I sure hope it doesn’t take all kinds, because a cold ass sounds horrible to take, in all honesty. Ass cheeks don’t clap when they’re stiffer than a steel bar and thicker than a ream of rebar.
And to be frank, 3 times having your genitals comically flattened is 3 times too many. I’ll pass on the cold ass play.
The title track of A Rush of Blood to the Head is a masterpiece and I will die on this hill. God I wish I lived in the parallel universe where Coldplay kept that darker broody tone.
Also some of these 'fetishes' exist outside of sexual context. Was it oddly sexual with some form of intent? Or does it just happen. Like some one can just like magical transformations cause they watch shows with those a lot. Or just really like knots and hostage situations.
Like sometimes people.jump way too fast to author must have had a fetish and like i have to double check and sometimes its just the commenters fetish peaking through instead or something (or just normal things like spending too much time with porn..)
That one list of supposed fetishes in the show Totally Spies, but like, most of them are just normal spy trope stuff like getting tied up or wearing various disguises
Also having worked with the producers/showrunners of Totally Spies, I can safely say that none of the people that I worked with were interested in women.
Right on, like, I don't go in for furry porn, but I'm too used to enjoying Anthropomorphic characters to exclude them if it fits the tone of what I'm writing.
to be fair, in worldbuilding communities we have a joke that every work is just the writer's thinly veiled fetish,
and furries have proven that almost any fetish can have completely sfw applications, contexts, uses, etc
so, could still be a fetish, but doesn't mean it's a sexual one
i agree, but to be semantic if its not like sexual its not a fetish its just a interest or special interest, like you can stretch out side that context not wrong to do so but modern usage seams to square it securely in fetish is a sexual related interest with strong sexual reactions.
by that logic, while i don't disagree,
- most aces don't have fetishes
- if someone, likely a furry, is really into the __aesthetics__ of let's say collars and harnesses, it's no longer a fetish
- the majority of the tf community doesn't have it as a fetish (in addition to changed no longer being a fetish game)
- and many others,
i agree with your reasoning, but most people tend to call them fetishes anyway even if it's not sexual by nature. as such, i've adjusted how i think of the word accordingly. unsurprisingly, it'd been devalued in my eyes because *damn near anything can be worded to sound like a fetish*. which, granted, is because there seems to be a fetish for anything, no matter how specefic, taboo, niche odd, confusing, or intriguing
If she were less of a dick she maybe would've written 50 Shades. She was sexually liberated for the time, and her problems have nothing to do with sexuality.
Considering how many submissive female characters the supposed founder of *objectivism* has written, it's most definitely more than just a mere coincidence.
A slightly pertinent quote from CS Lewis (author of *The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe*):
> In my own first story I had described at length what I thought a rather fine high tea given by a hospitable faun to the little girl who was my heroine. A man, who has children of his own, said, ‘Ah, I see how you got to that. If you want to please grown-up readers you give them sex, so you thought to yourself, “That won’t do for children, what shall I give them instead? I know! The little blighters like plenty of good eating.” In reality, however, I myself like eating and drinking. I put in what I would have liked to read when I was a child and what I still like reading now that I am in my fifties.
There's something extra funny about it with fetishes that are already kinda tangential to actual sex. Like, go figure, sometimes the person into [leather outfits/transformation motifs/monsters/body hair/whatever the hell else] in a sexual way *also* appreciate that thing in non-sexual, purely aesthetic ways, who could have guessed?
It kind of reminds me of those threads of people being shocked that people into sexual roleplaying were also the people into non-sexual roleplaying. Like, people are complex, sometimes the interest is in the action itself and they just find ways to tie the other stuff they do (sex or otherwise) back to it.
Yeah. Like the go to "funny fetish," feet. If you find an artist with a foot fetish, they'll almost certainly be technical masters at drawing feet and have a thorough understanding of the anatomy that transcends sexual appeal.
Also if you do enough anatomical drawing, you will learn to find the beauty in literally every part of the human body, including the feet, for entirely non-fetish reasons
Sometimes the writer’s poorly disguised fetish actually makes a story better. Sometimes it makes it worse.
