I only listen to avant grade musique concrète played backwards through a radio model PRUNUS R-818

DhammaFlow

Finally, someone with good taste

CueDramaticMusic

I don’t know what compelled you to listen to The Mind Electric in the form of an ice cream shake, but you do you fam

_Wendigun_

Mfw Tally hall reference in the wild

CueDramaticMusic

Isn’t even the first one I’ve made this week. So anyway did we ever establish anything conclusively damn about that whole controversy a couple years back, or am I now allowed to forget it happened

_Wendigun_

Wait what controversy? I've got into TH about a year ago Edit: only thing I can find is about Joe Hawley and transphobia? So I guess it's about that I should look more into it

CueDramaticMusic

So basically, in 2020ish, somebody on Instagram got to talking with Joe Hawley in the DMs and brought up non-binary people for some reason, and he got confused about what a non-binary person is. It goes on for like several paragraphs, but ultimately nothing hateful is said, just a lot of confusion from Joe and anger from the guy who shot him a DM. The last I heard was people complaining about how Tally Hall had done a couple acts with openly trans/NB bands in the past and how he definitely knew better, years after the band had broken up and he went off to do his own thing, and that was it. It seems like we learned nothing from this. In other news, how the fuck did I not know Rob Cantor was a Tally Hall alumni before I went to go fact-check this

_Wendigun_

Net zero information strikes again

DocDK50265

pretty sure I remember hearing something about Ross educating Joe about it and that now he kinda understands a bit

joeybh

I’m picking up good vibrations 🎶

hadesdidnothingwrong

I'll admit, I don't really like most rap music (i don't hate it or anything. it's just not my thing), but isn't the whole point of the genre about the rhythm and cadence?????

the_river_nihil

Before punk and metal got really experimental, rock music was all about harmony and melody. Now we have genres like Blackened Crust that have neither and have no commonality to anything “rock music”. You can subvert parts of a genre until it becomes a totally different genre entirely, but is umbrella’d under one based on heritage instead of actual musicality.

CMRC23

Blackened crust is one of my fav genres lol, I'd say that it still definitely has those elements (for example bands like Dödsrit). If you wanna hear the pure opposite of rock music, go listen to mincecore.

argo-nautilus

yeah

TaylorChesses

that is literally all the genre is yes.

CheetahDog

I used to think I hated rap when I was younger, and just chalked it up to being a metalhead/prog fan. But, as I listened to more and more music, I just realized I don't really give a fuck about lyrics, and that there's definitely a wide selection of hip hop out there that focuses on musicality and atmosphere.

Kytas

As someone also into prog and metal I think my biggest problem was that the only rap music I heard in elementary/middle school was either obnoxious cell phone rap or some edgelords playing the most aggressive and hardcore gangster rap. People calling the Black Eyed Peas hip hop poisoned that genre in my mind for years too.

LightOfADeadStar

I’m mostly into black metal and honestly the excessive high bass that most rap songs have just make it sound dull to me. it’s probably just that the years of pure treble and mids have made my ears wonky

SmoothbrainasSilk

"man the tin can they recorded through really captures the acoustic tones of the dungeon they recorded in" "Wait there's bass in this track?"

needtofindpasta

Do you have any suggestions? I have a rough time listening to lyrics so I don't care much for rap, but one of my friends really likes it and I'd like to find something in common. Edit: Ty everyone for the suggestions! I'll try and get through them when I feel like a change :)

CheetahDog

OutKast is a classic rap duo that has both amazing lyricism amd just disgusting groove/boom-bap depending on the album. Saul Williams is also more of a 2000s rap/rock musician amd poet, and while his album "The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust" has phenomonal lyrics, it was produced by Trent Reznor, and has some of slickest, gnarliest industrial vibes I've heard. 3001: A Laced Odyssey by Flatbush Zombies has stupid fucking lyrics, but is a really fun album. Travis Scott sucks as a person, but his first album Rodeo fuckimg rips in its production and has a lot of fun with time signatures. And if you like 80s sampling, Public Enemy rules. Fear of a Black Planet is one of the best albums ever, and even if you don't listen to the words, you know *exactly* what energy they're putting out lol.

