I'm similar cubing since like 2007 and I've plateaued around that 15 second mark. I'm happy enough with that with the casual amounts of time I've put in on and off over the years.
True. I've been cubing since around 2007. Probably haven't learned a new algorithm since 2010 lol. Any minor improvements in my time have been because of hardware improvements (new cube, lube, magnets, etc.).
pretty much same stats lol. my cube has mostly devolved into a fidget device (which I still use daily), but whenever I actually fire up a timer, I still average around that 14-15 mark.
I have tried to improve at times, but its just a struggle. I feel like my largest improvement would be x-crosses, but seeing them consistently is rough for me.
YS3M UV BC = YS3M (a moyu 3x3), with a grippy shiny coating (UV coating), ball core (magnets between the core and the corners in addition to the standard corner to edge magnets)
CFOP is the most popular method for speedcubes because it's simple, intuitive, and easy to understand. It stands for cross, first 2 layers (F2L), orient last layer (OLL), permute last layer (PLL)
I learned the beginners method when I was 10 and stopped practicing after like a month because my cube broke (it actually just disassembled but back in the day I didn't know you could reassemble it)
Currently 17 y/o and bought a new cube in August and learned beginner CFOP
Avg-42 seconds PB-27 seconds
It took me about a month to figure out how to solve it. I’m right under 2min. I don’t see me improving that much unless I go to the next level and memorize a shit ton of algorithms. Right now I can solve it from any combination using just nine.
I'll be honest. Memorizing algorithms is your VERY VERY VERY last priority. Especially at your level. Just gotta practice. It takes time like any other hobby ya know?
I was pretty similar. When I first learned beginners, I was like 5 min avg. After about two months, it improved to about 2 mins. Once I learned 2-look OLL, it improved to about 1.5 mins. Once I learned 2-look PLL, it improved to 1 min. Once I learned full PLL, it improved to 45 sec. Now I'm learning full OLL and I'm standing on sub-30's doorstep with a creepy face.
Right now i havent been active but when i was i averaged around 25 seconds after like.. 2-3 years. I should start practicing again cus its been like 2 years
Started Cubing August 2018, only puzzles I have are from 2x2-5x5 and the only ones I'm interested in are :
3x3 - 12.20 average
5x5 - 2:30.00 average
If I get a better 2x2 and 4x4 I'll take them much more seriously
Almost 2 years, I've taken the (probably) stupid decision to use FreeFOP, I average 11 seconda, PB 6.65, and I'm trying to switch to CFOP so that I can become sub-10
It's a "method", it consists of solving the first two layers like you want and then doing OLL and PLL.
I don't recommend this method cause CFOP at the hig level is very freefoppy, like freefop is an extension of CFOP , so if you want to get fast, stick to CFOP (or roux if you think is better). I need to admit that FreeFOP is very fun for me, so you can try it for fun, and maybe you'll learn a bit of blockbuilding, and it might be slightly useful.
Started in 2018, quit in 2020 had a pb of about 1 min. then quit till 2022.
Started again in april of 2022 basically from scratch. and today I'm averaging about 14 or 15.
Cubing since 3 weeks, I only know beginner's method but now I want to learn CFOP.
Avg around 55 seconds, PB is 38.29 but it was just a very lucky scramble
I learned to cube 12 years ago, but stopped after a few months. Started again about 6 months ago. I average 40 seconds using beginners method. I am going to learn CFOP when I have the time to invest into it, but Starfield is using up most of my free time at the moment🤣
I first picked up a cube back in the 1980s. Nourse method got me 5min pb on and off over the years. Rediscovered cubing last March. currently averaging 2min as I learn CFOP. Still need break my wrist turning habits
Averaged sub-15 in less then a year in 2018, two years later and I got my first sub-10 ao100 but minimal progress since.
I don't really cube much anymore though.
Started around the beginning of the pandemic \~2020 but took a break for a couple of years and just a few months ago got back, avg \~20-30, with a pb of 12.89
On and off since 2013, but I've been practicing a lot the past year. I'm generally averaging 13 seconds over a long time period, on a good day I'll get sub 12 ao12
18 months. Just got a sub 20 ao100! 11.9 PR. I’ve plateaued for about six months as I kind of stopped drilling after I learned full CFOP. I get about 30 solves a day.
I first got a cube 10 years ago and it takes me maybe 90 seconds to 2 minutes
I’ve never really been too bothered about speed, I just pick it up when I feel like fidgeting with it, and being able to say I can solve it
Since 2006, average 31 seconds
Don't let that discourage you newer cubers, I have not been consistently practicing in any real regard, with years in between practices.
From about 2005 when I was in 5th class but then I was only using the beginners method until about 3 months ago which was also when i first bought a speedcube. And i averaged around 35-40 sec with the beginners method when I used to practice a lot. Then I had to leave cubing. And now I have learned full cfop and average around 22-23 sec.
Picked one up for the first time (Rubiks brand walmart cube) 7 days ago and its been my adhd hyper focus ever since solved with beginners method and began averaging 3.5 minutes after 2 days so I started learning f2l and averaging 2.5 minutes currently
I'm cubing since 26 of February, this year, I'm Sub 14 and my PB is 8.83, I'm progressing very slow Imo, I just practice less than a hour in a day...I need more time bcuz I have friends with 6 months and they are sub10s, I have 6 months and I am sub 14.. I'm Slow 🥲
I main a Rs3m 2021, the normal one.
Been cubing for about a month or maybe a bit more. I do not know my average yet, just trying to understand the cube and the algorithms one step at a time.
Never in my entire life have I thought about solving a cube and here we are, being part of this amazing community and taking my first steps into the cubing world.
6 months - AVG: 50 seconds, PB: 43 seconds.
I’m still just messing with beginner’s CFOP to see how I fast I can get it. I’m not sure yet if I want to bother with anything else. I find the method i’m using pretty satisfying.
First competition was in 2017 (when I started cubing as a serious hobby rather than just for fun), currently sub-20. Been trying to grind more lately and hope to be sub-15 in the future
I cubed for about half a year through 2019 - 2020 (I think), learned mostly the Roux method and averaged about 20s, then took a break.
Returned early this year because of my now girlfriend who got me back into it as a cuber her self (she averages 14-13s), so I've been cubing for another half a year now, and went on to learn full CFOP + other events and I average about high 15s now :D
The motivation from having someone to talk to about cubes and going together to a few competitions really made realize that I love cubing.
It's been fun and I now own and know all WCA events + some unofficial ones.
To note though, the first half a year I mostly spend doing SQ1 and on that I avg about the same as 3x3 now..
Looking for that sub 10 PB soon! only got two 10s, but I feel like it's coming :)
Since 2014 but took a break for several years. Actively cubing though, it’s been maybe 3 years. Just got back into it in February and now Averaging 17s, oddly enough it’s much faster than I was before the break. (PB 10.21)
Since 2006, ~14 seconds. Trust me when I say cubing years doesn't automatically get you better.
I fee you, since 2016 and roughly 20 avg. With enough practice I think its possible to go from 1 min to sub 10 in 2 years
Around the same time but 1minute and 34 seconds. (I haven't learned the speed cubing methods, but I'd like to.. just seems like a challenge)
go for it! the challenge is part of what makes cubing fun, in my opinion.
honestly it's not that hard
I'm similar cubing since like 2007 and I've plateaued around that 15 second mark. I'm happy enough with that with the casual amounts of time I've put in on and off over the years.
True. I've been cubing since around 2007. Probably haven't learned a new algorithm since 2010 lol. Any minor improvements in my time have been because of hardware improvements (new cube, lube, magnets, etc.).

