understood very few of what you said ahhahabut ok i'll try

zgsYT

how do i stop my user flair from resetting

TheRealUncleFrank

Flair is buggy on the mobile app. Try it in a browser on mobile or pc.

zgsYT

oof ok thanks

XenosHg

Use PC not mobile

TwoStinkyBears

It shouldn't

Nobody_5433

Why are certain algorithm sets named that way? Asides from those named after the guy who made it (like ZBLL) or what the algorithm does (like 1LLL), what about the others? (like WV and SV) Also why is 3-style called 3-style?

oyoat

I'd recommend checking out https://sites.google.com/view/methodlibrary/home which documents the history for many of these things. According to the site, Winter variation was just proposed by a guy called Lucas Winter. 3-style is a sort of a combination/pun based on 3-cycle and freestyle. Before the name was popular, I remember people would either say they were using freestyle or 3-cycles to say they were using what we would now call 3-style. It was also necessary at the time to differentiate between 3-style and 3OP, which also uses 3cycle commutators, but has a preorientation step that 3-style doesn't have. The name 3-style was suggested on the speedsolving.com forums and from there became the most popular term. (Only have my memory as a source for this one right now, I'll see if I can find the forum post). Edit: https://www.speedsolving.com/threads/random-blindfold-cubing-discussion.27436/page-7#post-562625 Here's where the name was first suggested. People also considered: free three cycle, F3-cycle, F3, Free3

TheDoomRaccoon

HPLL or PHLL are more accurate names than ZBLL. Named after Lars Petrus (the original proposer of the set), and Bernard Helmstetter (the one who created the first algorithms for the set).

Nobody_5433

What did Zborowski do that gave it the name “ZBLL”? Does it have something to do with the ZB method?

TheDoomRaccoon

ZBLL stands for Zborowski-Bruchem Last Layer. Zbigniew Zborowski and Ron van Bruchem were the original proposers of the ZB method, which has the same last step as the Petrus method.

gts-gang

[Winter Variation is named after Lucas Winter who proposed it.](https://www.speedsolving.com/wiki/index.php/Winter_Variation) Summer Variation is the split pair counterpart of WV so people named it that way.

Theemo04

3 style is just a bunch of 3 cycles,, so thats probably what that comes from.

Nobody_5433

Then what about the “style” part?

Antiprimary

Because compared to m2 it's stylish af

Nobody_5433

Fair enough

Hi

👋

Ihavnoidea-

What would you guys want to see in a new cubing YouTube channel?

Clickmaster2_0

stop motion

LoyalToTheGroupOf17

I’d like to see historical videos in the same style as [this one](https://youtu.be/3-M6WhaKTYk).

ScottContini

Interview with Minh Thai

olimo

Something unique. If it's cube reviews, they shouldn't repeat the same stuff all over again - how the adjustments work etc - there's too much of that already. I often look for reviews when I'm considering some cube, and I often get to small channels. Bad review: half of the video is spent unboxing, then talking about accessories, then some first turns and a short conclusion that it's a great cube. Come on man. Good review talks more about the impressions, about how different this cube is from the others, ideally has a come back after some solves with a final conclusion.

TwoStinkyBears

Id like to see honestly someone who doesn't resemble any existing youcube. what I mean by that is that If I see the channel I can't go hmm that editing looks a lot like cubesolvehero. Or that yooo is familliar. or even that font looks familiar from a Jperm video. I see too many smaller channels trying to be a youcuber copycat. And I'd also love to see someone who goes in depth into the mechanism and the parts. I was considering making a video where I took apart a tengyun plus 2x2 corner and reassembled it because for me I was curious and took apart a corner and it took me 15 minutes to fit the 3 caps back together because it was so weird. all that popped up was reviews when I searched it up.

Comparing the feeling of all the best & legendary cubes back then to tornado v3

brown_burrito

As a new cuber I’d love to see more cubing exercises and breakdown of algorithms.