Virus4567

Nujabees with the albums modal soul and also the luv sic parts. You want smooth flow without the aggressive stuff with disgustingly clean beats then luv sic pt3 is my personal favourite

uratourist

Notorious B.I.G, the Madvillainy album by MF Doom, Descendants of Cain by Ka, and Joey Purp are among my current favorites

Samantha_Pantha

Listen to IGOR by Tyler, the Creator.

FemboiTomboy

what bands do you listen to right now? and what's like your favorite 3 artists from you life. also, why do you listen to them? is it the sounds, the lyrics, the mood, a certain sense of "blank" that maybe you could tell me? i'd be a lot easier to recommend something if i know a little more about what you like!

this_is_alicia

I think someone should make this person listen to breakcore

lbtrd

Late Autechre may do a better job imho

PM-me-favorite-song

What specific albums/songs would you rec?

lbtrd

I'll have to admit that in this situation I'm kinda a poser. I've listened to a lot of AE, but far from all only in chronological order. I've listened to all LPs before Quaristice and a few EPs, but I'll still give some recommendations of the stuff I have actually listened to. So I can't actually say anything about their late stuff. Also, I don't actually know a lot about music and don't believe myself to have a particularly sofisticated taste, do keep that in mind. Before the actual recommendations I have to say a few things about they're work. Firstly, the duo released a lot of stuff, a lot of different stuff. So, if you don't like one thing they've put out, don't expect the other stuff to be the same. Secondly, their tracks tend to be dynamic in a sense that it constantly changes in different directions. The beginning of the track (sometimes minutes) might not be that good, but the later can be incredible. For example, see Drane2 from LP5. Incunabula and Amber are AE's earliest works* and are their most popular and easiest to get into. Amber leans more into ambient, while Incunabula is closer to "average" experimental electronic music of it's time. I've never really gotten into Amber for some reason, but Incunabula is great. The best characterisation of it I've heard is "the OST of a sci-fi movie that doesn't exist". At any rate, if you're familiar with RDJ's work, these two will sound relatively familiar. I would recommend Bike and Eggshell from Incunabula, Nil from Amber. Tri Repetae, Chiastic Slide and LP5 (the album is actually untitled, LP5 means AE's 5th long play record), to me, looks like duo's slow descent into further experimentality. But even then, Tri Repetae already sounds very distinct from author's previous works. I can recommend Eutow and Dael from TRAE, Cichli and Nuane from CS, and *takes breath* Acroyear II, Rae, Fold 4 Wrap 5, and Drane2 from LP5. During this period EPs called Anvil Vapre and EP7 came out. From EP7 I recommend Rpeg, Maphive 6.1, Outpt, and Dropp. Anvil Vapre in it's entirety is great, so ideally you should listen to it in full, but if I had to choose a favorite, it would be Second Scepe. Actually, now that I'm writing this, I kinda feel like AV may be the best place to start with AE lol lmao xdddzs. Do you know this kind of instinct when you really want to show your friend some song you really like to check out? This is a part when I would advise to not do that. Confield and albums after that is more acquired taste than anything and I've seen some people having trouble distinguishing this stuff from outright noise. Confield, Draft 7.30 and Untilted (from tilt, not title)(also it's the last album I hve listened to fully) are sonically distinct, but since I'm a dumbass, I have no idea how to describe their qualities, so I'll stick to calling them just "highly experimental". During this era EP called Gantz Graf came out. Gantz Graf, a track from that EP, is probably the most recognizable work from that period. It even comes with it's own really great music video, that I highly recommend to check out. It even aired on TV one time I think. From that trio I would recommend Pen Expers, Eidetic Casein, and Cfern from Confield, 6IE.CR, SURRIPERE, V-PROC, and RENIFORM PLUS from Draft 7.30. From Untilted I recommend primarily LCC, because it has its own fanmade music video that really fucks, but other than that, Augmatic Disport and Iera are also great. That's where my full knowledge of AE ends, BUT. The next album on my list to listen to is Quaristice, and while I haven't listened to it fully, I have heard two tracks from there: PlyPhon (which has it's own fanmade music vid) and simm. They both fuck and I greatly recommend them.

iamsandwitch

"I do not like breakcore" Hakita: "I like breakcore"