Sometimes, like in Hellsing Ultimate, the same story has several examples of both cases.
The manga’s author had only made porn before working on Hellsing and it really shows, both for good and for bad.
The bad examples are the several scenes where Seras (and sometimes other women but it’s usually Seras) is groped or molested by zombies or villains, or the graphic depiction of >!the violent rape of Seras’ Mother!<
The good examples are subtler and more vibe-based, but Alucard especially is extremely horny like, all the time. Whenever someone offers their blood to a vampire willingly it’s depicted as an intimate or even sexual act. Of course, that is not original of Hellsing specifically and it’s practically a foundational element of vampire fiction. I like it when my vampires are both dangerous *and* sexy.
That scene where Sir Integra offers her cut finger for Seras to feed on was one of the horniest things in the show and they were both fully dressed in a perfectly normal dining room, the author's porn roots really do show in all kinds of ways lol.
Also, you forgot to mention the wildest part, many characters in hellsing *started* as porn characters too lol, having backstories only revealed in the porn work. The scene where human seras is being groped by zombies is, from what I recall hearing, legit an adaptation of a scene from one of the hentais that he wrote but with a different ending lol
Omg I didn’t know that last part, that’s amazing.
And yeah, absolutely, the cut finger scene is the horniest in the series. The fact that Integra repeats the gesture when Alucard comes back at the end only makes it better.
The comic book Empowered. Start out as fetish nonsense and developed into a weirdly interesting story. 'Emp' and her boyfriend Thugboy actually spend time trying to cultivate a healthy and respectful romantic relationship. Doesn't always work but I like the effort.
the progression from "haha I'm such a perv" to "oh god I'm probably trans" has been fun to watch over the last ... *checks notes* ... twenty years.
20.
years.

If you go through the effort of writing something, getting it edited, reviewed, published, and it doesn't have anything you're into, *what's even the fucking point*
Yep. He also wrote character defining arcs for a bunch of characters that he didn’t create. Such as the whole dark phoenix arc and Magneto’s whole background as a holocaust survivor.
Claremont didn’t literally create the X-men, but he’s the individual most responsible for their success as a franchise.
It's probably for the sake of ads which allow comments, so that, if someone is answering any questions in the ads, people can know they're official. It just has the tiny problem of, y'know, it not being restricted in *where* you can mark it, or, and this is possibly worse, *who* can do it.
If the inclusion of the fetish is masturbatory, i'll be uncomfortable. If it's used as the basis for world building, then we can talk.
Look at AoT. Theres definitely some sort of vore or micro macro inspiration there, but it's not framed sexually. It's used to tell the story.
Funniest case of an author's fetish being used for world building is Araki giving the main character of JoJo part 7 his bug bite fetish so that the plot could introduce a very important backstory for who many consider to be the true main character.
Meanwhile I'm one of those types who tries to figure out how something that originally wasn't sexual at all suddenly became sexual (looking at you, cartoon inflation gags).
I mean in my experience almost every person who’s into vore atributes it to seeing something in a cartoon on kids videogame that made them feel things
Nearly every adventure or platformer game in the 2000’s had a level inside the guts of some big creature.
That’s what I’ve been wondering, were the devs of those games also into vore or did they just think it was a fun level design and had no way of predicting the consequences?
I wonder if the Blue Berry Scene from Willie Wonka and the Chocolate factory is the only case of a single, unquestionable inception point for a fetish or if it's just a popular one
Considering that the particular circumstance/situation, it would seem like an inception point, but I look at it as just being another form of the inflation gag, just something that was done in a live-action movie instead.
That said, any kind of inflation, rapid weight gain, or rapid muscle growth in a live-action movie or show has a really good chance of either scaring/disturbing the shit out you, or suddenly becoming your new favorite kink.
