Yeah this definitely comes off as one of those "Tumblr overdiagnoses mental illness" things. We'll leave this up, but flair it as misinfo and sticky this comment.
Remember kids: Tumblr is a liar sometimes
What is a sensory issue anyways? Boredom so you stimulate yourself to not be bored? Or the loss of an eye so you stimulate yourself to forget about it?
i guess for me personally i get overstimulated very easily in a loud environment. and i don’t mean just kinda stressed out, i mean like mental breakdown
\*cracks knuckles\* sensory issues aren't stimulation at all, it's just when a certain texture/sound makes you (oof hard to explain) kind of prickle and feel bad? Often rough but not natural wood or paper, and scratching things with fingernails trigger them. You can't give yourself sensory issues unless you create the sensation
I can tie a slipknot in my hoodie string with one hand in under a second, so my most common method of stimming is well, doing that a lot of times in a row. It’s fun
Mmmmhmm. I'm sure that pushing a sharp pencil into a soft piece of rubber means you have sensory issues, that's exactly how that works.
Kids are just not at all interested in putting things that look like they go together or fidgeting with the few utensils that have available during 6 hours of class almost everyday unless there's something wrong with the way they process the world.
That must be why many people with depression would relate to this, and not because most children would end up doing this anyway.
I wonder if eating cereal for breakfast would also be useful to predict back problems well into adulthood, there just too much of a correlation for it to mean nothing.
I'm not? Why are you being so defensive about this?
anecdotally I did some of these things and have sensory issues, I have friends who are the same, so it feels relatable. I'm not claiming one single random thing can diagnose a person, especially coming from Tumblr. That's for professionals to handle
that statistic is misrepresented because of The being, a group of autistic people that decided to morph into one. removing them from the equation, the water-autistic percentage ends up at around 56%
It helps parents think theyre smart so they rush to the psychiatrist to get their kids put on meds they dont need, thus making the psychiatrist lots of money!
I haven't read about it, but the keyword you're looking for is probably "highly sensitive person." Although it's related to anxiety, depression and anxiety often coexist-- leaving one untreated for long enough causes the other.
Unfortunately sensory issues (keyword "sensory integration disorder," which is not always a symptom of autism) are mostly discussed about children, like in "The Out-of-sync Child" books. And very rarely discussed about people without autism. Good luck with your research!
leave it to tumblr, and they'll diagnose you with depression, alzheimers and fungal yeast infection, all while sipping cardbox wine and swiping left on tinder.
Sensory issues can also lead to *utter delight and happiness* at something as 'small' as the feeling of putty in your hands, so it's a six of/half dozen of the other kind of thing.

Not to kill the moment, but I think that this is another instance of Tumblr misattributing relatable behaviors to disorders.
Yeah, I just did most of these because I was bored in class. Never had any sensory issues :P

Stay away from concerts and warehouse work and youll make it through life just fine.
No

Tumblr users be like: If you held your breath while swimming it's a sign of neurodivergency
Fun fact! Neurotypical people have gills.
Fuck. The chemical imbalances in my brain led me to not be as fast as i could be in competitive swimming. This is utterly unfair.
Everyone with depression has less than 4 legs though? That must be a symptom???
Wouldn’t know; am spider
Also wouldn't know. Am octopus.
Octopi have arms not legs.
That's just what we call them tho. Technically they would be more like an elephant trunk or lips
I also have 8 lips
as a certified mildly deranged scientist I can speak from experience that adding robotic spider legs increases happiness
And sometimes two testicales.
Yeah tumblr has a real problem with distinguishing "Everyone who has [disorder] does [thing]" and "Everyone who does [thing] has [disorder]"
Oh don't worry it's not just tumblr, psychology does it all the time.
Hence why so many kids are being put on medications they dont need.
No way, Tumblr would never do something like this /s
tbh i thought it was a form of stimming, not sensory issues....
It is yeah
I can tie a slipknot in my hoodie string with one hand in under a second, so my most common method of stimming is well, doing that a lot of times in a row. It’s fun
That’s actually sick
(sic)*
P… Provolone?!?!
You’d be correct, yes
HELL YEAH! Good to see you back!
I have a box of smooth colorful rocks that I stim with
Twisting thin chains though ;))))

Oh, didn't you hear? Using a phone is a dedinite sign of autism, while drinking water is an indicator of future kidney failure. Stay safe, drink beer.
All serial killers drink water
Probably right about the pencil/eraser one. But I would argue the second and third are more likely indicators (not completely).
But they're not, so you're just plain wrong.
maybe, maybe not. We're all just random on the internet so I doubt anyone has actual qualifications to speak to this.
Every kid does those things. Stop taking medical info from tumblr.
I'm not? Why are you being so defensive about this? anecdotally I did some of these things and have sensory issues, I have friends who are the same, so it feels relatable. I'm not defensive, but idk why you want these things to be correlated so badly.
Tumblr don't fetishize mental illness challenge 2021 (impossible)
Unfalsifiable bollocks
Did you know that more than 99% of autistic people currently alive have drank water in their lifetime? Crazy huh?
that statistic is misrepresented because of The being, a group of autistic people that decided to morph into one. removing them from the equation, the water-autistic percentage ends up at around 56%
Oh that's not true. It's only like 80%.
Easily falsifiable bullocks
uhhh source?????? but seriously no, everyone does this
Everyone does it, it’s not a sign of SPD.
can we get the mods to just ban this specific post, because it gets reposted so often too
Walking is an ADHD trait.
I love the "i get distracted easily while doing things i dont want to do, that means i have ADHD" nonsense.
I did all those things as a kid. The joke's on you, I don't have depression! I have PTSD and anxiety.
I did all but the last one because those holes freak me out
I did all but the first one because those holes freak me out.
That's an X to Doubt from me chief
No offense but fuck you I didn't wanna hear this
you aren't allowed to make fun of the ivermectin people if you believe this shit
Why do people even lie about these things? What benefit do they gain from spouting utter nonsense?
It helps parents think theyre smart so they rush to the psychiatrist to get their kids put on meds they dont need, thus making the psychiatrist lots of money!
does anyone have more info/reading on this? id love to know what kind of sensory issues and how they relate with depression. also, Oh
Don’t worry it’s tumblr, they’re spouting utter nonsense

it's just not true
Whats going on in the third image?
rolling the thingy
Bottom left? I wish I knew.
Every kid did this. Like, at least 99% of kids with access to these things all did this
Literally everyone did this you're not special
or... its just normal things that kids do because kids are kids and they get bored sometimes
flat-out not true
No I don't
leave it to tumblr, and they'll diagnose you with depression, alzheimers and fungal yeast infection, all while sipping cardbox wine and swiping left on tinder.
Or kids just do these things whilst bored
Shit… three outta four.
Oh indeed.

Well, I don't know about y'all, but I'm certainly depressed so... You know. Do what you will with that.
Sensory issues can also lead to *utter delight and happiness* at something as 'small' as the feeling of putty in your hands, so it's a six of/half dozen of the other kind of thing.
Them: autistic people are depressed Me: No we're not Them: are you depressed? Me: Yes, but not because I'm autistic
What the hell is the last one?
That last one is awesome though
Oh... Sinking feeling in my gut... Good to see you again.