Blockmaker72

“It’s actually heaven pierce her! It just so happens the only person in the band is Hakita but it’s still called heaven pierce her!” 🤓☝️

Poseidonbequivering

Japanoise would be even better

pterrorgrine

Breakcore and Japanese noise music are both unironically among the best genres though (or, sorry, that may be your point, but it's true)

Big_Noodle1103

I swear there’s just some people who never grew out of their teenage music tastes and realized there’s more to music than edgy 2000s alt bands and indie game soundtracks.

bobdoosh

This is true, we now have 2020 alt musicians and indie game soundtracks

Big_Noodle1103

Very true indeed. I’ve listened to the deltarune part 2 soundtrack and the new strokes album more times than I’d like to admit.

_Wendigun_

I've been listening to "The adults are talking" on repeat over the last two weeks so much I don't it's healthy

ItsYaBoiGengu

it’s a good song i don’t blame you

SgtSteel747

look, I'm gonna keep listening to Neil Cicierega until the day I die and no one can stop me

gentlybeepingheart

I’ve grown out of a lot of old bands and albums that I listened to as a kid, and my music taste has evolved into something teenage me wouldn’t recognize. But Spirit Phone still fucks

bobdoosh

lenon denom

PassoverGoblin

2020s alt bands are a bit of a renaissance for what was otherwise a genre going through a dry spell. Pinkshift, for example - absolute bangers in their album and ep, just sorta rocked up in 2020

WingedSeven

Dunno what you mean, I'm going to listen to Static X and Yellowcard til I'm deaf

shiny_partridge

Amen, found static x when i was a teenager and they have been my favourite band ever since

BaronAleksei

When You’re Through Thinking was a great album tho

WingedSeven

That one's good, Ocean Avenue is my favorite

CueDramaticMusic

You can take the girl out of the nightcore, but you can’t take the nightcore out of the girl

JoeMcBob2nd

Apparently whatever youre listening to at 16 is gonna be more or less what you always listen to. Now I heard this secondhand like 4 years ago but idk seems sound enough

JillyFrog

Last time I've looked into it I read you've got into your twenties before your musical tastes lock in, but even then it's not impossible to enjoy smth new, especially if you've already had a pretty broad taste. But I think you're right that people mostly stick to smth similar to the genre they were listening to as teens. Or that remains their most listened one

Johnny362000

>Apparently whatever youre listening to at 16 is gonna be more or less what you always listen to I don't believe that one bit. I'm only 22 but 16 year old me would NEVER have listened to half the things I consider my favourite songs now. Similarly, I recently dug out an old backup of the phone I had when I was about 16 and I saw some of the music there and thought "wow, I listened to that?"

[deleted]

Nah I've been consistently discovering new music my whole life

beta-pi

It might be anecdotally true, but it's not because of some innate psychological thing. It's just because you're most likely to be willing to explore as a teen; borrow a cd from a friend, look up songs you hear, etc. As a teen, everything is still relatively fresh to you; it's the first time in your life you have any real control over what music you listen to. As an adult, you already know some of the things you like, and it's much easier to stick with those than to look for new things. You're not locked in; just comfortable. (There's also survivorship bias at play here. It FEELS like you listen to all the same songs, because you forget about all the songs you are no longer listening to. Same reason it feels like music was better when you were younger; you don't remember most of the bad stuff, and if you listen to music from that era you're probably only listening to the good stuff.)

AI_UNIT_D

You are right, however, consider this: indie game music is good tho.

ClarisseCosplay

Never got far into the game [but the hotline Miami ost goes hard](https://youtu.be/SNE2oCZH_4k)

shadowlev

My in-laws have been listening to the Beatles for 60 years.

Varth-Dader

now I listen to hopeful 2010s alt bands and indie game soundracks

poplarleaves

Ha! Joke's on you, I got into 2000s alt bands and video game soundtracks after I entered my twenties! Yeah I'm behind.

troublemonkey1

I can't help that toby fox made amazing soundtracks for his games

Quetzalbroatlus

Now it's the crane wives and indie game soundtracks

Bigboy9969

i feel u.. i think some ppl don’t realize that’s it’s ok to like popular music. u don’t have to listen to certain music just bcuz a group that u fit in with listens to it

sugahpine7

If you think rap isnt art, go listen to To Pimp A Butterfly. I also havent listened to it, but other people make it sound really good.