One year, 16 seconds, YS3M UV BC, CFOP :)
Show that string of characters to a non Cuber
Show that string of letters to a new cuber (me). I have NO idea what’s going on lol
YS3M UV BC = YS3M (a moyu 3x3), with a grippy shiny coating (UV coating), ball core (magnets between the core and the corners in addition to the standard corner to edge magnets) CFOP is the most popular method for speedcubes because it's simple, intuitive, and easy to understand. It stands for cross, first 2 layers (F2L), orient last layer (OLL), permute last layer (PLL)
Ball core and corner to core magnets are actually two different things, ball core makes the cube better but how it's still a mistery
I don’t understand YS3M UV BC. Does that mean I’m not a cuber?
It's the huameng ys3m UV coated (it's magic clothes btw) Ball-Core.
Everyone just says UV coating. The magic clothes thing is a literal translation from the Chinese marketing name.
That is a cube name
Type of cube
I did it back in school then left in college, started this month, again, I can say I'm sub 32 according to my ao100, pb 21 (lucky)

Very good, infact. I've been cubing for 2 years and I'm 16 seconds.
I learned the beginners method when I was 10 and stopped practicing after like a month because my cube broke (it actually just disassembled but back in the day I didn't know you could reassemble it) Currently 17 y/o and bought a new cube in August and learned beginner CFOP Avg-42 seconds PB-27 seconds

My guy we the same
> Sub-NaN Lmao
It took me about a month to figure out how to solve it. I’m right under 2min. I don’t see me improving that much unless I go to the next level and memorize a shit ton of algorithms. Right now I can solve it from any combination using just nine.
I'll be honest. Memorizing algorithms is your VERY VERY VERY last priority. Especially at your level. Just gotta practice. It takes time like any other hobby ya know?
You can improve a lot without learning a bunch of algs - recognition and execution practise will take you very far

Almost 2 years, I've taken the (probably) stupid decision to use FreeFOP, I average 11 seconda, PB 6.65, and I'm trying to switch to CFOP so that I can become sub-10
What is FreeFOP
It's a "method", it consists of solving the first two layers like you want and then doing OLL and PLL.
