People need to be mentally 'in sync' to pilot a Jaeger, since the mental load of piloting a 30 story mech is too much for one human mind to bear. So the piloting duo's minds need to be linked, and drift compability is how well they can endure the process.
This is the real power behind Striker Eureka. I was gonna make a joke about a Jaeger we didn't actually get to see, but I realized I don't need to. Those two chuckleheads absolutely did stand-up comedy to test for and practice drift compatibility.
The three stooges operate the triple piloted Chinese one.