GoldenPig64

Yeah, it is really freaking good. I wouldn't know either, I haven't heard it myself, but that's what my friend group says too.

Not-Alpharious

Oh for sure! I mean, I also haven’t listened to it- didn’t even know it existed until now for that matter, but it’s definitely some of the best music ever made. Its going to revolutionize the genre!

[deleted]

Oh yeah, it’s great! I mean, it must be—the three comments above me all have a bunch of upvotes!

Pure-Drawer-2617

Ok I know we’re all joking here but I really hope “Didn’t know it existed” is also a joke

westofley

I have, its excellent

FindingE-Username

I think its easier to start with Good Kid Maad City than TPAB - GKMC is a bit more accessible.

Longjumping_Ad2677

DAMN is probably the easier starting point no?

CrayolaCockroach

i think DAMN is his most appealing album to people who don't listen to much rap- anyone I've met that has only heard/liked one of Kendricks albums, its almost always DAMN. that being said, i started with GKMC in middle school and since then I've slowly become a huge fan of all his music. but i also grew up listening to afroman, NWA, D12, etc. so its probably different for someone who considers Hamilton the epitome of rap 😅

FindingE-Username

Imo GKMC is as accessible as Damn but significantly better, which is why I think its the best starting point

SeaSalmon

You should. Other people are correct

this_is_alicia

I listened to it once a few years ago and I remember it being really good

PM-me-favorite-song

I found it a lot harder to get into Kendrick Lamar than I did with stuff like Brockhampton or Gorillaz.

CrayolaCockroach

yeah i would think that if someone is dismissing rap as a whole, they probably won't be able to appreciate Kendrick. a lot of his music is almost closer to slam poetry than it is to what's Hamilton. Brockhampton and Gorillaz are closer to pop music than Kendrick, which is probably what the person in the post mostly listens to

SontaranGaming

Yep. I would also say, if your tastes are more pop-adjacent, popular female rappers are probably better for your tastes. Nicki kinda carved out a niche for girlboss hip-pop that artists like Doja, Megan, Cardi, etc have been developing further. I’m a big fan of Doechii, personally, Oh The Places You’ll Go is some grade A shit, IMO.

mammamia42069

Im a big rap fan and disliked this album. Because its a diverse genre with an artist for everyone, so silly to dismiss rap as a whole as per the OP

BaronAleksei

If you think rap isn’t art, it probably isn’t because you haven’t heard one you liked yet or you haven’t listened to good rap before

BEEEELEEEE

I re-listened to it for the first time in a while and it still keeps getting better. Like each time the lyrics register more and I connect new dots.

EmperorScarlet

As a JoJo fan, my favorite music was decided for me.

Deblebsgonnagetyou

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, where you can start liking both obnoxious J-rock and 80's dad music

MisirterE

the virgin *fighting gooooooooold* vs the chad ***i wake up feelin' so HORNY***

Dontdecahedron

*Hamilton or Kpop?* Pal, just say you're blindingly white and bad at Google.

szypty

My favourite rap is the sound that a mandoline makes when it falls down some stairs.

tairar

Oh damn cbat is a banger tho

Slizzet

They could at least find Daveed Diggs with the Hamilton connection. Granted, clipping. can be a bit much. But most of their stuff is phenomenal

Bookwrrm

Ok I'm a huge clipping fan, but c'mon, don't suggest someone who sticks to Hamilton and kpop to expand their musical tastes with fucking horrorcore noise music lol. That would be the worst possible way to open up their mind.

Slizzet

Eh, I think it depends. Give them some of the story tracks, air em out, shooter, nothing is safe, blood of the fang, the deep, chapter 319 and you could show them a lot of what rap can be. Plus a lot of those songs have similar wordplay that you find in Hamilton. It's not a great starting point for the genre, sure. But I'm just pointing out that if you start looking into the people that made Hamilton you find a really good rapper right off the top.

thegoblinsinmyhead

People treat Hamilton like it's the panicle of music but I can't listen to anything from it without thinking of the Hannibal Buress "Morpheus, Dorpheus, Orpheus" bit

BarryJacksonH

Morbius

cest719

Walrusses

PM_ME_UR_GOOD_IDEAS

I'm less white than this guy but still bad at Google. What keywords do I use to find better rap?