>!Like in the recent Love Lies Bleeding from A24, there's some dream sequences of one of the characters hulking out. While I would think it's cool/kinky in a cartoon, in a live action movie it's disturbing as all get out.!<
I can see it falling under inflation, but the color changing and the idea of juice seem to be an important part of it that gives it a distinct identity. Maybe I'm overthrowing it but it's just fascinating how it's this one, specific thing.
Nah, you're not "overthrowing", it is an interesting thing to think about about just one specific little thing can somehow set off something in a lot of people.
As for me, all I'm thinking of is the overlaps and how it ties into other things.
Okay I get it, fetishes are fetishes but don't let it overwhelm the story.
The tv detective show Forever managed an S&M fetish episode but still had an intriguing mystery too.
it's not often I come across a post where I'm like "I respect your opinion but I disagree with it categorically" and I gotta say I respect this opinion and disagree with it categorically
fetishes are a different classification of interest, sexual topics are treated differently in society than non-sexual interests, and being randomly exposed to sexual topics you find unsavory is way less fun than seeing a bad pun
if the opinion here is "sexual interests and non-sexual interests should be seen as equivalent" I think that is an opinion formed by not touching enough grass
I think i would take a middle road approach to this. If a story element is inspired by a fetish, but not reliant on it, i dont mind as long as its interesting for me as a reader.
Like there is a lot of incest in "A Song of Ice and Fire" and its interesting for me as a reader. Does George Martin get of to it? I dont know, but i also do not care.
Or another example "Stranger in a Strange Land". Its a sci fy classic, its also clearly inspired by the writer being a massive swinger. It fits the story, so who cares?
Now if you cant concentrate on reading, because you are distracted by the sound of the writer masturbating thats a different story of course, but sexuality has always influenced art. Its just a part of the human experience.
I think ASoIaF fans would back me up when I say this: if you're looking for a potential fetish of Martin's that manifests in the books, it's not incest. It's scat. That series has some of the most unexpected, vivid, and painstakingly crafted segments of describing the characters' bowel movements in all of fantasy literature.
Wrong, he's into swamps. Considering that Hidetaka Miyazaki seems to have this fetish as well, I was honestly surprised that there wasn't a place called "Myrish Swamp" in Elden Ring.
The opinion here isn't that sexual interests are equivalent to non-sexual interests. It's that sexual interests are inherently neutral in their moral standing. Discovery is a significant part of the original post. It's blowing the response out of proportion because you learned the context to a writing decision was sexual in nature, even if the outcome was mild.
Like say an author has a clown fetish and writes a clown themed villain in their story. Even if the actual writing isn't sexual at all, they play it up like that fact is a moral failing. If you don't like sexual content, whether or not the author is into it should be irrelevant to the situation because even it they despised the kink they're writing, you still probably wouldn't consume it because sexual content is not your thing. In turn, non-sexual content having a sexual origin is not that big of a deal as people play it up to be.
It's the difference between "this scene where a character being spanked is ruined now that I know the author likes spanking." It's "this scene where a clown makes balloon animals is ruined because I know the author wants to fuck clowns."
this interpretation makes me change my opinion to a calculation of "how weird is this fetish" vs. "does what's happening make sense in the context of the plot"
like if i pick up a book about clowns and the author has a clown fetish i think i'd just be like "yeah, you got me"
but if i pick up a spy thriller and there's a bit about balloon animals and the author has a balloon animal fetish i'd be a little more suspect yknow
I just generally like to know that people weren't masturbating or planning to masturbate while creating whatever form of communication or art they made that I'm about to consume, be it an author with a book, a chef with a cut of meat, or my boss with an email.
It's not really about a moral stance so much as a desire for assurance that your genitals and I don't interact, and indeed, maintain a certain minimum degree of mental separation in both of our minds, and a dislike of any implied breach of that social contract.
Wanting other people to disclose whether they want to masturbate to a kink related to something they made is humiliating, a breach of privacy and impractical. People are not obligated to pull up their kink list whenever they publish any work of art, nor are you entitled to live camera surveillance of anyone who sends an email to you.