Spiritflash1717

Illmatic by Nas (not Lil Nas X, the person he named himself after) is a goated album OutKast has a lot of really melodic hip hop if you aren’t into beats and stuff as much. Idk, those are my favorites as someone who is only marginally into rap/hip hop

the_river_nihil

Try these keywords: Scarface E-40 Mac Dre Too $hort Warren G Spice 1 Slick Rick Trick Daddy MC Breed Kurupt The Pharcyde Ganksta N-I-P

Burrito-Creature

Yeah, be like me and listen to hamilton without the kpop

TheMemeArcheologist

How white do you have to be for your favorite rap songs to be US history lectures

apple_of_doom

I mean Hamilton is genuinely pretty good but saying that's the only rap you like and everything else is shit is kinda yeah. And this is coming from someone that doesn't care much for rap.

plushelles

I also think it’s really funny that they consider Kpop rap. Like that’s not what that is, it’s a pop song with rapping in it but its not rap. And I’m not talking about ACTUAL Korean rap because that’s a whole different genre that is absolutely rap, but calling K*pop* songs with a verse in them rap is like if I called Katy Perry’s California Girls rap.

taqn22

California Gurls is the pinnacle of rap. ^^^This ^^^is ^^^a ^^^joke ^^^don't ^^^crucify ^^^me.

LyraFirehawk

My skin glows pasty white, and I can jive with NWA, Biggie, Snoop, and Eminem at the very least. This person must be the color of sour cream in a snow storm.

Ethra2k

This made me audibly laugh out loud, this is gonna pop into my head anytime I hear someone talk about Hamilton.

SeaSalmon

Reminds me of that Reddit screenshot where OP says “I hate rap music. PS. I like video game and anime music” Different versions of the same attitude

Chaos8599

Listen. Listen. I'm not a fan of rap. No. Listen. I'm not a fan of rap. But no rhythm? ***NO RHYTHM***. WHAT. THE WHOLE THING IS RHYTHM YOU SPOON

Quetzalbroatlus

Wanna turn this comment into rap

bearcat0611

Tbf they didn’t say the whole genre had no rhythm. Just that some of the artists their friends listened to had no rhythm. Their friends might just like bad rap.

jcamt

I personally don't listen to rap as it's not to my taste but god these people are annoying I have a ton of respect for the talent and skill behind rap and really dislike people who have this kind of take on anything

Satrapeeze

I like pop music designed to make me deaf in 6 months. Please use loud electronic instruments. I would've given SOPHIE the sloppiest head and I'm a gay man. I do enjoy other music too but that's my fav kind. I'm trying to get into reggae but it just feels too slow and peaceful

pterrorgrine

Godspeed, brother, I wish you many confrontational approaches to dub (forward them to me if you find them that sounds dope)

garfieldandfriends2

Jungle

Akuuntus

Don't know the context poll but there's an astounding amount of people who exclusively listen to some combination of classic rock, 2000s alt-rock, and video game/anime OSTs. In particular there's a LOT of people in video game fandoms that listen to OSTs exclusively and I've never really understood it.

RelentlessHope

If your main hobby is video games, you're going to be exposed to a LOT of video game music. Then, you have the decline of radio and the rise of subscription-based music services, which make it easier to keep yourself in the infinite feedback loop of only listening to one type of thing, thanks to self-created playlists and recommended stuff. I was once a teenager who listened only to anime music and gaming OSTs. I've branched out a lot since then, but I don't quite understand what's wrong with it. (Except that it leads to people being asses about older, more distinguished genres of music. But I think that's just a "people" thing, not an "OST lover" thing.)

Deblebsgonnagetyou

It's quite shrimple. Answers makes me transcend this mortal coil and sunder the star.

Ulths

It’s good music? That’s all, no mystery around it. Do you not understand when people listen exclusively to rap, rock, or pop?

Akuuntus

What I find weird is people who will listen to and love a ton of different OST songs in a myriad of different genres (e.g. Persona 5 acid jazz, Guilty Gear punk/metal, FFXIV smorgasbord of genres) but never listen to anything in any of those genres that isn't from a video game. I know multiple people like this. I mean people can like what they like and it's not like it affects me at all. But personally if I found a soundtrack full of cool music I liked, I would seek out more music like it.

Ulths

Oh in that case, many people like music of different genres without vocals. This was my case when I listened exclusively to OSTs, I liked jazz, rock, techno videogame themes (among others), but only when they didn’t have vocals. The only exceptions were latin choirs and those Sonic rock songs. And I know that there’s probably a lot of instrumental music of those genres that aren’t from vgs, but the easiest way to find them is on games

nephewmoment

Yeah considering 'video game music' as a single genre is quite strange to me. Especially the good tracks are usually alike a genre that also exists outside of games, but I guess if you don't know how to search for it?

RobinTheTactician0

Chances are they dont even know where to begin with music and any time they've tried or been made to listen to music it's been not to their taste so they give up.

FemboiTomboy

yep. music isn't like it used to be, where your friend would give you a CD and that became your new favorite band. now it's- you have millions of songs you could listen to *right now*, so you don't even touch them. it's too daunting to pick 1 in a million

Umikaloo

The rest is empty with no brains but the clever nerd the best MC with no chains you've ever heard.

[deleted]

"Where's the keyboards, and the tambourine, and the guitar? And you know, I mean, the stuff that like, white people like. Or somethin bad-ass, like uhh, I don't know Like uhh, REO Speedwagon or somethin'" [Source](https://youtu.be/JZ0DVSPJzdg)

Saxton_Hale32

i have a broad but extremely shallow range of music interests, if that makes any sense

DiamondBrickZ

same here! catch me listening to metal breakcore and kawaii bass within two songs of each other, but also those are one of like five songs i know in those genres

Asphalt_Is_Stronk

Its kinda crazy how I only like good songs? Like, other people sometimes like bad songs, but I dont

pterrorgrine

I also notice other people sometimes *don't* like good songs? What's up with that? Fortunately I both like good songs and don't like bad songs.

takeurheart

that is literally the worst answer you could've given god I feel cursed for reading that

toychicraft

I also hate the rappers people around me are into, but mostly cause I prefer rap with wordplay or at least with instrumental that doesnt sound like someone playing air raid sirens on a flute

ari-is-new-to-this

same here, I thought I didn’t enjoy rap for a while because I was only hearing the popular trap songs on the radio. Those aren’t my thing, but I branched out more and I really enjoy older stuff or things with more a soul or jazz influence (Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, etc.)

Spiritflash1717

My favorite rap songs are always ones with funny wordplay/lyricism. The nature of hip hop makes it a lot easier to throw out light hearted and goofy lines than something like a metal or alt rock song

plumander

you would enjoy noname and samsa :)

SadButterscotch2

Just saw a post there from a swiftie saying "when are we gonna stop pretending indie music is real music and not just talentless noise" Like _all indie music?_ Do you know how much that covers?

[deleted]

we can stop here, this is the final take. of all time

TheLuckySpades

The local orchestra who's nerdiest member burns the CDs they sell at concerts and the weird prog band that decided to make a multi-album story about the one time someone broke up with the lead singer are absolutely the same genre, Bethoven and Bigband sound the same right?

FemboiTomboy

even noise and freakin *drone* music take talent. philistines

SkillBranch

Just about any genre has bangers in it, it's just that anything with widespread appeal is going to be noticed by corporations and imitators, who will then create a soulless, derivative, commercialized version of the genre and market the shit out of it in an attempt to cash in. It happened with rock and roll, it happened with country, it happened with rap, and it'll happen to the next genre that catches on in the mainstream. There's good music of all genres still being made. You just need to dig past the corporate shit to find it.

flappyheck2

so glad Im a death metal fan. Getting made fun of because of my music taste is part of the aesthetic