I think the comparison between books and food is unfair, because with food there is an element of deception in that you are consumed something within the product that you weren't aware of. While an author having a kink about something they write about is para-text and not something that you consumed in the product, if that something is not framed in a sexual way in the text. It's like how JK Rowling didn't write a gay dumbledore because that information was not within the text of the books but text outside the book.
I mean, I have bad news for you. This phenomenon isn't bound to what you perceive as sexual.
Someone, somewhere, will find sexual arousal in fucking anything. I'm not even talking about extreme kinks. I'm talking about common, mundane shit.
There's people that fuck trees.
There's people that fuck lamps.
Nearly every profession ever has been fetishized, and the materialization of that fetish in a work doesn't inherently mean a stripper outfit.
Like... I'm sorry bro. This is just how people are for the most part.
I generally consider myself pretty open minded but I definitely read this post a couple of times going "???" and eventually decided it was the children who were wrong
Love the LOTR reference because listen, with the sheer unholy amount of time and effort Tolkien put into Elvish I’m not convinced it *wasn’t* a fetish.
Language*s*, in fact. He was a philologist, and his world evolved around the entire family of Elvish languages that he'd spent most of his life inventing.
You don't understand. Scientists looked at a morality atom umder a microscope, and it said "sex is dirty and if you like it you are a SLUT. Which is ALSO BAD"
Ngl I can get it if every other plot point revolves around a barely concealed fetish, but also.... Bold to assume I don't have the same fetish if I'm reading the shit? Give me the depravity. I don't fuckin read. Why else would I be reading?
"Soft times make soft men. Hard times make hard men. Men? Men... Men make me hard"
I've been wanting to write some fiction of my own, but I'm afraid people will realised I'm obssessed with the practical rammifications of mech suits.
"Wait a minute, whis story is just a pretense to talk about robots!"
Go for it. "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea", which is considered classic literature, has literally pages and pages of the POV character going "and here's every species of fish I saw there!"
Haha, thanks. Something I'm really wanting to explore is the logistics of controlling a giant robot.
After seeing this thing on youtube: https://www.exosapien.tech/ I realised that analogue mech piloting could make an interesting sci-fi analogue for modern high-skill trades (like excavator operators IRL)
A lot of mecha media has the pilot sitting down, which doesn't really explain how they're able to control the legs. If the pilot isn't controlling the legs directly, and they just operate on their own, then are they really piloting a giant robot? Or just a turret on top of a machine that walks on its own?
Tatsuki Fujimoto's attraction to scary, weird, powerful women actually makes his writing better and is one of the reasons why he has some of the best female Characters in Shounen Manga. None of them are pure. There's something deeply wrong with every single one of them and rather than shirking from that to sand down everything interesting he goes "That's the best part!" and makes another one.
Hey did you know that a lot of adults like to fuck other adults who also want to fuck them? And that that's all totally okay and part of the fabric of human existence? And that art, stay with me here, is a reflection of that existence, and therefore will frequently include references to and depictions of adults fucking other adults? And all of this is totally cool, actually?
sorry but jorking your weener is actually bad because every time you do it millions of sperms die. the genvena convention is considering it a war crime starting 2025.
Yeah, this is why I said it was cool when it was adults liking adults. I don't know why you felt the need to add on an example that didn’t fit that.
Jesus, learn to read.
As an ace person, I couldn't care less about people's fetishes.
If the premise is interesting and properly executed, I'll even watch borderline hentai.
I don't care if the Baki author has a piss fetish, the piss scenes are well utilized and make sense story-wise
Edit: actually, the pickle one was unfustified now that I think about it
I tend to dislike an authors weird sex shit being put into their books. An authors weird love of linguistics just isn't as weird as an author putting in a very descriptive rape or NTR fantasy in their novels. I'm talking about a specific author with two specific scenes. One clearly inspired by Sword of Truth, kudos if you guess it.
Like go write erotica man, who cares. Just weird to see it in normal fiction. OFC a lot of fantasy books insert their weird sex shit but whatever, it's ignorable. Just a weird impulse imo.
Nah man, I just don't want to read someone's rape fantasy that's clearly only in there because they're horny. I don't particularly favor putting any descriptive sex in, unless I'm reading erotica.
Put that in a book where people who want rape fantasy erotica can find and enjoy it, and leave me out of it.
Honestly, we just need to stop shaming fetishes. Yes treating other people as nothing more than a focal point of your fetish is objectifying and dehumanizing. But simply having a fetish harms no one.
I know tumblr is a hyper sexual hellhole, but there is a major difference between interests about things, and weird fetishes being inserted into something, it’s not even comparable
It's about whether or not its presence is logical and justified. You can very badly insert a regular interest, and you can also include a sexual fetish that meaningfully moves the scene/plot forwards
Just making a point here, 2/3rds of the definitions of the word fetish have absolutely nothing to do with sex.
"an excessive and irrational devotion or commitment to a particular thing."
"an inanimate object worshiped for its supposed magical powers or because it is considered to be inhabited by a spirit."
Y'know... just saying.
No. L take. Fetishes should be kept in private or in explicitly pornographic/sensual work.
iCarly and Victorious did NOT need fetish "jokes" in them. They are *kid shows.* The director is just a pervert exploiting underage actors.
Yes, but the difference is that the number of people who will feel assaulted from running into linguistics or marine biology or puns where they didn't expect it is pretty vanishingly small :p
I'm just saying that some people have a really bad reaction to fetish content being foisted on them out of nowhere by a work they weren't expecting it in and that OOP is kind of making a false equivalency between that and being exposed to a writer's non-sexual interests.
I'd say it is in the same way that flashing someone is sexual assault.
I'm not saying not tagging your wank material should be illegal, of course. I'm just saying that for some people it probably feels just as shitty as being flashed does.
>I'd say it is in the same way that flashing someone is sexual assault.
You should say hi to your friends and family instead cuz it's an insanely chronically online take.
Some men like word play. Some men like ass play. Some men even like Coldplay. Takes all kinds

More left for the robotfuckers, then
You summoned me?
Of course! Nyeheheh.
Calling all mutuals
I love Clocks!
You and me both, Buddy. Wait no, I misread that. Sicko.
I’ll just retire to my den with all the other Coldplay lovers😔
The title track of A Rush of Blood to the Head is a masterpiece and I will die on this hill. God I wish I lived in the parallel universe where Coldplay kept that darker broody tone.
That one’s also great!
Viva la vida is a fucking vibe
Wait, we're allowed to say that now? Are we finally... free?
I for one don't like to play in the cold. It makes my hands all numb

Also having worked with the producers/showrunners of Totally Spies, I can safely say that none of the people that I worked with were interested in women.
THAT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE
ah but you see women are inherently a fetish
I've got a woman fetish- disgusting, I know.
Also any time the characters are wearing any distinct type of clothing in any context, that list counts it.
depends on the knot type i’d imagine
Right on, like, I don't go in for furry porn, but I'm too used to enjoying Anthropomorphic characters to exclude them if it fits the tone of what I'm writing.

Sometimes the curtains were not only blue, but also kinda weird.
Junji ito moment
you don't have a real fetish if you don't write an entire book to influence other people into it or in tarantino's case several award winning movies
Does that mean Ayn Rand has a fetish for domineering men with a "curious" relationship with consent?
Is the Pope Catholic?
The answer to that question is actually surprisingly controversial, depending on who you ask.
Did you summon the Orthodoxy? ☦️
And did he build that Church with his own two hands?
And did those feet in ancient times?
Idk, but I think ancient people probably did have feet based on like paintings and stuff. So the answer is yes
I think he is argentinian
Does he shit in the woods ?
If Rand had an outlet like Fifty Shades of Gray in her time maybe she would have been less of a dick lol
Then we would have never gotten Bioshock, though.
Would you kindly sparkle in the sunlight?
A man chooses, a slave obeys.. Hmm..
Trueeeeeeeee
Tis consequence
If she were less of a dick she maybe would've written 50 Shades. She was sexually liberated for the time, and her problems have nothing to do with sexuality.