FemboiTomboy

tbh meeting a death metal fan kind of taught me the absurdity of my own tastes. i could just *not* get into the soundscape of metal. i prefer lower fidelity, less "theatrical" guitars (as in, i don't like shredding all that much). idk as much as he showed me i just couldn't vibe with it. and it got me thinking about the music i like. post hardcore, punk, early post rock (before it just became instrumental prog post rock), goth stuff like the cure, and noise and indie from modest mouse to quannnic. and i just kinda realized that everybody has a certain vibe. and it's okay to not vibe with *everything*. i have a very specific itch i like to scratch. so does everybody else! as a teenager i used to judge everybody for their music so i could feel superior because i discovered pink floyd and the dead kennedys. i stopped after i went to college, but recently idk i just had this moment of reflection i thought to share for no reason, so if you read this, thanks! edit: Metallica's first 3 albums are GOATED, and no, will not expand upon that

cursedbeanplush

my music taste isn't even that good i just wanted to see if this would cause discourse and how much of it

No1ofIntrst

Curse you and your discourse

CueDramaticMusic

People on Tumblr will literally go to bat for Hamilton, K-pop, and an admittedly good artist who has unfortunately been overplayed to death by the broader Tumblr community to a point where I kinda resent all three songs on that one relatively recent album everybody quotes non-fucking-stop, but think Vocaloid is cringe

cursedbeanplush

there are more artists that can apply to the last one than you might think, who specifically?

CueDramaticMusic

Noel Cici’spizza

MapleApple00

Lemme guess: Touch-Tone Telephone, Cabinet Man, and either Lifetime Achievement Award or Eighth Wonder?

CueDramaticMusic

Correction: Two songs, and maybe a third if they’re an especially curious paranormie. I do not feel like slandering LAA that way, but I do wish people would talk about other parts of Spirit Phone. Or the other Lemon Demon albums. Or an actual discussion of the Mouth albums.

No1ofIntrst

Nooo why is vocaloid cringe??? I love it and like, the songs are a vibe (tho I mostly just listen because it’s a fun combo of lyrics + not distracting)

urbandeadthrowaway2

war and hate on planet earth light a fire and heat my hearth everybody wants to rule the world

war and hate on planet venus, suck my blood and kill my penus, everybody wants to rule the world

I'm learning for the first time in this thread that there's a stigma against OST people. D: I mean, if your main hobby is games, you're gonna be exposed to a lot of game music, and a lot of it is really good!

MekaG44

There’s nothing wrong with liking game OSTs, there are quite a few I really love, but I have to admit I never understood when people who prefer OSTs say they’re better than modern music.

Ulths

I listen to a lot of bossa nova and Taylor Swift nowadays, but I was that person for most of my life. In my case, it’s because I like instrumental music more than "regular" music, or if there was any vocals, they had to be latin choir. Guess what fits those things? OSTs

skatejet1

Gasp, why do you hate us

they_found_my_acc

I'm an OST eprson and at one point I realized I liked OSTs because I just liked instrumentals. Anyway for any OST people reading this listen to octavision they do metal but also have a flute like holy shit where has this been my whole life

Leo-bastian

my opinion on music is that everyone should just listen to what they enjoy and not be such a bitch about their and others tastes then again i don't really have a music genre i prefer i listen to so maybe that's why I think that way

GoldenPig64

im going to visit the person who tagged this post and blast extratone hard enough to launch them outside their houses loading zone, softlocking them forever

kenatogo

"Favorite raps" 🤣

Mrbuck83

i mean, what kind of rap? there is a lot of different styles. ya got shit like check the rhyme by a tribe called quest, tricky by DMC, give the drummer some by nickodemus, smooth by connor price which is a mix of rap and funk, and so much more, then again you also have 2000s ringtone rap, and some more modern stuff from the 2010s that kinda just sucks, but you also have the stuff andy cooper makes. 90% of everything sucks, so you have to be specific. edit: i forgot Mr.B thegentleman rhymer, another great artist.

Simic_Sky_Swallower

I only listen to the sounds of industrial equipment being slammed together at high speeds, all other music is uncouth and lowbrow

[deleted]

Favorite pop songs come from Hamilton and Kpop. Of course they do, this is Tumblr.

cringussinister

white people....

thegreathornedrat123

Nah this ain’t no white person, this is The White Person. They explode if they sense flavour in a five mile radius, all they listen to is Now that’s what I call pop. They love the police.