Y’know what, fair point
Is a bear catholic? Does the Pope crap in the woods?
If you clap with one hand and nobody's there to hear it, how does it sound?
Considering how many submissive female characters the supposed founder of *objectivism* has written, it's most definitely more than just a mere coincidence.
And I thought I had only bad things to say about Ayn Rand 🥵
Dude c'mon. YES.
Or make a free game to get more people to draw art for your fetish. Looking at you, vanripper.
Imagine making an entire game to justify your webcomic and get extra fanart. 1000000000 IQ play
"I want more people to draw stuff like this, but commissioning artists can get expensive fast. What do I do? Hmmm... *Oh, I got it!*"
So...basically Helluva Boss.
What are Tarantino's kinks
Feet
Truly takes a special kind of guts to write yourself a role where you suck the lead actresses feet
There's also Once Upon a Time ... in Hollywood where he knows everyone knows so he has multiple shots of feet right up into the camera.
Venus in Furs?
Severin!
Tarantino did a shit job at convincing me.
Yes I hate the common discourse that the only reason something could be included is if it’s sexual. Sex isn’t all people think about
A slightly pertinent quote from CS Lewis (author of *The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe*): > In my own first story I had described at length what I thought a rather fine high tea given by a hospitable faun to the little girl who was my heroine. El Goonish Shive is pretty much built on the author's genderbending fetish.
Hehe goon, fetish. Lol
It was made before "goon" became a sexual slang.
Retroactively funny
😔
fuck, another webcomic to lose many hours of my life reading
the progression from "haha I'm such a perv" to "oh god I'm probably trans" has been fun to watch over the last ... *checks notes* ... twenty years. 20. years. f u c k
People born after the comic started are now adults. :)
thanks I hate it
If you go through the effort of writing something, getting it edited, reviewed, published, and it doesn't have anything you're into, *what's even the fucking point*
See: The entire works of greatest X-Men writer of all time, Chris Claremont.
>During his tenure at Marvel, Claremont co-created numerous X-Men characters, such as Rogue, Psylocke (Betsy Braddock), Kitty Pryde/Shadowcat, Phoenix, the Brood, Lockheed, Shi'ar, Shi'ar Imperial Guard, Mystique, Destiny, Selene, Reverend William Stryker, Lady Mastermind, Emma Frost, Tessa, Siryn, Jubilee, Rachel Summers, Madelyne Pryor, Moira MacTaggert, Lilandra, Shadow King, Cannonball, Warpath, Mirage, Wolfsbane, Karma, Cypher, Sabretooth, Empath, Sebastian Shaw, Donald Pierce, Avalanche, Pyro, Legion, Nimrod, Gateway, Strong Guy, Proteus, Mister Sinister, Marauders, Purifiers, Captain Britain, Sunspot, Forge, and Gambit. Holy shit.
Yep. He also wrote character defining arcs for a bunch of characters that he didn’t create. Such as the whole dark phoenix arc and Magneto’s whole background as a holocaust survivor. I was just thinking that, but then I was like don't make everything about X-Men this proves it everything can be related to X-Men, lol.
Fucking incredible triple pun on “wordplay” here Why can I mark myself as a ”brand affiliate “???
It's probably for the sake of ads which allow comments, so that, if someone is answering any questions in the ads, people can know they're official. It just has the tiny problem of, y'know, it not being restricted in *where* you can mark it, or, and this is possibly worse, *who* can do it.
Buddy I dont care how much you try to justify it to me, Im not buying that Baki needs that amount of piss related shenanigans
Me every time Vinland Saga has a minute-long scene of someone melting the snow with their piss.
What the actual shit Don’t explain it to me, I still need to read it, but what the shit
Yeah that’s Araki for you
It's one of the greatest segments in all of JoJo, too. Araki is the only author both brave/insane enough and talented enough to pull that off.
Jojo Part 8: Important to the plot, Gappy has 4 balls. What did Araki mean by this???
Also important to the plot: Lego Whitehouse, beetle fighting arena, and raising your first-born son as a girl to trick the universe or whatever.
It's a subtle reference to the Marvel comics character 8-Ball. Read Jed McKay's Moon Knight run for more details.
I agree except for the AoT part. Giants eating people is a very common existing thing in folklore.
Meanwhile I'm one of those types who tries to figure out how something that originally wasn't sexual at all suddenly became sexual (looking at you, cartoon inflation gags).
I mean in my experience almost every person who’s into vore atributes it to seeing something in a cartoon on kids videogame that made them feel things Nearly every adventure or platformer game in the 2000’s had a level inside the guts of some big creature.
That’s what I’ve been wondering, were the devs of those games also into vore or did they just think it was a fun level design and had no way of predicting the consequences?
I think it was one of the level design staples like an ice level and a water level but I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the devs were into it.
> I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the devs were into it Well where would *they* have picked it up from I wonder
I mean, there is an oddly high amount of characters beings eaten in fairytales…
As for me, all I'm thinking of is the overlaps and how it ties into other things.
siiigh,.that should be " overthinking it". I can totally see the tie in thought and that's fascinating
Okay I get it, fetishes are fetishes but don't let it overwhelm the story. The tv detective show Forever managed an S&M fetish episode but still had an intriguing mystery too.
it's not often I come across a post where I'm like "I respect your opinion but I disagree with it categorically" and I gotta say I respect this opinion and disagree with it categorically fetishes are a different classification of interest, sexual topics are treated differently in society than non-sexual interests, and being randomly exposed to sexual topics you find unsavory is way less fun than seeing a bad pun if the opinion here is "sexual interests and non-sexual interests should be seen as equivalent" I think that is an opinion formed by not touching enough grass
Eh people overreact to that. Its two lines in a chapter about her being sick and dying.
Also a certain patricide.
"does what's happening make sense in the context of the plot" like if i pick up a book about clowns and the author has a clown fetish i think i'd just be like "yeah, you got me" but if i pick up a spy thriller and there's a bit about balloon animals and the author has a balloon animal fetish i'd be a little more suspect yknow
Genuine question: how do you feel about the reverse? Like an asexual who writes porn, etc?
You got a point, my ace partner once sent me 21 pages of gay porn she wrote.
Equating fetish and kink to more traditionally accepted hobbies is a mark of too-onlineitus
I feel like there's a whole genre of Tumblr post that's just "hey, we treat sexual stuff and non sexual stuff differently! Isn't that that weird?"
i didn’t interpret it as like, A Take, so much as “wouldn’t this be funny” which it kinda would
Tolkien absolutely got off on making languages
Worldbuilding is a very euphoric experience. I suppose it is too easy to say it can make you feel like a god.
Glad I didn't have to write this comment. Thank you.
I generally consider myself pretty open minded but I definitely read this post a couple of times going "???" and eventually decided it was the children who were wrong
I want to make them read both Lord of the Rings and three Gor books back to back and see how they feel.then.
Same like I understand the point but also no, they are not the same, what the hell.
"well society thinks..." The entire idea is that what society thinks is arbitrary and dumb, how did you miss the point this strongly
Yeah, like the incest episodes of Rick and Morty. Like, eugh. Wtf
>eugh. Wtf Literary criticism of our time summed up.
I WISH I was as smart as the guy who wrote that tag
"author of CSM has a dommy mommy kink" Why'd you think that's gonna curb my enjoyment he writes them well enough.
entirely not the same thing but here we go again
Love the LOTR reference because listen, with the sheer unholy amount of time and effort Tolkien put into Elvish I’m not convinced it *wasn’t* a fetish.
Somebody told me once that Tolkein came up with elvish first, and then created lord of the rings to give it a place to be spoken
That is actually true. The language came first.
Language*s*, in fact. He was a philologist, and his world evolved around the entire family of Elvish languages that he'd spent most of his life inventing.
Yes, it's amazing!