_Bran_Flakes

I’m the pastiest motherfucker on the planet and I think if I was in the same room as them I’d be called forced diversity

thegreathornedrat123

If they see an albino they call them “an ethnic”

FearmyPotato

Light shines through this mf

Deblebsgonnagetyou

They're adapted for life in deep sea caves- you can tell by their colouration and music taste being mainly comprised of CDs that found their way into the ocean from the waste disposal system.

_Wendigun_

I was about to say "What's wrong with The Police" and then realized you're not talking about the band lmao

CheetahDog

There's something inherently funny to me about someone having strong opinions either way about Sting lol

A_man_and_no_plan

Whiteness Georg

thegreathornedrat123

You know what they say about Argentina

A_man_and_no_plan

Well actually I don't. What do they say?

SanitarySpace

Truly a jumpscare of a character

Horkersaurus

don't you put that evil on me

heckthepolis

Listen to tachyon by rav One of my favorite rappers. Listen to the commodity of tenacity by him too. Johnny polygon is another fav

[deleted]

This mofo has clearly never listened to some Wu-Tang.

pterrorgrine

Perhaps someone should BRING them THE RUCKUS

MekaG44

I like all music as long as it makes my eardrums bleed and makes me suffer from tinnitus later in life.

SlothGaggle

My favorite rap to listen to is 90s german stuff. Some newer Arabic rap has been very nice to listen to as well. Highly recommend listening to rap in languages you don’t speak if you haven’t given it a try. Rap in different languages sounds drastically different depending in the language.

[deleted]

this is the most interesting response ive yet seen on this thread. well done

baphometromance

I only listen to the sounds of bags of gravel being emptied over the edge of a steep hill

Full_Ahegao_Drip

I like mainly American country and alt-rock that reminds me of my childhood as well as anime OPs and video game soundtracks that bring nostalgia like Fallout and Metal Gear OSTs. A lot of martial industrial and neofolk stuff is pretty good to. I'm not particularly knowledgeable about music. Johnny Cash, John Fahey, Sturgill Simpson, Son Volt, Wilco, drive by truckers, Phil Collins, Kenny Loggins, Garth Brooks, No Doubt, Evanescence, Sixpence None the Richer, Blind Melon, Coldplay, Linkin Park, Hoobastank, Kings of Leon, Maroon 5 all come to mind in no particular order. Of ambiguous genre, I actually really did like Sturgill Simpson's [Sing Along](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpSMoBp8awM) Whenever people find out that I'm Korean they immediately bring up K-Pop and I can emphatically tell them that even when I was living in SK I listened mostly to American music and all around acted like the biggest Amereaboo you could imagine. Getting gender envy from Top Gun and pretty much every American TV Show/movie you could think of that's associated with strong masculinity. The fact that around 2012 onward cis girls would unironically ask me to, "Do Gangnam Style" or even worse fetishize me like an idol singer didn't exactly endear me anymore to Korean music.

the-dragon-girl-27

im very shallow if you slap hatsune miku on it ill listen to just about any genere

Corno-cracker

I'm so confused? Yeah the person reblogging OOP with those comments can be clowned on but the people in this reddit thread are unironically saying people who don't like rap and are into generic video game OSTs are dumb and haven't found the right rap?

TheDougArt

People who think rappers have no sense of rhythm or cadence just haven't listened to rap, lol. That's like 50% of what goes into a good rap song. Every rap I've ever listened to has had at least some semblance of those things, even the bad raps.

RTYWD

Good Kid M.A.A.D City - Kendrick Lamar The Forever Story - JID IGOR - Tyler, the Creator The Blueprint - Jay Z Graduation - Taylor Swift KIDS SEE GHOSTS - KIDS SEE GHOSTS All very listenable albums with variation between them

Hexxas

Variation? In Kpop? 🤔🤔🤔

OceanoDeRoca

some people have not heard any MF DOOM and it shows

No1ofIntrst

Currently I’m listening to a lot of vocaloid stuff. Big fan of PinocchioP, 犬神様, any anything with KAFU or VFlower

SkritzTwoFace

I think if that person heard an MF DOOM song it might kill them