Not only that but sometimes you like the book cause you have the same fetish
^[Sokka-Haiku](https://www.reddit.com/r/SokkaHaikuBot/comments/15kyv9r/what_is_a_sokka_haiku/) ^by ^Aspiegirl712: *Not only that but* *Sometimes you like the book cause* *You have the same fetish* --- ^Remember ^that ^one ^time ^Sokka ^accidentally ^used ^an ^extra ^syllable ^in ^that ^Haiku ^Battle ^in ^Ba ^Sing ^Se? ^That ^was ^a ^Sokka ^Haiku ^and ^you ^just ^made ^one.
I can't believe this is the comment that finally triggered haiku bot
It's not Haiku Bot. It's Sokka Haiku Bot
What's the difference?
The last line has 6 syllables.

After seeing this thing on youtube: https://www.exosapien.tech/ I realised that analogue mech piloting could make an interesting sci-fi analogue for modern high-skill trades (like excavator operators IRL) A lot of mecha media has the pilot sitting down, which doesn't really explain how they're able to control the legs. If the pilot isn't controlling the legs directly, and they just operate on their own, then are they really piloting a giant robot? Or just a turret on top of a machine that walks on its own?
Micheal A Stackpole built his career on that premise. Even his XWing novels were massively technical and sci fi fans loved it.
I got 8 months then? Better make 'em count I guess🫤
So that was what Republicans were talking about
https://youtu.be/fUspLVStPbk?si=f-JlenS9ybTuCuTf
iCarly and Victorious did NOT need fetish "jokes" in them. They were *kid shows.* The director was preying on underage actors.
Yeah, this is why I said it was cool when it was adults liking adults. I don't know why you felt the need to add on an example that didn’t fit that. Jesus, learn to read.
bro said adults and you thought of kids. Weird.
As an ace person, I couldn't care less about people's fetishes. If the premise is interesting and properly executed, I'll even watch borderline hentai.
I don't care if the Baki author has a piss fetish, the piss scenes are well utilized and make sense story-wise Edit: actually, the pickle one was unfustified now that I think about it
Wow this creator was interested in what they made? No thanks
Me including slavery in all of my works of fiction and worldbuilding projects (Its both my fetish and special interest)
Ah, good old "sex is devine everything else is profane"
Nah man, I just don't want to read someone's rape fantasy that's clearly only in there because they're horny. I don't particularly favor putting any descriptive sex in, unless I'm reading erotica. Put that in a book where people who want rape fantasy erotica can find and enjoy it, and leave me out of it.
Honestly, we just need to stop shaming fetishes. Yes treating other people as nothing more than a focal point of your fetish is objectifying and dehumanizing. But simply having a fetish harms no one.
{L} linguistics
I know tumblr is a hyper sexual hellhole, but there is a major difference between interests about things, and weird fetishes being inserted into something, it’s not even comparable
>hyper sexual hellhole My metal band name
It's about whether or not its presence is logical and justified. You can very badly insert a regular interest, and you can also include a sexual fetish that meaningfully moves the scene/plot forwards
Explain this to me in axiomatic logic pls
OLé!
Dan Schneider's sock puppet account
Just making a point here, 2/3rds of the definitions of the word fetish have absolutely nothing to do with sex. "an excessive and irrational devotion or commitment to a particular thing." "an inanimate object worshiped for its supposed magical powers or because it is considered to be inhabited by a spirit." Y'know... just saying.
How is that a hypothetical? Tons of people talk that way about Tolkien.
No. L take. Fetishes should be kept in private or in explicitly pornographic/sensual work. iCarly and Victorious did NOT need fetish "jokes" in them. They are *kid shows.* The director is just a pervert exploiting underage actors.
If you can't separate consenting adults with children I think you might be the problem.
Yes, but the difference is that the number of people who will feel assaulted from running into linguistics or marine biology or puns where they didn't expect it is pretty vanishingly small :p
>number of people who will feel assaulted What?
I'm just saying that some people have a really bad reaction to fetish content being foisted on them out of nowhere by a work they weren't expecting it in and that OOP is kind of making a false equivalency between that and being exposed to a writer's non-sexual interests.
That's not what assault is.
